During this two-hour food walk on the Croix-Rousse plateau, your sommelier helps you experience the neighborhood like a local: you taste and learn rather than simply sightsee. We meet at the Gros Caillou for a panoramic view over the city, then cross Place de la Croix-Rousse and the Grande Rue, the village's old shopping street. Along the way, your sommelier introduces each Lyonnais specialty as you taste it and tells you the story of the neighborhood's former inhabitants, the Canuts, Lyon's silk weavers. We choose our charcuterie at the butcher's, taste the famous pink praline at Maison Pralus and select our cheeses at the cheese shop, slipping away from the main street through the plateau's quiet backstreets. The experience ends at Cave Tabareau with a genuine wine workshop, where you'll learn to look at, smell and taste a selection of Rhône Valley wines, understand their terroir and pair them with the products gathered along the way. We had a great time with Louis, who made a wonderful selection of cheese, charcuterie and wine. It was just the two of us and Louis. He's very knowledgeable and really took the time to explain the local specialties. We learned a lot about how to pair them all without getting too technical. We really recommend this experience :)
This is truly a “local” experience. From the butcher to the baker to the cheese store, all local to the region. Then to pair it with some incredible wines. With a true Sommelier as your guide, it was a wonderful afternoon of knowledge & a flavorful treat. Highly recommend
Our tour guide and new friend, Louis, was exceptional! Saying he was knowledgeable is an understatement. He walked us through local routes of Lyon, explaining the history and also local cultural information. He was incredibly personable, walked with our pace, and made us feel immersed. He guided us to the best fromagerie and butcher shop, where he selected the most popular choices and he also asked us our preferences as well. We ended up at the most beautifully intimate cellar where we enjoyed our charcuterie. Louis walked us through how to pair specific wines with certain cheeses, he is a true sommelier! We ended up leaving with full bellies, full hearts, and a grocery bag full of wine and other goodies. We would come back to Lyon, just to do this tour again! 10/10 experience!
Our tour guide, Louis, was seriously the best. He was so informed of the ins and outs of Lyon. He took us to places that weren’t so crowded and we ended the tour with an intimate charcuterie and wine pairing experience. I reccommend you book this tour immediately! Louis was amazing! From the walk through the city and thorough explanations of its history, to showing us its boutique and special gastronomy throughout - it was so special. We were then educated about wine and how to pair it with the selected foods. He was so knowledgeable and we found it so easy to learn and understand the information he presented. If you are visiting Lyon, this is worth your time and money if you’re looking for something that is dedicated to the city and its history - but without the tourist traps! This tour with Louis was a truly eye opening experience! We had already attended various wine tastings before this experience but no one has ever managed to explain the food and wine pairing as well as Louis! And he did so in a very casual, easy to understand way. The food was very well chosen and we also had the opportunity to choose the cheese and meat products of our liking. We will be back in a couple of years to see how Louis develops his business further - his passion for wine and food is really admirable.
A really unique experience! This private tour teaches you how to correctly pair your wines with meat and cheese. Louis had impressive knowledge and able to answer all our questions.
