Great hotel with a great location. The best part was the staff. Everyone is super helpful from the moment of arrival to departure. Very happy of the experience. Great restaurant recommendations and they can book it for you! The AC is insufficient though, with it being maxed out and it was still 26C in our room all night.

really wonderful stay here. the staff is so kind and ready to help you with anything you need. I especially appreciated the young man who helped with all of our luggage when we arrived and when we left. The taxi the hotel ordered for us was a great experience too. it’s really the small things that make your experience enjoyable. thank you hotel carlton. I will return if i find myself in Lyon again.
Our family stayed in the Rotunda Suite and overall had a pleasant stay. The suite was spacious, quiet, and much more comfortable than a standard hotel room. We also appreciated the small private balcony, and the breakfast each morning was excellent, with attentive and friendly service from the staff. There were, however, a few areas that could be improved. The biggest issue was the room temperature at night. Despite adjusting the thermostat and asking the staff for assistance, the room remained warmer than we found comfortable for sleeping. The team was responsive, checked the system, and kindly provided a fan, which we appreciated. However, as the hotel is housed in a historic building and promotes its environmentally friendly approach, the cooling system still did not provide the level of comfort we expected. The analog thermostat was also outdated, with no way to see the actual room temperature. The shower initially had very low water pressure. After we reported it, maintenance promptly removed the flow restrictor, which significantly improved the shower experience. We appreciated how quickly this was addressed. While the balcony was a nice feature in theory, it was not inviting to use. The furniture was rusty, the area appeared neglected, and there were visible spider webs, making it feel like the balcony had not been cleaned for some time. One thing to note is that our suite was located quite a distance from the elevator, requiring a walk down two long hallways. On the positive side, this also meant the room was very quiet, allowing for a peaceful stay. Overall, Carlton Lyon is a charming historic hotel with spacious rooms, an excellent breakfast, and staff who genuinely tried to resolve any issues we raised. With better temperature control and improved maintenance of the balconies, the experience would be even stronger.
We loved this hotel for its location, historic charm, family-friendly atmosphere, and surprisingly spacious rooms. Even the elevator is beautiful and adds to the character of the property. The location truly could not be better - right in the middle of everything and within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and major sights. Communication before arrival was excellent. The staff provided restaurant and itinerary recommendations and made an effort to keep our two rooms close together so we could stay near our kids. Unfortunately, there were some issues during our stay. Upon arrival, our adult room was not located near the kids’ suite as originally requested, so we upgraded to the Carlton Room, which turned out to be lovely. It was very spacious with a queen bed, an additional cot, and a beautiful bathroom featuring both a tub and shower. We actually preferred this room over the suite. Our kids stayed in the Junior Suite Rotonde, the hotel’s largest room category. It was also spacious and comfortable, with a king bed plus a pull-out sofa bed and plenty of room for our three kids and all their luggage without feeling cramped. The biggest issue was the kids’ room, which had a very strong smoke/cigar-like odor from the moment we arrived. Although the hotel eventually sent someone with an air filtration machine, it took until the evening of the second day to address the problem. By then, one of our children was already feeling unwell and ended up spending much of the remainder of our Lyon vacation resting in our room instead of enjoying the city. Even after the treatment, the room still never smelled truly fresh. To the hotel’s credit, the staff did send up macarons as a thoughtful gesture to cheer the kids up, which we appreciated. Still, it was disappointing that roughly half of our four-night stay was impacted by an issue that significantly affected our comfort and overall experience. For our final night, we moved to the Cozy Room with 1 Double Bed due to availability. This was our least favorite room. It felt quite limited in space, and the bathroom does not have a door, which may not work well for everyone. Overall, this hotel has a lot of charm, an excellent location, and genuinely attentive pre-arrival service, but the room odor issue unfortunately had a significant impact on our stay.
I stayed at the Carlton Hotel Lyon and had a very positive experience overall. The location is perfect — right on a lively street full of shops in the city center. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. The room size was sufficient, and it had everything we needed. The wardrobe was spacious, the bathroom was comfortable, and the bed was very comfortable as well. Our room faced the street, and when I opened the window, we could truly experience the atmosphere of Lyon. The breakfast was very good, although, like in many places in France, there was a lack of black olives. Even after check-out, they safely stored our luggage until late at night, which was very convenient for us.
