Half Day Hiking To The Top Of Sugarloaf Mountain

Did the Via Ferrata route on Sugarloaf with guide Fernando. If you try this route, strongly recommend going with a good guide as there are some tricky sections and I was happy to be the second on Fernando’s solid lead. Overall experience was great and the views were amazing.

The whole day was spectacular. Thomas spoke perfect English and was an A+ guide, from his knowledge of the mountain, the region and his ability to focus his attention on all of us individually and as a group

Was my first time outdoor climbing and had a really great time. The instructor was incredibly friendly and reassuring.

Rio Mountain sports helped by organizing the best surprise ever for my boyfriend. He has a super great moment climbing the Sugarloaf (Coringa road). Fernando was awesome, very professional but also kind and reassuring. His English was perfect et he took amazing photos during the climb ! A big thank to all the team ☺️

Climbing Pao de Acucar over the ocean was amazing. Fernando’s guidance and company made the experience that much more memorable. He did a great job making sure we stayed safe while also educating on the history, terrain, wildlife and more of Brazil. My only feedback (not for Fernando) is I wish Rio Mountain Sports advertised whether the route was going to be a slab vs overhang, etc. Nevertheless, it was a once in a lifetime experience and I can’t thank the company and Fernando enough!

One day we climbed Sugarloaf with guide Thomas and other day Pedra da Gavea with guide Didi. We couldn't have done them without our very supportive guides!!!Everything was perfectly organized and safe at all times!!!! As a family, we decided to climb Sugarloaf mountain. We are in reasonable shape with teenage kids but not exceptional. This is an incredible climb, fun, exciting, exhausting and breathtaking. We have never climbed like this before up steep rocks for many hours. Our guide Thomas was among the best we have ever had in all our travels. He made sure we got past every difficult part safely and still smiling. He is positive thinking and so encouraging. Without him, we would never have made it to the top of this four hour climb ending in pure satisfaction and incredible sunset views. The kids absolutely loved it and were never bored or complained because it was such a technical climb and the guide was so good and the view so beautiful Thank you Rio mountain sports for encouraging us to do it. We made it!

Very supportive guide. Safety was first. Adjusted pace to the group. Made a group with 2 parents and 3 kids feel at ease. Be prepared for a strenuous climb, with sufficient breaks.

We had a fantastic time with Reginald as our guide. He was an experienced climber and knew the way like the palm of his hand. Despite having no climbing experience and there being the steepest rock scrambles we'd ever faced, we felt safe due to Regis's helpfulness and communication. DO pick this tour if you're a reasonably fit hiker wanting a thrilling adventure and little foray into outdoor climbing. Do NOT pick this if you are not fit or have an injured limb as you will need all four!

Climbing the ocean face of Sugar Loaf was one of the coolest things I did in Rio. RMS was very professional and responsive on Whatsapp. My English speaking guide (Adilio) was a local experienced climber who was fun, patient and ensured I was safe the whole time. Stunning views and an amazing way to experience this Rio landmark! Highly recommended.

Had a great time climbing sugarloaf!!! My guide was great. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. My climbing fitness isn't as good currently after a break while travelling and the guide was patient and understanding.

I had an amazing time climbing the Italians mas Segundo route up to Sugar Loaf, I felt really supported and safe, Igor is a great guide and they are really easy with lending equipment if you don't have everything yourself.

Rio Mountain Sports was very communicative and helpful. I don't like their cancellation policy of 7 days in advance but they were flexible in adjusting when we booked the wrong date. Our guide Didi was encouraging and informative the whole way and made what would have been an impossible hike/climb on our own much easier. We had a good time and would recommend. Great views of the ocean and landscape that you can't find simply by taking the cable car up.

Incredible experience. Our guide (Reginaldo) was stellar, little insights into the local history and fauna were fthe cherry on top, and his experience was clea, showing and helping us really well. The route itself was fantastic too, we rocked up perhaps underestimating it a little, more challenging than a standard forest hike, and a little technical - don't underestimate the value of a good pair of shoes. Views on the way up are worth every penny, by far the most memorable experience we've had on Rio.

Had a fantastic time climbing multi-pitch outdoors at Sugarloaf with Thomas as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and cared about our safety. He also took such great photos and videos as a bonus! My partner is not as experienced in climbing but with Thomas's help, he was able to complete the climb as well and had so much fun. Highly recommended!

Sport climb Pao de Acucar- sugarloaf mountain with guia Didi. Great time. Didi was great and professional. World class guide. Tough 4 hours (I work in an office- haha). Worth the money. The view was worth every bit of it. 👍🏼👍🏼

Jiji was a brilliant guide who made this experience super enjoyable and interesting! I rock climbed the Sugarloaf mountain Coringa route with Fernando and it was AMAZING. The views were fantastic and the climb was challenging and fun. Fernando made the experience 10/10. He was very knowledgeable and coached me along the way. Would definitely recommend him.

Climbing to the top of Sugarloaf is one of those experiences that I’ll never forget and am so happy I did it! I would personally consider it more of a “climb” than a “hike” as I found it to be more intense than expected, but also more rewarding!!!! Getting to the top made me feel more alive than few other things have in the world! My guide Eddie (?) was so awesome because he’s very passionate about climbing, safety, spoke excellent English, is fun, encouraging and all you could ever want to do this with. Nina in the office also did a great job to ensure scheduling and coordination was smooth. Rio Mountain Sports is a great operation and I highly recommend them. Next trip to Rio I’ll definitely be looking them up for some more activities. I’d love to buy a souvenir shirt and wish they offered them.

A remarkable and fascinating adventure. Not as easy as thought, but the guide Didi made me feel reassured it is possible and all goes well. He is capable and friendly. The view of Rio from here is amazing and well worth seen.

Climbing instructor Gabriel was right on time for ‘dos Italianos’ on Sugarloaf mountain. He made a trustworthy impression right away. He is a good and safe climber and a very sociable person. He let me lead a number of pitches. This made me feel like I was climbing with my own climbing partner and doing the climb together. I will absolutely come back to Rio Mountain Sports more often.

Sugarloaf climbing - Via Dos Italianos com Secundo It started with the right foot when they were able to find someone available with a very short notice. My guide, Victor, it's an awesome guy. Safe, patient and fun. I never felt rushed and was able to take as many pictures as I wanted. He explained a lot of things about Rio as we went up the route and even gave me great food recommendations.

This was one of my favourite days in Rio! The views on the way up keep getting better and better! Lucas was an excellent guide who was incredibly helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife as well as the history or Rio - I learnt so much whilst climbing!

I highly recommend using this company for a guided climb in Rio. My guide Ivanir was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and he also spoke great English. This was very helpful as I speak little to no Portuguese. I was a little nervous to climb with someone I’d never climbed with and in a country I had never climbed in previously. I didn’t have much time to do research about climbing in the area because it was more of a family trip so I was very much relying on the guiding company to be on top of their game. I showed up with little more than a harness and shoes, they provided me with all other gear. (You need to notify them of the gear you have prior to make sure that bring your missing pieces). Overall I can’t say a bad thing about the experience. I highly recommend this company and Ivanir!

My guide, Ivan - Incredible guy - so passionate, friendly and thorough person that made each ascending m a piece of cake. He was clear in all of his instructions and patient with my slow start. After that, it got easier and easier, until i felt so comfortable that we summited the top in exactly 3 hrs. Great activity in Rio! Ivanir is an amazing guy and instructor, who made me feel comfortable and safe during my climb to the top of Sugarloaf. An experience never to forget. Contact with Rio Mountain Sports manager Nina was always very easy, fast and flexible, great company to book your climb with!

First off RMS was quick and friendly in responding to my emails. Raoni was an excellent guide for the day and shared a ton of info about local climbing. This was my first multi pitch so the 5.8 routs were perfect. Mostly technical feet. Raoni was patient and took the time to show me the set ups. All in all, it was a great first multi pitch.

We did the coringa with Wayler and had a great time. It was challenging enough and the view was amazing. Wayler was a great guide and made the experience wrote enjoyable. Totally recommended!

Ivanir was an exceptionally professional guide, helping us to the top and giving enough time to take in the scenes and also work harder routes. The team's professionalism in all aspects of the excursion is excellent - from booking the trip, communication leading up to the climb to assistance and motivation during the climb. Ivanir made us feel safe at all times and has wonderful knowledge of Rio's sites and history which he shared along the way. It's the best way to get to the top of Sugarloaf if you want an adrenaline rush and you are in very good hands.

Had an awesome hike/climb with Ivanir on the hottest day in Rio while I was there. Ivanir was very eager to tell about the different types of rock surfaces on the way up and also helped me conquer the different climb sections without to much difficulty. An added bonus is that every climber of Sugarloaf can ride the cable car down to the Morro do Urca station for free which we did

All what you expect from a hike and more. For the whole hike and the climb we felt safe and in good hands - challenging, but absolutely doable for beginners. The view is amazing from several viewing points or wherever you wanna stop. A hike through nature on one of the most iconic symbols of Rio. The highlight of the tour was our tour guide, Ivanir, who is not only leading you nicely through the trail, but who is also very friendly, enthusiastic and talkative with some interesting stories about the surrounding, nature and climbing. I had a great time learning to climb multipitch with Ivanir. I was a little slow remembering all the knots and steps involved because my trip coincided with New Years Eve but Ivanir was incredibly patient with me. I finished the course feeling very confident about doing more multipitch climbs back home. Ivanir is also full of tips of and tricks to do things safer and more efficiently. We will definitely climb together again next time I’m back in Rio.

I booked to climb Sugarloaf Mountain with Ivanir on new years day 2020 and couldn't have had more fun if I had tried. I was 45 minutes late arriving at the meeting point (it was new years day + some Uber issues), but Ivanir was waiting patiently and was more than forgiving. I have very little climbing experience (bouldering, twice), and was a little concerned that I may had bitten off more than I could chew, but Ivanir kept me safe, taught me well and showed me a side of Sugarloaf that everyone should see. The climbing equipment was in an excellent condition and Ivanir was a fantastic friend to spend the day with. What an experience - I will never forget it! Climbed the beautiful line italianos com secundo on sugarloaf mountain today with climbing guide Ivanir. He explained everything very clearly, was professional and just a great person to spend a day on the rocks with. We alternated lead climbing without problems, all the gear was provided and in excellent condition. You can contact the company via WhatsApp with any questions/worries about he climb and will get an answer almost always within 10mn. It doesn’t matter if you’re an advanced climber or a beginner, check them out and go hug some rocks today. You won’t be disappointed !

Me and my girlfriend did the sugerloaf hike and it was incredible. It was a tough hike but worth every drop of sweat. Ivanir was our guide and he helped us every step of the way. Hey shared some amazing stories and really let us go up on our own pace. There were plenty of breaks, viewpoints and opportunities to take pictures. Ivanir also made a lot of pictures for us and shared them afterwards. The moment you make it to the top it is the perfect moment to enjoy an icecream and some well deserved refreshments. The climbing part was adventurous and really adds to the experience. It is doable even if you are not the most sporty of people. If you are looking for some adventure during your stay in Rio de Janeiro this is a must!

I just finished a wonderful hike up sugarloaf mountain with Ivanir! I was travelling solo and Ivanir took great care of me, I felt safe all along and apparently we finished in very good time! I could tell Ivanir figured out my physical abilities early and let me get on with it, but knew when I'd need a bit of extra help and guidance. I will say it's not an easy climb! I consider myself quite fit and even I towards the end (in the sun because I needed to hike in the morning rather than shady afternoon) found myself quite exhausted. The only possible negative for some I'd say is the guide wasn't that knowledgeable about flora and fauna, but that's not a priority for me so I enjoyed it perfectly. He's a great photographer too!!

I live in Miami, Fl and there isn't so much as a hill here - just indoor climbing. Pao de Azucar (Sugarloaf Mountain) climb was AWESOME, the views up there were amazing and it was a little challenging for someone who doesn't do it all the time but not hard. IVANIR WAS GREAT! He takes pride in taking great photos that you can look back on and will last a lifetime. I also did Babalonia and had cool view of Cristo as you can probably see, they are so professional and great people. Online booking was easy and Ivanir was a great guide. This was one of the funnest things I did in Rio, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
