We were the only couple with Oliver, our guide, so we really had a personalized visit. The variety of food was great - typical Lyonnaise food, plus a few surprises. All was delicious and we enjoyed the tour.

Sonia was a perfect guide, knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions for other things to do in Lyon. Les Halles is unbelievable
Fabulous tour of the Les Halles Paul Bocuse markets with Sonia. Very informative and lots of delicious tastings. Highly recommend!
Avoid booking with Original Food Tours. They did not contact me to say they needed to rebook me. There was an Original Food Tour guide and a couple at my meeting point so I approached them. The guide called the office and said I could not join the tour as it was private. Meanwhile, they have charged me fully and sent reminders that I should meet my tour. The couple graciously said they did not mind me joining the tour, but the company would not make that work. I understand the that tastings are arranged for 2 people rather than 3, but the guide also would not only not accommodate me, but also would not recommend anything in the market to me. She made me feel as I were the one making the situation awkward, when I was the one who showed up for my tour with her company at the appointed time. They charged me for the tour, mind you, and sent no sort of cancellation via email, phone, or Viator message. Just avoid them or you will end up fighting to get your money back like I am going to have to do. What a poor company- go elsewhere!!
We just had a wonderful tour with Helen from Original Food Tours. The Les Halles Paul Bocuse is an experience. Helen did a fantastic job of explaining the place and restaurants in the hall. We learned a lot about how Lyon became such a rich place in food, wine, and restaurants. Very interesting on learning about the Michelin stars and restaurants here that have earned their stars. We filled out the form we received before our tour was to begin which helped Helen know are likes and dislikes. She offered foods to us that she thought we would enjoy trying and did not force items we would not. Which we really appreciated. Everything we tried was very good and we enjoyed learning the difference especially in chocolate. We had a very enjoyable time with Helen and learning about Lyon and the love for food there. Would highly recommend the business and Helen as a guide.
Unfortunately l did not have a chance to experience this tour as it was cancelled late the night before. They offered the following day but l was leaving Lyon. I accepted a place for the old town food tour, however was quite disappointed.
Helen was very knowledgeable and great company. That was more than enough words to express how good she was any more would just be rubbish.
Helen was a fabulous guide. She provided great explanations and historical context for the things we sampled. We had a great morning exploring Les Halles and enjoying the delicacies of Lyon. Highly recommend!
Helen was a fabulous tour guide. We had a great time. Six of us had a great experience and tried many new foods. We tried seven different foods and had wine at a couple also.
Tour Guide was a No Show! We contacted the guide using the app twice and received no response. We arrived at 9:45 and waited until 10:15. Now trying to get refund for tour. Local tour company is incompetent!
It was a wonderful tour. Helen was very knowledgeable providing exactly what we expected to guide us through Les Halles
Amazing!! Our guide Helen was fantastic! Her knowledge of the history and the food made it a very meaningful experience! Not to mention delicious samplings and awesome displays of food. Helen made it very worthwhile!
They cancelled and offered a Paris tour - still have not refunded money after three days - will have to contest through credit card
Catherine our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the food and the architecture of France. She made this experience very enjoyable.
Well worth taking this tour! Very good and knowledgeable guides! The food samples and tastings were incredible.
Our Food Market Tour of Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse was an enjoyable experience. Our guide with Original Food Tours was friendly, knowledgeable, and very considerate of my nine-year-old granddaughter. It was interesting to learn some of the historical background that created Lyon’s reputation for fine food. I was unfamiliar with the Mères Lyonnaises “Mothers of Lyon French Gastronomy,” which included the legendary female chef Eugénie Brazier who gave Paul Bocuse his start. We had samples of cheese, cured deli meat, macaroons, oysters, bread, desserts, chocolate, and (of course) wine and champagne. I especially had fun watching my granddaughter eat her first raw oyster. I agree with another post that said it was almost too much food for one tour, and I generally don’t have that much wine and champagne before lunch. I would highly recommend this food tour for anyone visiting Lyon. The market is several blocks from the nearest metro stop, so I suggest taking a taxi or the bus to get there for us seniors.
A friend purchased this tour as a birthday gift for me. When I arrived the first time in June, I had to call the company because the guide was no where to be found. I spoke with Elise and she advised that the guide was meant to message me to reschedule because he couldn't make it that day. I never received a message. I rescheduled for a date in July and waited 15 minutes before. I called Elise again... and she said "you didn't get my message?" A message was never received and that would be because she never sent it. She stated that the cancellation was due to a Covid contact within the school. I advised that I would be seeking a refund. I would give 0 stars if possible.
very unprofessional compagny. i just got a message the day before the the tour at "23:48" and they just cancelled the tour. in that message, they told me that the tour was cancelled because of an accident to the guide. But the next day, another person sent me a message that the tour was cancelled because of the sanitary conditions. I was quite upset because it was pretty obvious that they were lying.
Went there during lunch time. place is quite crowded with almost all tables in almost every restaurant being full. With wide varierty of cuisines being served, all look very interesting and tasty. too bad I can't try them all. Worth a visiit
This tour was amazing. My guide Vincent was very knowledgeable of the history of Lyon. The tour included local business in which we were able to meet the owners and enjoy the great food and secrets if old town.
Nice leisurely pace and very informative, small group with an excellent market overview and history. The choices which were made for shops to partake samples of were excellent and the portion control was good so that by the end of the tour, you had a good meal.
The other reviews and tour guides sound great but unfortunately for our group we had a really disappointing guide and experience. I'll start with the positives - and the only reason I give 2 stars is that the food was excellent; 4 stops of cheese, meats, oysters, chocolate all accompanied with wine. A great reflection of an amazing food market. Unfortunately all I can say for our middle-aged male guide is that he needs to go and attend tour training. He arrived 5 minutes after the start time of the tour, and then we find out it's a training tour and he asks a new guide on her first day to translate most of his French into English for us, which she hadn't been told she would be doing. He actually speaks great English and could have given us the whole tour in English which would have saved a lot of time in translation. I'm supportive of on-the-job training but this was poorly organised and negatively affected our experience. Despite being a small group of 7, he didn't wait for us all to arrive before he started speaking, and most of the tine faced the stalls instead of facing the group (even when he was speaking in English) which made it difficult to hear. I actually had to stop him at one point and ask him to face the group because we couldn't hear him. Even after starting late, the tour finished 10 minutes early and felt really light on content especially considering time lost in translation. The information was generally pretty basic and unfortunately there wasn't a lot of storytelling that you normally hear on tours. We also had a vegetarian friend who had received email confirmation he would be catered for, but the guide didn't know about it and then made no effort to accomodate any alternatives, saying something along the lines of 'well this is just what we offer'. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the guide not making the effort, or the company - please don't tell us you will cater for vegetarian if you won't offer alternatives. This cut out half of the tastings and our friend would not have come if he had known. I don't like leaving a bad review but I just don't have a lot of positive things to say.. overall the attitude of the guide was quite sexist, very over-confident and unapologetic. I feel sorry for the trainee guide and hope she has a chance to learn proper tour skills from a better guide! We had such a disappointing experience, such a waste of money for our group.
First, Vincent, the tour guy was really nice, knowledgeable and had a very good English. That aside, the tour is a must do, to try little things that you probably won't try if you are alone. For first timers in France (or Lyon) it is a must do tour. It is not cheap, but nothing is in Europe. The key is to understand that EVERYTHING you will try in this tour or in France, if you go to local cuisine restaurants, is that all the ingredients, like fruits and vegetables, are local grown, no pesticides and very little GMO (or non GMO). That is priceless if you appreciate what you put in your body.
Very nice tour through the market. It was just me and a friend, which made it a bit more personal and like you could learn and ask more questions. Our guide took us to a bunch of stops and was very knowledgeable. We had samples of all the standard Lyon dishes and learned about the chefs. Highly recommend it to someone visiting Lyon.
One of the outstanding food markets I have visited in several countries/cities. Splendid display of local items such as cheeses, meats, canned fruits, etc, the list goes on. Good place to sit at a cafe and indulge in a morning espresso or latte. Easy place to find especially if taking the local transportation. Buses stop right in front and the price of transportation is a deal, 1.95 Euro. Might suggest you get off at the Hotel De Ville (city hall). There you can have another coffee at one of the many cafes around the plaza in front of the Hotel de Ville. Splendid time can be had at little expense.
Great food tour. Knowledgeable guide. Almost too much food to take in one tour but everything was comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommend this tour.
Vincent is very knowledgeable about food, wine and what's available at Les Halles Paul Bocuse. He is also very friendly and encourages everyone to participate. We had some excellent tastings - the oysters were my favourite.
I gave this tour as a present to my parents and they were very enthusiastic about it. They had the opportunity to taste an enourmous amount of delicious products and wine. And they enjoyed their great guide Elise. They recommend this tour and this guide to eveyone staying in Lyon!
Small group 2 hour tour around the market with tastings of cheese, charcuterie, macaroons, oysters, chocolate, and, of course, wine. Our guide, Vincent, was knowledgeable and informative. The stallholders in this market all supply the highest quality produce for Paul Bocuse restaurants.
Excellent tour with Helen as guide, super motivated to share her knowledge. Different tastings of local products, caressed our taste buds and made us travel in different know-how of French gastronomy. A very pleasant moment.
a great time spent in the company of our guide, Erik, who passed on his passion for Lyon and its gastronomy. one of the best visits made! again thank you to Erik for his generosity and the excellent time spent.
