About Activity
Rio de Janeiro was the first city declared a World Heritage Site as an Urban Cultural Landscape — and few ways of appreciating that distinction rival the view from the water. This shared boat tour departs from Urca Pier, passing the São João Fortress, site of the first Portuguese settlement in the city, before circling Sugarloaf Mountain for a first swimming stop near Vermelha Beach. The route continues through Guanabara Bay past the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema toward the Cagarras Islands, a protected marine sanctuary and the tour's second swimming stop. The return journey skirts the Santa Cruz Fortress before a final dive near Adão and Eva beaches, where Niemeyer's iconic Museum of Contemporary Art crowns the Niterói skyline across the water — a fittingly spectacular final frame for the Marvellous City.
