Incredible hike with amazing views from the top. The scrambling section was a lot of fun - our guid Eduardo made sure we were roped up for safely and gave clear instructions. It was very hot and humid - part of the instructions said bring 3 litres of water and we really did need that amount. Eduardo was a great guide, I would absolutely recommend.

Itinerary
The Pedra da Gávea Trail is located in Sector C of the Tijuca National Park
You will take a traditional trail to Pedra da Gavea of about two and a half hours to reach the top.
The hike is steep and has several natural obstacles that must be overcome. There is some basic rock climbing section called Carrasqueira, but no previous experience is necessary here as your guide will help you using all the safety techniques and procedures necessary. The descent is made by a technique similar to rappelling (abseiling), but the guide is the one who controls the equipment and the descent. This allows formore comfort and safety. You just need to relax, enjoy and take lots of photos. The climate is hot and humid, making the Pedra da Gavea hike an excellent exercise. If you have an adventurer's soul and want to see Rio de Janeiro seen from above, this is the tour you are looking for.

Fantastic experience. Friendly guides, amazing views, altogether a highlight of my visit to Rio. Highly recommended if you’re reasonably fit and steady on your feet!
The one in Pedra da Gávea has been the most amazing hike of my whole life. It's challenging, but climbing was pure adrenaline! And the view at the top of the mountain was breathtaking! So worth it!!! Definitely go for it if you're trained enough. Eduardo, the tour guide, paid attention for us to be safe all the time.
We had the most amazing guy his name was Sergio and he was not only knowledgeable, but so friendly and fun and made it easy to hike with him. He also made us feel super safe and took us on such an incredible journey. We would highly recommend this hike.
The best hike I’ve done.Sergio the tour guide is very dedicated, very knowledgeable friendly and helpful.took his time on every difficult section of hike.made sure that everyone is safe.we are lucky to have a perfect weather, the top of Pedra da gavea is surrounded by a beautiful landscape it overlooks on every angle side of Rio.
Pedro was an amazing guide. Super funny guy, very knowledgeable and very friendly. The hike is one of the best I have ever done and I will for sure comeback in the future.
Great guide. Good in communications. Well organized. Unfortunately we did not have view due to rain but overall enjoyed the trip. Since the rocks were wet it was a bit tricky but all went good.
Amazing experience hiking and mountain climbing. All the guides did an awesome job of keeping us happy and safe! Highly recommended to anyone with a bit of hiking experience and sense of adventure!
This hime was challenging but our guide was patient, professional, and hilarious. If you are looking for a challenge I highly recommend.
I booked this trip based on the TripAdvisor reviews. I was sceptical about booking with this company but as they don't charge a single supplement I took a chance with them. With hindsight I probably would have booked with another company. So the good points Pedra da Gávea is probably the best hike to do in Rio. Rabbling down the rock was great fun and the quality of the photos taken by the guide (Lucas) was super. It is a challenging hike but very manageable too, albeit a good level of fitness is required. Their are other companies that do all of the above too fyi. I booked an English speaking tour. As their was only two booked on the English tour we were algimated with the Spanish speaking tour so the tour essentially became a Spanish speaking tour. The company has "form" in doing such a thing from reading other reviews here. The guide didn't have a good level of English in my opinion so other people on the tour had to translate to English. Given their is a bit of technical climbing involved I was a bit uncomfortable by that if a problem was to arise. That said I really did enjoy the trek primarily because Pedra da Gávea is so good but the company didn't add a whole lot to the experience imho.
I went with a group of avid hikers and this was definitely a highlight of our trip. Our guide, Sergio, took great care of us and provided a lot of interesting history of the area. The views were incredible. The weather was perfect and the trails were well kept. Definitely would recommend to anyone
It was such an amazing hike! Highly recommended! You definitely need to get a guide if you are not used to rock climbing. It’s a very hard hike that gets harder as you go up. You need to be in good health and shape to do it. You also need to not be afraid of heights otherwise this is not for you! This is a challenging hike but the view on the top are priceless. Our guide was wonderful and helped us throughout the hike (the rock climbing part).
This one one of the best hikes I’ve ever been on. Our guide Lucas was very helpful throughout the entire hike and the views were breathtaking.
Our guide Sergio was amazing. Very nice and funny and helped everyone get up and down safely. The trail is 3 hours each way with 1 hour at the top for photos and rest. It is very steep the whole way so be prepared but the views at the top are more than worth the hike.
Amazing hike and great experience! Easily the best thing we did in Rio! Can't recommend enough. Tour guide was very helpful and friendly.
Everything went smoothly. Eduardo was very knowledgeable and skilled with the hike/climb. He was full of information about the flora and fauna.
Sergio our guide was amazing and made the 6 hour trek/climb much more enjoyable, highly recommend him and if back in Rio will get him to take us on some other adventures Thanks Sergio
This hike is absolutely awesome and highly recommended to sporty people who are safe hiking parts where you have to climb a little bit with no rope(!). Note that the key points of the hike are unsecured and you need to be in a physical condition that allows huge steps on partly slippery rocks. If not sure-footed and free from giddiness, this hike is not recommended. Make Sure you ask for guide Luiz Fernando, he excellently guides you throughout the way.
Amazing experience hiking + climbing to the top of Pedra da Gavea. Better to prepare for hiking boots and bring a lot of water and prepare yourself for small climbing & roping. The view on the top is totally worth it.
The hike and climb was a bit difficult but so my triumph once reaching the top. Sergio was so amazing. The most patient human being I’ve ever met. He continuously controlled me to “control my fears” which gave me so much trust into his instructions. 10/10 highly recommend.
Sergio was my guide, absolutely fantastic service the whole day, spoke good English which helped a gringo like me. Really fun day of hiking, rock climbing and taking in the views. Also provided great service in showing the best spots for photos and taking them for the group. Would recommend to anyone thinking of going
Nattrip was really flexible and supportive when booking this hike tour. Thomas was an amazing guide who helped us hike the Pedra da Gavea ! He had a really good energy all throughout the hike and really helped us with the climbing + rappeling part which was a bit difficult a lot of people in our group. I would really recommend this tour and to take Thomas, it will be a memorable experience!
No guide needed, severely overpriced, very friendly couple and good English but if you have minimal climbing skills no guide needed as you can even hire the gear when you are up there.
This was such a cool experience. The hike is challenging; come prepared with the correct shoes, water, sunscreen, light snack and a backpack. Our guide Thomas was awesome! He made the trip, I felt super safe (we went the “hard” route that included rock climbing) as well as provided cool history/ info about Rio. I am so glad I did this, would highly recommend.
It was a good things to do this hiking, It was hard but it worth all the effort we put to reach the top of the rock. Luiz is a excellent guide, he knows his stuffs and was so helpful with us. If you are in Rio, don't miss this opportunity!
This was the best hike! Unmatched views. Challenging hike but so worth it. The tour guide took great care of us.
Our guide was Eduardo. He « practiced « his English with us , as he said. He spoke English good enough for us to understand everything he tried to communicate. His pace was good, and we managed to keep up with him! We’re an older couple... we lucked out as we were the only hikers that day on that tour . It was definitely a challenge but loved it. He does a loop hike instead of an out and back which makes it more interesting. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the top as clouds and rain started as we got to the cave. Still had a few great view points on the way. Saw 2 different species of monkeys which was very nice. We got some marmoset monkeys an arm length away at some point! Lovely day, amazing guide. Well worth it.
From the beginning all the way down to the end my guide was awesome, knowledgeable, and knew exactly what he was doing. The hike was challenging but the reward you get after the difficulties are breathtaking. Definitely not easy but definitely worth it. Got some great shots with my drone! Definitely recommend this hike to anyone who ever visits Rio!
Awesome Hiking trip with a very good guide. We were fortunate to get a clear view from the top (clear of clouds). The guide was excellent and we felt safe during the whole hike including the section where we used rope gear to climb and descend.
This was one of my highlights of my time in Rio. The climb was hot, humid and steep so please do not underestimate it, you need a good level of fitness to make it to the top. The climb had a technical element, where we had to use ropes and harnesses, but nothing too difficult. In the end it was well worth the effort as the views are spectacular. The trip was well organised, I had good contact with the company and conformation the day before. Guilherme who guided was fantastic, sharing his knowledge and experiences all the way, couldn’t ask more from him!
I was lucky enough to be in Rio for work and as soon as I saw Pedrea de Gavea I knew I needed to get to the the top. A quick google search and look through the positive reviews here led me to book this tour and I'm glad I did! If you're not an experienced local you definitely need a guide. My guide Lucas was fantastic. He patiently led me and two others through steep jungle paths and up the granite rock face to the most rewarding view of Rio. I recommend this hike and Lucas as a guide to experience you won't soon forget.
Our guide Lucas was very nice and knowable about the place, they provided a necessary equipment to make the hiking part safe and the view up there was really worth it. 100%recommend nattrip and Lucas as a guide.
I believe that the best tours should show you parts of the world you can't read in a book. The real way the locals live and hike. When Guilherme does a tour, he does just that. We saw parts of Pedra da Gavea that no-one else gets to see. He was incredibly safe, insanely knowledgeable and just an awesome human. If you like seeing the local side, and want a true adventure, he is your man. 100/10 would recommend. Although you may want to book soon because when I come back, I am booking his time to do a multi day hike through the mountains ;)
The first time I saw the picture of Pedra da Gávea outlook I decided to hike up. Although the hike/climb is possible without a guide I highly recommend a professional guide if you don’t have good climbing experience and are in very good physical shape. We had William (“Thaleswil” on Instagram). He brought us safe up and down.
This is such a great hike. We had Didi as the tour guide and he was exceptional. Great English and made the experience feel very fun. Equipment was defiantly needed and he helped us the whole way. It was a tremendous experience. You have to do this in Rio.
The hike itself is amazing, the views, terrain, plants and animals were all just very cool. We met up with the guide Diogo and he was awesome. He guided us, gave us extra information about the area, the plants and animals. He was a consummate professional and really loves his job. I would highly recommend this hike and ask for Diogo if possible.
I'll never forget this day- really strenuous but totally worth it. Amazing views from the top, and great fun getting up there- lots of clambering and even some rope-climbing/ abseiling. Our guide, Guilherme, was so knowledgeable and fun. Some people were trying to do this route on their own but I would recommend you definitely need a guide, otherwise you will get lost/ need help rock-climbing to the top.
This hike was very long and strenuous (about 3 hrs each way), but our guide, Lucas, made it absolutely fun and safe! The view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking - the best view in Rio in my opinion - and it's definitely worth it if you're up for the hike! We met at 7:30am in a square close to the entrance of Tijuca National Park, then we set out for the hike as soon as the park opened at 8am. We brought 3 liters of water each (we needed all of it), plus sunscreen, bug repellent, and lunch. Lucas brought the rest of the gear we needed for climbing, including ropes, harnesses, and helmets, which we used for the carrasqueira section. The hike was very rigorous up through the forest, but it was well shaded and Lucas pointed out many interesting sights along the way (he spoke excellent English, so there was no language barrier). We took plenty of breaks and paced ourselves well. Near the top, we left the forest and climbed the carrasqueira section in the full sun. It wasn't too difficult with the climbing gear, but we were definitely glad we used it. It was very steep, and there's a long way down to fall. After a rigorous ascent, we reached the summit at around 11am. The view was incredible, and we spent about 2 hours enjoying it and eating lunch. Lucas took pictures for us and guided us to the very summit of the plateau, which was awesome. Afterwards, we started the 3-hour trip down. The climbing gear came in most handy while we were descending the carrasqueira section. We saw other hiking groups attempting to do this without gear, but it looked both difficult and terrifying. We were really thankful we chose to go with the climbing gear and guide in the end since we didn't have to worry about falling or getting lost along the trail - just taking great pictures! Overall, it was one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking adventure in Rio. Thank you, Lucas and Nattrip!
Our guide, Didi was very knowledgable about the region, park and mountain. The trek to the summit was challenging but a great workout. The views from the summit are absolutely breathtaking. I only wish we spent more time up there. I would definitely do this again!
This tour was on the TOP things we did in RIO. Jessie was our tour guide and was amazing. She knew here way to the top and every single step to be safe from bottom to top and back. When reaching the top of the walk, the view was among the most beautiful views I have seen. If you like trekking, mountaineering, out doors, little bit of rock climbing, and have little bit above average stamina, then this is the tour to go. Extremely highly recommended.
Amazing hike and fun climb with an awesome guide (Lucas) and spectacular views! Remember to bring lots of water!
I decided to not spend another day at the beach and called up Nattrip to see if they have a last minute availability for the tour. They indeed helped me at 6 in the evening to book the tour and arrange the transportation to the base station for Pedro da Gavea. We had two guys from Italy, a couple from France and my self, from QC,Canada. Our guide was really helpful and funny and showed us the basics of Rock Climbing and safety procedures. We took stunning pictures from the top of the mountain. It was truly marvelous.

A great experience... As a beginner I thought it will be too difficult to reach the top but fortunately it was not that bad thanks to our great guide Lucas, there was a portion which we climbed using tools and ropes though you don't need that if you are experienced and the views from the top are spectacular.

Don't recommend never showed up.Returned our calls over 2 hours later and said sorry but could not give us a reason as to why no one showed up.Very frustrating, wasted our time completely! We were unable to organise another operator with the late notice so we missed out completely, very dissapointing

The view atop this mountain was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life! Be aware however, that you will be doing some serious mountain climbing on this excursion and will get dirty. The climb takes around 8 hours up and down, so eat a good breakfast and you may want to bring snacks and of course water for along the way. No bathrooms along the way, so if you are shy about relieving yourself in the woods, this is something you should know. Our guide Didi was extremely trustworthy, patient and supportive, I would give him 5 stars!!

From the Natriip agency, the guide Sergio was very attentive from his arrival; we felt very safe throughout the journey, attentive at every step we took with his instructions, a lot of safety with the ropes, we learned many varied things about climbing and even about the history of the city and the country, which greatly enriches the journey; we definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to do these plans, thank you very much!!!
Eduardo was an excellent guide, and I can recommend this excursion in the gavea stone for everyone visiting Rio de Janeiro!
Fantastic hike to the most beautiful peak with a magnificent view. Our guide Sergio had the perfect pace for the two-hour ascent.
The best hike in Rio. Very well organized. Mandatory guide from my point of view, there is 1 technical passage that requires insurance. Exceptional final view. Thanks to our great didi guide.
We did the Pedra da Gávea trail and it was incredible, our guide Sérgio made the long trail time go by quickly and calmly, telling us very interesting stories and curiosities about Rio, and also reassured us with the climbing and rappelling in the carrasqueira showing the equipment (which is of high quality even though it is a very basic climb) and explaining how it worked, he also took great photos that we would never have been able to take alone, super sweet and attentive, and the view, which is a show in itself because it is incredible, made every trail is worth it, certainly the next time we go to Rio de Janeiro we will do more adventures with nattrip, it exceeded all our expectations. We highly recommend it!!!!
