Great chef/instructor! He kept it fun from beginning to end! From the trip to the market, prep, cooking, and finally eating all was a blast!

We loved everything about this - beginning with shopping for produce at the St.Antoine market to Chef Thierry's very detailed instructions on how to make Chicken Bourguignon, mushroom ragu and 2 kinds of tarts. It was a small group (6 people), lots of laughter and serious discussions about how to prepare a delicious meal. Marianne and Peter Lyhne (Ft. Lauderdale, USA)
Very pleasurable experience. Chef was knowledgeable and engaging. Eating lunch after preparing allowed us to interact with the chef and other students. Wonderful food and conversation.
Informative market tour just across the Saône--lovely bakery and beautiful produce. The cooking class was great! We learned a lot and Thierry was a great teacher. VERY delicious lunch.
Taken advantage of. Nice people but… the chef was busy that day preparing food for a birthday party. He had a substitute lady fill in that told us she had only taught once before. She was not a chef. Nice lady but it was disorganized and unclear what we were doing. We had to ask a couple times what we were actually making. The chef was there in the facility and gave intermittent input to the “fill in”. It would have been better if we knew from the start what items we would be cooking that day. Going to the market was just us following them around while they bought the items. Since we didn’t know what we were making it obviously was less than ideal. Very little interaction in the market or education. The amount we paid for the three of us to take the class was over a thousand euros. Almost 1300 dollars our cost. I feel that the chef just took our money and popped in a substitute to be able to take the money. It was obvious that he just should not have booked a class if he was otherwise occupied. We were not informed of any of the changes prior and we would not have booked if we had been. That was a lot of money for the experience that we were given. Not worth it.
It is an excellent class with fantastic chef Terrie. We went to a small market on the river bank to pick up freshest veggies. Then, we started with disassembling chicken for three different dishes, fortifying ourselves with good wine. We did soup, chicken breast sou-vide, and chicken with veggies and mushrooms. In parallel we did a praline cookies and a praline tart. Finally, we have a lovely lunch. Through all these steps, Terrie was exceptionally, friendly, funny, and personable. This was our may be tenth cooking class in various trips around the world and in our experience the best and the most instructive.
If you like to cook or eat, this is a not-to-be-missed experience! From the market shopping to the prep to the cooking to the eating, it was a wonderfully organized event by the chef. Well worth the cost for this unique experience. We'd do it again, for sure!
Chef Thierry was outstanding! Took us shopping first to get produce for the meal - prepped vegetables when we got back to studio. Then he taught us how to debone a chicken - each pairing got one chicken - we then prepped two chicken dishes - mustard chicken and tarragon, mushroom chicken - then we made pastry dough and 2 apricot almond peach tortes. While everything was cooking and baking we made cookies with the excess pastry dough and then a cold pea soup with a trace of cream
Chef and his class was a major highlight of our trip to Lyon. We learned a lot and he was patient with my poor knife skills. Will absolutely recommend this class.
Thierry designed a very approachable menu for the beginner chef. No technique goes unexplained, and he is always there to swoop in if things look a little off. We made quenelles after touring the market and picking up fresh produce, but things grew to a full 5 course meal over the course of the market tour. Thierry has a ton of experience in a wide variety of cooking environments, I highly encourage you to ask him targeted questions to get the full history and reason why you do certain things in french cooking (he is a dictionary of French cooking, but will focus on the practical matters in class unless you ask). Highly recommend, also took his pastry class.
This is the ultimate foodie dream experience! Going to the market and step by step instructions by the AMAZING Chef Theirry!! Wow then you get to eat your creation! My husband and I had the best time and have been talking about it ever since! We thought we knew how to break down a chicken… nope! Now we do thanks to Chef! Learning about Lyon and why it’s so special was a bonus! We highly recommend taking time to dip in the authentic Lyon experience with a wonderful human and master Chef! Thank you!
We were enthralled by our wonderful experience with the Chef and his studio. First we visited the open air market and selected vegetables for the cooking session. As a part of the market experience, Chef provided us with details of each of the merchants and their specialties. In the studio, we sectioned and boned a chicken, prepared a ratatouille, started a chicken stock, cooked the chicken in ratatouille, prepared a dessert, and then shared the lunch with the Chef. During the preparation, we learned about many techniques and traditions of the city, as well as the difficulties of finding trained restaurant workers in Lyon. If you have the time and opportunity, this is a mini-boot camp for cooks.
My husband surprised me with a cooking experience with Chef Thierry for my birthday. It was supposed to be a couple's session, but the others cancelled so we had his full attention, and what a treat this was!! Chef was punctual, detailed, funny and instructive as we made chicken stock (with hay and shallot skins!!), chicken with mushroom sauce, gougeres and pink praline tarte. Farmer's market visit was entertaining as he provided insightful Lyon tidbits that added context to our visit. We both practiced chicken cutting techniques that would eventually yield delectable and elegant finished product presentations. If you like to cook this is for you.
Such a fun experience. Thierry was a gracious host and gave us a lot of local insight as well as instruction on an amazing meal. Would highly recommend! Come hungry and ready for fun!
Wow! It was superb. Chef Terry makes cooking fun. The market tour was a very enjoyable learning experience. it was the perfect opportunity to become acquainted with each other, as well as learn about the market. The cooking experience in the kitchen was informative, as well as entertaining.
We had a wonderful time with Chef. The experience was very hands on, but also done to accommodate all levels of skill. I was there with two teenagers, who were put to work with fun activities, but those that better met their abilities-including making us two wonderful tartes. Chef was extremely kind and shared a lot of information about Lyon, but also tricks to French cooking. And of course the meal at the end was equally great. While the experience may look expensive, when you factor in 4 full hours of activity, learning, fun, and great food it is well worth the investment!
Outstanding experience! Incredible! They should really speak more about the cultural learning that is orchestrated through the adept teaching competence of the chef. And - he is really funny!!!
What a wonderful way to spend a morning! Chef Thierry is great teacher and host. We learned many techniques and ended with a delicious lunch. Highly recommend this class!
Chief Thierry’s vast teaching experience really really shows in this class as you make an appetizer, soup, entree and dessert along with a visit first to the outdoor Saint Antoine market. Awesome experience and a must-do in Lyon.

Chef Thierry is a force of nature in the kitchen! We started our morning by walking to the local outdoor markets and choosing the freshest produce, cheese and poultry of the day for our market day cooking class. We stopped by the local boulangerie to select breads and to share croissants and cafe! We enjoyed local a cheese selection and education, which was paired with wine and bread (a nice tea for those who don’t drink wine). We were taught the best way to cut a hen. We prepared two chicken dishes - one a mustard cream base and the other a vinegar base. We also made crepe/pancake topped with a savory mushroom mixture. And two desserts; a Lyon praline tart and a fresh fig tart. And finally, we made a brioche bread product! So delicious and delicate. It was such a great experience. We enjoyed meeting others. Chef Thierry teaches many other classes. But I loved the length and depth of the market cooking class. He made the experience by his good humor and in-depth knowledge. Merci Beaucoup Chef!
What a fabulous day! Starting at a busy local market with amazing offerings then to the kitchen class for a local cheese tour then to cooking with Thierry. He was instructive and much fun! We then ate our three course meal together and also got lots of local lore from Thierry. A really wonderful day in Lyon.
Planning our first trip to Lyon, my husband and I wanted to learn about Lyonnaise cuisine from an expert. This tour exceeded our expectations. We met at Chef Tierry’s charming cooking studio (atelier) and went on a tour of the beautiful Lyon produce and cheese market. Ina Garten would surely swoon over this place! Back at the studio, Thierry educated us on the impact of cheese production and aging (tasting samples as we learned). We then made delicious French dishes from scratch including Coq au vin, a praline tart, and Lyonnaise desert pastries. Best of all, we enjoyed our meal with Cote du Rhône and chatted about Thierry’s experience as a chef and restauranteur. Thierry is an excellent and entertaining educator and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Highly recommend!
Everything about this experience was perfect. Chef was fun as well as informed about food, culture AND history. We enjoyed every element—the location, the tour, the company, the cooking and of course, the wine and meal!!
Had a wonderful experience with Chef. He was engaging, informative and an incredible cook. We loved every minute. Highly recommend.
The market shopping and private cooking class were exceptional experiences. The menu choices, preparation and instruction from Thierry were fantastic.
Chef Thierry was amazing! We had such a great experience in Lyon cooking with him! We started off with walking over to a local farmers market together and picking out fresh ingredients for our recipes. Then we heading back to the cooking location, ate some cheese with wine and began to prep our food and cook! Chef Thierry was very kind and helpful as we are not the most experienced cooks. After we made all 3 courses we were able to sit down and enjoy the delicious meal together and learn more about Chef. Overall it was an outstanding experience and we are very glad to have chosen to do this during our time in Lyon!
Excellent experience! The visit to the market was really interesting, with lots of discoveries and good advice. The chef was very friendly and brought a touch of humor that made the moment even more enjoyable. I recommend without hesitation!
Despite losing (partly) a loved one to me (my friend's finger), the experience was fantastic. A chef full of charisma who knows how to take care of his customers while putting them in their place when it comes to sprinkling anecdotes about Lyon, what more can you ask for?
