At 8:50 am, our guide English Speaking guide will meet you in front of Lyon Office de Tourisme building main entrance door located on Bellecour Square (50 m opposite Le Royal Hotel). After a short walk, participants will get on the 8 seaters minivan to begin the Cotes du Rhone wine tour.
Start this full day wine tour in Vienne city with a stunning panorama on the Rhone valley from Notre Dame de Pipet Mount. With your guide, be introduced to the different grapes varietals of the Northern Cotes du Rhone, the crus wine appellations and the philosophy of the region relying on "terroir". Take time also to admire the spectacular old roman theatre as you guide tell you about the fascinating history of the wines from Vienne which were famous in Roma, 21 centuries ago.
Cross Ampuis town, the world capital of Syrah and visit "Cote Rotie" vineyards literally "roasted hillside". Drive on the precipitous vertigo inducing terraced slopes of "Cote Brune" and "Cote Blonde" and appreciate the 30 to 60 degree angles hills bathed in sun facing the beautiful Rhône River.
At 10:45 am, visit a first winery and learn some secrets about the Rhone wine-making savoir-faire. Walk through the barrels room and talk about the art of aging wine. Then go to the wine-tasting room and taste 3 white and 3 red wines including Condrieu, white & red St Joseph and Cote Rotie famous appellation.
Delight yourself with a delicious meal in a local restaurant which serves Cotes du Rhone cuisine. Our guide will be happy to translate and explain all the different courses for you! Menus start from € 20 during the week (special of the day) and € 25 on weekends. Lunch is NOT included.
In early afternoon, cross Condrieu, birth town of Viognier grape which produces the world famous white wine. The group will get to know its unique story, how this grape varietal almost died a few years ago. Then, push the door of a family winery and taste 5-6 different Cotes du Rhone wines among them, Condrieu, St Joseph or/and Cote Rotie appellations.
Finally, stop at a third winery to delight yourself with another 5 beautiful Rhone wines: take time to enjoy the intense aromatic Viognier and the quasi absolute perfection of Syrah grape of the Northern Cotes du Rhone in their original terroir.
At 5:15 pm, our guide will drop you off at Bellecour Square in front of Lyon Office de Tourisme. The perfect excursion for syrah and viognier lovers !
The guide/driver was well organized and knew a lot about the wines of the region. We went to 3 wine venues and an excellent stop for lunch. Our group of 4 couples were very international and loads of fine. It was one of my favorite tours ever.

We booked a wine excursion to explore the Rhone Valley wines. Sébastien collected our small group from our hotel and took us for a day’s adventure. We visited three wineries and tasted 4-6 different wines at each. It was very interesting for us because we have had little experience with the wines of this region. We were delighted with some of them and will look to purchase some bottles when we return home. Sébastien took us to a wonderful restaurant on the river for lunch. Throughout the day we peppered him with questions about the wines of the region, French language and culture and many other topics. Since he comes from a family with several generations of wine makers he is deeply knowledgeable. We all thought that he was an excellent host and guide. We are now thinking perhaps of coming to Beaujolais for a day of wine tasting on our next trip. Highly recommended!

We went on the full day small group Northern Rhone tour. Olivier was fun, spoke excellent English, and gave us a lot of information about the wineries and the area. The van was very comfortable. We visited three wineries during the day; the wine at each winery was very good. We all ate lunch together which was a good way to meet the other participants and also ask Olivier more wine questions. A very enjoyable day - highly recommended if you would like to learn more about wine and also see the surrounding area.

We had a wonderful day with Olivier learning all about Northern Cote du Rhône wines and the different AOC. We tasted some amazing reds and whites and visited some unique vineyards. The Cote Rotie area was exceptionally beautiful. Olivier was a great guide explaining the region and the various varietals in an easy to learn way. The day was well organized with a delicious stop for lunch midday. I have been on a few wine tours in different regions and would highly recommend this tour, it was the perfect balance of education and enjoyment! Dont hesitate to book this if you are considering it! Olivier does a wonderful bilingual tour of the Côtes du Rhône. He picked us up in his comfortable Mercedes Vito van and took us and a French family for a spectacular overview of the valley from the ancient Roman town of Vienne. Over the day, we visited three small family owned wineries and had lunch at Les Epicurieux in Ampuis. It was a perfect day. Highly recommended.

You should definitely go with Olivier to Cote-Rotie if you love wine! We had a great experience and he knows the local wineries. The wineries are small compared to what I'm used to visiting so he often has to lead the tasting himself but he's an amazing rep for these wineries and took us all around the region. He arranged a great lunch at a wine shop as well where you can drink, sample, and buy. We had a great time, book any of your Lyon tours with Olivier (Kanpai Tourisme).

We took two wine tours with two different agencies. Wow , they were not comparable! We highly recommend Kanpai Wine tours and excursions with guide& owner Olivier Delalande. We visited 3 extraordinary wineries, each one brought a different taste to the palette . Each winery was welcoming, very generous with a minimum of 6-9 different wine tasting of both red and whites. Their passion for their craft and products are felt in their explicit description of the processes of making their own unique wines. The wineries that Olivier chose were smaller family ran business dating back centuries. Olivier is an expert of the region, he is very engaged with his clients and has endless knowledge of the craft. He is personable, kind and made us feel at home. We highly recommend Kanpai Tours. You will not be disappointed.Enjoy and don’t forget your cameras as the sceneries of the hillside vineyards are absolutely breathtaking!!!
Oliver was our tour guide for this amazing day. He was funny and extremely knowledgeable about the region and wine in general. I was a bit apprehensive about the price but it was worth it. The stops for exploration and pictures were some of the best pictures we took. The vineyard and tasting stops were amazing as well. The wine was great and an excellent introduction to the area. Soooo many different types. I believe we were at 18 total tastings but the end of the day was a little blurry.
My wife and I had a great time (2 different days, one tour of Beaujolais and the next day of Rhone). Both days excellent advice and history of all things related to these wine areas. Very neat places to go that you would never find alone, and was a great 2 days experience. If you are interested in experiencing the unique wines of either of these areas, you will have a great experience here.
We highly recommend this excellent tour of the Northern Rhone. We received an incredible education from Olivier on both the history and the wines of the Northern Rhone during this well crafter and comfortable day. Olivier picked us up from our hotel in Lyon, and transported us throughout the day in his clean and comfortable van. We visited three wineries in three distinct AOCs, and stopped for a lovely local lunch as well. This is an excellent experience for anyone who finds themselves in Lyon or the surrounding area.
I've been on wine tours in a number of regions in France, Italy and the US. This was one of the best. Olivier, the guide, is a trained wine specialist, who knows his wine, and the small winemakers who are passionate about their product. Trip is appropriate for any level person interested in wine. Conducted in English or French--and maybe other languages. Just ask.
My husband and I did the half day tour. We enjoyed the wineries Olivier chose for us. One was small family owned and the other did larger production. His knowledge of the wine, terroir and wine making was amazing. He’s a great all around guide. The only downside was the time spent driving in traffic which added an hour on to our day. Highly recommend!
Oliver was fantastic. What I loved the most was his personal interest in wine of the region and his willingness to share the local history of the people, the process, and the future. More than telling his own story, Oliver is interested in the people joining him. He asked questions about our interest in wine, what we like, how we choose a wine... and then he makes a point to circle back and personalize the tour with what he learned about is. It was a well spent day. I recommend Oliver and any Kanpai wine tour. The one we went on was the Northern Cotes du Rhone tour.
We had a great 1/2 day with Olivier at Kanpai Tours! He had amazing knowledge of the region and was generous in sharing his background, experience and relationships so that we got in to some top notch wineries & really had an amazing time. Coming from NYC, speaking English was no problem and the prices were very reasonable - I am so glad we took time to leave the city of Lyon and trek with Olivier for more countryside, it was stunning and Olivier took time to show us additional spots including roman ruins and other scenic overlooks - gorgeous stuff. I would 100% recommend Kanpai to anyone who wants to book wine tasting tours - Olivier is on top of his game and if we go back to Lyon, we'd book him for another region / one of the other tours he offers.
Our tour was on a partially-observed holiday in France but that didn’t stop our guide Olivier from arranging three nice wineries for us to visit. What made this all-day tour special is we tasted at least 15 wines across three wineries (more tastes than other tours usually can promise). We also had lunch at our own cost in a delicious auberge up in the hills with lovely views. Olivier was an excellent guide, very friendly and knowledgeable. The rest of the group was a great crowd to chat with too. On the way, Olivier described unique details of the region and was sure to stop in a few places with great views of the vineyards (even one Roman amphitheater). I bought three bottles of great wine for my collection and I have a slew of photos to enjoy for years to come, I am so glad I booked this tour. Thanks to Kanpai for giving such a great experience!
