Amazing hotel! The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and super helpful. All of them were so kind. The reception desk helped us with everything! The concierge and all at the reception is the reason why we had such an amazing experience in Lyon. They helped us go to all the best places. Rooms are great and safe, and very clean. The hotel had a wonderful breakfast with probably the best French food I’ve ever had, so fresh and delicious. All the staff at the breakfast were amazing and so friendly as well. The location of the hotel is absolutely fantastic, right in the center and close to everything. Very safe as well. I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would 100% recommend it. I’ll definitely be back. Thank you so much to all the wonderful staff for making it a lovely stay.

Very well located hotel. The restaurant was excellent and service staff could not be better. They went out of their way to help us with any request. The hotel room and some common areas are in need of maintenance and renovation. The air conditioning could not keep up with the heat of the weather. I would recommend the hotel after they undertake and complete any renovation and repairs.

Pros * Excellent location directly on Place Bellecour, with a metro station just steps away. * Spacious room with pleasant views over the city. * High-quality breakfast buffet products. * Well-staffed breakfast service, which is increasingly rare and contributed to a smooth experience. Cons * No laundry service available on weekends and no iron provided in the room. * When this issue was raised, the response from staff was disappointing: “You should have asked before.” This level of service felt far below what one would expect from a 5-star hotel. * The hotel entrance is difficult to find from the main street due to a lack of clear signage. * The blackout curtains did not close properly, allowing significant light into the room early in the morning. * The property shows noticeable signs of wear and tear in several areas. Overall The Royal Hotel benefits from an outstanding location on Place Bellecour, spacious rooms, and a very good breakfast offering. However, the experience is let down by service shortcomings and maintenance issues that are difficult to overlook at this price point and star rating. While the hotel has strong fundamentals, greater attention to guest service and upkeep would be needed to fully justify its 5-star status.

Almost everything is broken in this hotel. The AC is barely working, turn it on max and only can keep the room not hot. The shower hot water is like a roller coaster, it will be hot for 5 min, cool down for 2 min, warmer a bit again. The window, after someone opened it, I can not close, and staff almost smash it back and lock it right away. It is a at good location, close the restaurants, attractions and shops, but not worth the price.
