Itinerary
Visit to Dom Pedro II's house and Imperial Museum. Walking through the halls of the Palace of the Imperial Museum (formerly the imperial family's refuge during the summer months) is like traveling inside a history book. One of the thrones used by Dom Pedro II is in the State Room. The feeling is that the emperor can enter there at any time.
It was the summer residence of Alberto Santos Dumont, Father of Aviation, being known as “A Encantada”. The museum has a collection of objects, books, letters and furniture, as well as the shower and the staircase, with steps in the shape of a racket, which can only be accessed starting on the right foot. At the 14 bis Cultural Center, attached to the Casa, you can watch a short film about Santos Dumont. The space has accessibility and tactile models for visitors with special needs.
It was opened in 1884 to house exhibitions of flowers, birds and agricultural products. Its precast structure, in cast iron, was commissioned from a foundry in France by Count D`Eu, being assembled in Petrópolis by engineer Eduardo Bonjean. Today it hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
French neo-Gothic style construction. Inside, the Mausoleum where the remains of the Imperial Family stand (Dom Pedro II, Dona Teresa Cristina, Princess Isabel and Conde D`Eu, his firstborn D. Pedro de Alcântara and his wife D. Elisabeth) can also be highlighted. be seen sculptures by Jean Magrou, Bertozzi, stained glass and paintings by Carlos Oswald. The Gothic altar contains relics of Saint Magno, Santa Aurélia and Santa Tecla, brought from Rome by Cardinal D. Sebastião Leme. The main doors weigh 2,400 kg each. What a dreamy day trip this was! The tour guide, Julio, was very informative --and with good humor made explanations in three languages. The mountain town itself is storybook level and it was an added delight to visit during Christmas time. I highly recommend booking this trip! Admission fees and lunch is covered in the price of the trip which is an added convenience. Attached, just one photo of the exterior of the imperial palace leading up to the entrance.
Absolutely amazing place. Beautiful experience and cool history of Brazil before they were a Republic. Our tour guide Júlio was wonderful, knowledgeable and fun. We truly enjoyed the day with all the sites, history and chocolate! A must do for sure.
It was a good trip. Too bad we cant really roaming around the palace. The brewery trip was great. Guillo is an excellent guide and very well informed about the destination. Overall it was a good trip
The guide Julio was fantastic. We visited quite a few locations and had lots of opportunity to see the local sights. The traffic getting back to our hotels was pretty bad so make sure you don’t have any plans to rush back for!
Our guide translated in 3 different languages! He explained the history of the emperor’s family and defining events that shaped Brazil’s political history. We enjoyed the crystal palace and the porcelain exhibition. The day was well spent.
The tour itself is very informative and you get a good overview over petropolis. The stops except the imperial palace are sometimes too short to really take in the at atmosphere, but it is understandable with the short time available. Our guide Celia was really knowledgable! The group size was good, the minibus was only 2/3 full, so you could spread out a bit. Unfortunately we were the first to enter and the last to exit the tour, which meant that we got to pick up /drop off all passengers in the morning/afternoon…. Lost time for us…. But at least we had first choice in seats What we did not like: The stop at the chocolate factory: felt a bit like those paid stops at carpet factories in Tunisia/Turkey. I did not feel the need to buy chocolate with 34 degrees temperature… The lunch was not great, it was a mediocre buffet. A quick stop at a sanduicheria would have been better. Value for money is good overall, we enjoyed the day!
The tour started badly. Was supposed to be picked up at 8AM but ended up being picked up at 9:30AM due to a wreck that stopped the van from picking us up thr correct time. This wasn't the tours fault. The tour decided to consolidate two tours into one. We went from a van to a bus. The appropriate tour size would be a van. A bus was too large for a tour. We arrived in Petropolis ay 12:30 and everything from their felt rushed. Petropolis is a beautiful town. Nice break from Rio. We didn't get back until 9:45PM after dropping everyone off. I would go to Petropolis if it was a van size tour group. I would not go if it was a bus size tour group. Extremely long tiring day.
We really enjoyed the trip! As opposed to a lot of other touristic tours where it's a huge bus with as many people as possible are crammed in and you hurry from place to place, this was in a comfortable van with a small group, giving you the opportunity for a very chill and personal experience. Our guide Julio was tasked with heading this tour TRILINGUALLY and he was amazing at it, really can't recommend it enough.
It was a nice experience and i enjoyed the trip and the Food was nice. I enjoyed it with my friends . Will recommend to others.
This tour is not worth it the 70 dollars for sure. Petropolis is really nice, but we could not spend a lot of time in the city. We arrived extremely late at the destination (around 12) and we spent almost 1 hour for the lunch right after. We visited the imperial museum, the old casino, the crystal palace (from outside cause it was closed, and this should be mentioned when booking the tour) and the cathedral. The visit at the chocolate place is definitely a waste of time and we stayed there 1 hour. We left at 6:30pm circa. The guide was nice and she did her best, but the time organization was just horrible.
This is a full day trip, you will be going into higer elevations. Bring fizzy water as you will be taking a winding road and may feel nausea. Mama Chris is the perfect host for this trip, she is full of life and entertaining! I would certainly take a night club tour if she hosts it! Emerson, is a skilled driver on this long tour with difficult roads. I would recommend that visitors bring a copy of their photo ids and a print out of the specifics they paid for on this tour as they may be other visitors with different stops than yours on this tour. Bring water and snacks. Visitors should know that the lunch buffet only included 2 pieces of 'protien'. Additional protiens, some desserts and drinks you pay for seperately. A few of us wanted to purchase souvenirs from the Petropolis Palace home, but no one knew where it was and if it was open. The Crystal Palace, the small museum at the end of the tour and plane inventors house entrance to these places were not included. If the tour organizers want to list them as places of interest you visit on the tour, stopping visitors outside a closed fence to view a construction site is not considered a tour. Before leaving Petropolis City the tour literature indicates you visit a cholocate factory. It should be listed as a chocolate dessert cafe where you can enjoy everything chocolate. Some free samples would be recommended. Everyone visiting the chocolate shop should try the desserts and the best hot chocolate (ever) which is like a yummy pudding!
Ok, first of all, we had a phenomenal tour guide (Chris) and a very good bus driver. Petropolis is a beautiful city that is definitely worth a visit and we enjoyed spending the day there. The only cons of the trip I would say is that the Crystal Palace was closed for renovations when we visited, and also the limitations in the lunch (where you are only allowed 2 proteins) should have been communicated clearly.
Went to Petropolis and seen a few historical sites and the guide was informative about the history of the town and its connection to Brazils early days. Beer tasting was cool, the brewery was a fun part of the tour.
A sensational 1 day tour. It’s worth it because we passed through the main sights without letting anything pass. The guided visit to the museum with the guide Rafael is excellent as he explains many details that we do not see alone. Very good lunch. We went on a cold day that did not interfere with the tour because most attractions are closed. A true lesson of history of Brazil. We went with 2 kids from 5 and 8 years old and super recommend because they liked a lot, did not get tired, liked all the stops.
We loved the tour, we had a super good people guide - His Julio, who knows a lot about the place, in fact is a round in time. Every place we visited, including the place we had lunch, all met our expectations.
One of the most beautiful tours in the region, main point, the visit to the Imperial Museum, with the richness of details of the story told by the guide, the tour becomes magical. I highly recommend!!!!
Historic city, places worth visiting at least once. Varied class, Guide and driver partners of passengers.
Very good tour, we knew several sights in Petrópolis and the Guide was sensational telling stories, interacting with the group with right to a wonderful lunch!!! I recommend the walk
It was excellent! Incredibly wonderful landscapes and historical places.🤩👌We recorded everything📸...Very fun, friendly, competent and very well-informed guide. Wonderful lunch... anyway, it was worth the trip👍💖
Everything was wonderful. I would definitely go back again, excellent lunch. The guide Júlio was super friendly. Everything was spectacular.
Everything was great...I would recommend it to my friends and family. The guides and drivers were friendly and knew everything.
Incredible experience and very knowledgeable, I loved every detail… the guide was exceptional and very polite. I definitely want to go back ❤️
It was a large group of people who spoke Portuguese, we were 4 people who spoke Spanish and only 1 who spoke English. However, the entire tour was in Portuguese and English, the guide only spoke Spanish when we were in front of him, which was not always possible because it was a very large group. At the end of the tour he left some of them in their hotels (because that is what the reservation says) and he approached the rest of the people to explain how to get to their hotels, however he did not say anything to us considering we are foreigners and naturally we did not know what area, I had to ask him for directions and he told me to come down right then and there (because we were already leaving the hotel).
It was an incredible day of learning in Petrópolis, our guide, Mr Júlio, was an attraction in itself, very friendly and demonstrated great knowledge. Very well structured. Approved
NICE WALK. A GUIDE WITH A LOT OF HISTORY KNOWLEDGE, NICE. IT'S WORTH A VISIT.
Very nice tour in a historic city that tells a lot of the history of Brazil and guided by Rafael, a very fun guy and with great knowledge of the history of the city.
Excellent. And Julio the best👏👏 Very complete and very good story I highly recommend this tour Secure Service and Transportation
The Guide Service, very good! He was perfectly understood in Spanish (very rare in Brazil). You could tell he knew and loved the history of the city. He took many minutes to explain every detail of the museum and the buildings of the city. I really enjoyed the tour. It was worth the investment.
Overall, the tour was interesting. But as there are many places/hotels to pick up the people we stayed more than 2 hours riding the bus until starting the route to leave the city. They scheduled 8:15h and the route only started at 10:30h. We arrived at Petropolis about 12:00. The suggestion is that you define few locations/hotels and people move around. The lunch left a lot to be desired. A very simple self service, with very few meat/fish options, limited to 2 pieces (small), a tight place. Finally, I believe that due to the delay to leave Rio, we did not pass by Santos Dumont's house. The ticket was not included, but the itinerary was planned and anyone who wanted would buy and visit.
Very good tour, I met the most visited points of Rio, for those who come to Rio super recommend because they are attentive and trustworthy.
I recommend this tour of Petrópolis with the RPT. Our family was very happy, and our guide “MamaCris” was very cheerful and friendly.
Very interesting to know the facts of our history, the summer place of the imperial family, the museum, the car pavilion, and all this with the RPT gets much better.
A great experience, super comfortable bus, super friendly guide, through the history, told several passes! Very good! Petrópolis and beautiful and very worth a visit!
I am an architect And I love art history To know Petrópolis, was to dive in the 19th century Even more with our guide Mami Chris... That at the exit of the RJ .. we were in turn as Baronesses and Baronesses .... Don't stop going!!! Everything perfect...from beginning to end... Congratulations.
I fell in love with this city. Rio de Janeiro! The weather didn't help much in the week I was in Rio but it was an amazing experience! Rio Passeios e Trilhas, is the agency I contracted for the tour of Petropolis. I recommend it, we visited the imperial city, and I must say that the imperial museum is something fantastic! thank you!
For those who love beer like me the visit to the ancient Cervejaria Bohemia was wonderful! Ahahah THE Maristela guide was very kind to us! Thanks for everything! See you soon and thank you all!
I was in Rio de Janeiro in November. The city is fantastic. Through a friend I met the Rio Passeios and Trilhas. I booked with them the tour of Petropolis the imperial city. The imperial museum is magnificent! Thank you for your experience!
Organized trip in every detail, suggestive destination with a historical importance that everyone should know, highly recommended for everyone and for all ages thanks to the guide Marystella who was very friendly and professional with everyone but especially with me and my family.
I made the tour of Petrópolis with Rio Paseos and Trails and it was wonderful, truly impeccable. Perfect organization, beautiful places, nothing more to ask for.
Great trip!!! Enterprise complied with all proposed activities!!! Very prepared and attentive guide!
The guide Cris has a great service and knowledge about the cities and the place very beautiful and very nice
Tour was wonderful! Sorry the day we went, there was a truck that had crashed and the traffic to Petrópolis was slower! But the guides are very attentive and of a lot of knowledge about the city and its entire history!!!
