We enjoyed our stay overall at the Baglioni Hotel Regina in Rome. The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. We did have a few issues during our stay, including a shower that was not draining properly and would flood the bathroom within a few minutes, as well as a housekeeping issue where flowers I had purchased for my wife were accidentally removed from our room. What impressed us was how the hotel responded. They fixed the shower, brought additional flowers to our room, and gave us another bottle of wine to make up for what happened. We really appreciated that they listened to our concerns and made an effort to make things right. There were a few things that could have been better, but the way the staff handled the problems definitely improved our experience. We left Rome with a positive impression of the hotel and appreciated the effort they made during the remainder of our stay.

The good: the staff were all super nice and accommodating. Great central location. The bad: I mean just look at these photos. I’m literally sick right now with a sore throat because of their disgusting air conditioning which hasn’t been cleaned, likely ever. The hotel is very dated. Okay, no problem. But you better have the place clean to make up for it. But, they did not. Notably, we were told we were “upgraded” to a better room which was obviously a lie. And we were not asked how our stay was - likely because they already knew our room was not good. Hairs all over the place. Thank god the bed was clean or we’d have left. We don’t want to hurt their business but they have PLENTY of room for improvement if they want to compete with the others who are in the same price range. Please do better. We will not be back until things are fixed.
Impressive building. Underwhelming hotel. We stayed two nights at the Baglioni Regina in Rome and left with the strong sense that the property is trading on its address and its architecture rather than on what it actually delivers. It started at the front door. No doorman on arrival. We hauled our own suitcases up onto the doorstep and through into the lobby, which is not what you expect at this price point or from a hotel that presents itself the way this one does. Check in set the tone. The staff were quite uninterested and distant, and across the whole stay gave the impression that nothing much concerned them. Not rude, just uninterested. There is a difference between polished European reserve and indifference, and this was the latter. The hotel has two small lifts. One was out of service for the duration of our stay. Our room, booked as a “superior”, was tucked deep into the back of the building. Up the one small working lift, down a flight of stairs, then through three dim and sad corridors of stained and tired carpet. The room itself was small and uninspiring, looking out onto a sad internal courtyard that was also noisy. The marble throughout the room and bathroom is genuinely impressive. That is where the compliments end. More seriously, the room was not clean. On arrival we found hair from previous guests, stained towels, and a used bandaid that had simply been left behind. At any hotel that is unacceptable. At a property charging what this one charges, and presenting itself as a five star address, it suggests housekeeping standards that have slipped well past the point of oversight. Housekeeping did not improve. When the bath and shower gel pump ran empty, I unscrewed the lid and left both parts in the bathroom sink, a fairly clear signal that it needed refilling. Rather than replace it, housekeeping reassembled the pump and set the completely empty container back on the edge of the bathtub. We ended up using our own products for the rest of the stay. It is a small thing, but it captures the whole experience. The motions of service without any of the attention. The bathroom fittings are old and tired, and the extractor fan did not work. Comfort was a further problem. The air conditioning was underpowered and never managed to cool the room properly, which made for hot and uncomfortable nights across the stay. The basement gym is fine. The spa has a two person jacuzzi, but access costs 35 euro per person for 30 minutes and pre booking is needed. That effectively kills any notion of a spontaneous soak after a long day walking Rome, which is precisely when you want one. Breakfast was adequate and nothing more. Standard five star fare, competently done, with no memorable element. Staff were distracted and disengaged. The main dining and buffet area had lighting that flickered persistently, which is not conducive to lingering over coffee. None of these things are catastrophic in isolation. Collectively they add up to a stay that felt neglected. A grand old building with the bones of something excellent, run by a team that appears to have stopped caring about the details that separate a genuine luxury hotel from an expensive one. Rome has no shortage of options at this level, several of which understand that clean rooms, service, functioning lifts, working air conditioning and an accessible spa are not optional extras. We will be looking elsewhere next time.
The service throughout our stay was outstanding, warm, attentive and genuinely personal. Every member of staff made us feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were beautiful, the atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, and the overall experience made our trip to Rome even more memorable. A special mention also to the front desk team and bellboys, whose professionalism and warmth really stood out throughout our stay. From the moment we arrived, they were attentive, welcoming and incredibly helpful, always greeting us with a smile and making every interaction feel personal. Their service added a real touch of luxury to the whole experience. We also loved the live music throughout the hotel, which created such an elegant and relaxing atmosphere. Having a lady playing the harp during breakfast each morning was a beautiful touch and made the start of each day feel truly special. The live music in the bar during the evenings added to the wonderful ambience and made it a perfect place to unwind after exploring Rome. We would highly recommend the hotel and look forward to returning soon.
I recommend this hotel to everyone planning a trip to Rome. First off, it's beautiful, quiet, and clean. The guest rooms are wonderfully appointment and comfortable. Second, the food and beverage service is great. We ate breakfast every day and enjoyed cocktails every afternoon. The food was delicious and, when possible, locally sourced. Finally, the staff was professional and warm, making us feel at home. The concierge team arranged tours, transfers, and made dinner reservations for us so we could enjoy every moment in the Eternal City! You would regret choosing this hotel.
