The hotel is in a very convenient location, a short walk from the railway and bus stations, with a shopping centre nearby. The historic centre is also within walking distance. Our room overlooked a side street and traffic noise did not disturb us at night. The room itself was quite decent, but the rug on the floor should be replaced or removed, because one corner was curled up, and it was easy to trip over it. There was some mould around the edges of the bathtub. On one occasion during our stay, we could also hear our neighbours talking. We really enjoyed the breakfast. There was a good selection of dishes, and the pancakes, salmon and sprats were particularly delicious. There was a strange squeaking noise in the room that made it difficult to sleep. We never figured out where it was coming from, but it disappeared when we removed the key card from the special holder that controls the electricity in the room. So we left the room without electricity overnight, but at least we were able to sleep peacefully

Very poor experience. The AC does not work properly. I changed rooms because of the issue, but the new room is still very hot and stuffy, with barely any airflow from the AC vents. I have two other friends staying at this hotel who are experiencing similar problems with their rooms. The cleanliness is also disappointing. I noticed stains on the desk, floor, and in the bathroom. Fridge has this stale sausage smell. Gym is very small and dirty. Looks like one from 1980s. Overall, the hotel feels poorly maintained and does not meet the standard I would expect. I honestly wouldn’t even consider this a two-star hotel. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend staying here.
Three night stay mid-August. It's difficult to give an opinion about this hotel, but as always I will be as honest as possible. The hotel doesn't give the Mercure "feel" I experienced in other Mercure Hotels in Poland and Estonia. It's located in a building from 1901, which apparently also was the last year someone cleaned the windows. Both the room and the bathroom could use a renovation, but they were spacious and clean. Positive aspects were the minibar that could be used as a fridge, the very nice rain shower and the heated mirror that prevented fogging. The location of the hotel is excellent, being next to a shopping centre (with supermarket) and very close to the trainstation and Abrenes Iela Busstation. The climate control unit has the same purpose as elections in the Netherlands: to give you the illusion of control. Whatever temperature you select, it sets itself back to a preset temperature shortly after. I mentioned this to the reception twice, and they said they would take it seriously, but of course they don't. Thankfully the window could be opened and the weather wasn't too hot at the time. The first night, I had great fun working out the light switches at 3:00am :) The switches on the right side of the bed didn't work, but these bedlights could be controlled by the switches on the left side of the bed, unless you operated one switch at the entrance of the room which precisely turned that around :) Weird but unintentionally funny. The rooms aren't cleaned everyday, but once every two nights (unless you used the "clean my room"-tag). I hadn't experienced this before. And even that went wrong: when I got back to the hotel after the second day still nothing was done in my room. I had to go to the reception to get fresh towels and toilet paper to "survive" my stay. A "sorry" would have been nice. Breakfast was great with lots of choices. Only point of criticism is that they quickly ran out of glasses so everybody needed to use paper cups, but that's just a minor thing: I had a great start of my day. Coming from a country in "The South" (Holland haha), I'm used to people being much more spontaneous, talkative and expressive. From our point of view, some Latvian people look at you like they're going to kill you in your sleep, and unfortunately that also applies to some of the hotel staff. In my opinion, a smile would make a big difference. But maybe we are considered loud and boorish from a Latvian point of view (I hope not). And most importantly: Riga is a VERY beautiful, clean and safe city, while in Amsterdam you actually DO get killed in the streets :) So yeah, it's very nice to be in Latvia, and I'm sure I'll come back once. I'm just not sure yet if I choose the same hotel.
★★★★★ Excellent Business Stay in Riga I stayed at Mercure Riga Centre Hotel during a business trip to Latvia, and overall, I had a very positive experience. I was also impressed by the hotel's customer service. Although I experienced a technical issue with my room, the Management Team reacted professionally and courteously once the matter was reported. Their willingness to listen, investigate the issue, and provide a prompt solution demonstrated a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction. Overall, Mercure Riga Centre Hotel is a very good choice for visitors to Riga, combining a great location, quality service, and a strong commitment to guest care.
We are extremely disappointed with our experience with this hotel. Despite having a prior agreement and confirmed arrangements, the hotel cancelled our stay at the very last moment without offering any acceptable solution. Our group consisted of more than 30 people, and because of the hotel’s irresponsible behavior, we were forced to urgently search for alternative accommodation. This caused unnecessary stress, additional expenses, and serious inconvenience for everyone involved. A hotel that cannot honor its commitments and leaves large groups stranded without warning demonstrates a complete lack of professionalism and respect for its guests. We would strongly advise others to think twice before trusting this property with their booking.
