Fabulous bike tour. Sean was a fantastic tour guide who was passionate about his city. Amazing insights and history provided to all on the tour. Highly recommend this tour. Just a note that When you arrive at the tour place the really aren’t any signs but you will see the bus stop right in front of the office. Just wait by the bus stop and then they will open the gates and bring out bikes!

Great tour. Riding was mostly flat so made for an enjoyable morning seeing Rio. Took in lots of the sights and the guide was very informative and accommodating.
This was a fun bike ride through various neighborhoods of Rio. Though the route had to be changed due to the carnival street parties it was still a great time. Douglas was our bike leader and he provided interesting commentary and kept a relaxed pace. There were plenty of stops along the way. We are in our late 60s and found this to be a fun way to see Rio from a different perspective.
This was a great experience with an amazing guide. We thought that the bikes could be upgraded to make the tour even better. Iris the guide had great knowledge of the city and its history and made it very interesting.
This was a terrific overview of the city. Be aware that the bike lanes in Rio are not that wide. There were plenty of stops and a nice rest at Flamingo beach. Loved it!
Douglas was an amazing tour guide! Brought Rio and the city’s history to life for us! Highly recommend!
This was a Great ride , lots of interesting content explained about the areas we rode , and the most amazing views along the way. Recommend
We had a wonderful half day being lead around the sights and sounds of Rio. Our guide Marko was very friendly and spoke excellent English. The pace was just right with a lovely scenic drink stop. We had a small group of 6 turn up and shared our travels together during the social ride. Really enjoyed thanks.
Douglas was an awesome guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It made Rio seem much more alive for us, and we saw many beautiful and amazing sites. I’m still in awe of the cannonball tree. We highly recommend it.
Really recommend this bike tour. Felt like I got under the ‘skin’ of Rio by cycling through the various parts of the city and being taken to some amazing spots and learning the history/facts our guide talked through . A little hectic at times on the busy streets, but this is a very small part of the ride. If you are a nervous cyclist or have too young/inexperienced children on bikes this is not for you. We had a 12&14 year old s and they loved it - as did we!
Ulysses was an excellent tour guide who showed us Copacabana beach and downtown Rio. He animated the activity with his personal life experience, thus making it personal. Was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!
A bit tricky finding their home base, but since they were taking the bikes outside I could spot them easier. The 3 hour bike tour had a nice pace to it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Remember a hat, the sun is brutal in some parts. Would have been nice to have my own pannier for my bike but the guide was kind enough to carrier my pack for us. Big thank you for that. Very fun, highly recommended.
We did the panoramic tour as a first sight seeing of Rio. Wim was our guide and he did a perfect job. We did the highlights in south of rio, but visiting these by bike makes the difference. Knowledgeable guide.
Our guide, Doug, was amazing. Full of information and really funny and quirky. Brought Rio to life for us. It was an amazing tour with wonderful views of Rio. A great way to get round the city and the tour wasn't too taxing. Would definitely recommend.
A fun alternative way to explore the lovely city of Rio. Our guide Ulyses was great, friendly and helpful. He chose a great route to see many sights. Only downside, the bikes are a bit old, with no gears so after about4 hrs, you feel it. A bit of hard work! Still enjoyed it.
This was a great itinerary, covering beaches and downtown. Marco was our guide and he shared a lot of insights giving us a well-balanced view of life in Rio.
Excellent tour. Had a fantastic time on this bike tour. I totally recommend it. The tour guide was very informative and friendly.
We have done a LOT of city bike rides, all over the world. So we know when it’s good and this was definitely great. We were late (useless Uber driver) but our guide was totally chilled and couldn’t have been more accommodating. He managed to get the balance right with the amount of information, plenty of rest stops, plenty of drinks and he certainly knew the city well. Plus a great sense of humour and lots of tips of places to go and restaurants. Thank you, Ulysses!
Went on bike tour with our Dutch guide Marco , he had fun stories to tell, bring a hat , gets hot on the bike . Saw all the famous spots .
A wonderful tour to get acquainted with the city in a relaxed way. Plenty of opportunity to admire the bay and enjoy the well-known highlights. Experienced guide, telling interesting facts and anecdotes about this amazing city. Absolutely a must for everybody with at least basic bike-riding skills.
Philip was a great guide, it was a wonderful time exploring the city by bike. Better than a walking tour in my opinion, because it's easier to cover more ground in the same time. Highly recommend!
The Rio by bike is a great tour for anyone wanting to explore Rio. Our guide was really informative and the route is almost all on bike lanes so is accessible to all levels. It was raining when we arrived in the morning for our tour but Jan was very accommodating and let us join the afternoon group and gave us some suggestions of places to eat and see to fill our time. A really nice team and definitely worth booking!
Overall a pleasant bike ride with brief stops along the way introducing some popular spots of Rio. Most of the routes were on bike lanes, but there were certain sections that were either slightly uphill or riding along with the busy city traffic. Nothing too strenuous or daunting though.
We were promptly received outside the Rio Othon hotel, Copacabana meeting point by Jan with whom I organised the tour a week prior and Marco who took us on the tour on the actual day. The bike tour is really informative, professionally structured and well executed. Marco has a wealth of knowledge about Brazil’s history as well as the various points we stop at and ensures you are given all of the details. We most certainly enjoyed the overall tour and went away with plenty of knowledge about Rio and Brazil. The tour we selected was the 4hour panoramic one which lasts the entire time period from start to finish. The actual bike ride although lengthy it may be, about 28kilometres round trip, the gentle pace is relaxing and enjoyable indeed. A must tour for everyone who visits Rio.
The perfect way to understand the history of the city, it's values and where to go! 🙏 The guides took us to the most interesting spots in town telling us the most amazing things. From amazing hikes with incredible views, to bike tours through the city and even going into favelas like you are one of the community. Friendly, thoughtful guides with who you can have a talk about anything. I would always recommend these guys! 👊
Booked a tour last minute, due to my plans not being set in stone. Rio by bike was able to accommodate me. Jan was on time and met me to give me all the info regarding the tour, had a map and was able to make an adjustment since I had already seen one of the attractions on the tour and change it out for something else. I was the only one of the tour due to the pandemic and tourism being down. I had an excellent time seeing all parts of the city while learning about history, culture and life in Brazil. I highly recommend this bike tour company. Also, the roads were pretty flat so even if you are not an experienced biker you can do it! Loved seeing the city this way, traffic was not bad either so no concerns, there are also a lot of bike lanes which will help you feel safe. Book it!
We really enjoyed our Panoramic Bike Tour with Rio by Bike. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient when it came to answering all of our questions. I would highly advise booking this tour
Really nice experience, Rio can be a busy city but our guide took us through some easy sites whilst getting some exercise around a great city.bikes are okay easy to ride it’s not that strenuous honestly.
I had an excellent time with Rio by bike. I was travelling solo in January 2020 and bumped into Rio by bike on trip advisor. Calling and booking was super easy. On the day of my ride, I was the only one on the tour and I appreciate the fact that they didn’t cancel it because of too few people- they ended up taking me on a solo tour which was brilliant. The tour guide cycled at my pace so I didn’t feel rushed, had a good knowledge of the city and we stopped for a refreshing coconut break. We took loads of photos and I appreciated Rio’s beauty the more. Most of the cycling is on bike lanes and by water; what’s not to love? It was awesome and I would recommend! Also the açaí berry sold at the store next door to the Rio by bike shop is amazing!
What an awesome way to spend your first day in Rio! On a bike. We booked the Panoramic bike tour with this company and had such great fun. Our group was diverse and luckily not more than six people, from Europe and a couple from Canada. The guide was a local with good English. His information during the tour contained more than just some facts about the sights and the different neighborhoods, we also got a lot of insight in the local culture and customs. I really liked that aspect. The bicycles were good, with hand breaks and no gears - the route was basically flat. Helmets were also provided for. If you go, bring sun block and drink a lot of water. It can get hot in Rio.
We booked this back in October as something different to do whilst in Rio for Carnival. Turned out to be a great choice as Rio is extremely busy during this time so the usual tourist traps had massive queues. The bikes were comfortable and easy to ride despite us both being over 55 and many years since we had been on bikes. The route worked well and we got to see a closer view of the real Rio compared to most others who were on the same cruise as us. The only reason I've not given five stars is I think it would have been better for all if the guide had spent just a little more time getting to know us and our experience (or lack of) and had provided a summary of what the route would cover. Ideally, just showing us on a map where we were going and what we would see so we had a clear idea of what to expect and how well we were doing for time. We had a couple of incidents where clients (one being my wife) came off their bikes. Fortunately nothing worse than bruises and always a risk when trying to take in all the sights and ride safely along crowded and unfamiliar cycle paths and routes. We were never cycling amongst traffic. When we started it was very hot and sunny. Fortunately the guide offered us some of his sunblock which we were silly to forget. Luckily it clouded over so it was very pleasant and even the rain for the last 30 minutes didn't spoil the fun.
The tour itself was great as we got a chance to see Rio's cemetery (it was quite similar to the Recolet in Buenos Aires), saw the famous Lapa stairs, got to see the center of Brazil and other places we wouldn't have seen on our own. It would have gotten full marks from me if the guide was more attentive to where everyone was on the tour (left people behind 3 times), knew how to speak on delicate matters such as; the racism in Brazil and cultural division, the church's opinion on where the country is and sexist comments once we arrived back at the office. Someone from our group also got harassed by a homeless local in the center and the guide did NOTHING. I would have not expected him to go full superman mode but a guided responsibility is to look after the group. Specially considering that Brazil can be quite dangerous. I have been on other bike tours and this was definitely one I would remember for the wrong reasons.
We joined this tour during our 5 day trip to Rio. We ended up in a group of 5 plus our Dutch guide Zand (?) and his maintenance back up guy. The bike collection shop is easy to find and helmets available if you wish (we did as Rio traffic can be a bit bonkers). The tour travels to various points of interest including the city cemetery, selaron steps (you stop here for a drink break too) beaches and CBD. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of info on Rio. The cycling was generally easy although some is on the busy roads, Zand kept us safe. A good way to explore the city.
My hotel wasn’t on the list so had to get a taxi to the shop. Not expensive approx 40Brazillian$. Met by a really enthusiastic team and given our bikes. Nothing fancy. A traditional sit up bike. All adjustable for comfort. Zan our guide for the day was superb. Easy, knowledgeable and paced it right for the group. Over the 4 hours you make several stops, for sights, drinks, snacks and shade. The ride was easy and predominantly flat!. A couple of short inclines which most managed but those who didn’t it was a very short walk up. Most of the day was on bike paths. Had the option to wear a helmet. It wasn’t cheap, and yes you could do the whole thing on a street bike but Zans knowledge, stories and insite made the morning really fun and enjoyable. Would recommend and use again. I got a metro back for 5Brazillian$ easy!
Absolutely fun and informative tour thank you Steven it was well planed, organized and beautifully set.
Well... where to start? This is more than a bike ride. This is more than a city tour. This is your real life, pop up guide book. Do it at the start of your trip as not only do you pick up tips for the rest of your stay but it gives you confidence with the city. Our guide Juliana was particularly good. I came away feeling like I’d made a friend. She wears her heart on her sleeve and having therefore seen it- I can confirm she loves Rio. And so will you when you finish this trip. Book it now!
I travelled solo to Rio, and did this tour with a group of 5 others. I think it is the best way to see Rio! The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable, and the route is very scenic. I would highly recommend!
Awesome bike tour with Juliana and Philip. Kid's had a great time as did the wife and I. Water was supplied. Rode past Pao de Acucar, CaRIOca aqueduct, selaron steps etc.. Philip and Juliana were helpful navigating us through the busy streets of Rio. Highly recommend this tour.Bring sunscreen and a hat..!!
I wanted to write a review to help others set expectations. It's a good bike ride. I probably should have made it clear that we wanted a tour and an experience and not just a bike ride. Our group had two members that rode slow so we ended up riding as two groups where the guide and two members were about 5 min ahead and they would stop and wait. Then as soon as the last two would arrive, the guide would leave. Most guides will help find great picture spots. Needless to say, we have one picture of our family from the ~16 miles we rode together. I can find lots of explanations, but the fact remains we had a family of four with a single guide and there was only one spot by Sugar Loaf where the guide took a picture of my family. It really felt like the goal was riding the bike and not touring the city as a group with a guide that can provide insights about history, etc. So, if you want a great bike ride, either rent your own bikes or take this bike ride tour. But, if you want an experience where you get the feeling like you got to see something you couldn't see on your own, then this may not be the tour for you.
I did the panoramic tour on a Sunday with Ivan and it was incredible. Such an amzign route and such a considerate guide. Ivan was so knowledgeable and made sure that we were always comfortable and answered all my questions and gave some amazing recommendations
I can’t recommend this bike tour highly enough, it really was one of the highlights of my recent short trip to Rio de Janeiro. I was doubly lucky - the weather was absolutely glorious and I also ended up having a private tour! My guides were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and I felt completely safe at all times throughout the tour. We cycled at a nice steady pace on good cycle lanes and only a small proportion was in traffic. The tour included plenty of options to take photos, and lots of interesting local knowledge about the areas we visited. If you’re visiting the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro and want a slightly different tour, then I highly recommend Rio by Bike!
Fantastic trip start to finish would highly recommend excellent guide and great way to see Rio and get lots of hints and tips and see amazing places if you are going to Rio book this trip for the start of you holiday is a great day
This bike tour was a very enjoyable day out, our guide was very pleasent, helpful and informative, I would recommend this tour to see lots of the city.
The tour is very well-crafted, organized, and not difficult. The guide (don't remember his name - red hair) was very nice and friendly. The bikes were modern and light and the itinerary safe and clear. I totally recommend it to family and friends!
Great overview of Rio, suggest you take this on your first day to get a lay of the land. Daniel was an excellent guide and gave us a lot of information about the city and details on the places we visited on the tour. Also a lot of great recommendations on food, nightlife, and other places to visit in Rio. Easy ride with mostly flat terrain. Highly recommended!!
This small group bike tour lets you both see and feel Rio at the same time. You get to see areas that is diffucult to reach by car/bus, and you stop at interesting points while learning about the city and its people. Our bike guide, Markus, took us to several not so well known sights as well as the more well known sights. The biking is not challenging in Ríos flat areas, and Markus gave us an educational tour! This is a nice tour which I highly recommend.
Fantastic! We had the most amazing guide who was really knowledgable and fun. This is the best way to see the sites and get a real flavour of Brazil. Absolutely loved it- a real highlight of our time in Brazil. Highly recommend!
The tour was fun and our guide imparted lots of interesting information. It stared to rain near the end of the tour and the guide pulled out ponchos for those who did not have jackets
For any visit in Rio de Janeiro I would absolutely recommend the RioByBike tours!! During my 3 day stay, I took part in the Panoramic Tour which was awesome! The tour is great for exploring the city and gives also a lot of information. The guide of the tour was amazing and had many interesting stories about the places to tell. Service was great and communication easy - so definitely a 5star experience :)
Ulysses was a fantastic guide for my adventure around the central parts of Rio! The weather may not have been picture-perfect, but our little group had a lovely ride around the bay and central city area. Uly was very knowledgable, patient and friendly. My only regret was not opting for the longer tour! Well, maybe not since it started raining about an hour after we finished our tour... There's so much of Rio to explore. I can't wait to come back and see more of it with these folks.
