Hilton Garden Inn Riga Old Town

Overall, my three-night stay was good. I chose this hotel because of its location. Three of the major attractions I wanted to see were with walking distance. This became important as it rained throughout my visit. My standard King room was adequate size. It was clean, had a mini fridge and tea pot. Bathroom and shower were a nice size, though water pressure was a bit disappointing. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase. Not much in regard to a wardrobe, so if staying longer than three days, you will live out of a suitcase. Not many amenities in the room like robe or slippers. There is soap and lotion, but no shower cap or dental kit. Wi-fi worked well. Breakfast is okay if included in rate. It is repetitive, but you can mix it up. Dinner in the restaurant was good. Customer service was good. Nice check in and was provided a city map to help me navigate the city.

Extremely disappointing experience — undisclosed €100 "deposit" that still hasn't been refunded. Only location is excellent in this Hilton hotel. I stayed at this property in Riga with my room and breakfast fully prepaid in advance. Despite that, at check-in the hotel charged an additional €100 hold on my card. When I asked why, I was told this amount was meant to cover potential purchases at the hotel. I never asked for this, never agreed to it, and I don't understand why a hotel should assume I need €100 available "just in case" I decide to buy something on-site. For Latvia, that is not a small amount, and for some guests it could easily be their last available funds. What made this far worse was checkout. Instead of releasing the hold immediately, staff told me they first needed to "check the room" before returning the money. I had to insist on an immediate cancellation of the transaction and asked for written confirmation that the funds were released. It has now been 5 days since that cancellation was supposedly processed, and the €100 still has not been returned to my account!!!! I can only imagine how many guests simply forget about this charge, assuming it will "sort itself out," because most people don't want the hassle of calling their bank to dispute it. Whether intentional or not, this practice feels predatory and completely unacceptable for a hotel of this brand. I will not be returning to this property, and I'd strongly encourage others to ask about hidden holds before booking.

We were delighted with our 5 day stay here in August. The location is perfect for sightseeing. It’s right next to the old town as well as a ten minute walk to the central station. We honestly couldn’t pick a better location. Our room was clean, comfortable and modern. Once we figured out the thermostat the air conditioning worked very well. (A bonus!) There was some street noise in the evenings over the weekend but I turned in a white noise app and slept well. Internet speed was very good and I had no trouble working online as needed. Water pressure and temperature in the shower were both good. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection and the option of made to order omelets. I loved the cottage cheese pancakes. Our weather was good so we sat outside for breakfast a few times. Just lovely. Another bonus is the free washer and dryer for laundry. I have traveled a lot in Europe recently and don’t think I’ve seen that elsewhere. We used the gym a couple of times but mainly got our exercise by walking out our door into the charming old town. Finally the staff were all friendly and helpful. We appreciated their help with our questions - including my frequent requests for a glass of ice. :) I will stay here again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic property. Absolutely amazing location right in the heart of Riga’s old town. Rooms are well designed, comfortably sized, with nice modern bathrooms. AC is impeccable which is quite rare but very well appreciated in Europe. It will actually get the room to your desired temperature quickly which is great for those of us that like to sleep cold. Staff were all lovely as well. Only minor complaint is the breakfast, the quality and variety was not the best. Overall a great stay and I’ll definitely choose this hotel next time I’m in Riga.
