Great location to learn to surf. First time for us, but great explanations and help from the friendly instructors.

We had our first family experience, and the lesson was so much fun. The water was beautiful, the sea conditions were perfect, and the instructors were very attentive and gave everyone plenty of attention.

I was so excited to do this activity because I’ve always wanted to surf. The biggest issue I had is that I was told there would be 8 people in our group and 3 instructors but there ended up being 13 people. There was no clear guidance or instruction when we actually got in the water. It’s impossible for 3 instructors to safely watch and help 13 people. I spent majority of my time in the water alone waiting on an instructor to come to me and help me catch a wave. We also had random instructors from other surf schools helping us because our instructors were occupied with other people from the class. Also, when a surfable wave is coming, we’re told to paddle and then the surfboard is pushed but I had no idea how long to paddle for or when I should actually standup to surf. My cousin isn’t a strong swimmer and she told the instructor that multiple times and she was barely paid any attention, which felt dangerous. She also had a random surfer stay with her to help which was extremely kind on their part, but not what she paid for. I think one the class has alot of potential if we would have actually stuck to the group limit.

My boyfriend and I booked this for our recent trip to Rio. Both of us love to surf, but it had been years since we’d been out on a board. The instructors are phenomenal! They ensure you have 1:1 feedback and the utmost safety of all surfers. We had such a fun experience we booked this again for the next day! Only wish we were in Rio longer to go surfing with them again :)

It was really great! The instructor explained it in a way everyone could understand. Might be my favorite activity in Rio de Janeiro. Again a big thanks to the instructor. He really mad it fun.

Excellent activity! We'd never surfed before, so we started with a theory lesson before getting in the water. Our instructors were extremely helpful, patient, and friendly, which made the experience even more fun and relaxing, even when we had some difficulties. It was a really fun activity, I highly recommend it!

Met with instructor, had quick lesson before surfing in the water, then we got into water and the instructor was supporting me and giving tips all the way. Caught a few great waves and had so much fun, recommend!

Had an absolutely great time - wife and myself and two boys (14/11) all first timers and the instruction, proportion of time on the water, and the laughs/smiles/fun were amazing. Ipanema beach is great. Recommend this for any family!

The team was very helpful before arriving and during experience. We learned so much and caught a lot of waves. They made it an enjoyable time for me and my fiancé to learn to surf together as first timers!

Really great and patient teacher! He showed me first the very basics on the beach and then we went straight to the waves. The lesson was a lot of fun and definitely worth its money.

Rafael was an amazing instructor. He gave specific and helpful mental and physical feedback. Taught me a lot in just an hour. His English is great. He is thoughtful, smart, and experienced. I enjoyed him and his teaching. As a middle-aged beginner, I was able to stay up several times. Had such a blast!

Great communication, reached out immediately after booking and answered all questions. Great one on one lesson - even in a group. Spoke English and Spanish. They tailored the lesson to your level of experience. They provided a wetsuit since the water was cold and your belongings are secure.

I’ve done two lessons with them and they are Amazing! The lessons teach me so much. The first one was basic . The 2nd one they told me was going to be a little difficult due to the waves but the instructor was very helpful and gave me tips the whole time. I can’t wait to go on my own!

My son and daughter took surf lessons at Matrix surf school and they had a good time. The instructors, especially Rafael are very dedicate and professional. We ended up booking 4 more lessons directly with them and Rafael gave us a very good price. Thank you Rafael.

I have never tried surfing before, so I took a class without doing much research just to see if I like it or not. My instructor Rafael showed me techniques, explained how to navigate the wave and let me discover it by myself, providing feedback when needed. He was friendly, trying to help and focused on you. My belongings were always safely kept at the tent. One class was definitely not enough to get it all, so I booked classes with a school directly. It was very flexible, we could decide the day before if the class takes place or not. Rafael was always ready to reschedule if the waves were not big enough, for me to get the best of it. I enjoyed the experience of riding the waves, as well as chatting with Rafael inbetween waves. Would definitely come back again.

I booked a surf lesson, but on the scheduled day the instructor informed me that the sea conditions were not favorable and canceled the lesson. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the next day, but the instructor kindly saved my class for me to use when I was available. My experience with Surf Matrix was incredible! I would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in learning to surf. Communication was excellent from start to finish. The instructor was amazing, very helpful and did a great job explaining the basic techniques and helping me catch waves!

It was a very nice surf lesson with a very good instructor. He teached me very well and sang a lot of Songs while waiting for the waves 😂 it was like a concert in the water. I really enjoyed it and had a nice time

We booked an english guide because thats the only language we speak and the man who came with us did not speak any english. I was not able to successfully surf because he could not give me any tips. You can get this for way cheaper somewhere else and just confirm in person that you have someone who speaks your language.

Perfect, super explained and had a lot of fun doing it. Definitely a must-do. I didn't think it would give me so much pleasure.

We were walking on the beach when a boy offered a surf class. We had never surfed before, but we topped up — and it was amazing! The class was super fun and we liked too much!

My first experience trying surf lessons was amazing. The instructor managed to convey his knowledge in a clear and easy to understand way, his patience and skill made all the difference in my learning.
