Great tour with a local guide. The tour lasted 2 hours and you got a good impression about the life in the Favela. We visited a roof top with an amazing view over the suburb. The guide could answered all questions raised. The motorbike tour at the beginning to the was a great ride too.

This was the highlight of the r entire trip. It was an experience unmatched by any excursion.
Nice trip in the Favela of Rio. Good informations. Always recommended
Carlos our guide is a local resident and had so much knowledge and experience to share! Tour was amazing and definitely recommend
Carlos was the best tour guide in the favela. We felt really safe with him. His english is excellent and we had some interesting discussions on the walk down about the political landscape home and abroad. Thank you so much for showing us around Carlos!
There is a motorcycle ride to start the trip which was not mentioned plus there were three additional mandatory charges per person that we were not told about.
We had a guided tour of Rocinha with Carlos, who has lived in the favela for 32 years. He gave us a insight into life in Rocinha and was happy to answer all our questions along the way. As part of the tour, we took organised motorcycle taxis up to the top, which was a really fun and exciting experience. We then walked through the favela and stopped at a rooftop with an incredible view, where we could buy something to drink and use the toilet. We walked back down through the favela to the metro afterward together with Carlos. We felt safe throughout the entire tour and really appreciated the opportunity to see Rocinha and learn more about the community from someone who actually lives there. A very interesting and memorable experience. Highly recommend!
Loved this tour. Aside that we booked this last minute and this the arrangement for the meeting point was chaotic it was very cool. The tour guide Caio was very helpfull and funny. The trip to the top was cool and the rooftop view was the best. Sometimes a bit scary in the Favela but if you behave there is nothing to worry. Would definitely recommend!
What an incredible and eye-opening experience. Carlos was our guide and is a local of Rocinha. We learned so much from him, and we never felt like our safety was jeopardized. Carlos— thank you for showing us and teaching us about a different side of Rio. Your knowledge and guidance are the reasons why we will recommend you to friends and family.
Exciting motorcycle ride into the favella always felt safe, guide was thorough and always gave answers to questions interesting experience
Very unique and exotic journey with Carlos, our experienced tour guide filled with humor and expertise. Strongly recommend having the tour with him, a kind native resident who shared us the real Favela life and history.
Carlos was amazing! We felt safe and taken care of, and learned so much! Thank you for everything!
Amazing experience ! Carlos was kind and very knowledgeable.
Great experience, very informative guide also amazing person will definitely make you feel comfortable to ask any questions funny as well, would highly recommend!!
Real authentic look into the flavela crafted and guided by locals, carlos was a great guide who showed us the different sides of the flavela!
Our guide Carlos was so informative and the view from the "rooftop" was amazing. The ride on the motorcylce was very fun. Make sure you bring money for the moto ride, as it is not included in the price. Really worth finding out about how life in the favelas are like. Very sobering.
I had heard so much about the Favelas of Rio that I took the opportunity to visit one on my trip with friend to Rio this month. Our guide was Carlos A., born and raised in the Rocinha Favela that we visited. Carlos is a very down to earth guide who does not hold back in laying bare the truth about the Favela in its physical, social, economic and historical dimensions. You will get to walk up and down the narrow streets of the favela and see its residents as they go about their daily lives. We were treated to a demonstration of Capoeira, a Afro-Brazilian blend of martial arts, acrobatics, dance and music at a local school. All-in-all I enjoyed the time spent learning about the Favela and seeing up close how the reality compares to the the stories one hears about these places. Be forwarned that the trip up the favela is by mototaxi. You are basically riding shotgun on a motorcycle up a narrow winding road with lots of traffic. It can be a little nerve wracking, but well worth the excitement once you reach the higher points with their view over the homes and other structures that make up Rocinha. The way down to the starting point is by foot down narrow alleyways that would difficult for people with disabilities. I highy recommend this tour for a view into a part of Rio de Janeiro that contrasts sharply with its beautiful mountains and beaches.
Excellent experience. Having a local guide was key. His knowledge and experience of living there provided a genuine insight. Support local guides!
We had a guided tour with Carlos who has lived in Rocinha for 31yrs, he gave us incredible insight into the Favella’s. It’s a genuinely safe and interesting experience, which forms a huge part of Rio’s diverse culture and pride. What you don’t hear about the favella’s as an outsider is that they are large, vibrant communities that operate on a code of respect, and they’re very safe as long as you remain respectful. Highly recommend.
Such a GREAT tour. We loved Carlos, so much fun and let us as all questions. We were going to book one with our hostel but so glad we booked with him instead. Never felt unsafe ended up actually feeling safer the Ipanema. Such interesting information from a local
It was an incredible experience and the guide was the best! The favela is definitely very different from what you hear, but you absolutely have to go with a guide.
Great experience! I think visiting a favela is an important part of getting to know the local culture. The wonderful performance by the children's capoeira students left a warm impression. Thank you brother Carlos🙏
This was amazing experience and I highly recommend. Our guides, Carlos and Rafaela were very kind and trustworthy and we (50f and daughter 14f) never felt uneasy. The ride up on the motor taxis was truly exciting and unforgettable, we saw that other guides offered luxury cars but this was such an entertainment and we did not regret our choice. The kids in the capoeira class were amazing and the tight walk down the ladders and steps gave us a glimpse of how it must feel to have limited access to your own home, all the time. The rules were clear, when not to show phones, cameras or even sunglasses and these parts were the most interesting. The guides were born and raised in the favela and it was obvious that they were well known and respected and vice versa. I would truly repeat this trip. The access to the meeting point was easy.
What can I say Carlos you the man. Cracking tour and guide with great English. Carlos is very passionate about his home town and tries to get you in the zone to experience what everyday life is like for those in the Favela. You will require a few extra BR apx 25 but this is explained at time of booking. This covers the cost of transportation up to the top, then guided back down via streets and alleys. If your not a fan of getting on the back of the bike this might not be for you but it was great fun the riders do this day in and day out and as a rider myself felt safe and sound.
Carlos is an amazing tour guide. He is very detailed in what a person should do and not to do while touring his neighborhood. All of the locals respect him, and he shows respect to them. At no time does he make anyone feel unsafe or nervous. The views are amazing and the locals are welcoming and take pride in their community. The favela felt more families looking after each other which is awesome in my eyes. The community makes things happens together and not against each other. Overall, it was a great tour with Carlos and thank you for sharing your neighborhood with us.
Absolute must to see an alternative side of Rio. Carlos was excellent, a local, and felt very safe with him. Highly recommended.
The tour overall was good and I enjoyed the experience. The guides were really nice and friendly. However, while this tour seems cheaper at first, there are some extra costs that are not clearly explained when you book. Before the tour, they message you to bring 50 reais for “extra expenses,” but they don’t specify what these are. On the day of the tour, we were asked to pay multiple small fees, including 10 reais for each motorbike ride, 5 reais for rooftop entry, and 10 reais as an app fee. If you wanted to take the motorbike again on the way back, that was another 10 reais. It’s not a huge amount, but it would have been better if everything was clearly communicated upfront so we could plan accordingly.
This was an excellent tour of Rocinha. Thanks to Carlos our guide who was very informative and thorough in preparing us for the tour and proudly showed us around his neighbourhood. We had a wonderful meal in a restaurant recommended by Carlos with a lovely young man from LA that we met on the tour. It finished it all off so nicely. Recommended!
Carlos, the local guide, was brilliant. He was fluent in English and incredibly well informed, not just about Rocinha, but the wider context too.
Great tour with Carlos. Informative and knowledgable about the favela. Would highly recommend to go on this tour
Our guy was very careful about us and taking care of the group.Super fun and informative
Having been born and bred and still living in the flavella, Carlos was the natural choice for this visit. The residents made us feel very welcome. Cannot recommend highly enough
Absolutely loved this tour.. Carlos was extremely welcoming and connected with each of us to share our cultures, backgrounds, learn about the history of Brasil and more. I loved every second I was really late due to issues with my uber and not only did Carlos help me arrive with the rest of the group, he ensured I got there safely and sound. I highly recommend!!!🧡🧡
The tour was absolutely wonderful—so much fun and incredibly informative. Carlos was an amazing guide who made the whole experience engaging and memorable. I felt very safe throughout the visit to the favela, and it was inspiring to see how strong and united the community is. Their sense of family, along with their own rules and structure, is something I deeply respect. I highly recommend booking with this tour company!
You have a quick overview of what to expect near the station gate A. Then catch a quick motorbike up to the top of the favela. It’s all down hill so it’s not a hard walk, but some of the steps are very steep and of different heights widths etc. there is a great view point where we stop and talk about the favela. The guide was local and knowledgeable.
Carlos was an excellent guide through the favela. He took great caution to make sure everyone on the tour was well taken care of and understood how to behave and respect the community. He took the time to answer our endless questions about growing up in the favela. We also enjoyed the motorbike taxi to the top. Highly recommend this tour and will take it again when back in Rio!
Interesting visit with a local guide. We learned interesting insights.
highly recommend. Carlos was super helpful and friendly guide.
A+ highly recommended. Great highlight of the trip and felt safe the entire time.
I had an incredible experience doing the Rocinha favela walking tour with our local guide, Alisson. This was honestly one of the most authentic and eye-opening tours I’ve ever done. Alisson clearly loves what he does, and it shows in every part of the tour. He grew up in Rocinha and knows the community deeply, so you’re not just hearing facts, you’re hearing real stories and perspectives from someone who truly lives the culture. What made this experience even more special is how personal it was. At one point Alisson even invited us into his own home. That’s something you will never get on a typical tour anywhere in the world. It made the whole experience feel genuine, welcoming, and unforgettable. Walking through Rocinha with him felt safe, respectful, and incredibly informative. You get to understand the history, daily life, and the strong community spirit that exists there, something you could never see just passing by. If you’re visiting Rio, I highly recommend doing this tour with Alisson. It’s not just a tour, it’s a real human experience you won’t find anywhere else.
Good experience with a local guide. The trip was safe, in a safe group, in a friendly environment. Provided a lot of information about the locals and their daily lives, answered the dominant questions. Recommend Too much information individually, quite a lot of time was spent in places where time could have been saved.
Nice walk with carlos, gave a lot of information about favelas. Perfect English. I surely recommend that guy.
Amazing experience. Carlos couldn’t have been a better guide. Felt very safe and gained a new perspective on life. Thank you Carlos <3
Great experience in Rocinha with a knowledgeable local guide. The tour was well organized, informative, and gave real insight into daily life in the favela. We felt safe and welcomed throughout. Thank you, Carlos highly recommended if you want to see a different side of Rio beyond the typical tourist spots.
The tour was very exciting. We started by taking moto-taxi up the favela with Carlos (our tour guide). Here he talked about the rules of the favela and we went up to a really nice rooftop where you can see most of the whole favela. Carlos told us some interesting facts about accessibility, infrastructure and life in the favela. From that point on we went down to the street where we took the moto-taxi. On the way we walked in the narrow alleyways in between the buildings of the favela. Eventually we got back down and here the tour ended. Carlos was really nice, good at english and funny. If I was to give any feedback as to what could have been better, I would probably say that I would have liked more checkpoints on the route with more information on history and specific information of different parts of the favela which could compliment the general information that we got. Would highly recommend
It was super good experience, we’ve learned a lot about the life in the favela. Carlos is genuinely great guide - really passionate and you can see he loves his job! Would recommend this tour 100%!
Big respect, amazing experience
Carlos was great! He was giving good intel about the reality of the favela and didn’t rush the tour.
It was a very interesting experience. Learned a lot about the neighborhood. Carlos was an excellent guy as he was born and raised here. Much better than just using any random Tour Guide.
Great experiencing what life is like around rocinha favelas, loved the roof top bar and the views from it and a lot of people are very friendly, Carlos was a great guide and highly recommend him if you get him
