We went on an afternoon food tour with Lucas recently. It was a nice experience, both for the unique food and the good company. We went to 4 different small restaurants, without walking more than a few blocks. The food was delicious, and the neighborhood was very interesting. I recommend this tour, though I will say that it is a bit far from Copacabana. Go for it!

Small tour with plentiful portions of delicious food while you dine at various establishments and learn about the people and place that gave rise to this unique cuisine. Bernardo was a wonderful guide who made it feel like we were hanging out with a friend!
Come hungry! This is truly authentic Brazilian food with a lot of African-inspired recipes and dishes. The food that we tried was amazing. Bernardo did a fantastic job of explaining the food in English and Portuguese.
Cancelled two hours beforehand due to low numbers. This could happen to you. The meeting point is not near Copacabana fyi.
The tour was interesting; Catarina made an effort to tell the story from different perspective than typical guides, and the food was like homemade cooking.
This was an amazingly delicious food tour, and a wonderful way to spend my birthday. Lucas was open, friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The dish selection was excellent, and showcased the breadth of what Brazilian food has to offer. My friends and I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Obrigado Lucas!!!
If you enjoy exploring different cuisines, this one is for you! You get to visit an experience an area you might not normally in Rio. You learn history of Brazil and how it’s connected to African cuisine. There’s not lots of walking; condensed in a small area.
The food was 10/10!! Catarina was so welcoming and did an excellent job teaching us about the history and choosing delicious food! Highly recommend (:
Catarina was an amazing tour guide! She was fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the food, history, and culture of Brazil and specifically Little Africa. 10/10 experience!
The food tour was great! All of the food was delicious and our tour guide Catarina was excellent.
This was the favorite part of our trip! The food was absolutely delicious! Our tour guide Bernardo was very knowledgeable about the history and the food itself. Highly recommend this tour.
Caterina was an amazing hostess. The restaurants we sampled had a very nice assortment and the food was authentic Brazilian and that made it even better.
Really enjoyed experiencing local Brazilian food on our food tour. Lucas was a fun and engaging guide.
What a great way to spend an afternoon in Rio! Berna was an excellent host and incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and kind. We got to try several local dishes, all with unique flavors. It was great to check out a part of the city we hadn’t explored yet and learn more about the neighborhood’s history. Would recommend!
Our guide Lucas was great. He explained every dish in detail and gave a good history of the restaurants we went to. He spoke English well and communication was no problem. The only drawback with the tour is the confusion of the time of meet up. Our voucher said 4pm but our meeting with Lucas was at 1:45 pm. I was confirming it with the operator but there the reply came a day late. Hopefully customer support of the operator can fix this.
Bernardo was the best. Knowledgeable and engaging. Tasted some wonderful food and tried things I wouldn’t have a chance to otherwise. Highly recommend.
Bernardo was the best. Knowledgeable and engaging. And I left so full of great Brazilian food. Would highly recommend.
Catarina was fantastic!! She was so fun and accommodating and we loved not only the food we got to try but her cultural education as well!! A must do on your trip with Catarina!!!
Catherina was such a fun and engaging guide. The other group attending the tour made it even more enjoyable! The food was delicious and learning where the foods fit into Brazilian culture was interesting. Also, the various restaurants where we sampled food were very close together, so if you don’t want to be marched all over town this is a great tour for you!
Our guide Lucas was incredibly nice, welcoming, and truly passionate about sharing Rio’s culture. He was very informative throughout the tour and also shared many of his own experiences, which made everything feel more personal and meaningful. He took us to four different local restaurants, each offering delicious and authentic Rio dishes. Every stop felt thoughtfully chosen, and he explained the history and flavors behind what we were trying. It was a perfect mix of great food, local insight, and genuine connection. Highly recommended!
Lucas took us on an amazing Brazilian food tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He is exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about Brazilian food and culture. He explained everything so well and made the whole tour relaxed, interesting, and fun. The food was excellent, the selection of places was great, and Lucas made us feel very welcome throughout. It was a fantastic way to experience authentic Brazilian cuisine and learn more about the local culture at the same time. We would highly recommend Lucas to anyone looking for a Brazilian food tour. Thank you, Lucas, for such a memorable experience!
Thankful for vegan options. Food was incredible. Amazing chef
Lucas was a great host - walking us from one tasty food stop to the next ( all in the same neighborhood - so very easy walk) and telling us about each dish we tried. Yummy food, great guide, fun neighborhood - all thumbs up! (And if you walk away hungry, it’s your own fault. We were stuffed! 😊)
We loved our tour with Bernardo! He was so kind and knowledgeable. I don't think I have ever learned so much information on a food tour as I did during this one. For each dish and dish origin location, he shared so much history and culture. It was wonderful getting to try several Afro-Brazilian dishes given that the tour I believe is in a predominantly Afro-Brazilian neighborhood. 10/10 would recommend!
This is an interesting neighborhood that we wouldn’t have seen otherwise on our short trip to Rio. We appreciated Catarina’s great descriptions and conversation. It was an enjoyable afternoon.
A very nice and relaxant food experience in the african root of Rio de Janeiro. Our guide, Bernardo, was very nice. His stories took us in many places in Brasil and, yes, I will visit next time Baxia and Salvador to go deeper in those stories. Thank you Bernardo.
Catarina was amazing! Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Taught us so much about the culture and history of Brazil, answered all of our questions and genuinely made our experience very worth it! Highly recommend! And the food we tried was delish
It’s a food lover’s heaven , 4 different restaurants around the same area from appetizers to desserts we love it and were stuffed
Catarina was a breath of fresh air and helped make the tour unique and educational , she was very knowledgeable and great fun
The food tour with Catarina was amazing! She was so welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring throughout the entire experience. Every place that she chose had authentic and delicious food. She even included alcoholic beverage that was super delicious and it's not easy to get me to drink lol. We both loved it. We walked through neighborhoods after each stop and she shared great cultural insights along the way. She has a lot of knowledge about the history of Rio de Janeiro. And she speaks 3 languages. Pretty Impressive!!! Catarina is very friendly, she opened up right away and made us feel very comfortable. If you're staying in Rio de Janeiro, give this tour a try, especially with Catarina if possible. Thank you Catarina from the both of us! Victor and Renita R. May 2026
We had a great time with Lucas on the food tour! Everything was delicious and it was great to get a variety of meals and learn about their origins. All of the restaurants were very close together, so a very accessible option.
The tour with Catarina was incredible! She was so knowledgeable about both the food and the culture, and she was patient and engaging throughout the experience. I highly recommend this tour, just make sure you arrive with an empty stomach because you’ll be very well fed!
We did the tour with Lucas as our guide. He was more then knowledgeable. He took time to explain us the food we were having. We had a great time and would recommend this tour.
Great experience with Lucas, he was friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable about Brazils diverse culinary history, food offerred was varied, the fish seafood broth with rice was the highlight for me, highly recommended
A great tour. Bruno, our guide, gave us a great explanation of the history of Rio and the food that was part of it.
Our guide Lucas is knowledgeable, personable, and enthusiastic about sharing a few of the many gems to be found in Brazilian food in his home town of Rio de Janeiro. With a sampling of traditional Brazilian grilled meats, to classics like feijoada, bolinhos de bacalhau, and some pleasant surprises, we were taken across a broad range of eating. This is a recommended experience, but be warned that you will be quite full toward the end!
Bernardo was great! It felt like getting food with a friend while learning about the history of Brazil. Great bites and even better company. Very personable and informative.
We tried delicious foods in 3 different locations. Our tour guide Cadu was awesome and very knowledgeable - we really enjoyed our time with him!
Lia was an amazing guide. She went above and beyond and made the experience as enjoyable as it was. We heard about the cultural footings of the foods and neighbourhoods, so it was two tours in one really. She even guided us through the Samba nearby and gave everyone tips for their following days
Very poor value for the money. The first stop was at a indigenous restaurant and the food was basically inedible. Not just me, everyone else thought the same. Guide was fantastic, definitely 2 thumbs up. Then one other stop which we were given a couple of items that were so so. That was it!! No drink , no nothing! Sorry we were given a piece of fried cheese in jam. Basically 2 stops. Complete rip-off, find another company.
Down to earth experience with a lovely guide- shoutout to Jovi. It was informative but also full of laughs and stories.
It was great to have a guide like Lucas to take me around with the other group members to age great drinks, food, and dessert. I highly recommend this tour and to ask for Lucas as a guide 🤞🏿🙏🏿
Jovi was an absolute delight! He was informed, and tried very proudly to educate us on his ancenstry through food. The restaurants were all chosen with care to illustrate different aspects of Brazilian food, The group we were with (there were three couples and us) were very engaging and altogether lovely. Thank you, Jovi, for your excellent introduction to Tacaça and beyond?!
Excellent early evening food tour with Lukas who was brilliant a fabulous guide . Would highly recommend
Lucas did an excellent job of explaining local culture and food.
We went to places and tried different food we would never have tried if we toured Rio on our own. Would well recommend this tour . Javi , the tour guide was great as well . Don’t eat too much at the first location, pace yourself . 👍
Loved this tour! This is a much more than a “tasting” tour! Come hungry because this is really more like two small meals plus an extra dessert all eaten at leisure while discovering some of the real (non-touristic) neighborhoods of Rio. Our guide, Lucas, was first rate from his welcome What’s App message to waiting for us to get in an Uber back to our hotel. His kind manner, his concern with our comfort and his enjoyment of visitors were just excellent. We especially liked the conversation over our table and both desserts! The tour was a bit over 3 hours long, and a really good value for the experience.
We visited a few places. The guide Natalia was very nice and knowledgeable. She told us many historic and cultural stories. Her English was excellent. She also recommended a good place to eat afterwards (good and relatively cheap).
What a great food tour. This tour focused on the authentic meals from Brazil, not just Rio De Janeiro. Lucas, our guide ensured we had a very informative and friendly evening as we ate our way through parts of Brazil. Lucas’s command of the english language was exceptional which added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. I highly recommend this food tour.
Our guide, Bernardo, taught us about Brazilian culture through the food in the area of Rio De Janeiro. He hired a car to take us to the center of downtown to experience authentic African influenced food.
