We loved our tour to Petropolis. We wanted a day trip from Rio and this was perfect. Fabiana was a great guide and very personable. We saw the former casino, an old preserved home of German workers and the Imperial Palace among other stops. The scenery was beautiful and the history very interesting. I highly recommend this tour.

I took my bosses dad with me on this excision. We had a blast. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Our tour was perfect. Our tour guide Romulo and our driver, coincidentally, Romulo made a great team. We are an older couple (73 & 75), and they took great care for our safety and comfort. Saw every thing we wanted to see and more. It was wonderful, getting out of Rio for the day with a welcome respite from the heat and overall frenetic energy of the city. Petropolis is calm, cool and historically interesting.
Excellent trip the driver was excellent and we felt safe going up and down the mountains. The guide Henry was wonderful, knowledgeable and attentive. Gave us guided tour but also allowed us to explore alone. A wonderful day. I would recommend to everyone.
The Petrópolis Tour is very interesting! It provides an immersive experience and education about Brazilian history.
Our guide Rafael and driver, Alex did a fantastic job. They picked us up from the hotel and enjoyed the experience. After a wonderful tour, Rafael choose a great trip to have lunch. Thank you Rafael and Alex.
We did four tours with Marcelo and his company while in Brazil. All three were outstanding. After booking a Rio tour with him, we had a couple days to fill in our itinerary and he suggested this tour. It did not disappoint. It was a great change of pace from Rio full of history and culture. The palace and casino were both must see attractions. It was also our last day of the trip and he flawlessly coordinated our drop off at the airport. If you need a top Rio tour company, look no further. Marcelo will work with you, adjust, and customize to fit you.
Fabulous location to get away, visit the Imperial Palace and church. Walk around the locality, to feel like you are on another holiday a tremendous change from busy and hot Rio.
The tour was great but the company was even better, Rafael and his partner are wonderful persons we had an awesome time with them, Rafael is very knowledgeable and he explained everything clearly and in detail, he understood our needs and worked with us. We’re 1000% satisfied. Thank you
A great tour with Fabriana , our guide, on a very rainy day. No problem with the rain as tour is mostly indoors . Excellent architecture and history. Although quite a way from Rio, its well worth a visit once you’ve seen The main sights in Rio ie Christ the Redemer etc.
the casino is wonderful and the 7 mistakes house unique. it was good to go to the palace also and learnm about the history of royal family.
The trip to Petropolis was a wonderful surprise! Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We had a great time! We enjoyed the sites and history! I would highly recommend this tour to my family and friends!
Our guide was excellent, and gave a very detailed tour of the city, and also gave us insight into the culture of Brazil. He gave us an excellent lunch recommendation of a Brazilian barbecue that was fabulous. The sites that we saw were very interesting, and he knew many details, and was very knowledgeable. Thank you, Marcelo!
We had a wonderful day touring the Imperial city with our fantastic guide, Fabiana, and our agile diver, Bruno. This is a private tour that lasts all day and well worth the money. We learned so much about the royal family that ruled Brazil in the 1800s.
the whole experience was great, even jnr the driver, was smiling and helpful. we thoughly enjoyed the knowledge imparted by the Guide Famy and she gave us very good history. the casino was ubelievable a woderful folly ! oved every minute of the tour.
Marcelo gave a great tour - we were picked up at the pier, and transported in a comfortable car to Petropolis where we visited the Quitandinha palace, the emperor’s summer home, the cathedral, and the house of seven errors, followed by a great lunch. Marcelo had excellent knowledge of Brazil’s history, the city of Petropolis, and made the day thoroughly enjoyable. For anyone that needs an option to the standard Rio landmarks, this tour is worth the time.
Henri is such an interesting guide and carries so much detailed information on his subjects. He is fun, knowledgable, smart and polite. We feel lucky that we were assigned to him. Thank you.
We had a great time. Fabi and Bruno are the best. It was a perfect opportunity to take advantage of seeing something that’s not the usual tourist attraction. Thank you
What an amazing tour and our guide Rafael was the best! It was nice to get away from Rio and visit Petropolis for a day. Rafael spoke perfect English. He is a history major so he was a wealth of Brazilian knowledge. His stories were very interesting to listen to. I learned so much about Brazil. I can’t say enough great things about Rafael and this tour.
Faby is an excellent guide, a knowledgeable and charming lady. She made it fun and interesting, while catering to our preferences.
If you have a day to spare in Rio, a day with Marcelo in Petrópolis would be worth your while. Well organized, coupled with good food and bit of myth and mystery, this makes a fun day out.
Petropolis is incredibly beautiful and our guides Marcelo and Favi were fabulous. They were extremely knowledgeable, took us to interesting places, took wonderful care of us and even arranged private access to an attraction normally closed on the day we were in Petropolis. We felt like we had a great day out with two good friends. Don't miss Petropolis if you are in Rio and definitely do it with this tour company!
Fabiana and Marcello met us at the cruise terminal on time and we're very energetic and ready for a day of fun. We got to their car and they immediately began talking with us and making us feel so welcome to their country while asking us about where we were from. Throughout the full-day tour, we stopped for a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon dessert, and each time they helped us understand what we were ordering. We visited all the highlights in Petropolis and Fabiana provided excellent narration at every stop. They were a blast to spend the day with and again made us feel as if they genuinely enjoyed showing us around! I would recommend them to any future travelers to the Rio de Janeiro.
5 star service. Very informative and interesting, and fun. Fabiana spoke good English and Junior( forgive me if called him a wrong name :)) was the best driver. Day was adjusted to our schedule with lunch and less waiting time for tickets. Definitely recommend it to all my friends.
A wonderful day seeing all the sites in Petropolis. The Quitandinha Palace was amazing. We especially enjoyed the Imperial Palace Museum and the cathedral. Julio was an excellent guide! He knew the history of the sites and made it an enjoyable day.
Faby was a WONDERFUL tour guide! From the hotel pick-up to drop-off, she ensured that my friend and I had an amazing experience. When we mentioned that we would love to have some Brazilian coffee to take home as a souvenir, she incorporated a stop in the tour to accommodate! She was so knowledgeable about all of the places we saw. There isn't a better way to see Petropolis and all of its sights!
Every single part of the trip was fantastic! It’s a beautiful drive and Petropolis is very charming. Definitely recommend if you are going to be in Rio for a few days.
Discover part of Brasil history by the hand of our awsome guide Fabiana and our kind driver. Very comprehensive explanations
What a great tour. Marcelo was able to adjust things to our needs and was very good with historical information and context. Our favorite was the German House. There was an exuberant English speaking guide that gave us a wonderful tour in addition to Marcelo’s input. Lunch was terrific as well. Enjoyed the whole experience immensely. Don’t want to forget our driver, Junior, He parks like a champ and allows Marcelo to give you his full attention.
Raphael’ was a wonderful tour guide! We saw very interesting things in Petropolis like the imperial museum and the old casino. We also saw the house of seven errors, which was quite interesting. Overall very worthwhile tour.
This tour was fantastic as were our guide Marcelo and driver Junior. We were able to do our own thing at our own pace. The history was super interesting! After the palace, we visited the Imperial Museum and nearby, beautiful cathedral. Lunch was at what was an old stable/carriage house with an impressive menu (try the risotto, unexpectedly delicious). Lastly, we were given access to an historic private mansion, Casa de Ipiranga (aka the house of seven errors) with all the original finishes including a magnificent jacaranda wood stair case and wood ceilings. It was a fascinating and a little bit creepy yet overall, cool experience. We skipped the brewery and visited a yummy chocolate shop instead. I highly recommend this tour and guide. We were well taken care of throughout the day.
This tour was great. Both the driver and the tour guide were very friendly and accomodating. I would recommend leaving earlier in the morning. My group got a later start and we were stuck behind a slow moving truck going up the mountain. Nothing that could have been avoided but we were able to make last minute changes to see the most important things for us in the city. Definitely recommend this particular tour. If we're ever back in the area, we would schedule again to do the sites that we were not able to see.
A truly wonderful day!. Could not have asked or hoped for more. We even got to go up to the second floor of the house to set an errors. The casino was amazing and Marcelo found us a perfect place to have a lunch. Marcelo is very knowledgeable, and we would highly recommend booking a tour with him. Beautiful drive to and from Petropolis.
Marcelo was our amazing tour guide for our trip to Petropolis. What an amazing place to visit. So beautiful and unexpected. Glorious buildings with so much history to be shared and learned. Marcelos knowledge and easy manners made the day so much more enjoyable. A wonderful day to soak up a beautiful town.
Marcelo was so knowledgable with perfect English.bHe knew the best stops for photos, food and snacks. He was beyond helpful with tips for the rest of our stay and making sure we were safely dropped back at the hotel. Me and my two daughters (9 and 12) learned so much about Brazilian history and culture. The House of Seven Errors is like nowhere else we've ever seen. An absolute highlight of our stay in Rio.
Great tour and a great tour guide. The guide was very knowledgeable and very helpful. A wonderful day.
The tour to Petropolis was an eye-opener into the history of Brazil and the establishment of Petropolis. Our guide, Marcela was very knowledgeable of Brazil’s history and Petropolis. It was a great tour and put in to perspective the development of Rio de Janeiro. Thank you Marcela. My wife and I appreciated the safe driving by Junior.
Our guide, Marcelo, was excellent, knowledgeable, are VERY interactive. The driver was also very good.
This really is a must visit opportunity. We were met at the hotel on time and Marcelo and the driver were very friendly and informative throughout the whole day. The transport was adequate, being a private vehicle, but accommodated 4 adults + guide. The choice of sightseeing venues were superb, as was the lunch venue. This excursion deserves to be highly recommended. Our thanks to this team.
I highly recommend the Petrópolis tour with Rafael. Rafael is a history buff when it comes to his native Country Brazil. The amount of knowledge that you get by the end of the tour is incredible. Going to Petrópolis itself is quite a change of scenery as you get away from the coast and travel inland into the mountains to get there. There is a lot to see and learn about the historical Petrópolis. It feels as if you went through a portal into another Country in Europe when you get to Petrópolis, as a lot of its architecture is of Bavarian and French influences. I highly recommend the tour and especially Rafael as a tour guide!
Wow! So glad we did this tour because we were not going to, originally! When I contacted Marcelo for a custom tour through Rio, Petropolis was not on my list. However, he suggested it highly and we decided to trust him and go for it. So glad Marcelo knows his country, his business, and can read his potential clients through some quick WhatsApp interactions. We LOVED it! Gorgeous 1.5 hour drive up to around 2,500 feet which cooled us down a bit! Fabiana the fabulous tour guide did an incredible job describing the German influence and offered to stop if we wished for some cappuccino and Petropolis toast at a German influenced road stop. Just excellent! The first stop at what we call the, “Hollywood House”, but is actually named Quitandinha Palace, was fascinating. Half abandoned and half occupied its surreal at best. Then, the Palace of Peter the II. Very pretty and modest in comparison to some of the worlds palaces. Fabiana expertly navigated us through the crowds and gave us the perfect amount of history in fantastic stories that kept us interested, involved, and entertained! The last stop, though WOW!!! The house of errors. Looks like a dilipidated old house worth a stop to find the intentional, “errors”, but to go inside is mind blowing! All in its original condition, real gold wall coverings, intricate jacaranda wood carvings, ceilings, furniture…the list goes on. It’s simply unexpectedly stunning! The 2nd and 3rd floors are off limits to tourists. However, Fabiana and Marcelo of Be Free tours got us a special last minute approval to go up. Truly a unique and special place! You must visit! Lunch at Bordeaux, the restaurant next door is a FABULOUS end to the day!!!
This day-long tour was fascinating. We learned a lot about Brazil’s history. Our guide, Rafael, was outstanding: very pleasant and knowledgeable. The scenery was beautiful. The car was very comfortable and driver Julio excellent. We would strongly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Brazilian history and visiting sites outside Rio.
We had the best tour guide! She made the trip very memorable. The trip was easy. The Bordeaux fondue and Katz latte and chocolate delicious. Thank you!
A wonderful day in Petropolis led by Marcelo. Something completely different and a chance to see the former summer Imperial Capital high up in the hills outside Rio. It was a well organised trip and contained a number of highlights including the interior of the extraordinary former casino and hotel, Quitandinha as well as the House of the 7 errors - a 19th Century mansion with a host of original features. We were able to visit all of the house on an exclusive tour with Marcelo and it was quite memorable. Thoroughly recommend this trip whilst staying in Rio. Nice to escape from the heat of Rio too!
Fantastic day out. A totally different experience compared to Rio. Great place and lots of historical significance - well worth a visit when visiting Rio. Guides are fab - would highly recommend as they add so much to the visit. Well worth the money.
Marcelo was an excellent guide starting from our visit to the Steps that we had missed the day before and then continuing on to Petropolis. Such an amazing building and the day only got better as it went on. From the House of Seven Errors to the Cathedral and visits to the Brewery and ending at Katz for some chocolate, the day was truly one of the best we had on this trip. Obrigada, Marcelo!
We loved getting out of Rio and learning something about Brazil's history. The casino is spectacular and we also enjoyed the cathedral and Palace. The house of 7 faults is wonderful with all its original furniture and textiles. However it urgently needs to be conserved before it is too late. We had a memorable lunch at the Brewery. Both Marcelo, our guide, and our driver spoke excellent English. Marcelo was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the area. Certainly a worthwhile trip.
Marcelo was a fantastic guide. very passionate about the points we visisted and exceptionally knowledgable. The day was full of surprises, lovely destinations and food. After a full day of touring Marcelo went out of his way to help us sort out our phones and connect. What a great day out with a fantastic team anda fantastic destination. Highly recommended!!!
We had a wonderful experience on this tour to Petropolis. Marcelo was great. He reached out to us prior to the trip and helped set up the pick up etc. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the history of Brasil and Petropolis. He kept the teenagers engaged too. Was able to suggest places to lunch and coffee and we went to an excellent chocolate and coffee café. They were on time and adjusted the tour according to our family interest and needs. The city is worth visiting with wonderful architecture and history. Very Quaint. Overall an excellent tour and we highly recommend this. Thank you Marcelo.
I highly recommend this tour. Petropolis is truly a hidden gem, it’s charming and has a very unique architecture. Marcello is a wonderful guide. He is very knowledgeable and, I learnt a lot not only about Petropolis but also about the history of Brazil. The casino palace has the most exquisite interior, and I found chandeliers particularly impressive. Overall I can’t say enough good things about this tour. We had lunch at local brewery and both the food and beer was just delicious.
