The walking food tour was a brilliant way to spend five hours in Rio. Marcella was a perfect guide, knowledgeable, personable and full of fun. Her passion for food and meeting people to share her knowledge with was very impressive. The tour was comprehensive and a terrific introduction to the cuisine of the country. Highly recommended.

Itinerary
We start with a visit to a gorgeous, bustling street market full of beautiful produce - exotic fruits, street food stalls and everyday locals buying their groceries for the week. It's a brilliant way to start the tour - a good dose of authentic local culture and customs. You'll do an exotic fruit tasting and there'll also be classic market street food.
Next up you'll visit an authentic Amazonian restaurant. This is where homesick Amazonians who live in Rio go to get the things they miss from home - yummy crab claws, weird flavoured ice-creams, the best açaí in Rio and a few other surprises.
Heading north, you'll visit Lapa and a traditional Brazilian-Portuguese restaurant (opened in 1903). A sit-down meal with delicious fish and meat dishes (and plenty of drinks included).
We'll stop in at this beautiful old bar for drinks and snacks
Finally we'll visit a super cool 'hole in the wall' place which specialises in petiscos (kind of like Brazilian tapas) - there'll be beers, caipirinhas, loads of delicious light snacks. Often we'll spot off-duty chefs and food writers having their lunch here. And of course we'll finish with something sweet and delicious!

Wow! One of the best food tours we’ve done in any city anywhere. Maricela was an incredible guide, and the pace of the tour was perfect. Excellent variety of foods and locations, along with local history and perspective. We left happy, full, and a little inebriated. A perfect day in Rio.
We booked this tour as a group of 4 friends visiting Rio. Marcela was our amazing guide - she was full of life, lots of fun & super knowledgeable! She made sure everyone in the group was well looked after at all times. Food and drinks were amazing - such a cool way to try lots of different things and meet lovely people. Couldn’t recommend more!
Marcela our guide was great - such a fun, bubbly person who shared her passion for Brazilian food. We started off at the local food market and tried some fruits I've never seen before (all super yummy). The tapioca "pancake", acai berry bowl, lamb and dessert were all great. As were the Caipirinha cocktails. Marcela was amazing, organizing multiple taxi's for us when it started raining and thinking on her feet when we couldn't do what was planned due to some rain. I highly recommend Eat Rio food tours. Thank you to the team.
This is one of the best food tours I’ve taken! A fantastic mix of markets, local spots, and insider knowledge. Marcela was a terrific guide and Tom was very helpful from the very beginning! Would 10/10 recommend
We had an amazing time on our food tour with Marcela, she was a ball of energy and a font of knowledge on all things food and drink in Rio. Can’t recommend the tour highly enough, come hungry, leave stuffed and fully satisfied. Very reasonably priced, five hours of eating and drinking
What a fantastic experience and excellent professional tour guides. I had such a fun time, everything is covered and I ate plenty of food. The entire experience was several hours, and I met a lot of cool travelers. For me this is definitely one to add to your list! Photo is from a restaurant I was recommended by the guide! I went with two I met from the tour.
We had an absolutely fantastic food tour through Rio de Janeiro with Marcela as our guide—without a doubt one of the highlights of our trip. Marcela was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about Rio’s history, culture, and food. She took us to places we never would have discovered on our own, where we sampled an amazing variety of local fruits, traditional snacks, authentic Brazilian dishes, and delicious drinks. The tour was the perfect combination of food, culture, and local insight. Along the way, Marcela shared fascinating stories about Rio, explained the ingredients and traditions behind each tasting, and gave us a genuine glimpse into everyday Brazilian life. Everything was perfectly organized, the pace was relaxed, and the atmosphere was warm and enjoyable from start to finish. We left feeling full, inspired, and with a much deeper appreciation of Brazilian cuisine and culture. If you’re visiting Rio de Janeiro, we can’t recommend Marcela’s food tour highly enough. It’s an unforgettable experience and well deserving of five stars!
Went on the 5+ hour tour with my teenage daughter, and it was one of the true highlights of our trip. Gabriel was an awesome guide who led us through a food market with fruit tasting, açaí at an Amazonian restaurant, a Portuguese-style lunch, caipirinhas in various flavors, and a final snack plus dessert. I was worried about the hot Rio weather, but he made sure we stayed out of the sun. We had 9 people on our tour plus the guide. Would definitely recommend to a new Rio visitor. So much food - definitely was full at the end and glad I had only a light breakfast beforehand.
We found this tour through the show "Somebody feed Phil." Our experience was equally as wonderful - doing this tour (we had Gabriel, who was incredibly friendly and knowledgable) introduced us to the flavors and feel of Rio. We switched our whole itinerary after accordingly, following many of the recommendations we received and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The organization of the tour was handled very professionally: Tom made timely replies to my questions, and was very cordial throughout.
I took the daytime food tour with Marcela in December 2025, and it was fantastic! My first tour with Eat Rio was in 2017. I just went back to Rio this past December, and I had to go on another tour with them. They outdid themselves! I enjoyed all the stops in the tour, from the street market vendors to the historical restaurants we visited. Marcela had amazing insights about all the food and drinks; she was always on top of our needs, from the extra napkin to the extra cocktail. She was ready. And her sense of humor and love for the city were extremely contagious. I also checked the feijoada recommendations that Tom sends, and really enjoyed them. I can’t wait to go back to Rio and book yet another tour with Eat Rio!
My husband, son (11) and I absolutely loved Marcela’s food tour. We visited a wonderful and lively fruit market, local cafes/restaurants and tried dishes we never would have experienced otherwise. Marcela was really friendly, thoughtful and very accommodating of one person in our group being a vegetarian. Overall, it was an excellent way to experience another side of Rio and something we would happily recommend to our friends and family.
Our group was blown away by Marcela and the food tour! Having done more than 10 food tours across three continents, this tour is at the top of the list. We were a group of six with that many food allergies/restrictions which were accommodated. Marcela is passionate about the amazing foods and dishes of Rio and enthusiastically shared many of them with us. Come hungry and be prepared to experience dozens of the tastes making up Rio’s food scene. Truly the highlight of our time in Rio! We highly recommend the tour and Marcela.
We had a great time on the food tour with Marcella as our guide. We try and do food tours on the first day in a new place and this covered all the bases: lots of different things to try, a food market, classic dishes and random backstreet bars with even more random drinks! Marcella was awesome, talking about Brazilian food, wine and culture and tailoring some of the things we tried to the preferences of the group. The follow up email from Tom contained loads of useful information and suggestions of places to try in Rio and beyond.
We had the most amazing experience with Marcela on this tour. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was unreal, and the crowd size was perfect. Marcela's explanations were great, and we got to go to places we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a little taste of Rio!
We had Marcela as our guide and Gledson was our driver. It was a private tour and we had the most fun, immersive day. Far beyond our expectations, the food and drinks were out of this world, we were taken to places we would never have found on our own, places where the locals eat, drink, and live....soo good. Marcela was a bundle of energy and so attentive to our needs to make sure we had the best day. Gledson was a great driver and we always felt safe on the sometimes hectic roads of Rio. If I could would give them an 11 out of 10. An absolute must do in Rio
For our final full day in Rio we went on a brilliant food tour with Gabriel. The group of seven, two from the US and five from the UK gelled quickly over a love of food and travel. The street market, the Tacaca do Norte with its wonderful Acai, a great lunch with tender roast lamb, the different flavoured Caipirinhas and then sitting on seating in a quiet road close to the Cathedral munching on crispy pork belly pieces were just some of the highlights for us. We got to see parts of Rio we would never have had an opportunity to visit and meet some great people along the way. An absolute must do experience when in Rio.
We only had one free day in Rio, so after much debate decided to book this food tour, & OMG am so glad we did. Our guide was Gabriel & he was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. All the food we ate was incredibly tasty, from the fruit at the markets through to our delicious lunch. My only regret, is that we can't do it all over again.
We did this on our last night in Rio. The food and drinks were great. I loved seeing a new area and the vibes were great. We had Bindu as a guide who was amazing. I definitely recommend booking the food and bar tour.
One of the best food tours I've ever taken! And, I've done food tours across the U.S., Europe and Asia. Marcella was our tour guide. She is funny, smart and knowledgeable, simply an amazing guide and ambassador of Rio de Janeiro. She was so concerned that everyone had what they wanted, were happy and well taken care of. One of the tour group members had a fish allergy, and when we stopped for lunch, Marcella had arranged that the food she was served, wasn't fried since they fried fish in the same oil. What thoughtfulness!!! We stopped at places that I never would have found on my own. And, the last stop was amazing. We ate streetside with delicious food from three neighborhood restaurants. I was so full at the end of the tour, I didn't need to have dinner that night. If you're looking at other tours, you can stop, go with Eat Rio.
Our family spent a lovely day with Gabriel who shared his love of food in Rio. We got to try lots of different types of food and it was a great experience. For us, it could only have been improved by spending slightly less time in the market - but this is just personal taste.
Wonderful food and drink tour of Rio. Marcella was an excellent tour guide. Highlights were the Acai bowl, the oyster bar, and sitting in a street cafe (that was in a street!)
I go on a food tour every trip I take and this was hands down the best food tour I’ve been on! The flow, food and drinks were all excellent. Gabriel was a fantastic guide. You won’t leave feeling hungry!!
Sam was a great guide, with an encyclopedic knowledge of Brazilian and Portuguese food. He was friendly and talkative, always explaining not just the food but also the history and culture behind it. The only downside was that we were four adults and two children. The fresh fruit at the Food Market was fun, but then there were almost three hours before we finally got a plate of real food, toward 2:15 in the afternoon. The appetizers and drinks in between were small and not of interest to the kids. After those hours, they were very hungry, until they FINALLY could get a plate of french fries at the real restaurant. Even us adults were wondering, "Where's the food on this Food Tour?" The lunch, though, was fantastic, Portuguese lamb roasted to an incredible taste.
If you think a food tour in Rio sounds fun, choose EatRio! My partner and I joined a tour led by Marcella and absolutely loved it! We got to try foods that we never would have found on our own. Marcella was incredibly fun and knowledgeable — the best combination you can ask for in a tour guide. We followed recommendations from both Tom and Marcella for other nights out too and were very happy with the recommendations. And Tom was super engaged both before and after the tour — making sure we had the best experience in Rio possible. So, so glad we chose to do the food tour with EatRio!
What a wonderful food tour we had with Marcela. She was delightful! The group was a total of 7 and we enjoyed getting to know each other as Marcela took us on a grand tour through a market, then to a takeaway spot, sit down restaurant, a bar for drinks and finally down a non-touristy street where we sat in folding chairs on the curb and she brought us samples from several vendors. What a great way to get oriented to Rio and we learned so much. Marcela clearly changed up the selections based on the groups preferences and then later followed up with an email describing all the places we visited and what we had tasted. Top notch!
We had such a great time on the Daytime Food Tour. Our guide Gabriel was super friendly and knowledgeable, and gave us a real insight into the food culture in Rio. The group was also great, and we enjoyed everyone's company. We left very full having had a brilliant day! A final shout out to Tom, who couldn't have been more helpful when I enquired about the food tour. I'd recommend doing this tour soon after you arrive in Rio - it's a great way to familiarise yourself with the city, and following the tour Tom shares a follow up email full of amazing Rio recommendations which you could base the rest of your stay on. Thanks Gabriel and Tom!
My husband and I had a truly great introduction to Rio on our very first night there by joining the EatRio food tour in the Lapa neighborhood. Our guide Bindu was exceptional. She lived locally and took us to a number of eating and drinking spots which were each distinctive in atmosphere and offering. We felt safe and welcomed. There were five of us in our group (Including our guide) and I imagine the other couple enjoyed the chemistry as well. Bindu was nothing short of delightful. Thanks very much. We highly recommend this tour. Btw, we Ubered to and from the Lapa neighborhood from our hotel in Copacabana easily and without incident.
Our family of 4 did an evening bar food tour with Tom and Bindu. What an experience! We had a wonderful time visiting four different bars/restaurants and trying all kinds of traditional and exotic foods and drinks. Tom and Bindu were perfect hosts and we all enjoyed talking to them about lots of different topics. It was like having old friends showing you around their town. I highly recommend doing one of Tom's food tours in Rio!
This is a must do experience for anyone wanting to get a real taste of the local cuisine. Although it rained the day of our tour, it in no way dampened the mood (pardon the pun) and quite the contrary - it was the perfect way to spend a rainy day! Gabriel, our tour guide, was warm, friendly and knowledgeable and genuinely wanted to provide us with the best experience possible. We tried various fruits we had never even heard of, along with a variety of popular brazilian drinks and meals. We ate and drank until we could no more!
