Tijuca National Park And All Its Wonders

Thomas was an excellent guide to hike with through Tijuca National Park. He was kind, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the park. As a solo female traveler I felt safe with him and was grateful to have such an excellent guide that taught me so much. 100% book with Thomas!

Thomas is an excellent guide. He is knowledgeable and passionate. He was careful to make sure we arrived and departed safely. He showed us where to go with our Uber driver. He contacted us ahead of time to make sure we knew where we were going. He is great about adapting the hike to the fitness and interests of the participants. I highly recommend. The tour with Thomas was one of the highlights of our trip to Rio de Janeiro.

This tour with was absolutely incredible. The trail through the park was both interesting and beautiful. Our guide, Thomas was so knowledgeable, not only about the park and the wildlife within it, but also about Brazil as a whole. He answered all of our questions, helped us through the more ‘adventurous’ aspects of the trail (that we opted to take), and ensured our safety, whilst sharing knowledge, insights and jokes the entire time. If we were in Rio for longer we would have booked more tours with him, but we are super glad we booked this one.

Fabulous tour! It was educational, fun and energizing! Thomas made contact with me just after my booking and stayed in touch before , during and after my tour. He was helpful with giving directions with transport. As this was my first time in Rio his help in this way was greatly appreciated!! The love of this area is demonstrated in his knowledge sharing and excitenent. He found and pointed out many insects, plants, animals and shared historical background of the area. Things I would not have otherwise learned I did today by having Thomas as my guide. He answered all but one of my 50 questions😂 The bonus was the exercise in the hike and he shared the photos he took via a link. What a wonderful day! I’d definitely book with Thomas again for a different tour but I’m heading off already tomorrow to Peru. You’ll be pleased if you hire Thomas for a tour and will gain the presence of a jewel of a person and guide for a half day.

Really beautiful hike with caves and waterfalls. Great opportunities were awesome photos. Decently difficult hike that can be customized based on your activity level. The guide was informative and offered walking sticks, which were helpful. Definitely bring bug spray. The beginning of the park has a lot of mosquitoes, but the vast majority was fine.

Take a nature walk in Rio! Tomas was a great guide and very informative in regards to the national park. He informed us on the plants, animals and location. We got to see a monkey and several birds. We made a pit stop at the waterfall and cave. Also, got to see locals rock climbing and being Tomas expertise stopped to give them pointers. It was fun to watch. Finally, he was also a great photographer. Let him snap your photos his camera is great quality. It was about a 10k loop. Highly recommend it!

In addition, he is super knowledgeable about the rainforest and was able to adapt the difficulty and speed of the hike to the fitness level of our group. This was so fab! I've done the food, the samba, the beaches, and enough caipirinhas to make me worry about my blood glucose level... what I needed was some nature. And Thomas provided. His passion and enthusiasm are infectious. His explanations of the local flaura and fauna but also the area's history are illuminating. Not far from Rio is a quiet and peaceful National Park, Tijuca. Home to several waterfalls, trees, plants and animals, this spot was raw and calming. I didn’t see a monkey or a sloth, next time. Did a little hiking, saw the 300 year old tree which I walked around 3 times and made a wish, and saw a waterfall! Magical!

I booked this tour with my husband and we were lucky enough to receive a private tour with Thomas as we were the only people to book that day. He realised we were keen hikers and adapted the route to suit us, so we were able to see a lot of the park, its waterfalls, and visit more than one cave. We also had time to watch some Macao prego monkeys having a snack! The tour was set at a great pace and Thomas shared his extensive knowledge of the park with us with great enthusiasm. I highly recommend visiting the park with Thomas. As well as a fantastic day, he also provided us with photos and videos afterwards and shared recommendations for our next stop in Brazil with us. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rio.

Absolutely brilliant tour. Thomas asked our level of experience and fitness beforehand and adapted the tour to our needs. We never felt rushed yet managed to complete the whole itinerary. He explained all about the history of the forest and its relation to the creation of Rio and gave us some fab info on all the plants, trees, flowers and bugs. The highlights were the waterfall, amazing cave and the monkeys and coatis that crossed our path. We were kept up to date regarding pick up and what to bring etc. and returned to our hotel with ease. I would check this guy out! He’s an expert in the outdoors but can come right down to the level of children or oldies with dodgy knees and he’s genuinely interested in his clients. 1 million stars ⭐️

This hike was most definitely the highlight of my stay in Rio! I attended as a solo traveller and it was such a welcoming atmosphere. Small group with an individualized approach from our guide Thomas. Thomas was super kind, welcoming, knowledgable, and funny. We got to spend sometime in one of the waterfalls for a super refreshing dip, and also got to see some hardcore rock climbers. And as a cherry on top of an already wonderful experience, we saw a monkey!! CUTE!!!! And Thomas personalizes the hike based on the needs and abilities of each group! I, for sure, recommend this hike!!

We did two excursions with Thomas : a hike in the Tijuca forest and climbing Sugarloaf Mountain. Both of these experiences were incredible thanks in part to Thomas. He was able to listen to our needs, and demonstrated great professionalism. Also thanks to him, we learned lots of things: both about the history of Brazil and the nature that surrounded us. I found Thomas via Google because we wanted to make a tour in the Tijuca Forest with some conditions. Without further ado we wrote via WhatsApp and everything went smoothly. The tour was in the end the absolute blast!!! Thomas is a mega likeable guy who speaks perfect English and explains things with full entusiasm. It is just wonderful to see how he is happy about the smallest plants and explains everything with a huge energy. Also the photos Thomas took of us were the absolute blast! The Tijuca Forest day was one of our best days in our whole Brazil tour. I rarely write reviews, but Thomas absolutely deserves it. It's a local tour, by a local! Thomas was enthusiastic about sharing his love of the forest with us. This included sharing the rock climbing area where we watched his friends work on some climbing projects. Then explored two epic caves, including climbing out of one. We avoided all the crowds of people and saw a beautiful side of the woods. He organized the pick up at our hotel and made sure we were safe on our tour. We also had consistent contact from Thomas as he WhatsApp messaged us a week in advance and checked in multiple times prior to the tour. I would recommend for all shapes and sizes of adventurers!

This was a great experience! Learned a lot about the Tijuca National Park and its flora, fauna, and history all of which was fascinating. Our guide - Thomas - was super friendly, knowledgeable and honest. We felt like we were in great hands throughout our tour. My girlfriend was feeling a bit ill and he was very communicative and accommodating to her needs throughout. He will definitely work with you and your group to accommodate your needs. Also if you're a rock climber, Thomas is knowledgable and passionate about the climbing scene and routes in the area. Lovely tour! Tomas was excellent and explained a lot of interesting things to us, and safely helped us explore the park. We saw some breathtaking views. One of the best tours we've done in Rio (if not the best!!!).

I went on the Tijuca National Park hike with Thomas a few weeks ago and it has been one of the best hikes I did. Thomas is very knowledgeableable and passionate about the hike. He is a great guide to keep checking on you continuously. The pace was good and had enough breaks and sights to enjoy it. I highly recommend this hike. My friends and I did the tour in Tijuca national park with Thomas. He was really friendly and gave great information! He also offered to take us on the Pedra do Gavea trail some days later, and then to the vista chinesa trail later in the week. Really made our Rio-experience!! I was climbing a amazing multipitch in the Gávea rock of Tijuca Park with Thomas, he's too friendly, funny and professional, this experience was easier thanks to him. Everything was wonderful the park its trail, the weather, the view and the rock. I would definitely do it again!

We’ve had two fantastic trips with Thomas Arias, ECOTURIO. The last one was to Pico da Tijuca in the national park in Rio. Thomas is a knowledgeable guide and a fine personality. A lot of humour and information about the nature, landscape and history on the way. Our son has planned to do some mountain climbing in Rio in the future. His mom says that the only way she will be comfortable with him climbing steep mountains is if Thomas is the man in charge. She is sure that he will set safety first. You will never regret a tour with Thomas.

Thomas is a very nice person and hiking Floresta da Tijuca with him was pretty awesome. He is truly passionate about nature and about the park and knows it very well. The route he designed is pretty friendly and full of little surprises. I had a lot of fun and will recommend this tour to any nature lover!!! It’s beautiful!!!
