Rocinha Local Tour

An Eye-Opening and Truly Authentic Experience in Rocinha Favela. I felt completely safe the entire time. Luiz was attentive, stayed with us closely, and made sure the small group of 6 moved smoothly.

Our guide was so friendly and informative. We had a really good time walking around the area and learning about the history and present.

Luiz was a great tour guide; he took care of us the whole time. He knows a lot about trees and told us many interesting things.

Our guide was so informative and nice to tour with. He even asked if we would wait a little for another couple who were running late. We waited and waited but in the end we had to leave. I believe the lady became very abusive on text and this was so unfair to our guide as we all waited for some time. It was their duty to turn up on time like we did. Anything she says in a review I would ignore, it is unjustified! He is brilliant, kind and patient.

I highly recommend this tour to anyone staying in Rio. We were a bit hesitant booking this tour but our guide luiz put our minds at rest and opened our eyes on life in a favela. I guarantee you will truly see what life is really like instead of what the films show you! We really enjoyed this tour of the favela. Luiz was very kind and knowledgeable as he grew up and lives in the favela. He was very welcoming and happy to answer any questions. It gave me a new perspective on the favelas - it was very interesting and different to what I expected. I felt safe with Luiz the whole time, would highly recommend!

About the Favela: I felt very safe and welcomed by the community. It is important to take the tour so that you can see the REAL part of Rio de Janeiro. Also, I realized that the favela is different from what the media shows. I totally recommend!

Our guide Luiz is very nice and friendly person. The meeting point were in Centro Municipal in favela a then we went through all favela down. We were only two persons and witnhout lunch we spent in favela 1,5hours. Very interesing, Luiz tell you how the favela working and show you everything important.

It was nice experiance to walk around the favela with Louis. He is a citizen of Rochinha so you can feel save with him - he will tell you where you can take pics, where to hide phone etc. Everybody knows him and he has like a social permission to walk with tourists. Also, if you have any question, feel free to ask - he knows everything and his English is pretty good :)

The tour was amazing, we got to learn social, political, economical facts about Rocinha presented in an veritable way by a local guide. I recommend visit Rocinha and I truly recommend picking this tour guide.

Visited Rocinha favela with new friend Luiz who couldn’t be nicer.. great information and mind blowing experience for someone who has been to Rio many times but never experienced the hilled landscape and community of a Brazilian favela. Highly recommend

I met my guide at the station at 3pm - from there we took a little walk to meet some kids from the Favela who put on a little show for us. Most of the people who was on the tour joined and had a little dance. After that, we made our way up the Favela with the guide explaining how things work in the Favela. Really insightful stuff and I learned a lot from our guide. We reached the top and took photos and enjoyed a drink to cool down. The tour was pretty amazing - I was actually thinking of doing it again. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know any information about the Favelas and take amazing photos. Thank you

Luiz is such a good guide! He was very nice and explained how were leaving the people from the Favela, why it was the way it is, took us to a capoeira show, to some stunning viewpoints, to his home and to a delicious local restaurant! The tour was amazinggg, I wish it lasted longer even if we spent 3 hours in the Favela! Also, don’t be fool by what people might say and think about the safety, it was SUPER safe and the people were very nice too, always saying hi and smiling! I HIGHLY recommend this tour you won’t be disappointed!

Luiz was simply the best. He is more than prepared to answer every question, gives a lot of background info at various points in the favela. He is experienced tour guide, passionate about his surroundings. If you have some special request, he will definitely try to offer you the best option. And don't be afraid for your safety, he knows where to take you. I would chose him again, for sure. Luiz, thanks once again. It was really the experience worth doing, especially if you want to see the real situation, not the one that is presented through media.

This felt like an in depth and hands on view of the favela! Luis being a resident of the favela meant we felt very secure and he knew so much about the history and misconceptions of favelas. It ended up being just my husband and I but he still made the effort to show us around and was enthusiastic and informative throughout, even taking lots of pics for us! Only thing I would say is there is a lot of walking and comfortable shoes are a must, also not suitable for those with vertigo! Other than that I think maybe some clear facts about the history of slavery and favelas would be more useful such as dates etc all in all really enjoyed it!

Was an amazing tour from Luiz who is also part of this community and knows the area exceptionally well. We had a private tour. Showed us areas we never thought existed. I would recommend his tour anytime. Be prepared to dance and lots of walking. Wear comfy shoes. This was indeed the highlight of our stay in Rio.

Our family of four just travelled the world exploring many places and connecting with communities. It isn’t easy to access a favela, especially with children age 12 and 8 but we were in excellent hands from the moment we met Luiz. His insight and care for his community is deep. He showed us the many layers of Rocinha and shared the history of how it came to life. We learnt so much about the complexities of black history in Brazil. We felt welcomed into this community and highly recommend Luiz to lead you through an understanding of life in a favela. Plus the motorbike ride up to the top was a highlight! Thanks Luiz, we’ve talked about this experience so much already with our friends and family back home in Australia. I hope many others join you as a guide through your home.

Luiz came and picked us up from our hotel and took us to Rocinha favela by metro it was all nicely organised and we experienced lots of things from capoeira dancing to motorcycle taxis to the amazing views from the top of the favela and then walked all the way down while Luiz was talking us through the history and the struggles of the favela. It's an eye opener and a must do if you're ever in Rio and I highly recommend Luiz such a nice guy speaks fluent English and will take lots of nice photos of you while you're going around.

My partner and I did this tour with Luiz a while ago and it is one of the best experiences I remember from Brazil. We were looking for a guided walk and led by a local person to learn for real. I highly recommend it!!

Luiz was born and raised in this favela. So who knows them best than not him. It is a great experience to walk through the largest favela and see life from the inside and feel that atmosphere.

My favorite part of the trip was the arrival at the bottom of the favela in tiny alleys

It started as an adventure ride, scared with the ignorance of those who do not know and we went down in wonder. La Rocinhia gave us the most beautiful postcards and smiles in Rio!!! Luiz is a genius! he understood my fear of motorcycle taxis and took us on a proper tour, although he does not admit it (he is very modest) he handles Spanish very well, he is super responsible and attentive. Recommended 100%, we will return!!!!
