We had a wonderful time exploring Rio with Monica as our guide! Monica was incredibly knowledgeable and knew exactly where to take us and when, adjusting the itinerary depending on the weather and cloud cover to make sure we had the best possible views. During our full-day tour, we visited Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, the Selarón Steps, the Metropolitan Cathedral and Maracanã Stadium. It was a fantastic way to experience so many of Rio’s highlights in just one day! We booked a private tour for our group of six friends, with convenient pick-up and drop-off directly at our hotel. The minibus was very comfortable and could easily have accommodated more people. All entrance fees and lunch were included in the tour price, which made everything very convenient. We also enjoyed a delicious traditional Brazilian buffet lunch, which was a lovely experience in itself! Monica was a fantastic guide, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day with her. We would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Rio! Thank you so much, Monica, for a wonderful day!

Itinerary
We visit to Corcovado Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue going through the Paineiras route. The 20-minute drive to the base of the statue takes you through the Tijuca Forest and gives you a preview of the landscapes ahead. The statue stands 710 meters tall and from this vantage point, you’ll have sweeping views of the city.
The cable car ride to the top of the mountain is done in 2 stages: begin at the boarding station to Urca Mountain (224 meters) and then from Urca Mountain to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain (395 meters).
The first step to reach the Sugarloaf.
Located between the Sugarloaf Mountain and the Urca Mountain, the Praia Vermelha is a charming place.
Located in Santa Teresa, the Selarón Steps are famous for its bright and colourfull tiles.
The modern archtecture is very different from the traditional cathedrals we see out there. Enjoy the beautiful stained glasses and try to guess the biblical passages they got their inspiration from.
Football - or soccer, if you prefer - is part of the Brazilian life. We love to watch the games and share experiences with complete strangers that get together for one purpose: support their team on the field. The Maracanã Stadium is considered our temple and a sacred place for those who enjoy a great game. We can take pictures outside of the Stadium and share stories about our favorite matches.
See the Carnival temple, the place where the magic happens. The Sambadrome opens only during carnival time.

Well organized . Highly recommend 👍👍
Our guide was excellent. Knowledgeable and fun. Answered all our questions well.
Really great trip if you are on limited time in Rio like we were, covered all the "must do's" and a nice traditional buffet to finish off with!
We did this tour on 8 October 2026 and it was fantastic. Our tour guide was Marlady. She provided entertaining commentary and information in both Spanish and English, and was very friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The tour encompassed all the main sights of Rio de Janeiro, and Marlady was very helpful in allowing us to extend our tour and giving information about other tour options during our stay. Highly recommend Rio Carioca and especially Marlady for any RJ tours.
Our guide Karine was great. She was friendly and kept our tour on track, despite some disrespectful tour members who disregarded timing instructions and were significantly late mid-tour. We made up the time and Karine handled it very well. The tour itself was great - hit all of the highlights, and we were given enough time at each location. Karine also provided good information about each tour highlight in the shuttle prior to arrival. The shuttle was air-conditioned.
This was my only tour I did my whole 10 day trip in Brazil because it was so amazing I didn’t need another. We covered EVERYTHING and the buffet was awesome my guide Karine was so helpful and knowledgeable. She spoke in English and German so easy and even helped in Portuguese when I needed her to!
Great experience and superb service. Christ the redeemer trip was almost cancelled because of the rain and mudslide but they were flexible enough to fix it later on
Tour guide refused transportation at the end of your. Mediocre restaurant Unable to understand guide strong accent. My wife was terrified to walk in an unsafe area after the tour guide declined transportation back to the hotel eve after she explained her emotional fears. Shock by the tour guide declined without explanation other than the hotel was close 15-20 minutes distance.
I am requesting a refund for christ the redeemer the tour guide had is late to the tour we had to pay to see Christ the Redeemer out of our pockets again when I had already paid for it once.
Expect to be very satisfied with the tour. We saw and visited the best highlights of Rio. Our guide, Karen, took very good care of us and kept the tour on schedule. We give her 5+ stars.
Marlady tour guide was phenomenal, professional & knowledgeable
Everything was truly excellent. Our guide, Monica, provided great explanations throughout the tour; she was always ready to answer questions and was incredibly empathetic and friendly. The timing of the tour was perfect, and at every stop, she gave us detailed explanations, relevant facts, and the history of the location. The place where we had lunch was also excellent—the food was delicious and of high quality.
What can I say about this fantastic nine hour experience of visiting Christ The Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain & the Rio City Tour which included a trip to the famous Macarena Stadium (even though sightseeing was restricted to only the exterior of the Stadium though😊, it was still worth it), the magnificent Catedral Metropolitana de Sao Sebastiao, the noted Escadaria Selaron Steps & not forgetting the sumptuous buffet lunch we all had at a wonderful restaurant. AWESOME is the word to describe this tour. This incredible and memorable experience was made possible for my two children and I by this Company (Rio Carioca Tour), Katrin the hardworking, very very patient and marvelous Company’s Tour Guide & the lovely Tour Driver who drove us for so many hours to these places. The price for the tour with this Company was also very reasonable considering all the numerous places we visited & the buffet food we ate at the restaurant. ‘Obrigado’ Katrin & Rio Carioca Tour Team for making our Rio de Janeiro holiday a truly special one.
Tour was very good. It hit all the main sights to see. Tour guide was very good. Appreciated that it didn’t take too much time to pick up others in group.
Pickup was 15 minutes late. Signed up for English tour. The Tour was done in Spanish and English with Spanish always first. We were past points of interst by the time English was given.
Greta experience and great tour guide.
Plinio is the Don! What an incredible tour guide, he made us feel like family, funny, informative, he worked 2 extra hours past the time to make sure we see more stuff. Met such incredible people from around the world. Cudnt have asked for a better tour. Thank you!
This is a great tour. We all felt safe throughout and no one got lost. Joao was our guide and he was very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke great English and Spanish. The tour is well organized, they sent a note the night before to confirm and set expectations and executed exactly as detailed. We are pleased with our trip to Rio and recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed our day with Clara. She was friendly and very well organized. The tour was superb. There were numerous stops. The lunch was great.
Pros: you could see a lot and it is well organized in terms of optimizing viewing times at Sugar Loaf and Christ Redeemer. Cons: Tour leader imposed a random and unfair policy not used in ANY other tour bus that passengers must remain in the seats they got upon boarding for the first time. This policy is not stated anywhere and is unfair for those who are picked up last through no choice of their own. The policy would make sense if all seats were the same, but they are not. Some are scrunched and all the way in the back, some are 3-seaters, some are two-seaters and some are single. Some have very obstructed view. There is no fairness or logic for those who are last collected from hotel to be forever condemned to the worst seats. We did not pay any less than other passengers who through chance got collected first. This is a nonsensical and unfair approach. Lunch is at a mediocre cafeteria after which I got food poisoning. Price would be right if the operation wasn't unreasonable about the ridiculous bus seating policy and lunch were higher end.
Great day out - covers all major sights - would highly recommend
Thoroughly enjoyed our day visiting the highlights of Rio. Delicious buffet lunch (included in price) which had excellent vegan options. Monica our guide was fantastic. Her knowledge and spontaneity introduced us to Brazilian history and life in Rio. Perfect Day 1 of our holiday here!
Had a wonderful experience with Monica and Bruno! Monica did a masterful job giving context for all the history behind the city, Christ the redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain. Not only was she knowledgeable, she made sure our group stuck together and got great photos and opportunity to enjoy our experience! Highly recommend!
Tour was great and she did a great job keeping up with where everyone in the group is.
We had an amazing experience with Monica! She was an excellent tour guide!
Very friendly. Always counting the number of people in the tour. Be quick and responsive to answer questions.
Sugarloaf was a pleasant experience whilst the Christ the Redeemer site needs some serious crowd control. One the the most congested tourist sites I’ve been to!
Marlady and Carlos were incredible tour guides speaking multiple languages, knowledgeable, and the nicest people you will meet. The site were epic and part of that was the experience either Marley and Carlos!!! Epic!
To put it in a nutshell....it was amazing...simply amazing. Our guide Carlos knew everything there was to know. The day blew me away..with the most breathtaking scenery, a definite must for anyone wanting to do this excursion
Very comprehensive tour of the city's main areas. The guide, Guilherme, was very friendly, and so was Adriana, the driver.
WOW! Incredible, value for money tour. Only suggestion is to do the Christ before Sugarloaf. Guide was super pleasant as was the driver. Was happy with food provided at resturant...lots of vegetarian options. Thank you for making my trip to Rio a memorable one. Fyi: it was Palm Sunday so it made the trip even more worthwhile with all the religous aspects explained.
I had a wonderful tour with knowlagable and experience tour guide (Marlady). Transport and driver also good.
Fantastic tour guide was great and so helpful. Communication before was excellent- would recommend for your first trip to Rio
Very good value for money You actually see most everything in Rio in one day unfortunately the guide in Rio don’t give much information on the tour will be nice if the talking more about places we visit
Our group had the pleasure of having, Monica as our guide. She was informed and kept the group together as one.
I was at the pick up spot. I waited with my group. I saw others looking too for their driver. We were at the pick up location with these 4 others at the pier at 8:00 AM who had the same tour booked. We searched for our driver. We both tried to reach Viator, no answer at first. We found Portuguese speaking prople to help and to translate the answering machine. Another person reached Viator at around 9:00 and was told they would try to reach the driver and get back to us. NO ONE CALLED BACK & NO DRIVER ARRIVED. We were among the last to be at the pier. Finally around 10AM we banded together and secured a van to take us!! YES, WE PAID TWICE! This system is poor because they only want to communicate via WhatsApp and there is little bi-lingual communication or regular text, not even an email!! I will NEVER use Viator again!! I am disputing the Pl harder with my credit card company!!
The tour covered everything as expected. We had plenty of time at each stop, and all stops were great. The ticket process at Sugarloaf was a little difficult with a large group and one person having all tickets for the group on their phone. This slowed the process down a little.
Miss Monica is the best. We not just enjoyed our time in the city, we learned a lot about it and even felt like locals. Excellent professionalism. We were very lucky to have her as our guide.
The point of interest stopped at were very interesting a bit crowded but worth it. The biggest difference in the quality of the tour would be the guide.
Our group thoroughly enjoyed this tour. While there's tons to see in Rio, this tour hits most of the key sites, which were all great to see. The tour was efficient and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We recommend this tour for those interested.
The tour company overbooked leaving 3 people too many. We ended up stepping off and paying additional for a taxi to take us around all day. Wouldve just done that had we known. The company did little, example, they purchased the tickets when we arrived at the destination. We could've done that and not been stuck in a crowded vehicle all day.
First time in Rio. Love everything about the tour Monica is very informative, courteous and she speaks many languages. So glad I joined the
This was the worst tour ever I have ever taken so I recommend avoiding it. We spent most of or time in a van while they picked up people from several hotels throughout Rio de Janeiro. We finally got to the first stop of Sugarloaf Mountain after an hour of driving and then had limited time on the Mountain. The guide did not explain much in the car to fill the time. After Sugarloaf we were informed that several people on the bus had paid only for a tour to Sugarloaf so we were going to return them back to four hotels which would take a lot of time. We decided to leave the tour at that time. I requested a partial refund and the tour company refused saying that it was a “shared” tour and I should have known that they had a tour within a tour. I also had major problems communicating with this tour company. They didn’t answer emails or texts until ten minutes before the tour was starting.
We saw everything we wanted to see but there is alot of queuing. It was a great day though, our suggestion would be to include fast track pass and charge slightly more.
Hectic day but well thought out and we got to see everything as promised. Christ the redeemer was shrouded in mist but that couldn't be helped. Food at lunchtime was good but very chaotic place to eat. Which we'd done the steps first as by the time we got there they were so full of visitors you couldn't see them at all.
Great Guide in Joao. Knowledgeable and helpful and changed the timing of the day to suit the weather. Plus a Great lunch time meal.
Excellent in organization, timing allowed at each venue & itinerary flowed smoothly. Joao, our guide was fabulous in providing background & details on each venue.
Guilherme and his driver were absolutely wonderful. I travel with a portable oxygen concentrator and walker, and they went out of their way to make sure that everything was as easy as possible, and that I was able to participate in all of the activities. I can’t believe that he speaks so many languages and was able to keep up with everybody. He was able to answer all of our questions and shared lots of history and stories with us. Lunch was in a nice restaurant and food was great. It was a long day, but was definitely well worth it as we covered quite a bit!
This is my first visit to Rio de Janeiro. This is the best way to visit the 2 important tourist spots in Rio - Sugar Loaf and Christ the Redeemer, as well as the others. Communications is good, we are contacted by the tour operator on the evening before. Pick up is efficient and didn’t spend a lot of time to go to different places. Our tour guide Joao spoke good English and took good care of us. He also gave us tips to other interesting places that was not covered by this tour. Lunch was buffet type and good.
