Parrot Peak Sunrise Hike Grand Island

We did the hike during the day due to weather conditions. It's a challenging but doable hike if you are used to trail hiking and have the mentality to do it. Don't recommend doing it just for the view as that's unpredictable. For us it was abt the trail though so we didn't mind sitting at the top in the clouds. Was still a cool experience. The guide was great and told us much abt the forest.

Even though you have to get up super early it’s a 100% worth it when you’re watching the sunrise over the sea. Our guide Quintino was super nice and funny. Overall 10/10 experience!

George was an excellent guide. He showed up on time and very well prepared for the day! He had everything we needed for the trip. He was a very patient and informative guide, telling us about the animals we came across, and importantly, what to avoid! He also gave us a complimentary drone video of our group at the top. This is not something we were expecting but have shown it to our friends and family, so very glad he did this because the views are stunning! An unforgettable experience. Be warned, this trip is not to be taken lightly! I’ve seen reviews talking about doing it in sliders but it is much more demanding than that. This is a proper hike requiring a lot of effort and we definitely couldn’t have done it without George!

We had an amazing sunrise hike with George this morning! He was perfectly on time and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable from the very beginning. He provided shin protectors for the wildlife, headlamps, and walking sticks, and kept a steady, comfortable pace with plenty of water breaks along the way. George was incredibly knowledgeable and pointed out lots of wildlife we would have otherwise missed, including spiders, possums, and different birds. He also took fantastic photos of our group throughout the hike and even brought a drone to capture some incredible aerial shots. We were a group of eight girls, and George made the entire experience fun, safe, and memorable. The hike was challenging, but he made every step worth it. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Ilha Grande!

We had an absolute lovely sunrise hike! Our guide arrived with all the equipment that was necessary. Eventhough we were a little nervous about the wildlife in the forest, our guide made us feel safe and gave a lot of information about the animals that we came across. The scenic view was absolutely worth it!! All in all an amazing experience that we will never forget!

I had an amazing trekking experience with George! He’s originally from Brazil but has been living on the island for over 16 years, so he knows every corner, every plant, and every animal by heart. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna is impressive, and he’s always happy to share interesting facts along the way. George is incredibly professional yet very friendly and approachable. He makes sure everyone is comfortable and safe throughout the hike — even providing snake gaiters for extra protection. He also takes great photos during the trek and shares them afterwards at no extra cost, which is such a nice touch. He clearly loves what he does and takes his job seriously, and that passion really shows. I highly recommend George to anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable trekking experience on the island!

We did the sunrise hike with George in August 2025 after my sister recommended doing it as she did it in August 2024. We met at 1.30am and started the hike at 2.25am. The hike was difficult as it was in the dark and quite slippery because it had rained but George guided us through the jungle and we had time to catch our breathe. When we arrived at the top it was very cold (make sure you bring a change of clothes and a warm jumper if you are there in winter) but the views were absolutely breathtaking. We saw one of the most gorgeous sunrises in my life and George even had coffee to warm us up. We stayed at the viewpoint from around 5 to 6.45am and then did the trek down. George has a very fine knowledge of the jungle and local fauna and flora which was super interesting. We felt safe at all times and had a very memorable experience !

Beautiful hike! Well organised and he took care to base the trail in order that both of us could enjoy it even though we had different levels. Explaining plenty of things about the island and nature! I can only recommend when visiting ilha grande! Next time pico de papagayo! :)

Fantastic hike to the top of Pico do Papagaio, with a magical sunrise at the top. George was an awesome guide, kept us safe from snakes and spiders and managed to spot some cool wildlife on the way up, we felt very safe with him on the night hike.

George guided me and three friends on a hike up Pico de Papagaio to watch the sunrise over Ilha Grande. It was truly an unforgettable experience, starting at around 1:30am with a hike through the jungle in the middle of the night. George is extremely experienced (we were is 668th hike up the mountain I believe) and provided an excellent sense of security, surveilling the area for snakes and spiders, identifying multiple poisonous spiders along the way. He also share detailed information about the forest and the species within it throughout the hike while offering friendly and humorous conversation, giving us a far richer experience than we would have had alone. At the summit, he even gave us coffee and recorded a video of us using his drone. It was genuinely a wonderful experience and great value for money. We would all 100% recommend this experience with George!

George is the perfect guide to take you on this tour! He shares his jungle survival skills and animal facts, points out all the venomous spiders that you won’t pick out yourself and is the most friendly and thoughtful person. He will ensure that your save, give you some lower leg protection, and a walking stick. I also highly recommend doing this trip with a guide as supposed to by yourself. The path is difficult to pick out at night and the venomous undetectable spiders, scorpions, and snakes don’t help. Better be safe than sorry (there is no anti venom clinic on the island so keep that in mind). George all the way!

Definitely recommend the Sunrise tour with George. He is a friendly guide, who has a profound knowledge on diverse subjects regarding the history of the island, its ecology and is willing to share it with the group. He is a very professional guide, and includes in the tour all the necessary clean material for a safe walk throught the Atlantic forest during the night time. On top of all that he produces very good drone footage once on top.

We were nervous about this hike at first, but George and his fellow guide were both true professionals and made us feel very safe as we trekked through the jungle. The hike itself was as advertised, challenging at times but no issue if you are of reasonable fitness. We saw some stunning wildlife, such as a wandering spider, and some armed and golden orb weaving spiders (all of which were fascinating, even with my fear of spiders). At the top of Pico do Papagaio the views around the whole island were stunning and the sunrise was truly beautiful. George was kind enough to offer us some delicious coffee at the top, and took some amazing photos of us. Both of which I am very grateful for. George was a great guide, very knowledgeable and very funny. This hike is a must do if you stay in Ilha Grande! I highly recommend it, and it will be the highlight of your stay!

Such an amazing tour run by George. So organised, he gave us the leg pads (to protect against venomous animals), a hiking stick and a head torch. He was so knowledgeable about the surrounding environment and wanted to make it the best experience possible for everyone in the group. Without a doubt, one of the best experiences I've had on Big Island. For those who enjoy trekking and are willing to make the effort of climbing the hill, it will surely take one of the best memories of the island. The meeting with the guide, George, was on time and place combined. He gave us information about how the route would look and provided us with sticks to help us climb. The rise was intense and quite vertical, which required a lot of effort and a lot of water consumption in my case. (Take enough) Getting to the top and seeing the dawn and the forest around is indescribable. A beautiful experience for everyone who has good physical conditioning and tough knees. Very good, the guide is very present, knowledgeable about the area and animals. It is safe to ascend the peak of the parrot with him. The trail is very demanding, it is 982 meters, but if you can, do it. It is worth it

Thank you, George! We were a family of 6, all came with a will, discover the phone populating the beautiful island of Ilha Grande as well as a beautiful sunrise. Georges offers the supervision of several hikes, we opted for the one leading to the Pico de Papagaio. Beware, the more seasoned will follow Georges in the mountains, for the less experienced, it may be complicated. However Georges, will guide you through this steep jungle with the best possible advice. The effort is worth it and we all came home with memories for life.

I climbed the Parrot Peak to see the sun rise. George was very accurate in all our communication before our ascent. I realized your concern for the safety of everyone in the group, first with a questionnaire and throughout the track. He is not concerned with billing, but rather providing a fantastic experience, but with great security. During the trail, I still had the opportunity to learn details that make all the difference when we are climbing or descending a trail. I recommend George's guidance! Obs: Only do this trekking if you are really well conditioned physically, I thought I was half late for our group, but seeing the sun rise from the peak was a sensational experience.

A challenging but very rewarding hike through the jungle of Ilha Grande in the dark leads to one of the best sunrises. Pico do Papagaio offers incredible views of the sea and the island. George is a very sympathetic guide who is always concerned about everyone's safety and that everyone is fine. Highly recommended!!!

What a wonderful experience! I hiked the Pico do Papagaio at night for sunrise with George and a small group. Although hiking is difficult, George is very patient and takes the time to explain what we see. He is attentive to fauna and flora which allowed us to see many things! Thanks a lot. I did the Pico del Papagayo trail with George and it was amazing. As it was a night trail, all care is necessary. George is very experienced, guides you clearly, keeps you calm and shows you the best of the trail along the way. The trail is heavy, but it's sensational to see the sun rise from there, a huge sense of well-being. Super recommend George, not to mention that he makes videos with drone rsrs
