We went on a winter whale watching trip out of Reykjavik. It was a great trip. Comfortable boat, supportive and informative staff and best of all masses of dolphins, a porpoise, a minke whale and a humpback fluke dive. Magical

Only saw a Minky whale for a second or two a few times then the ship basically turned around because of rough waters and we didn’t get to see anything else
My experience was even better than I imagined it would be. Haven’t seen so many dolphins in a small area and the bonus was seeing the humpback whale and it taking a dive
Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. A bonus was the free sea sickness tablets, photos and overalls. We saw 2 humpback whales and a number of seals.
Great experience with very friendly people. Suits provided for free to keep you warm though didn't take up on this. Great knowledge and photos sent upon request.
We got to see Banana, the humpback whale, and his companion feeding throughout the harbor. The creatures are so majestic! There is a cabin to get warm if you come in November like we did. Overalls are also provided if you wish for when you are outside whale watching and taking pictures. Everything was clean and well organized. The only rude people you have to deal with are other tourists. The boat crew is very kind. Overall wonderful experience and would do it again.
Booking through trip advisor was effortless. The boat was perfect size. Toilets. Cafe. Heated inside and lots of outside decking. Free warm waterproofs although not needed. Interesting commentary. And even saw a couple of whales!
This tour comes in two parts - a morning whale-watching cruise and an evening Northern Lights viewing. The ship is comfortable with an inside lounge and ample viewing area outside. They provided warm coveralls for us to wear over our clothes. We were fortunate to have a clear evening with a very active display of lights. It was a wonderful experience.
Amazing experience to see the whales breaching and do fluke dives 🐋🌊 The crew are so knowledgeable and helpful 👌🏼 The northern lights got rescheduled which we so happy about as got to see them so amazingly 🤩
Very cool experience, got to watch humpback whales feeding. We didn’t catch the Aurora this time around but if you don’t see it they give you a voucher gift next time!
Disappointingly cancelled. We booked a two part trip - whale watching in the day this was cancelled in during the day before the booking due to the weather. The second part - northern lights wasn’t cancelled at the same time so didn’t give us the ability to try and find something else to do. Ultimately both parts were cancelled - due to the weather and potential danger being out on a boat. Fully understand the reasonings why it was cancelled but very disappointed as we couldn’t rearrange as we went home the following day - the storm completely knackered our holiday, cost us a fortune and we spent more time watching Netflix in our room than enjoying the country
We set off on 3hr whale watching trip and we managed to spot a whale not far from the harbour. We spent about an hour watching the whale dive and surface and it was fantastic to experience the sighting in the whale’s nature environment. unfortunately the northern lights evening excursion was cancelled due to bad weather. Highly recommend this operator for a whale watching excursion ❤️
Very well orchestrated tour. Great tour guide, and we were rewarded with the Green Lady dancing in the sky ! I was able to have the photographs taken by Elding sent to me via email, which is a nice thing to have.
What I can say absolutely amazing trip humpback whales seen for and about an hour plus seals and birds . Then the northern lights came out as soon as we set off the staff were brilliant on both trips . Highly Recommend 🐋🇮🇸
Had booked the whale watching and northern lights package, but unfortunately the whale watching during the afternoon was cancelled due to the conditions. When I then arrived in the evening for the northern lights cruise, there was an issue insofar as my tour operator had booked the experience with Elding for the wrong date (they’d had me down for October, when in fact I was there in November). After some time while the staff on the desk tried to work out what had happened, as they hadn’t been expecting me, they gave me a ticket and said they would sort it out with my tour operator. So despite the issue, which was beyond my control, I was still able to go without any problem at all. The staff couldn’t have been better or more helpful. We didn’t actually see the northern lights, but as a natural phenomenon they can’t be guaranteed. The guide on board seemed very knowledgeable and the boat was comfortable. I spent most of my time on the deck outside but went in as we were o the way back. The inside was comfortable and warm with plenty of seating.
The company we used, Edlings we couldn’t fault. The staff were all lovely and knowledgeable. We did whale watching on the morning (9am). Sea was a little choppy, and it was windy, so I would recommend using the overalls they provided when outside. Kept us warm. Obviously, due to whale movement you are not guaranteed to see them, but we saw a humpback and some porpoise. Humpback was right next to the boat. Lovely. We went back at 9pm for the Northern Lights tour. I honestly felt this was a waste of money and would say stay away and spend your money on something else. We went out, put our overalls a on and headed outside. The guide told us we needed a clear sky to see them. It was cloudy, so not sure why they took us. When the boat stopped, the guide then said your eyes need to adjust to the sky for about 20 minutes and you MIGHT be able to see them. Otherwise you might see them through your camera. My partners eyes are perfect, I wear glasses. After a while, my partner said he thought he could see something (I couldn’t) and to point my camera a certain way. There was the tiniest bit of green tinge. Not worth it at all. A few weeks earlier, we walked out of our house in Wigan, and saw red northern lights straight away without our eyes taking time to adjust, and they were much better than what we saw on the boat. Comparison photos attached. We think all the images they post are all enhanced to pull tourists in. Wish we’d spent our money on something else as it want a cheap experience.
An absolutely incredible, once in a lifetime experience. The boat is very comfortable and the staff are incredible, nothing felt like too much on either of the boat trips. They even supplied anti-sickness tablets for my wife, I would highly recommend everyone going to Iceland take part in this.
It was a bit cold and rainy when we went, but I love the water so it was nice to be out. The whale watcher was very knowledgeable, and shared a few facts that I will remember. While I did not get to see any whales, watching the dolphins were nice. I wouldn’t recommend unless you just needed to fill time. Also, the ladies at the front desk were not clear with what would happen to my tour since weather cancelled the northern lights portion of the tour, and I missed the first boat going out. I was rebooked for 4 hours later, but I would’ve preferred a refund.
We did the combo whale watching and northern lights cruise. Both were amazing. They provide warm coveralls so that you’re comfortable throughout the entirety of the trip. We saw one green streak of the northern lights, and even though we did have a sighting, they still offered a free return. As for the whale tour, we saw humpbacks and minke whales. Well worth the time to go on a tour.
Brilliant afternoon, saw humpbacks displaying there fluke tails multiple times and displaying pectoral fin slapping. The crew found the whales very quickly and manoeuvred the ship around so we could all see from the bow but they kept a safe distance so as not to disturb the whales. They also sent me photos they took on the trip as mine were not too good. Theirs were so much better! Thank you
This was a split trip on the same day and the same boat. We went out in the afternoon to try and find some Whales, sadly for us we did not see any whales but we did see lots of dolphins. I would recommend wrapping up as it can get very cold on the boat, although you can go into the main part of the boat where it is warmer and there was some warm refreshments. We then rejoined the boat later and we headed out to see the Northern lights which we did see, so win win.
This trip is well worth the money, we got to see an humpback breach the water and the lights were also amazing. We certainly got our moneys worth The drinks arent too expensive and you can sit in the warm inside where it doesnt get too crowded.
10/10 Absolutely amazing experience. Memories to last a life tjme. I cried happy tears. First time in my life seeing a whale in the wild and we saw not one but TWO humpback whales - and in February!!! It was a relaxing boat ride, mixed weather so prepare for anything!… Our captain took us as close as he could get to the whales whilst also giving the whales enough space to act naturally. A tip off told him that there was a humpback whale in the harbour, so off we went and he was right. Lots of marine life, lots of sea birds and lots of very happy passengers. To top it off, we went out on the northern lights cruise on a cloudy night, and we saw the northern lights from the boat! The skyline of Reykjavík is beautiful at night, I highly recommend you all to do the combo experience. The guides were brilliant, Rob was funny and Whitty and really knew his stuff in relation to the northern lights. Thank you so much Elding - one day we will be back! Absolutely blew us away with how good both yours were. Incredible!!…
Both trips were fabulous. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights and whales. Nico kept us very well informed during the trip.
We did both whale watching and northern lights on the 20th September and 21st September. The northern lights where dim but this was due to the weather and solar weather. Seeing the northern lights is very hard because of this. The tour guide helped us view the northern lights and for the people who are experienced photographers we was able to get some great photos of the northern lights. We even saw some shooting stars. To our surprise they gave us a voucher to try it again as the weather wasn’t up to the standards of the operator. As for Whale Watching we had a fun time and spotted lots of whales! The reason I picked this operator is because it’s responsible with not trying to get too close to the whales to respect them and ensure the safety of them. The company does it’s own research into whales too and takes pride in ensuring the safety of the animals. We had a lot of fun and would highly recommend this operator.
My family and I took part in both the Whale Watching and Northern Lights cruises, and thoroughly enjoyed them. Elding tour guides are really knowledgable, and provide a great insight to the Northern Lights and the Whales which can be spotted along the coast. Very friendly, professional and polite, they were happy to take questions which tourists had, and also assisted people with setting up their cameras to ensure they were able to take the best photos of the Northern Lights. The boat itself was spacious, plenty of hand sanitiser available, and a nice little bar which served some lights snacks and beverages. I'd highly recommend Elding Tours to anyone visiting Reykjavik, I'd certainly go with them again when I return to Iceland.
We had a fantastic whale watching tour, finding a Minke and Humpback Whale, this was my dream come true! The Crew were amazing, great information and so kind! Unfortunately we didn’t see the northern lights but after the day we had we were all on such a high we didn’t care and just enjoyed the harbour boat trip, we got to see the peace tower lit up which was cool. Highly recommend this company!
We have been to both the whale watching and the northern lights boat trips and have really enjoyed both. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and we were very lucky to see whales and dolphins on our first trip and on our third attempt managed to see some of the northern lights but unfortunately it was very cloudy. If you don’t manage to see the lights, you get a voucher valid for 2 years and can keep trying each night without a fee as you get a voucher each time you don’t manage to see the lights or whales, so it’s worth to keep trying, It is a natural event at the end of the day.
Cannot recommend this trip highly enough, Estelle was a fabulous attentive guide and host and have so much information throughout the evening. The crew were patient and willing to steer the boat in whichever direction there was a glimmer of sky activity, I’m sure we were out much later than we were expecting because we saw a little activity on the way back to the harbour. As we didn’t see the lights as we would’ve wished, we were issued with complimentary tickets for a return trip and Estelle offered to email the photographs she had taken herself, I sent an email and received them less than 2 hours later. Fabulous service, a great night even though the results were disappointing - that’s not down to the crew though! Thank you guys for making it such a memorable experience Laurie and Wayne X
Very professional team. You do not just go out on the boat, you as well get a lot of background information and a very good guidance. If you are in fear of sea sickness, you can get free medication upon boarding. If you think, you may feel cold, there are warm overalls for free use. If you are still thinking about it, just book it, it is worth the money. Thank you to everyone at Elding to make those two boat trips such a wonderful experience.
Top tour, very nice crew and the photos are very good. Even if there was only one whale left, we saw it several times ... the short round trip to seal after other animals 8seals were also there), to give the animal some rest again I found good - there you could warm up well, because after all quite frosty. Too bad that the Northern Lights cruise was cancelled due to weather-related and low chance of Northern Lights, but I prefer to sit seasick unsuccessfully in the cold. Partial refund has planned without any problems as we could no longer make a rebooking due to departure. Really recommended. Thank you1
