Luiza was our guide for the day and she was fantastic. She explained some of the history of Brazil and was very knowledgeable about the forest. We saw various wildlife including monkeys, koati, toucans and even had the rare experience of seeing a coral snake! The trail was a difficult hike but very doable for someone that is in good shape and enjoys hiking. Would highly recommend this trip for anyone who enjoys longer hikes and would definitely recommend Luiza as your tour guide!

Itinerary
In the Tijuca Forest National Park, we'll visit some of the most famous attractions like Taunay Waterfall, Vista Chinesa and also do our circuit hike (aprox. 9km=5.6mi) passing by waterfalls, summits and reaching peaks with magnificent views, like the Taquara Castle (814m=2,670ft).
On the way to Tijuca Forest National Park we'll drive by Canoas Summit and it´s possible to see from a distance Pedra da Gávea and Pedra Bonita, that compose a pretty landscape.
In the Tijuca Forest main sector we'll spend most of the day. Hiking in a loop circuit deep in the rainforest, well experience all its lush, passing by rivers, waterfalls, peaks and caves and in the end, refreshing in a waterfall shower.
Taunay Waterfall is the highest and most famous waterfall at Tijuca Forest Park. Before starting the hike we'll stop by to see its beauty, feel its freschness and take some pictures. (swimming in this waterfall is not allowed but after the hike we visit another fall where is possible to shower).
We'll drive by this charming, small and cute little chapel, built in 1850, when the Tijuca Forest was a coffee farm.
This is considered one of the most beautiful views in Rio and one of the few places in the city where you can put Christ Redeemer and Sugar Loaf in the same frame. It's not located in the same sector of the park where we'll do the hike but we'll stop there on the way to check the view and take some pictures.

Went through and explored the parks beauty and nature with a great guide
A REALLY great day with a great guide Luiza - thanks so much for all the stories, the challenges, the adventure trail ..and the fun 😀 PS: always remember to ask about names by pickup … we almost missed the tour to another couple 😉 🚶♀️🚶♀️🥾
The hike is strenuous but there are enough pauses to take your breath. We reach spectacular views. Luisa's clear and detailed explanations on the history of this reconstructed forest, the ruins from the former plantations, the different trees and other flora , etc.. make it much more than a cardio training.
We had a great time with our extremely knowledgable and friendly guide Vinicius. He could answer all our questions - and there where many! - really, it was kind of a National Geographic tour, where we learned a lot and had a good time. The full day walk was challenging but worth all the fabulous sights. Thank you so much Vinicius !!! Beate & Mark
It was well planned organised. The Tourguide, Riccardo, was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I do recommend it.
Fantastic full day trek with Riccardo! Riccardo was really knowledgeable throughout the day and made it a really enjoyable experience. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Rio and wants to get away from the beach and city for a day.
We had an amazing day with Richard as our tour guide. Fabulous English, knowledgeable and kind. Great day had by all and spectacular views.
Vinicius was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed spending time with him. Hike was perfect
We had a great day hiking in the rainforest around Rio with Gustavo. As well as a guide we got a history teacher, geography teacher and naturalist all in one. He also takes great photos! It is a full day with a lot of uphill so you need to be reasonably fit but the pace was perfect with plenty of stops. Really good communication from Anna when booking and the day before the trip.
Riccardo was the perfect tour guide. We were a group of three people and he shared many interesting insights about the forest and its history, was always very friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Compared to the half-day tour, this excursion also includes a hike to a peak with two incredible viewpoints (about 300 meters of altitude difference, starting at an altitude of about 500 meters). I would completely recommend this tour if you're interested in leaving the touristic areas of the forest, where all the half-day tours go to, and would like to dive deeper into the forest.
If you're in good shape and up for a challenge, I would highly recommend this hike. Our guide, Gustavo, was kind and thoughtful, giving us lots of interesting information throughout the hike but also allowing us to walk in silence sometimes and just experience the forest. It started to rain lightly at one point, and he was prepared with ponchos for us which was really nice! He also helped us navigate around a tree that had fallen over the trail, which was a bit of excitement. Note: the hiking pole Gustavo offered at the start was KEY for me as the trail became slippery. Even if you're an experienced hiker, definitely consider it because this hike is already challenging and a little bit of rain can make it even harder. Pack yourself a nice lunch and enjoy the views!
Gustavo turned out to be the best guide one could imagine. We have already used similar services many times, but I can confidently say that Gustavo is truly unmatched. He has extensive knowledge not only about Tijuca National Park but also about the entire city of Rio de Janeiro. At the same time, he is incredibly helpful, kind, and approachable. During our hike, he revealed many secrets of the forest that we would never have noticed on our own. We also learned a lot about the history of Rio and Brazil itself. It was an unforgettable adventure that we will remember for a long time. I highly recommend him!
This was a fantastic hike that was recommended to me by 2 friends who had previously been on it. Vinicius, my guide, was the perfect hiking partner. He was knowledgeable and interesting and it felt like hiking with a friend, especially as it was just the 2 of us. We only saw 2 other people on the whole hike as we went to much quieter areas that would be difficult for people who are not used to hiking. And we saw a group of capuchin monkeys, which topped off a great day. I highly recommend it. Thanks Vinicius!
It was absolutely beautiful to see the forest and all the wild animals. I learned about its history, and even some biology! The views were stunning, especially in the fog. I highly recommend it. It's a very unique experience and a wonderful way to escape society for a day.
We recently had a fabulous day out on a full day guided walking tour of the Tijuca National Park in Rio with Richardo from Jungle Me. We were very well looked after and Richardo worked hard to ensure we got the best from the day out. He drove us to various parts of the rainforest before our numerous hikes and gave us a really interesting background of the history of Rio and how the National Park has developed to this current day. He explained about the flora and fauna as we went around the park and helped us take some great photos of us as a family. It was a long day for him as he then drove us back to our hotel and not at one point lost any enthusiasm. He also had accompanying him a fellow guide who was training, Vinnie who was also very pleasant and shared some interesting facts along our trip. Highly recommend!! Thanks Richie and Vinnie!! :))
Excellent experience ! So glad I chose this hike. I wanted something enduring and explorative while being educated at the same time. Our guides were fabulous. We were fortunate to have two since one was in training. Gustavo, our main guide, was great. He was very knowledgeable about the hike. Both Carlos and he educated us so much on the history of the forest, Rio, and Brazil. We had a great group too. Again, grateful for the experience. I'd recommend it, even if you are normally a solo hiker - you can't beat the social interaction!
I had the absolute pleasure of touring the Tijuca Forest with Ricardo, and I can't recommend him highly enough! From start to finish, he was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly engaging. His passion for the forest, its history, and its unique biodiversity was contagious—he brought the landscape to life with fascinating facts, local legends, and a deep respect for nature. Ricardo made sure everyone in our group felt comfortable and included, regardless of fitness level or prior hiking experience. He was attentive, patient, and always had a smile on his face. He also went above and beyond to ensure we saw the best viewpoints, waterfalls, and hidden gems that most tourists would miss. Thanks to Ricardo, I walked away not just with beautiful photos but with a deeper appreciation for Rio de Janeiro’s natural beauty. If you're considering a tour of Tijuca Forest, do yourself a favor and book with Ricardo—you won’t regret it!
Really enjoyed the day of hiking - both the trail as well as all the explanations and guidance by Riccardo. Very well done and definitely recommended! Thanks Riccardo!
I did the Tijuca forest challenge with Gustavo, had a great time! very professional and informative service. I do higy recommend Jungle Me for any hiking tours in Rio
Loved this experience, Riccardo was a brilliant guide and was accommodating for all of the group. Loved the views and learning more about the wildlife surrounding Rio!
This trip made for an amazing day. Our guide Gustavo was friendly and fun, full of knowledge, and a great resource even outside of the hike. He shared so much about the history and ecology of both Brazil and Tinuca throughout the day that I was left wanting to learn more and more. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a Carioca adventure. Ten out of ten without question and that is not a rating I give lightly.
Rio apart from the Beaches. Hiking through Tijuca Forrest to alternative (great) viewpoints. Perfectly and flexibly organized.
As a solo traveler, I was a bit nervous to book a hiking tour in the middle of a rainforest. I am so glad I decided to book this one!! Riccardo was a perfect guide - very informative and super cool, funny, down to earth, suggesting pictures to take, and made for a great experience. The hike was great with several stops at vistas for epic views, the biggest cave in Rio, and ending with a refreshing waterfall shower. Half the hike is uphill, so you need to be in good physical condition. You can go at your own pace, though. Highly recommend booking with Riccardo, and Luisa (guide in training) was fantastic as well! This was my favorite excursion in Rio as a lover of hikes and nature!
Pietro was our guide and he is amazing. Explained a lot about the history and nature of Brazil and Tijuca national park. There was only 1 other person booked so it was just the three of us. The hike was honestly much easier than expected and faster, but you do need stamina. Path is not very technical. The sights we saw were pretty, the waterfall at the start and the grotto and Chinese viewpoint. The shower at the end made me feel reborn. I took extra water because it was a hot day but i only used 2 liters.
Super Tourguide, very professional - everyone who is in Rio should do this! We saw the beautiful national park in a small group, there were enough time to ask questions and we got a lots of background information about the history of Rio de Janeiro. Thank you so much :-)
I really enjoyed this hike deep into the Tijuca forest. It was an intimate group of 6 and took several hours to complete. Bear in mind that a reasonable level of fitness is required for this given the steep gradients and often challenging paths that you encounter. Ricardo was an absolutely excellent and charming (and knowledgable) guide and it was a real pleasure to be led by him. The best part for me was having a shower in the waterfall at the end!!! I must do more of these hikes in Rio.
It was very good. There was supposed to be two hikers but one got sick so it became a private trip for the cost of a group. I think this was very good of them. A different trip the previous day, with a different tour company, was cancelled because of not enough people. So I thought it great of Jungle Me to continue the hike anyway. The hike was good. I was not as fast as I thought I would be but it all worked out and we were back on time. Tito was very knowledgeable about the history and the plants in the forest. The hike started with a history lesson about Brazil which I personally enjoyed. I would recommend it, if you are in shape, and it is a cooler time of year.
Fantastic team, enthusiasm and patience, I will definitely use them again when I’m back in Rio. Thank you! Don’t hesitate, they will deliver beyond your expectations!
Fantastic hike! I highly recommend it. Exploring the forest with our knowledgeable guide, Riccardo, was an absolute joy. He shared fascinating historical and biological insights about the forest, Rio de Janeiro, and Brazil, making the experience both fun and educational. The hike itself is moderately challenging, with a few short steep sections, but overall it's quite manageable. A great adventure for anyone looking to experience the beauty of nature and learn more about the area!
A fabulous day out. Ricardo our lead for the day was excellent. It was a small group (5) which we really liked. The views were amazing from the top. It was great to experience the rainforest not far from the centre of Rio. The waterfall at the end was lovely after several hours trekking
Tito is a friendly and very knowledgeable Tour Guide. I had a lot of fun and my group was awesome. I Can really recommend it!
The trip was amazing. On schedule, no delays. The group was very friendly and Tito answered all of our questions, always with a smile. He also gave us a great history lesson befare we started hiking so we can understand a lot better the place we were goint into. I would and will recommend it to anyone who would love one day of getting inside the beautiful nature of Brazil and understanding it’s history.
My experience in the Tijuca Forest was unforgettable, thanks to our amazing guide Alex. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared fascinating insights about the local flora and fauna. His expertise and passion truly enriched this adventure. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore the jungle with an expert guide!
My favorite thing that I did on my trip to Rio! I was a bit wary about the intensity of the hike at first but it was perfectly manageable. Riccardo was an excellent guide and took the time to answer all of our questions. Highly recommend!
Great tour! Very knowledgeable guide who spoke perfect English. Saw sloths, monkeys, interesting butterflies and coatis. Strain and level very well described on website. Best thing I did in Rio. Would go again!
Cool tour and great guide with lots of interesting historical insights of the area. It’s not too challenging, I feel anybody can do the tour in good condition.
Pietro was an incredible tour guide! We learned so much about the history of Brazil and the different climates in each region. He was very knowledgable and helped to make it a great experience. He helped us to accomplish our goal of reaching the top of the hike. Amazing experience!!
We had an amazing day with our guide Tito, the hike was brilliant with some challenging sections (as described) and stunning views over the city. Tito was extremely knowledgeable and great company. If you enjoy a hike, strongly recommend!
Incredible hike. Pietro, our guide, also explained all the history of Rio and Brazil in general, and it was super interesting! The hike was challenging but it’s worth it cause the landscapes that we got to see are stunning! Thanks Pietro!!!
Tito is a great tour guide. We enjoyed the hiking, the waterfall shower and great views from peaks
The hiking trip to Tijuca Rainforest was fantastic and very beautiful - and our guide Pietro was great. Try it - it is highly recommended!
Pietro gave us a great hike in the Tijuca forest. I really enjoyed the experience and it was great to get out of the hustle and bustle of Rio for a few hours. The pick up was on time. Once in the park we got a thorough lesson in the history of the park. We went to the top of one of the biggest hills in the park and took in the amazing scenery, there were beautiful waterfalls, nature, monkeys and caves! We refreshed with a dip in the waterfall. I would 100% recommend!
Great day with Ricardo our tour guide, who had lots of interesting conversation and knowledge. The hike was as expected length wise, and good for those who want a bit longer in the jungle than the other half-day tours. Mostly in-shade so walk is hot but at least not in direct sunlight for the most part. Saw monkeys, raccoons, frogs and lots of nice wildlife.
We were lucky to have Ricardo and a great two other guests, so there was us 2 and those making 4 people climbing. Which ended up being perfect, Ricardo was brilliant 👏 English perfect, knowledge on point. Very challenging in places, if you are capable then definitely do it. As totally worth it as views were out of this world. The waterfall shower at the end was fabulous 👌
Absolutely loved it! Our guide Pietro was extremely knowledgeable and before the walk, gave us an incredible introduction on the history of Brazil and Rjo. The forest was extremely beautiful and the hike doable! Highly raccomended! 🧡
TLDR: amazing experience, I give it 5/5. The all-day hike was indeed a challenge but well worth the effort. The trail can be steep sometimes and the guide forces a rather fast pace, but I got used to it after a few minutes. For people with poor stamina, I would suggest an easier trail, though. Overall, it was an excellent, professionally-planned and a well-prepared tour. The guide was extremely nice and helpful. Also, the organiser contacted me before the trip and was kind enough to pick me up from an unusual spot upon my request.
Fantastic experience!! It was quite tough going at times but the views at the top made it all worthwhile, and Pietro was a great and very informative guide! Many thanks
Brilliant experience, great place for people who enjoy nature and beautiful views. At the end of the tour you can swim at the waterfall which is wonderful
Wonderful views and a lovely hike in nature ending with a refreshing waterfall. Our guide was very knowledgeable and excited to share his love for this forest and city.
