Itinerary
Your adventure begins at Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, where you’ll board one of our comfortable whale watching boats. As you set sail into Faxaflói Bay, take in panoramic views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains while the crew shares insights about Iceland’s marine wildlife and natural environment.
Sail through the rich feeding grounds of Faxaflói Bay, home to humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. Keep your camera ready — sightings are frequent, and you may even spot puffins (in summer) and playful seals. Our experienced crew uses their local knowledge to find the best viewing spots while sharing fascinating facts about each species.
As you depart or return to the harbour, enjoy views of Harpa, Reykjavík’s iconic glass concert hall. Its shimmering façade reflects the light of the bay, making it one of Iceland’s most photographed landmarks.
On clear days, admire breathtaking views of Mount Esja rising behind Reykjavík and, in the distance, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula — often called “Iceland in Miniature” for its diverse landscapes and volcanic peaks.
After few hours at sea, the tour concludes back at Reykjavík’s Old Harbour. Warm up with complimentary overalls and enjoy a hot drink on board as you reflect on your unforgettable whale watching experience.

This was probably one of my favourite trips in Iceland! We saw around 5 humpback whales. Was a very beautiful trip I would recommend! The guide is very informative and you can tell she knows what she’s talking about and has compassion towards the animals!
Excellent trip, did what it said in the tin. We saw Whales. Tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. The whales didn't give me the epic photo I was after, but that's wildlife.
Patrick was our tour guide. He was terrific! So funny. Directed us to multiple whale sightings around the ship. The captain put us in very close proximity to a breach and a tail slap. Several fluke exposures, etc. And he captured pictures of those sights to share in case you didn't get a picture or video of it yourself. Just a wonderful experience.
We did get to see whales but many times the whales were located in front of the boat and were hard to see from most places on the boat. Crew should inform passengers that the primary place to see whales is at the front of the boat.
We enjoyed the tour and saw some whales. The length of the tour was 3 hours and that was just enough for the amount of whales we saw. Patrick our guide onboard seemed very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor.
I did this tour with my sister. We enjoyed an active Whale Watching Excursion on Oct. 6, 2026. Patrick was the guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertained and educated us about the variety of whales and their habitats and behaviors. He also shared a ton of ocean life facts and kept us laughing with his jokes. He took photos as we saw whales and dolphins! He posted them on the website following the experience for free! Knowing that he was taking photos, eliminated stress to capture if our photos. We took advantage of the insulated bibs to stay toasty warm. Do it! We would highly recommend this experience!
Wow! We were lucky to see 4 whales! And several leaping dolphins. The tour operators were all fab! Amazing to see these creatures, really fascinating and helped by the operators doing their best to find success and inform us...
Easy to find and organized. Very knowledgeable staff. We saw a lot of whales and it was great! Good indoor and outdoor space on the boat
Well worth it. An hour sailing out, an hour watching whales, dolphins, and porpoises, and an hour back. Crew was very knowledgeable and they also took great pictures which were shared with guests.
We had a great trip! Beautiful weather, calm waters and multiple whales, dolphins, birds including the Puffin, so cute!
Great experience. We were able to see whales within the harbor of the city. We had five or six different whale sightings. Whale dives so the amazing fluke photos…. Good knowledge from the Capt and host.
It was awesome. They provided a full body spray suit and the moderator was excellent. I'd totally recommend
Excellent tour with a very helpful and knowledgeable tour guide. Saw lots of whales and dolphins… one whale was very active too. An enjoyable experience. Thank you
he boat ride was pleasant and relaxing, We chatted with a few passengers from Australia, Canada, France, and China; and we saw several humpback whales as they rose from the water and as they raised their tails high in the air. Our guide was interesting, friendly, and helpful.
The staff on the boat are very kind and very informative! It’s very cold and they provide overalls to wear and they also have motion sickness medication and candy. I recommend the candy! It was a bit hard to see the whale.
Wonderful boat ride out to the whales, had dolphins play with us along the way. Great guide that was both informative & entertaining. Saw some whales, overall great time!
We had a great experience and Hannah our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable! We saw humpback whales, harbour porpoises, white beaked dolphins, and even puffins surprised us out on the water! I feel like the afternoon slot is the best slot to see creatures so I have been told.
Was amazing, the staff thinks of everything, they provide great information, we spotted a whale many times during the trip.
Be careful. The local tour operator, Special Tours, knew it was going to be a rough water for their guests and took us out anyway. My entire family and many of the other guests got seasick, which ruined the experience. When I complained through Viator, I was denied even a partial refund.
It was an easy walk to get to the port. We were able to spot three different hump back whales during our time. I highly recommend putting on the jumpsuit!
Yes it was nice we did see and made videos of breathing whale every now and then, people on the boat were very nice and knowledgeable. But there were just a few glimpses of whales Haha
The boat ride was fun. Our naturalist was a wealth of information and we learned a great deal about the whales. Our captain did an amazing job of getting us up close to the whales without disturbing them.
Such an amazing excursion to be out in the bay watching whales, dolphins and puffins, happily frolic and swim in their own environment. Our guide was so informative . Any wildlife and nature lover will remember this experience for a lifetime!
It was a fabulous excursion, with a very professional team. I loved it. To do it again without hesitation.
We saw many humbacks and got a lot of information about the whales living around Iceland. The guide was very friendly.
Really well organised and great commentary. I would recommend dressing warmly but there is viewing inside which is great if it rains. It was amazing to see dolphins and humpback whales.
We had a great day! I was a bit nervous about whether we’d see any whales since they had seen them on the earlier outing. We were on the boat for about an hour when two were spotted. What a blast! They hung around our boat for a good 45 minutes. Those two whales put quite a show on! The crew was very good at giving us all the info on the whales, and what we could see. I definitely recommend this excursion.
Tour was informative and interesting, lead by marine biologist who provides the right balance of facts and spotting information to see and observe the whale, dolphin and bird behaviors in the wild Boat is spacious and clean with lots of seating and a warm cabin if the wind and rain picks up.
Staff was nice. Good length for trip- not too long. We barely saw anything however regarding whales or porpoises. That is just how it goes.
Great up close sightings of multiple Hump back Whales. Comfortable boat with good facilities. The whole family enjoyed the trip. The weather was amazing too. Actually got a tan.
Not so lucky as the whale did not show up well. Only sighted its dorsal fin. An experience but not value for money.
Everything it was wonderfull. The matching, the service, the assisstance.
We had a fantastic experience, we saw whales breaching right in front of the boat, they splashed and slapped their tail fins and played for quite some time. Our first experience on a whale watching boat and it couldn't have been better! We also some quite a few puffins swimming and diving and I was surprised at how small they actually are! I would definitely recommend!!
One of the highlights of the trip! We saw dolphins and a humpback whale, which obliged by flicking up its tail! The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and the crew were professional and capable. Thank you!
Amazing once in a lifetime experience. We were so lucky to see all the species on offer, even some puffins. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about whales. She was very good at spotting and pointing out every whale. And on the journey back she gave a presentation about the different whale species, their anatomy and how we can help to prevent whaling. I had a bad bout of sea sickness while aboard and another staff member supplied me with ginger sweets which helped massively. Overall a very fun experience that I shall not forget.
It was a very unique experience, but to be honest it was really exhausting. To many hours in the cold weather, if you want to be outside and sightseeing. The beautiful whales were shy, and we didn't see them a lot, but it's ok. And actually we were wondering if it's good for the whales to watching them. As experience it was a good chance to see the Reykjavik sea, the beautiful birds and the horizon.
We had THE BEST experience - we saw so many whales, dolphins and puffins. One humpback whale we saw was breaching continuously for at least half an hour. We had a great guide, plenty of time to find and observe the whales and we would thoroughly recommend.
A great experience and we were so lucky to see a pod of whales. Everything was well organised and the guide was very passionate and knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience. The guide was very knowledgeable and very humorous. We learnt a lot and saw the whales, dolphins and puffins close up. Really incredible experience not to be missed.
A lot of people trying to see the whale. Staff was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of information about whales.
Great experience! Everything went as planned, the guides were enthusiastic and funny. We were lucky to see whales and dolphins. Dress warm as it gets very windy if you are on the top upper decks. It was nice there is indoor seating if you want to warm up. Take something for sea sickness ahead of time.
Cancelled 2 days in a row Then once on board little commentary and we saw no whales at all 3 hours sailing and saw nothing
We really enjoyed our whale watching trip! The guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information in excellent English. The boat is warm and supplies outdoor clothing suits if you wish to take advantage of them. It’s also very stable and smooth. We saw two whales, Banana and Hughie I believe, but we simply enjoyed the boat trip around the bay and the beautiful scenery and light as the weather changed as it frequently does in Iceland. Everyone rushes to the outdoor decks but my husband and another customer got excellent shots and footage from the internal lower deck, moving from one side of the boat to the other. Excellent excursion; we loved it.
It was very very cold and extremely windy, so come dressed for that if you want to sit top deck in open air. The thrill of locating a whale was fun. We saw one, a humpback. The eaters were very rough so thank goodness they give Dramamine before the trip.
Great crew!! Very friendly! They worked hard to make sure we saw a whale! I would go again for sure!
A friendly guides and boat. Saw whales a big chunk of the time. Very satisfied. The organization was smooth and there was plenty of seating. To improve, I would prefer even deeper boat cleaning and herbal sea sickness remedies.
We saw whales, porpoise and dolphins!
Lovely afternoon and managed to spot two whales in the bay soon after leaving port. The three hour session gave plenty of time for everyone to see the whales. No leaping out of the water unfortunately but some great synchronized surfacing and diving.
The boat and the staff were great. The sea was as flat as the proverbial mill pond, and a pair of whales had taken up residence just outside the harbour, so we had multiple sightings without sailing very far. The pair surfaced very close to the boat more than once and gave us synchronised diving exhibitions. Our guide (Joe?) was great, giving plenty of information at the right time, and providing us with the pictures that you really can't get on your phone.
