We stayed during the Festival of Lights. This was a perfect stay. The location is ideal--just step outside to see one of the displays. The hotel had a mulled wine/cocoa stand. And you are steps away from all the beautiful shops, churches, restaurants, and of course on the walking trail to the rest of the light displays. The room was also perfect--my three big things are room temperature, water pressure, and location. The service was also outstanding and the room was lovely with a comfy bed. We were on vacation visiting other cities and College Hotel was the best hotel we stayed in, also the most reasonably priced.

We had a wonderful time at the College Hotel. Small room, absolutely clean, spacious bathroom. We appreciated the bottles to fill with fresh or sparkling water as we entered every time, and Francesco in the breakfast room was a delight. He ran out or arranged for someone to run out every morning for gluten-free bread! He was full of information and kindness, and we would come back just for him. The people at the front desk were always ready to help. We might have to come back to Lyon.
The room was ok. No fridge. They offer their own parking, but even after asking for it when making the reservation and asking again for it when the date of check-in was close by they failed to tell us that their parking was unavailable (even though it was empty, see the picture) We ended up having to park at one parking nearby, which was quite inconvenient since they only have exits with stairs, and the price was about 50€ per day. When we asked the reception staff, they told us that the parking would be available "the next day" which would have been okay-ish if they didnt told us the same thing two days in a row. Don't come here if you need somewhere convenient to park. There must be other hotels with a better parking arrangement.
The room was clean. The girl at the front office checked us in early, that was nice. The housekeeper accommodated us with extra comforter as I felt cold so that was kind as well. I haven’t tried their breakfast as I need a high protein meal and I wasn’t sure they had that. Hôtel definitely needs an upgrade. Everything looks and feels very dated.
Collège Hotel has a charming, creative design and a very convenient location in Vieux Lyon, which makes it a great base for exploring the city. The reception staff are friendly and helpful, even if their English is a bit limited. Although listed as a 4-star property, it doesn’t match the standard of a typical Austrian four-star hotel. The rooms have a nice atmosphere, but they can be quite noisy, as the windows don’t insulate well — the hotel even provides complimentary earplugs. The traditional key (instead of a card) adds character, though the door is a bit tricky to open and squeaks noticeably. The bathroom is simple and functional, with a similarly squeaky door.
