Truly amazing day with Helen touring the Rings of Kerry and Skellig. Helen was a veritable font of information about the region, Irish culture and heritage, and all the sites on the tour. Her ability to navigate and narrate were uncanny and she was a joy to travel with. Would highly recommend this tour and Helen’s services to get a real feel for the Dingle Peninsula.

Itinerary
Conor Pass rises 456 feet vertically from the sea, to serve as a passageway between the Sliabh Mish Range and Mount Brandon. It is Ireland's highest mountain road. This winding, alpine route offers breathtaking views for those brave enough to travel the precipitous road where Blackface Mountain sheep are more abundant than cars. The pass's summit offers breathtaking views of Brandon Bay to the north and Dingle Bay to the south. As we move on, the landscape transitions to a deep glacial cirque, dotted with magnificent alpine lakes and waterfalls. Many travellers skip this route because it is difficult, but with Mossie's Tours, you are free to sit back and enjoy the view.
Where the Dingle Peninsula meets the Atlantic Ocean, the Slea Head Drive winds and turns along the rocky shoreline. This 30 km (18m) stretch of the well-known Wild Atlantic Way has been hailed by National Geographic as one of the world's most picturesque locations. Sit back and let our skilled drivers take you along this breathtaking journey as you discover well-known sites like Ventry Beach, ancient ringforts, and beehive huts along with breath-taking vistas of the Blaskets and Skellig Islands. Even Hollywood could not withstand Slea Head's allure. Some of Hollywood's finest epic movies, such as Ryan's Daughter, Far and Away, and Star Wars, have used this region as their setting. Use Mossie's Tours to discover the ethereal beauty.
One of the most curious features of the Dingle Peninsula are the Fahan Beehive Huts. These drystone corbelled Iron Age huts derive their name from the unique shape of the building. The Fahan group are comprised of 19 subterranean and 18 standing clochans (beehive huts). Our guides will lead you through the inscribed stones, sculptured crosses, and earth ring forts. If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear our ancestors’ songs carried in the wind. And maybe if you are lucky, you can hold a baby lamb.
Local fisherman would bring their currach boats onto the rocks at Coumeenole's modest tidepool beach before climbing the incline to the dwellings beyond. That is, until 1968, when construction on the sets for Ryan's Daughter, the epic film by David Lean, started. To accommodate the camera, sound, and other filmmaking equipment, the lengthy boat ramp was enlarged and paved. Those improvements are still present today.
We will take a short break to stretch our legs before making the easy climb to Dunmore Head's summit, one of Europe's most westerly points. A lone Ogham stone, a relic from our distant past, watches over the sea from that location like a sentinel. Take a deep breath and look down at the spot where the Santa Maria de la Rosa and San Juan, two Spanish Armada ships, drowned in 1588. Possibly a pod of dolphins will surface while you are looking and poke their heads above the water.
Kilmalkedar is an early Norman ecclesiastical site and National Monument. The surviving church building was constructed in the mid-12th century and then extended around 1200AD. The grounds include the corbelled Hiberno-Romanesque church building, an alphabet stone, an ancient sundial, bullauns, and a Promise stone. Experience this amazing historical site with our knowledgeable guides so as not to miss a thing.

We spent a delightful day driving around Dingle with Helen of Mossie’s tours. She was so knowledgeable and personable, making the day quite enjoyable. There are many picturesque sights, as well as historical highlights, such as standing stones and beehive huts. The Slea Head Drive and the Gallarus Oratory, a 7th Century monastic site were favorites. The Blasket Island Center was so well done, and a great spot for lunch.
Helen guided my husband Steve and me on an incredible daylong tour of the Dingle Peninsula. Her knowledge of the landscape, its history and lore are far-reaching and her telling of it enchanting! She was generous with her time, and made us feel comfortable and welcome. She customized the tour in ways that were responsive to our special interests. In addition to all that, she made certain to help us capture great photos together in stunning locations. We can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our tour and time with Helen! We highly recommend booking a tour with Mossie’s Tours!
Our tour with Mossie was the highlight of our trip! We were all educated and entertained (ages 14-56)! The thoughtfulness and personal touches Mossie built in to our adventure made the experience extra special. Between identifying “the best” hot chocolate in Dingle, to having a laugh as a new member of our family, our day was unforgettable. Just when you thought you heard the best Mossie story of the day….he would tell you another. He was flexible, creative, adventuresome, and caring. Do. Not. Miss.
Mossie was our guide for a full-day tour of the Dingle Peninsula, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. His knowledge of Irish history is second to none, and his passion for sharing it made the tour both informative and enjoyable. He was also incredibly flexible and willing to customize the day based on our interests, which made the experience even more special. We never felt rushed and were able to spend extra time at the places that interested us most. We highly recommend Mossie to anyone looking to explore the Dingle Peninsula.
It pains me to have to admit that I’ve waited a year to write this review. Mossie deserves so much better. This was, without a doubt, one of the best and most enchanting days of our lives. The weather was so foul, but none of it mattered. Mossie opened our eyes to the beauty of it all and our minds to the historical context of it all. He is a treasure and a joy to spend time with. We’re already talking about returning and coaxing him into doing a full week around the country tour. I’ve told everyone who asks: if you’re going to Dingle, seek out no one else. It doesn’t get any better.
Mossie, Lori and I wanted to thank you for such a beautiful day. Your kindness and humor will stay with us for a lifetime. We truly felt we made a lifetime friend. Blessings to you and Helen, Brian and Lori Horn
It’s not an exaggeration to say that this incredible day we spent with Mossie was THE HIGHLIGHT of our entire wonderful week in Ireland. He took us to hidden gems we never would have had been able to see without him. His wealth of knowledge was only matched by his sense of humor and the passion he shares with his guests. We were entertained, fascinated, touched, and amazed by the experiences he related, the places he took us, and the scenery around us. His own memories lent a personal touch that we treasured and will never forget. Please be sure you include Mossie’s Tours in your trip to Ireland. There simply is no one better. Chef’s kiss.
The highlight of our wonderful trip to Ireland! Mossie knows everything about the area (geographically, historically, etc) and is very engaging and a great storyteller. Make sure he tells you about his own upbringing on a farm in the area. An extra kindness: I realized about an hour after our tour ended that I had left a shirt in the van. Mossie was kind enough to deliver it to us at the pub where we were having post-tour pints!
Mossie is the consummate guide, with very safe driving skills and an impressive knowledge base. Our day flew by as he catered our drive tour to our desires and physical capabilities. We could not have asked for more.
My wife, daughter, and I did a full day trip with Helen as our guide on the Dingle Peninsula this past July. Helen was a fabulous guide. She is a safe, concientious driver and she kindly picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Brandon. We wanted to see the captivating views on the coast, walk on a beach, and see some historical and archaeological sites, as well as visit the Blasket Centre museum, and we got to do all of that. Helen thoughtfully helped us decide what exactly to do and she was full of interesting information and stories. She was the perfect guide for us. Helen was very good with our daughter, who is 11 years old and loves animals, and helped us ensure that she had a good trip full of interesting adventures. The weather was cloudy and misty with some rain but that was what we were expecting and Helen took us to a sandy beach for a nice stroll during one of the relative dry periods of the day. My family and I are Americans who are proud of our Irish heritage and I'm grateful that Helen taught us so much about this part of Ireland and its natural environment, vibrant Gaeltacht culture, and long history, including how its people were affected by the Great Famine. I highly recommend Helen as a guide for anyone who is interested in a deep, immersive type of experience. I am fluent in Irish and I greatly enjoyed chatting as Gaeilge with Helen, who is a native Irish speaker from this area and a gifted conversationalist in Irish and English. To spend a day exploring this magnificent corner of the world with a kind, erudite local guide such as Helen was a once-in-a-lifetime type of experience for my family and I but we are planning on doing it again the next time we visit Ireland.
Mossie was an incredible tour guide. Loved having a tour with him as he grew up in the area and his first hand knowledge of the area and history added another level of an already great tour. We saw some incredible views, learned some interesting history and Mossie was one of the best tour guides we have ever had.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND the full day private tour of Slea Head and the Dingle Peninsula with Mossie’s Tours! It was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. In fact we did several tours and wished Mossie had been our guide for all of them! Mossie’s kindness, humor, knowledge, passion, historical insights, and personal stories of growing up and living there made it feel less like a tour and more like exploring the area with a local friend. Mossie tailored the stops to our interests and ensured we saw all the not-to-miss sights like Connor Pass, Coumeenoole Beach, Dun Chaoin Pier, the beehive huts, Gallarus Oratory, and the stunning views of the Irish countryside and coastal vistas along the Wild Atlantic Way. He even shared a few of his favorite hidden gems that we never would have seen on our own like a hike up to a glacial lake with a waterfall that was absolutely breathtaking. Other highlights included enjoying lunch with Mossie at a great local pub (which of course included a Guinness or two), holding a baby sheep, and he even arranged a special sheepdog demonstration that was amazing! More than just a tour, Mossie made this a very special and exceptional experience of a lifetime for our family that we’ll treasure forever.
Mossie is a fabulous tour guide. Absolutely fantastic. We spent a day with him as he showed us the Dingle Peninsula. He is knowledgeable, friendly, funny, charming, and incredibly helpful. He showed us the sights, gave us insights, picked up on things we were interested in, and kept sure entertained. One of the best and most enjoyable tours we’ve ever taken.
We had an incredible cultural tour of the Dingle Peninsula with Mossie, and I can’t recommend him highly enough! Our group of five, ranging from the early 20s to seniors, thoroughly enjoyed the day. Mossie picked us up promptly at 9:30 a.m. from our accommodations and kept us entertained and engaged well past 5 p.m. He has a wealth of knowledge about Dingle’s history, artifacts, and Irish history as a whole, which he shared with enthusiasm and passion. Along the way, he took us to breathtaking sights and fascinating historical sites, while also catering to our individual wishes—whether it was stopping to feed and pet lambs or ensuring we could step foot in the ocean before leaving Ireland. Mossie’s warmth, humour, and expertise made the day unforgettable. I will definitely look him up again when I return to Ireland. Highly recommended!
We can’t say enough positive things about our experience with Massie. We had two days with him, both of which he picked us up at our location and arrived promptly for us to depart. On our first day with him, our family of 6 (2 and 8 year old boys, my wife and I, and her parents) took off on an 8 hour adventure around the Ring of Kerry. The weather was unfortunately not the best that day and the trip was the same day as a bike race, but Mossie knew the area so well he was able to get us around the heavily trafficked areas of bikers. When driving he was engaging to all of us in the car, giving a history of the area, from its people to its soil, and the impact history has had on its people. He took us to epic views that we peaked through clouds to see and felt like we had experienced them all through Mossie’s descriptions, and he made sure we were well fed with stops at some of the best local fare we’d had and wonderful chocolate. On our second day through the Dingle Peninsula we got the long awaited family photos we’d been hoping for with the perfect Ireland backdrop. Mossie also took my wife and I up with our 8 year old to hike to a hidden lake and that’s the scene from this photo with Mossie and our son. Our fondest memories of this trip though will be getting to know Mossie, him sharing a couple of his songs with us, letting us feel connected to Ireland, and the kindness he shared with us. Can’t recommend him enough!
I'm already hoping for another tour with Helen on my next trip to Ireland! Communication was great from the get-go. I was planning a specialized two day tour that took us from Limerick, Dingle, Tralee and south to Gougane Barra. Helen took my wishes into planning each day including a private tour of a sheep dog demonstration (amazing!) and a stop at a ring fort. Since Helen is from the area, she knew all the places to go and the locals, too! We stopped for a quick lunch overlooking the Blasket Islands where we saw a nearby wedding taking place--it was such a great day! We also visited Killarney National Park including Torc Waterfall and also Muckross Abbey. We went south to a fairy stone circle and lunch in Kenmare. This two day tour was the highlight of our trip to Ireland. Highly recommend!
Amazing, personal tour around Conor Pass and Slea Head with Helen. Spent a whole day experiencing the hidden gems and hearing the history and legends about the area - we didn't want the day to end! Wonderful to leave the driving to a pro for one day and just be immersed in the area.... would do it again in a heartbeat!
The tour was wonderful. Great scenery of course, but so much more. Mossie is a font of Irish history and folklore. He is a local so knows the area. But he is also a world traveller and a scholar. The tour was interspersed with poems and songs as well as personal reminiscences. We strolled on beaches and clambered up a hill to an ice-age lake. It was truly a delightful day! In closing I would noothat Mossie was also the most accommodating guide we have ever had. We started with a stop at a laundromat and ended by picking up our clothes before driving to our B&B. We parted friends and hope to see each other again.
AMAZING! My 2 friends and I spent 1 full and 2 half days with Mossie and Helen and they were a highlight of our trip to Ireland. They are both so knowledgeable, interesting, fun, adventurous, accommodating, connected (they seemed to know everyone on the Dingle Peninsula), and they deeply love their country and its rich history. We learned a great deal about Ireland's past and present. We also went off the beaten path to explore and wander and wonder. We all consider Mossie and Helen our friends now and cannot recommend them enough you want a true, Irish experience and a whale of a great time.
This tour was a total highlight of our trip! From gorgeous stops to fascinating history, Mossie catered the drive to our interests and was the best guide we could hope for: funny, kind, and full of stories about the area. I’m so glad we took Mossie’s tour instead of driving Slea Head Drive ourselves. We wouldn’t have learned nearly as much - or had nearly as much fun! I also appreciated how easy Mossie and Helen made the planning process. The company communicated quickly, and we really appreciated the flexible start time! Mossie also gave great recommendations on what to do for the rest of our stay in Dingle and even gave some tips for the Ring of Kerry and Northern Ireland. I’d recommend this tour to anyone and everyone!
What a wonderful day spent with Mossie on our tour through Dingle! We were picked up from our BnB in Killarney and regaled with historical facts and funny anecdotes on the hour long drive to Dingle area. We visited Connors Pass and drove Slea Head Drive. We learned about the beehive huts and snuggled some baby lambs! All along the ride Mossie provided amazing commentary and answered all of our questions about the area. He catered the tour to our interests and took us to many historical ruins that we hadn't even heard of! By the end of the day we felt like we had made a new friend! If you're looking for a comfortable ride with a knowledgeable and charming guide, please book with Mossie.
Our guide Tony was full of history and knowledge of Ireland. He took us to beautiful beaches and museums and of course a couple of pubs. It was a ten of an experience!
We had a fantastic all day tour with Tony, filled with history and culture. Tony listened to our wishes and laid out a great itinerary. Very personable, filled with knowledge, and willing to answer all our questions. Highly recommend!
Fantastic day in the magical Dingle peninsula. Helen was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable about history, landscape, culture, and all things mystical in Dingle. This was my second visit here and I learned so much more about it and it enjoyed it even more with an experienced guide. She tailored the day to our interests and was patient and accommodating with my photographic impulses to stop (safely) on a dime so I could get the perfect shot! My partner and I both thoroughly enjoyed our day experiencing Dingle with Helen. It was a Perfect day! Will do it again! Thanks Helen!
BEST TOUR EVER!! seriously mossie is so kind and educated about the history of ireland. This is a MUST DO in dingle! Thank you Mossie and Helen for everything, i hope to see you again some day, and happy birthday Mossie.
My experience with Mossie’s Tours was nothing short of exceptional! Our guide, Mossie, was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. He went above and beyond to tailor the tour to our interests providing fascinating insights and anecdotes that brought the destination to life. The itinerary was perfectly balanced, offering a mix of iconic sights and hidden gems that we would never have discovered on our own. The transportation was very comfortable adding to the stress-free experience.I cannot recommend Mossie’s Tours enough.
My wife and I did the full day private tour of the Dingle peninsula with Helen. She was incredibly knowledgeable and kind and answered all of our questions and provided some excellent recommendations for places to eat, hear live music, and to include as part of the tour. She then customized the tour to fit our interests in the history and culture of the peninsula and took us to some truly beautiful and memorable locations - we did Conor Pass (thank goodness she was driving!) and visited the Dingle Crystal workshop and got to learn about the crystal making process. We also were able to visit a bronze age settlement and learn about medieval construction techniques! Plus, we also got to hold baby lambs, which is always a delight. Helen's expertise and knowledge of the area helped us avoid tourist traps and prioritize local gems that take pride in their community and allowed us to really experience Dingle. By the end of the tour, we knew we would have to return to Dingle and spend a much longer time in the town and go on yet another tour with Helen again in the future. We could not have been happier with the tour and we are truly grateful for everything Helen was able to do for us. 10/10 would highly highly recommend!
Husband and I enjoyed a full day with Helen touring the entire Dingle Peninsula. She was a wealth of information and was very accommodating with our preferences. We loved the variety of places and sites that we visited. From the circles, bee hive homes, coastline, and beaches, she had the inside scoop. It was one of the highlights of our 2 week long trip to Ireland.
Mossie's knowledge of the history, culture and people of this beautiful country led us to fall in love with the Dingle and Kerry peninsulas. He drove safely on the narrow, breathtaking roads and was sensitive to our mobility needs. He knew the short cuts and made sure we saw all that we wanted to see and more. Mossie was fun and engaging and had the best stories to tell. Mossie's 2 day, all day tours were the best way we could have begun our trip.
My wife and I, with another couple who were our trip companions, took each of Mossie's full days tours of the Dingle and Kerry peninsulas. I can't say enough about the quality of the experience. We'd heard about how good Mossie was from my brother. We were not disappointed. The mundane: Mossie's van was impeccably clean and late model. He was mic'd up so the couple in the back could hear his every word. He was on time. He welcomed questions. The exceptional: Mossie's command of Irish history is encyclopedic. His own experience growing up on a subsistence farm on the Dingle peninsula, speaking Gaelic exclusively until his tenure in the Irish Navy, teaching himself English, his world travels, his time as a touring vocalist singing traditional Gaelic ballads, his years as a tour guide all over Ireland, his involvement in the community issues of the day, his extensive contacts all over the island: These collectively give him a a deep well of knowledge to draw from. But delivery is everything, and boy does he deliver. He is sharp witted, quick with a gentle pun or a funny story, likely to break into song or a poem, unafraid to weave the difficult truths of a long Irish history into a hopeful and promising portrayal of the Ireland of today. He is energetic, warm and personable. Our small group came away with far more than we could have expected and an insight into and appreciation of Ireland that we will carry with us. The rest of our time in Ireland was seen in part through eyes trained by Mossie, something we greatly appreciated. Our tours with Mossie were exceptional.
My family had the great pleasure of spending the day with Mossie touring all the wonders that the Dingle Peninsula had to offer. In addition to the points of interest we had on our bucket list, we were able to experience special sites that would have been lost to us without his guidance and will be very special memories for us. Driving the coast is not for the faint of heart so having an expert at the wheel ensured that our whole family were able to soak in all the beauty in true comfort and security. Beyond the gorgeous scenery, we loved learning all about the fascinating history of Ireland. Mossie is a true expert on the heart and soul of Ireland and brought a wealth of knowledge that enriched our holiday and understanding of our historical roots. Our time with Mossie will definitely be one of the greatest highlights of our entire trip and we highly recommend his tour if you want an experience that goes above and beyond tourist attractions in Dingle.
My husband and I were very fortunate to find Mossie's Tour. He picked us up at our BnB and we knew immediately upon meeting him it was going to be a great day! He took us to so many spots we never would have found on our own. He had so much knowledge of the area and it was amazing how much we learned with him. He made the tour fun with his interesting stories. I would highly recommend Mossie!
I just can't say enough about Mossie and our March 26, 2024 Full Day Dingle Peninsula Tour! There were seven of us with ages ranging from 20's to 70's. He's a kind-hearted, informative, funny, accommodating, and engaging man with a fantastic voice! We all felt like he was part of our family by the day's end. Between the stories, the history, the songs and the conversations, Mossie (or his given name, Maurice, as my mom referred to him 😂), really set the bar high! He took us to Conor Pass, Slea Head Drive, the Beehive Huts where we held lambs, Famine Tour, Coumeenole Beach, Dunmore Head Walk, Gallarus Oratory, and Kilmalkedar. We even drove through the little village where he was born. He had a bluetooth headset so we could hear him through the vehicle audio which was a huge bonus for those in the back and/or hard of hearing. He picked us up at the Dingle Benners hotel and on our way back pointed out a few nice restaurants and pubs to go to for great pub food. I can honestly say this day was my absolute favorite of the 10 days in Ireland. I'd love to reserve the Spirit of Ireland tour with his wife Helen when I'm able to get back there. 100% recommend. Thanks Mossie, for a fantastic day!
This was the best tour experience I’ve ever had. Helen, Mossie’s wife, was incredibly responsive and friendly. Booking was easy. Mossie was on time, vehicle was spotless, and he immediately felt like family. Such a great guy, who is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his county and his countries history. Not only was the tour amazing, but we had many conversations about the rest of the country. He knows what stops have the best views, which ones to skip, and even took us to some of the map spots. I really can’t say enough good things about it. If you are looking for a private tour, look no further. I will continue to return to Mossie any time we are back on the island. I feel like I have an Irish uncle now.
If there’s a better tour, I’d be amazed. Mossie takes you on a journey that the tour books can’t touch. His knowledge of the Dingle area and Peninsula comes from living there. It’s not prescribed. He talks to you about your interests and then makes sure you have a great time. Even “officiated” at our vows renewal at Kilmalkedar church.
Touring with Mossie was a rich experience. We saw areas of Dingle that would have been missed, learned history we hadn't known, and visited places you wouldn't otherwise find when travelling on your own. It was a very personal and fun day traveling around the Dingle Peninsula and downtown areas. Mossie is a delightful and knowledgeable guide to spend the day with. We highly encourage it!
