This is a great day excursion! Visited many places. Loved imperial museum and learned alot of history! Our guide Plinio was extremely helpful, enthusiastic, informative! We had our mother's in their late 70s with us and Plinio was great to accomodate their needs with mobility issues. Highly recommend this tour. All ages would have great time!

This was a great tour! The communication from the operators was good and our guide, Plinio, was excellent. Something to note is that the Crystal Palace is more like a large greenhouse, not an actual palace where people lived. This trip does not include a guided tour of the Imperial Palace, which I would have liked. However, I enjoyed the free time that let me visit a ceramics museum. Plinio was very helpful and impressive with his mastery of English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Most of the stops were good, some were not for me personally. Guide was very good. Lunch was delicious.
Petropolis is a lovely city and the trip from Rio is quite enjoyable. The lush forests and mountains make the journey very pleasant. There is much to see and do in Petropolis. The city itself is quite picturesque with lagoons, mountains and well maintained gardens. The lunch was amazing. However, the guide could not speak English, making communication rather challenging. The tour organizers should make sure that the guide can speak the language needed for the tour participants.
The worst day trip I've ever taken. Pick-up took an hour and a half, and I wasn't even the first person on the bus. We spent a full half an hour at a roadside rest stop that was meant to be a bathroom break, then an hour at a shopping mall. We drove past Quitandinha Palace at a distance and didn't even stop for photos. We waited for an hour to spend 15 minutes inside the Imperial Museum. The Cathedral was an after-thought - we drove past it at a distance several times during the day, but didn't stop until after dark, at which time there was a wedding happening so we couldn't actually go in and see the Cathedral. Because we spent over an hour at a random mall, Crystal Palace was already closed by the time we arrived, so we couldn't go in and see that either. We drove past the Brewery, but stopping wasn't even mentioned as an option Absolute disaster of a tour, and I do not recommend it. 13 hours of wasted time and doing nothing. I'll be asking for my money back.
This was worst organized tour I have ever been on and I have been on many organized group tours. Started off with having to take 2 and 1/2 hours to even leave Rio as we repeatedly went down the same streets picking up people. By the time we got to Petropolis, we ate and zipped through two of the destinations. The three other destinations were all closed and the bus just drove by them, including the Brewery and the Crystal Palace. We then proceeded to return to Rio, continuing to the asinine drop-off method of repeating the same streets over and over trying to drop people off. Our group eventually just got off nowhere near our final destination and chose to Uber back to where we actually did get picked up. The whole tour was supposed to be 8 to 10 hours and it was 14 hours by the time we got back. We missed dinner reservations we had already looked for that evening and missed out on the things that we actually wanted to see in Petropolis. Do not book this tour.
This was a wonderful day trip introducing this charming part of Rio to my partner. The guide was knowledgeable and helpful, the tour just right for the group members. Thank you
Very enjoyable trip-beautiful buildings and area. The pImperial palace was wonderful. Both driver and guide were great Clinton and Clinton!
I was in lobby when the guy came and called my name. He then called four other people. When we started to leave, he told me that I would be with a different guide and did not let me get on the bus. The other four people got on the bus and left. I waited about 40 minutes and called the tour operator. He told me that the tour had been canceled. That is not true because I saw everybody leave without me. I believe they canceled me because I was a solo traveler. Now I have to fight to get my money back. If they had canceled me, I would have received a refund, but they are not giving me a refund as of today.
The tour company I was travelling with also offered a day trip to Petropolis without lunch and at a higher cost. More importantly, there were no reviews to bank on. Therefore, I opted for this trip. The group was of 20 odd people essentially Spanish speaking with just a few of us relying on the English guide, resultantly got very personal attention. The buffet lunch was excellent with unlimited helpings. All I all, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. It was a day well spent. Highly recommended!
Well organised, guide spoke 3 languages and was always conscious to ensure all were included, well informed on the history and culture of the area, very reasonably priced, highly recommend
This was something off the beaten path. Almost a 2 hour drive to Petropolis. Very good tour if you have the time but not an essential tour but very nice!
Reading the reviews with mama chris, we expected a nice tour. Well, no mama chris and no good tour. Alex is not fluent in English. Spanish, Portuguese as well as English he tried to cover. First of all we spent over an hour picking up individuals at hotels-and stopping for Alex to get a coffee. The bus was hot, the bathroom stop was at a place with no running water. At the museum, i did not feel comfortable leaving my purse in the bus. Alex told me flippantly that i couldn’t take it and that i didn’t have to go in if i didn’t want to. I refused to leave my purse (honestly the whole tour seemed sketch). He then told me i could take my purse and leave it in a locker there. Duh-anyone who has traveled knows museums have lockers. So then to lunch. We were all to meet Alex in front-and he was at least 10 minutes late. We took the bus to the next stop and then decided to Uber back to Rio. Peterpolis seemed like a nice place to visit. Alex had no script he followed and we googled information as he spent most of the time not speaking English-and not understandable English even when he was speaking English. Maybe it was an off day for them but i would definitely not risk taking this company’s tour.
Beautiful trip and greatly organized itinerary - informative guide and great driver. Full day of interesting places, with lots of flexible time to wonder around, not restricted by group. Just the right amount of information provided by the guide, in English and Spanish and sufficient time to explore alone as well. Would strongly recommend this trip.
The trip is not well planned. Historical sites are visited very briefly, but time is allocated for clothing shopping and visiting a chocolate cafe after a long lunch (1h).
Tour did not meet my expectations, when I booked the tour pickup time was 8:00 am, we were picked up 9:47 am, we left Rio after 10:30 am. There were 29 people in the group which was too large. The Guide spent more time speaking in Portuguese and in Spanish by the time she spoke English we missed most of the information. I would not recommend to English Speaking tourists. We had to cut the trip short due to rain. For the price we paid it was ok. I really wanted to see Petropolis but missed out on this opportunity. I felt guide was not properly organised and company should have kept the group size smaller. As a tourist our time is precious that is way we book tours to see more place in organised manner. But when tour operator is picking you up late, cutting the tour short due to rain and safety reasons, as tourists my day got wasted.
We booked this tour through Viator and the Pepe Rio tour company confirmed our pickup time and hotel location the night before. But we were left waiting for an hour on the kerbside on the tour morning as we messaged them politely via the Viator app for an hour without response. They never came, responded, or offered an explanation. This may be a systemic issue rather than a one-off mistake: unlike almost all other tours we have done, there is no provided WhatsApp number or contact info for immediate help. We got a helpful prompt refund from Viator customer service, who apparently have a direct contact, but we strongly suggest using another local company, or just calling an Uber to Petrópolis, as we were forced to do. $28 or so each way. from Copacabana .
It was such a joy! Petrópolis is a beautiful town, very different from Rio de Janeiro. Places we visited were very interesting to see. Lunch also was good. Our lady guide was very nice and funny person. She also speaks very good English, I felt very comfortable during this tour. Thank you again!
A really great experience and a really great value. Extremely well organized and informative. Tour guide was professional and friendly. She spoke English Spanish and Portuguese. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to visit Petropolis
Great tour experience with Kao, Recommended! Is a different side of Rio de Janeiro with the opportunity to learn some history an enjoy the beautiful side scenes.
Alex the guide barely speaks English. He said he learned English during pandemic time. He explains in one sentence, whereas in Portuguese he explains 15 minutes. We are the only English speaking family in the bus. Lunch was not good. Only the bus ride to Petropolis was scenic and enjoyable. There is a lot of history but we could not understand the language.
Awesome service! Christine was amazing and excellent ! Very informative and helpful. 10/10 experience. I loved experiencing petropolis with mama Chris :)
Terrible experience. I made a reservation for Petrópolis with a meeting point scheduled at 8:25 a.m. We waited for more than 3 hours and didn’t receive a single call or message informing us what happened. Terrible company, terrible commitment to customers.
Never went on the tour. After confirming the pick up time and place, the operators cancelled the tour later that same day, saying that a festival in town would interfere with the tour. They just realized the festival was taking place? Had to get Viatur involved to secure my refund, as the operator was not responding to messages. The last minute cancelation was very disruptive to my travel plans.
The trip was awesome! Our tour guide "Mama Cris" was so knowledgeable and helpful. She made the trip fun and interesting for all of us. Obrigado!
Mammy Criss is the good kind of crazy! She's fun and entertaining, jumps between three languages and carries a bit group of people like an expert (she's been doing this for 10 years). Keep in mind the tour moves a big group of people and you move fast between places.
The tour was awesome. Our Brazilian Mama Chris was a fantastic tour guide. She is funny, very knowledgeable and friendly. She made the trip to Petropolis more fun and entertaining. I highly recommend this tour!
The stops were great! The tour guide was very nice and entertaining. Would recommend taking. We had a fantastic time. The sites we saw were beautiful.
Our tour guide kept us entertained all through the tour. Traffic didn’t let us complete all planned stops . Petropolis is such a pretty place
Be prepared for a long pickup process...not a complaint, just a fact to accommodate everyone's hotel pickup. The ride is then 1 1/2 hours. There is a break on the highway. When you get to Petropolis, there is a quick stop for photos at Quitandina Palace, so no entry fee, next we went to the Santos Dumas Museum, which is worth the very small entry fee. And then cross the street for a quick break at Katz's Chocolate store. Next was a visit inside the cathedral, and free buffet lunch nearby. The highlight of the day was the Imperial Palace, where we spent an hour. The visit to Crystal Palace was for a quick photo as it has nothing inside. Finally, the group either went to the brewery or to shop on Rue Teresa. Too tired to shop, we had coffee and strudel across the street from the meeting point at a Hungarian café. Only a few went to the brewery. We left Petrpolis at 6:30 and arrived back at our hotel at 8pm. The guide amazingly switched between English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and was very humorous and animated. She kept us on time and watched over us as our "Brazilian Mother" for the day.
Great experience. Had a lot of fun exploring Petrópolis. Would recommend. Visited museums, explored the shops and went to a chocolate cafe.
Amazing day trip to Petropolis, comfortable van, small group, great sites, but the best part was our tour guide Mami Cris!!! OMG!!! Talk about a bright soul!!! Funny! Full of information! Honestly the trip was great but I will pay for just lunch with her!!!! She switch from English to Spanish to Portuguese without trouble! Pace was good, food was great. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Beutiful city , Good trip Mama Great is my guide. She is good guide, helpful and kind. Great lunch buffet, don't miss. Van is convenient
Am amazing tour. Pick up was on time, and light traffic to Petrópolis. “Mama Crazy” our tour guide, was fun, light hearted, and knew lots of information. For a cheap price, much was included, and even the extras weren’t expensive.
We did a full day excursion to Petrópolis with Mana Chris. She was wonderful and we had a great time. I would highly recommend it!
Mama Chris is the best. She taught us some history & kept us entertained. She knows what she is talking about and communicates well in English and Spanish.
I enjoyed my day exploring Petropolis. Our guide. Cris "Mama Cris" was hilarious in describing Brazilian history and really added to the experience. It was obvious she really cares that you enjoy your tour. I would recommend this company.
Wonderful tour. Our tour guide was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Rio.
This is a very interesting tour to many locations in Petropolis, including the optional brewery tour which we took. Our guide spoke in Portuguese, Spanish and English but the English version always seems shorter. Time keeping was an issue. Times we stayed at each location were changed without all members of the group being aware. At the end everybody was present but we hung around for another 30 minutes for no apparent reason. This made it a very long day.
Interesting to hear the imperial history. The bus looked new, but literally had no shocks. Very rough ride. Tiese was our guide and did a good job of sharing all information in three languages and keeping track of all of us. For us we had just been on a tour of Chile, Argentina and Brazil so this was a bit of a leapt down after all the magnificent things we had already seen. We were also at the end of a three week trip so we’re out of gas.😊
They never showed up! We waited at the pickup point from 8 AM to 9:30 AM and then called the tour company and we were told the trip was cancelled! I suspect that not enough people signed up that day so they simply cancelled without telling us!! So don't waste your time and money and avoid this outfit! It's a great way to lose a day of your vacation!
The tour was amazing and worth not only the time but also the money. Our tour guide, Aline Gomes, and driver, Silvio, were wonderful, and Aline was great at explaining the history of Petrópolis and the places we visited. The tour is also very well organised with plenty of information available and the team is very responsive and helpful - they have the tour available in English, Portuguese and Spanish. I would definitely use the company again in the future for any tours in Rio de Janeiro. Thank you Aline!!
This was a nice, complete tour of Petropolis. Very enjoyable day with Chris. Saw everything that was listed on the itinerary and had enough time to explore a bit on our own. Lunch was a buffet with good selections. The only downside was that we were the first pickup, so it was almost 2 hours by the time we got everyone on board and departed Rio. Long day (12 hours) for the driver, guide and us, but a good experience.
Very well a day trip from Copacabana to Petropols. The trip correspondent with the description and we have sufficient time to this visit.. the lunch was in the buffet restaurant with very good variety food. The visit to the Bohemian beer factory was excellent.. The museum is very well organized with a lot of information and also sufficient beer testing.. the visit to the imperial Palace was very interesting. The tour guide Mrs Christine gives us a lot of explication and all the time was full with information. We are very happy to have an excellent service from the tour guide and from the driver and everything and according to the very good protocol.. Mrs Suzanne and Mr Atanas From Montréal-Canada
Noone picked me up at the hotel. Waited for 2+ hours, contacted tour operator via chat in viator.com ... no response, called their phone ... no one answered. Was too late to re-book ... wasted a whole day.
Mama Christine is a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable of the history of the area. We also learned how the ladies used fans in the old days. How to let gentlemen know if you're married, not interested, looking for romance, or if you want to cut to the chase.
Excellent day tour of petropolis by Aline Gomes Beautiful place in the mountains and well explained by Aline. Highly recommended
Great history lesson on Petropolis, with many stops around the city. Christine was knowledge, funny, engaging, and made this experience a success
Approximately 30 mins from our departure from pick up location bus had a “low tire” so we stopped for 40 mins on the side of the road to fix the problem… which it seemed to be more than a low tire. Maintenance should be checked prior to departure. On the way to Petrópolis there was an accident so we were on a steep hill for another 40 mins or so (obviously out of their control but it did not help the situation as we were already behind schedule). During our trip we got heavy rain and the bus was leaking from the ceiling and windows. At the end of the tour while dropping passengers off at different locations, the bus driver hit a car parked on the side of the road. We proceeded to wait again to resolve the issue. The tour guide was nice and although some things were out of her control, things kept piling up. The tour was advertised as a group of 30, there were 45 passengers on the bus. Our pick up location at time of reservation was not an issue until later that day (after reservation had been confirmed for hours) and we had to Uber to another location…which they were late 25 mins. I have used Viator on several occasions and never had a problem. This tour did not meet their standard and a full refund should be offered.
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM! Never contacted us. Never answered us. We had to contact Viator Support team to try to reach them and even then they didn't contact us. So irresponsible, we left Rio without going to Petrópolis because of them. I had to contact Viator Support to request for refund.
