We booked a stay at this hotel and decided to extend for an additional night. After booking online we asked the receptionist if we needed to switch rooms or could stay in our current one. He assured us we could stay. The following day, we returned from lunch to find ourselves locked out of our room with all our belongings inside. After waiting over 30 minutes in line at the front desk, we were told we actually needed to change rooms. Despite the inconvenience, we packed everything up and moved without making a fuss. We checked into the new room and found it had no working AC. At that point we didn’t even want to deal with requesting another room change because getting assistance had already been such a hassle. We emailed the hotel about our experience and never received a response. On top of that check-in lines regularly take over 30 minutes, and you even have to wait in line to check out. For a four-star hotel the customer service is disappointing. The lack of communication, poor organization, and complete disregard for guest concerns made this a frustrating experience. We expected much better.

I spent almost a week at the hotel to attend a meeting. Starting with the nice part, the location at Barra is nice. The rooms are spacious. The rooftop pool has a beautiful view. But it basically stops there... Service is extremely slow for example checking in and out (count on a long wait for check out because they send someone to physically inspect your room which is the first time I see this). There is no coffee machine of any kind in the room and if you're attending a meeting all day long in a windowless room and jetlagged that would be nice and it is pretty much standard in any 4 star hotel in 2026, let alone in a country with excellent coffee! The room service food was very disappointing. You won't leave the breakfast hungry but the quality of the food is extremely average and bread is quite bad. The shampoo bottles in the bathroom are tiny and they don't leave shower gel. They leave one tiny bottle daily. First night I had two glasses in my room and from second night on, only one. Water bottles in the mini bar were inconsistently replaced. In summary: very below average for a 4 star hotel. Would never pass as anything above 3 in most international cities.
I don't understand the good reviews for this hotel/conference center. As a business traveler, this place is extremely disappointing. The good: The staff are very hard-working and generally pleasant. Breakfast is decent, the rooms are quiet and spacious, the elevators are reasonably fast. The bad: The check-in line was over an hour long. Room keys stop working for no reason. The first room that I was given had bed bugs. The room I was moved into has ants (I'm on the 13th floor). I'm trying to get work done after meetings and it is the fifth evening in a row that the Wi-Fi isn't working for me or any of my colleagues. I have spent hours trying to connect without success. I have reported the wifi issues to the front desk without the issue being resolved. Overall: This is a disappointing experience and I would recommend against staying at this hotel.
It would be nice to evaluate the room but we’re waiting in the queue to check in since half an hour. There is an online form to fill in personal information and the attendant at the desk apparently has to wait for the guests to fill in that form instead of being able to serve other guests. We’ve already done our check in earlier and only need to pick up our room cards…
Check-in was smooth, the staff were friendly, and the hotel was accommodating overall - also located near the beach (much calmer location compared to Copacabana or Ipanema). Though the beds were a bit uncomfortable and there was a small bed mix-up (which they fixed quickly), the real issue happened at checkout. The person checking us out was accusatory and aggressive, immediately believing the staff’s claim that we took minibar items(soda and candy). My parents, who don’t even consume soda or candy, were accused without discussion. We paid the small amount under pressure to catch a flight, but it wasn’t about the money—it was the principle. It’s a shame, because that was the only negative interaction we had.
