Informative culinary experience. Meeting place central. Friendly guide. Sweet, savoury and some alcoholic drinks.
Baiba provided not only an excellent tour of the food market, but also the context to understand how it fits into Latvia's culinary history. The stops were well organized and most importantly tasty!
This was a fabulous tour due to our guide, Baiba. We were given a thorough introduction into the local cuisine and how other countries have influenced what Latvians eat today, then we were able to taste some of those foods. Great selection chosen by our guide and thoroughly tasty food!! Would highly recommend this tour to other travellers!
A really interesting overview of the culture of Latvian food and you really do get plenty of samples. The guide was really nice and helpful. The only thing that let this trip down was the amount of time our guide spent on waiting for people who were 20 minutes late. We're all on holiday and on limited time. I think they should just have to catch up.
Excellent guide Baiba gave us great history and food tour. Enjoyed it very much. Great food, beautiful market and interesting.
Well worth the time. The guide was energetic and informed about traditional and globally influenced foods in Latvia.
Well organized and informative. Our guide, Baaiba took the time to showcase both traditional and globally influenced foods. It was a comfortable walk, and very informative.
Biaba the guide eas great. lovly , nice a lot of knowledge
Baiba was a great tour guide who gave us lots of information on traditional Latin food and more modern Latin times. The tastes that we had were a nice sampling of the cuisine. I only wish we had had time to see more of the market. Note instead of a beer tasting like the description says you get sparkling wine.
The food tour was excellent, once we got on it. They changed the time and the meeting place without informing us. Biaba, the guide, was a grest host and very knowledgeable.
Zana was our local guide; walking through the market with her, you get plenty of explanations—and you really learn a lot without it feeling like a classroom lesson. It was simply fantastic; there were six of us adults, and everyone agreed that it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun without her.
Lots of delicious food. Baiba did a great job! Price point was excellent and my expectations were exceeded.
The guide Zane was excellent, her knowledge of Riga, the history of Latvia, food sourcing and preparation and her all round humour made the tour extremely enjoyable. The food was all cold (intentionally) and I would have enjoyed a couple of hot options, even one. The use of pollen and propolis was a reevaluation and I came home with plenty of these natural goodies. Well done Zane.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable however don’t go hungry. We were 50 minutes before we ever got any sort of food. I was far too hungry to complete the tour.
Baiba was a fabulous guide, really relaxed informative your, good OSCe and wide selection of foods and drinks to try, we have a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
Excellent excursion. Baba, our guide, was informative and provided great historical information.
My partner and I were a bit intimidated by how big the central market was so we were looking forward to doing a food tour and getting a real taste for Latvian food. Unfortunately this food tour left a lot to be desired. You don’t start at the market, we started like 700m away and our guide practically ran across big intersections to walk to the market. Once there she had a lot to say outside. We didn’t have the first tasting until 45 minutes into the tour. The way the tour is marketed you’d think you’d leave full and having gotten a good taste for Latvian food. That’s not true. We didn’t try many of the staples and our guide kept referencing things that we should try but weren’t going to try on the tour (like kvass, rye bread, farmers cheese, potato dishes, etc). The tastings we had were fine but the market stall owners didn’t really seem like they knew we were coming and my partner and I felt like we were in the way a lot. We tried: cold smoked chicken leg, black current black balsam, 2 kinds of fresh cheese, a few pesto type spreads, pickles, and then smoked fish on bread. Honestly I was underwhelmed and a bit sad because I love trying new foods in new places. The guide seemed a bit overwhelmed and for almost $40 per person I would’ve expected to walk away full!
What a great way to learn about Latvian food and culture. Our guide Zane did a more than welcoming and inviting job in teaching and wanting us to explore the market and food culture. The quality and variety of the foods and drinks offered where superb. I never enjoyed an Food Tour as much as this one.
Excellent food tour with Zane. Interesting and delicious . Lots of drfferent foods to taste and enjoy
Wonderful experience and excellent tour guide. We tried many types of food and generous sample sizes.
Colourful place with tasty experience. Our guide was perfectly navigating between market stalls and leading us from vodka to fish station.
Great way to see the market and taste food. Excellent value. Guide was knowledgeable! Could have been a bit shorter and efficient, but that also means we got “full value”.
The tour was for seven people, but one couple were given the wrong instructions, so it took time to locate them and the tour started late. The tour started but after 10 minutes in the market, the guide informed us that she had contacted the office to say she could not continue with the tour and to refund us our money. She then walked away. We were left bewildered and disapointed.
The wrong instructions were sent to two participants which mean't the tour started off late. After ten miniutes of walking through the market, the tour guide informed us she couldn't do the tour, and that we would be refunded. She then walked off. All very stressful and disappointing
First meeting place was changed without notice. Second Meeting time was changed without notice. Guide called and we met at the market. Things seemed okay but after second tasting she got mad at one of the tour canceled the tour and left us in the market with hope you enjoy the market on your own. We were all caught off guard and very disappointed. Not sure why it ended so abruptly. Ni explanation she just left.
Excellent tour. The guide, Guna, was excellent and the best reason to take this tour. She was both Informative and entertaining. And just the right amount of food and tastings.
Truly tasting a good variety of Latvian foods & drinks Also a good tour of Riga central market Riga central market is a must see!
Great way to get to know Riga and Latvia through authentic adventure at the market. Higly recommend.
The tour was outstanding with lots of food to taste and Unga was full of information on the Riga market. Don't need to eat ahead of the tour or you won't be able to taste everything. What a great way to experience local way of life. Highly recommend!
Guide was great, gave contex for each meal and drink. Also shined as someone who knows how to handle people when a group member decided to act like a child, she was able to get them to calm down and not ruin the trip. Can't recommend enough!
Very nice guide. Pleasant experience, tasty treats. Would have been nice with some more protein options and cooked items
Lots of fun food to try. Our guide was knowledgeable and cordial and managed to keep track of us in the busy market.
Very informative guide, lots of interesting food. Definitely worth the money! Our two teenagers even enjoyed it 😁
Recommended tour. We loved the market and the food and drinks provided. Our guide was well organised for the tour. LOVED the cheese and the peas dish the most!!
Would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Riga who wants to learn about Latvian food! Our guide was so nice and explained not only the significance of the foods we were trying, but she also pointed out other foods and explained how Latvians cooked with them and which foods they ate in which seasons.
Great fun. And a good way to taste things you would not usually taste. Everything looked neat and clean. Recommended!
Unfortunately I didn’t have the opportunity to do the tour. Myself and 5 others were waiting well before the appointed time at the designated meeting place. No one came. We tried calling and messaging the contact (who had already moved our tour back by 30m that morning). Eventually we had a response with a new meeting place 5minutes walk away. We all went but there was nobody waiting. After 40 minutes and numerous unanswered calls and messages, we gave up. Get Your Guide customer service is looking into this matter. We need our money back at the least. Still it won’t compensate us for the wasted time and anxiety we experienced.
A fun, informative walk through the very local market. Our guide, Baiba, was a delight. She was informative, adapted to her guests and attuned to our needs and made this a great way to enjoy our cruise ship visit to Riga.
This was very fun. Baiba made it incredibly enjoyable as well as educational. We loved the grey peas and smoked meat, the cheeses, strawberries, etc. A lot of food samples for the price. Highest recommendation. Very fun!
Great central food market tour in Riga. Delicious and authentic tastings of local and typical Latvian food. Guna was a fun and informative tour guide. Highlight of my stay in Riga.
Great way to get an understanding of Latvian food and to learn about the historical and current importance of the Riga Central Market. The size and scale of the market are unique and it should be a must see while in Riga. My tour with Baiba was a great learning and tasting experience. She’s a fantastic tour guide and extremely knowledgeable about Latvian food and culture. I highly recommend doing this tour.
No your on first Monday of month. Why did we not hear this till that morning? We booked this long ago and they should not have shown the day available. It was only cancelled the same morning and we had no time to do it the next days. We could have gone the day before if we knew.
We had a very good experience, it is worth doing!
The operator issues tickets for canceled trips. This is very unprofessional and confusing for guests.
What an experience of the market itself! Riga central market is worth visiting, observing and enjoying. Coming here on your own will be good, but being part of this particular tour even better. We visited many local stall, got clear suggestion how to shop and what to pick and met some nice people in the group too.
I had a fantastic experience on this Latvian food tasting tour at Riga Central Market. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Latvian culture and traditional food. We tasted a wide variety of local specialties including smoked fish, cheeses, rye bread, pickled vegetables, sweets, and local drinks.
Definitely book this tour! It was one of the highlights of our Riga trip as people who enjoy trying local food everywhere we go.
We had really good time with Guna and local food tastings at Riga Central market. Must do tour in Riga, a lot of information, tasty food and all in all a positive experience!
Unfortunately our trip was cancelled on the day. Our booking was for 12.30, we had received a WhatsApp reminder the day before then went to the meeting point 15 minutes before the start time. 30 minutes despite no further WhatsApp, my husband happened to check the emails and noted it had been cancelled at 11am that morning. It would have been more helpful to stick to one form of communication and that would have prevented us tailoring our morning and waiting around for 30 minutes. We understand things get cancelled but better communication would have been more helpful.
