This was a great way to see the Tijuca Forest! Especially for my 73 year old mom, there was some hiking but nothing too strenuous. Tamara was great and made the extra effort to make sure my mom wasn’t left behind and got the full experience.
May 2026 Couples If you plan on doing this tour, be aware that the activity provider may cancel on you last minute. We booked our tour with them months in advance, only to receive a message from them the day before that they didn't have anyone else booked by that point. At that point I asked them outright if they would cancel on us if they didn't get more reservations, and the reply was "In that case, we will only make your reservation if there are no other available options." Although the reply was a bit unclear, we assumed it would fine. I then got a message that evening from the manager saying they were canceling our tour. He said their policy is a minimum of five passengers, but on the Viator Website where we booked, hidden at the bottom of a drop-down link, all it says is "This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it's canceled because the minimum isn't met, you'll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund". The manager felt that was sufficient warning, but given the reply from his colleague earlier in the day, and the fact that I would have had to guess what their minimum was, I was unpleasantly surprised by the last-minute cancellation. As it was so last-minute, and our itinerary was too solidly booked to go at a different time, we ended up missing out on this experience altogether. We otherwise had a wonderful time in Rio and found all the tourist infrastructure well organized and accommodating, but our experience with Jeep Rio (a division of Bambu Tours) was sadly a disappointing exception.
Our tour guide was highly knowledgeable and helpful. Be prepared for gorgeous views. If visiting during the month on October, please make sure to bring a light jacket. Tempetures change becomes cooler from the coast into the deeper and higher elevations of the Tijuca Forrest. Hiking is very light, but make sure to use shoes that have tread for the trail. We were highly impressed with the tour and definitely recommend to anyone interested.
Go ahead and book it! Our experience was fantastic! We got picked up from our Airbnb and dropped off! You’re getting a jeep tour of Tijuca but you’re also technically getting a sightseeing tour of the city on your way to Tijuca, it’s very beautiful. Our tour guide was so informative and even allowed us to get off at a couple stops and take a walk around to see the waterfalls and other places. 10/10
An excellent tour! Our guide Silva was sensational. He had a wealth of information at every stop and gave equal time to passengers speaking different languages. We saw monkeys, waterfalls, and hiked through a jungle trail. There were several beautiful mountain views of the city, and it was just a bonus that the open-air jeep was a terrific way to take in more of the city to and from the Tijuca forest. Highly recommend!
Silva our guide knew his stuff.. it is not stressful and he arrived on time to pick us up.The environment was absolutely stunning
Wonderful tour with Silva. Great energy and very knowledgeable. You have to have good health because this hike is not for people with poor health/not fit. Would definitely recommend to people who love nature and hiking!
Silver was excellent host, definitely recommend it. Don’t forget to take mosquitoes repellent spray, highly recommended
We had SO much fun on this excursion! Was our last day in Rio and couldn’t have chosen a better way to end our trip. Our guide (also the owner) was friendly and funny and informative. Plus the ride through the city to get to the park was a bonus! Swimming at the waterfall also a highlight. Highly recommend.
Amazing tour. Silva was great. Super friendly, very informative. Loved riding through the city and the jungle in the jeep. Nice easy jungle walks too.
Sylva is a sensitive and engaging guide with a great sense of humor. Not a bad driver either. Our trip took us to several water features, great views, monkeys and tapirs and giant trees while learning about the National Park's flora and fauna. Brazil must have been a paradise when the forest covered the entire Atlantic Coast, and this trip helps us imagine those days.
The tour started with a very nice welcoming greeting and a great smile. It’s an interesting part of the city where you can see urban life blending in with the forest. You go up to 450m above sea level and have a breathtaking view from many different angles of the city. You can smell the forest, it is surrounded by jackfruit trees, and then head to the waterfalls. The first waterfall is not that impressive but after doing a 10 minutes hiking in the forest you’ll face an amazing pool of natural water running from the waterfall. You’ll climb a few rocks to go to another pool which is extremely worth seeing it. Silva is a helpful guide and knowledgeable with good recommendations and great English level.
Interesting, fun and insightful tour of Tijuca park. Silva, our guide, was absolutely amazing and authentic. It was very obvious that he has love and personal ties/experiences in the forest and he transferred a lot of his knowledge about the history and the culture over to us.I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone that enjoys nature and is interested in learning about the ecosystem of a rainforest and the history of Tijuca.
The guide was very friendly and gave us a lot of information about the tour. Wonderful experience for nature lovers.
It was an amazing experience. Evandro is a brilliant guide and he made the whole hike Fun for us. Unfortunately it was raining and we could not make the most of the hike and waterfalls but still it was an amazing experience. Highly recommended if anyone comes to Rio. Make sure you book this with tour with Bambui Tours
The weather was not great and Evandro offered me a refund if I wanted. I decided to press ahead anyway since it was my last day in Brazil. I had the benefit of a completely private tour since the only other guest decided to cancel! Evandro was warm and friendly and seemed knowledgeable. We managed to take some of the hike but as the rain came down it prevented us from completing it. Evandro explained he could no longer continue in a safe way (some parts of the route were rocky which become very slippery in wet weather). We opted to walk a little on an alternative route still through the forest but on the road that passes through it. The road was closed to traffic so this was pretty quiet and I enjoyed some more time chatting with him until I decided to call it a day as there's only so much rain that I can take!
Very nice hike amonng the jungle, not difficult, beautiful views, after hike you can chill and swim/slide on waterfalls. Guide was experienced with very good English, could not have better day at Tijuca!
The private tour of Tijuca Forest has to be one of my highlights of Brazil, and I'm glad I didn't attempt it myself. We took the tour at our own pace, which with a group tour, would have been hard for me to keep up. We stopped to see 2 waterfalls and enjoyed dipping our feet. He then took us to the infamous Vista Chinese where the view of Rio was just spectacular. As he was driving us home he was kind enough to stop in places so we could take more pictures of different views. He seemed to tailor the tour to what my aunt and I enjoyed the most, and that's what makes him a amazing tour guide. He also speaks very good English and is very knowledgeable about the whole of Rio. I will definelty use Bambui tours next time I visit Rio. And I have found a new friend in Evandro.
My husband, two teenagers and I went on an amazing hike in the Tijuca Forest with Evandro from Bambui Tours. It was a private tour which was great so that we could go at our own pace. He took us to places that we would have never found ourselves. The hike was quite beautiful and my kids loved it! We stopped at a few spots with small lagoons and waterfalls which were so refreshing in the heat. Then we were lucky to see a bunch of monkeys which made the tour even more worthwhile. Evandro then took us to the Vista Chinese which had a fabulous view. His English was great, he was extremely friendly, and he was able to tell us a lot about Rio and answer all of our questions. We were lucky that at the end he dropped us off at the beach in Ipanema where he suggested a great spot to watch the sunset and oh, was that gorgeous! I would definitely recommend Evandro and Bambui Tours to anyone visiting Rio.
Do not go alone or with a partner, you must go in a group and prepared for everything. In my trip I went up with 3 Frenchmen but on the way down I went ahead because they were slower Without realizing it, halfway through I got a guy asking me for my phone in bad ways and money. He started screaming and in two seconds he pulled the knife out, tried to threaten me. I told him he didn't try to nail me but I don't know how I took his arm and forgemas without falling to the ground which is what the very animal wanted. I started shouting help, help, thieves (in English and Spanish) and scadually 3 lords and one of them came up. tried to get closer, but he instantly turned to him, then the rest of us started screaming like crazy and the robber escaped in the brush. Infinite scare and I don’t know how I react like this, but in mobile nowadays we carry everything. It worked out fine, but I gambled my life, I was stupid.
Nice tour of the park! The very friendly tour guide was informed and engaged, you could learn a lot of new things. I would recommend the tour to anyone, the stops were great and it is fun to ride the jeep.
Vraiment notre meilleure expérience du séjour. Guide très sympa et humain qui partage de vrai moment de vie avec nous
Our excellent guide, perfectly fluent in Spanish, very good explanations about the jungle and its care, accompanied us on the climb
There was a change of time of the tour, due to Guia's personal problems and as we bought a "trail", we ended up walking by car for about 1:30, inside a Gol car, 2 doors with solar ceiling, arriving at Tijuca Forest: there were only 3 stops : a small waterfall, the Chinese view and the emperor's table. According to our guide the proposal would be of a private tour. After all, it was much less than expected, because we wanted to do a trail and not a motorized ride. It was a high cost. But, I leave here a compliment to the guide who passed us various information, however, this format of tour did not please us. Next time, I will ask for more details directly from the tour operator, since, just the description of the platform was not enough.
Une très bonne expérience. Une randonnée dans la nature très relaxante et reposante, loin de la foule des plages par des petits sentiers pédestres. Notre guide nous a bien expliqué plusieurs choses sur la forêt et a veillé à notre confort. Je recommande vivement
We visited on Saturday 14/12/19, me and my family. Fantastic place, with guided trails leaving Horto Forestal in the Botanical Garden, to the City Park. It is worth visiting and enjoying with the Micos Estrelas and the flight of the Tucanos, IMPERDÍVEL!
It rained all week in Rio de Janeiro, the day of the tour as we could not do it we offered to do it the next day, we accepted, the weather did not change, the responsible of the tour as a good opportunist came likewise saying that although the trail was slippery and dangerous we could see it outside and offered to go to the shopping go to the botanical and other places. That's NOT what we hired. We told him and he told us I spent gas to come to the hotel. We asked for a full refund a week ago and we are waiting for the response and return from Trip Advisor (they responded 5 to 7 days ago today). I think Trip Advisor and Viator UK would have to be careful with these types of people who make them look bad and take care of their customers.
Evandro, our excellent guide, first took us by car to a first waterfall. Then the hike began and we went up to swim in a small less frequented pool, under a waterfall, in the middle of the forest. It was beautiful! We then continued and saw several other basins, waterfalls,... Then he drove us to Vista Chinesa where we have an incredible view of Rio. Little bonus: two monkeys (macacos) came to greet us! Finally we climbed again by car higher, always to admire the beauty of the view, the forest, another monkey and a stone table that belonged to an emperor. Evandro gave us many historical explanations or about life in Rio, the fauna and flora of the forest,... and answered all our questions! I really recommend this hike! Additional information: there was a problem during our booking. Despite the tripadvisor confirmation, Bambui Tour had not had the confirmation of our reservation. Evandro reacted super fast and was able to offer us a private tour the same day. So do not hesitate to send an email or whatsapp confirmation message to Bambui Tour after receiving your email confirmation. Also know that sometimes hiking requires climbing. We are not great athletes or people who practice climbing and sometimes it was a bit difficult. But we managed and we were delighted with this hike!
