Jair was an incredible guide on our Monkey Mountain trip! Everything was super straightforward and easy, and we learned so much along the way—outside of things about the environment, local culture, and food as well. Would highly recommend!

Itinerary
Your adventure begins at the Sayulita bus station, where you’ll take a local bus for a scenic 25 minute ride to the charming village of Higuera Blanca, the gateway to Monkey Mountain (Cerro del Mono). After a brief orientation, we’ll begin an 8 km (5 mile) round-trip hike to the summit. Along the way, I’ll point out the local flora and fauna while sharing valuable insights into the history and traditions of this region. Near the top, a short rock scramble will lead us to the summit, the perfect place to relax and take in breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, framed by panoramic vistas of the Riviera Nayarit. We’ll descend along the same trail until we return to Higuera Blanca, where you’ll enjoy a refreshing coconut at one of the village’s most traditional spots. Finally, we’ll take a private car or taxi back to Sayulita, wrapping up a truly unforgettable experience.

Fun, fairly strenuous hike. Jair as a great guide, sharing the history of the area and interesting tidbits about the flora, fauna, and wildlife. His love for nature shined through! Great views along the way, culminating at a gorgeous peak. Then back down! Take lots of water (more than you think you will need), and don't skip the fresh coconut on the way back to Sayarita (a gorgeous and charming town to grab a well-earned lunch!).
Such a wonderful experience from start to finish! Jair was an incredible guide—kind, knowledgeable, and clearly very experienced. He was especially great with my kids, keeping them engaged and encouraging them even when they got tired. Truly a memorable adventure, and one I’d highly recommend to families visiting the area.
It’s a great moderately difficult hike with gorgeous views. The last part is quite steep and requires a bit of scrambling over rocks. Definitely worth the effort to get to the view from the top. Jair was quite knowledgeable about the history of the area and conservation efforts.
Jair was an excellent guide. We learned a lot about the Mexican culture and history. What a beautiful hike. We would highly recommend.
The hike was awesome! Jair is so kind and knowledgeable about the area, I learned a lot about the flora and fauna and the history of the mountain. 10/10 experience overall Amino!!
An amazing hike with an excellent guide. As an elderly gent I would rate the hike as moderately difficult given the elevation change. More difficult if you hike in the afternoon heat. Good hiking shoes a must. Spectacular views.
Fully attentive and informative guide Jair! Epic scenery and well worth the journey. Transportation from Sayulita gave an added benefit of seeing another quaint town.
Monkey Mountain was a beautiful hike with incredible views at the top—but wow, it was way more strenuous than we expected! We’d read reviews saying it was moderate, but it definitely pushed us more than anticipated. We *thought* we were in decent shape… turns out, not quite! Still, it was a great workout and totally worth it—just be prepared for a real climb and bring plenty of water.
Jair was an accommodating and knowledgeable tour guide. The hike through jungle and mountain has a lot of interesting and unique flora. Seeing the sensitive plant in it’s natural habitat is one of the highlights for me.
Jair is a lovely human and it was a pleasure joining this tour! Definitely felt like a great deal $$ wise. Hike was great and I was glad to have done it in the morning as it was getting hot near the end. Definitely recommend for anyone!
The hike was great. It's important to wear sunscreen and a hat. Our guide was very kind to us and was close to us throughout the tour, helping us and showing us nature. I highly recommend this experience!
The tour is a beautiful hike up Monkey Mountain to a peak with amazing views. Jaír was the guide and he was so knowledgeable and explained interesting facts all along the way. I am trying to learn Spanish and Jaír graciously let me practice speaking Spanish which I’m sure required a lot of patience on his part. I also learned a lot of interesting things about native plants and animals. The actual hike is just beautiful. I highly recommend this experience.
This was a great hike. All the travel arrangements were spot on. Jair was knowledgeable, and a kind, considerate guide. The three of us were over 65 and all in good shape but it still kicked our butt!! The last short section is quite a scramble. Views were beautiful. Hydrate well and use plenty of sunscreen and all will be well! A most enjoyable 4 hours.
Jair was a great guide. He set an easy pace, was knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, and local history. It was very hot and humid so take lots of water. The view from the top was wonderful.
Beautiful views. Great guide who told us all about the different fauna as we walked. Very interesting. The guide also had walking sticks for us to use since we are seniors. High recommend. Good value for the money
What a great adventure , Our guide Jair is simply the best !.He entertained us all through the walk , told us about the flora & the fauna, and then , you reach the summit. The view is breathtaking taking , a 360 degree view of mountains, oceans, villages and islands , it’s all there for you to see. On our way down we traded on our respectives customs , we even talked about our family recipes . A great way to visit and learn about the place and the people and an occasion to see more than what meets the eye ! Definitely a must on your list if you are visiting the area
One of the best hikes we’ve ever done! Jair is an incredible guide—polite, knowledgeable, and well-versed in the town’s history, Monkey Mountain, and the local wildlife and vegetation. We asked a lot of questions, and he either knew the answer or quickly found it, as there was cell service the entire way. The first half of the hike is easy, but the second half gets more challenging with steep inclines, and near the top, you’ll be stepping on and climbing boulders. But once you reach the summit, the views and photo opportunities make it all worth it. While not the easiest hike, we saw people of all ages and fitness levels making the trek. From the moment we met Jair at the Sayulita bus station, we felt comfortable—he even knew many of the people we encountered along the way. He also went above and beyond helping us organize transportation back to Puerto Vallarta. Overall, an outstanding adventure!
The view was amazing!! Jair was a wonderful guide and had so much fun!! I am grateful for the experience!!
I highly recommend it. Jair was very friendly and attentive throughout. I learned a lot about the animals and flora of the area and I liked knowing the village of Higuera Blanca.
Great hike! The view is beautiful. Our guide was perfect. We recommend it 100%. Thank you for this beautiful discovery!
