We had a wonderful two-hour tour of Reykjavik with Stefan. As a native Icelander, he brought a perspective you simply can't get from a guidebook, and his knowledge of the city's history and culture was excellent. He also has a great sense of humor, so the tour was as entertaining as it was informative, and the time flew by. Stefan offers everything you could want from a city guide. We would recommend him without hesitation and will definitely ask for him again on our next visit to Reykjavik.

Itinerary
We meet up by Ingólfur Square in old town Reykjavik by the artwork of the two stone pillars with smoke coming up from the top. Here we start off talking about the Settlement and the Icelandic Sagas.
We stop on top of the museum and peer down at the first Viking house in Reykjavik and talk about Vikings. We don't enter the museum.
In a secret location close to the Settlement museum there is an Elfstone / Home of Elves. We talk about Mythology and how quirky Icelanders are in that regard.
Close by the Settlement museum is the oldest house in the center of Reykjavik dating back to 1762.
We walk past favorite restaurants and bars and give you tips on where to eat, drink & be merry.
We walk past the Reykjavik Flea Market which is only open during the weekends from 11 am - 5 pm. Tip: There is a small food market there that's fun to visit.
We point out the one and only hot dog stand, Bæjarins Bezu pylsur where you can get the wonderful Icelandic lamb hot dogs. Beware of copycats all around the city center. We could grab a hot dog if the group is hungry.
We walk together down by the old Reykjavik harbor and soak in the beauty of the coastline and Mount Esja in the far. Down by the harbor we marvel at the beauty of the architecture of Harpa Concert hall.
We walk past Arnarhóll (Eagle's hill) where people from the capital area come together for special occasions like celebrating the national holiday of 17th of June.
Pass by the offices of the prime minister of Iceland. Talking about the fight for independence.
We admire Hallgrímskirkja church and talk about its history and of religion in Iceland in general.
We walk down to the beautiful pond or lake in the middle of Reykjavik. Rich with birdlife and a fun visit to feed the birds. During winter the pond freezes over and then it's fun to walk across the pond itself.
We admire the architecture of the Reykjavik City hall
At the end of our great Reykjavik walking tour, we check out the Icelandic parliament building and talk about things like politics, gender equality and the guardian spirits of Iceland.

Very informative. Very personalble. Answered all our questions. Iceland is a very charming country and people.
Pauli is as authentic and knowledgable as they come! What a gracious host!
Helga lead an informative tour covering Reykjavik and Iceland history. Reykjavik is a good size for a two hour walking tour.
Our guide was so informative and friendly. We had a great time and learned such a lot.
Einar was an excellent guide with a wealth of knowledge about his home city and the history of Iceland. I really appreciated the helpful post tour links, Icelandic cook book and group photos. Had a wonderful few hours in Reykjavik......too bad it rained the whole time! Einar was kind enough to bring us in out of the rain as much as he could.
…very knowledgeable and still entertaining. Stephani was fun. He kept up a steady pace but not too fast. We finished understanding more about Iceland and Reykjavik and what to do after the tour and on our trip.
Such a great way to start our trip and get oriented to Reykjavik! We did this first after landing and before we got into our hotel. Our guide was super informative, engaging and so friendly and helpful! Definitely recommend this for anyone coming to Iceland!
Had such an amazing tour! Absolutely phenomenal, very knowledgeable. Loved learning about the history and just chatting! Would recommend to anyone coming to Iceland
Our private walking tour with Robyn from Your Friend in Reykjavik was excellent. I contacted the company beforehand and let them know what my family is interested in. Robyn did a superb job at catering the tour to our interests and our kids' ages (11 and 14). She even took us to spot where a local cat hangs out because she knew my teenager loves cats! Tour was very informative but not overwhelming. Highly recommend both Robyn and Your Friend at Reykjavik
Friendly knowledge of country and history. First day in Iceland and we were 4adults and arranged for a private walking tour. Great way to start our Iceland journey.
We had a wonderful private tour with Stefán Ívarsson around Reykjavik! He was entertaining while sharing the sites and stories of the city. This was a great first day activity to help us learn more about the city.
We greatly enjoyed our walking tour with our guide, Bjarni r. He was very knowledgeable and did a great job of providing details on not only history, but also food and life in Iceland. Our original tour guide had an accident that day and Bjarni r fit our tour into his schedule. We enjoyed every minute of it and left feeling like we truly did have a friend in Reykjavik.
Magnus is a pleasant young man who is very unlike the stereotypical image of a Viking. He leads a laid-back and entertaining tour. I was a bit disappointed about the very limited scope of this two-hour walk.
Friendly and knowledgable guide. Met us at the pick up spot. Explained everything without any rush. (Very important for us). Gave us time to take pictures at every spot.
This was our first stop on on first trip to Iceland. After arriving at the airport in the morning, heading to our hotel, and dropping our bags off in the hotel, we grabbed breakfast at a bakery then did this walking tour. It was an excellent way to get oriented to Reykjavik. We got our exercise in (it was not strenuous) and learned both the geography and history of the city. It was the perfect start to our trip.
We loved our incredible private walking tour of Reykjavik with Bjarni! He did an exceptional job familiarizing us with this charming city, sharing fascinating historical details along the way. His storytelling was engaging, and his humor made the tour even more enjoyable. We loved learning more about Icelandic culture through his insights. It was the perfect introduction to Reykjavik, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting!
Perfect overview of the city, its’ rich history from architecture to why things are where they are! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and moved at our pace, while having great responses to our questions! Highly recommend it over a large group tour where you’re trying to hear the guide and not getting to ask questions. 10 plus!!
We were caught in the Delta crowdstrike mess. I cancelled as soon as I realized we would be stuck in our connection city and would not arrive in time for the tour. It was less than 24 hours and we were denied our request for our money back. Not sure who decided that…TripAdvisor or the tour guide. But totally not our fault and I informed TripAdvisor as soon as I could. Very disappointing
The guide was informative, however, she appeared to talk like she had a script in her head. She was funny but at times she appeared to be more about the performance than connectivity with her tourists. She was very nice but did not give us directions to get back to hotel or meeting place and said goodbye to us in the store We thought the walk was from 3-6 but she said it was just 2 hrs We were happy for that as we stood out in the very cold weather and were freezing
The tour was excellent! Our guide Oli was very nice person, knowlegeable, and helpful. He walked us through the city of Reykjavic and showed lots of interesting and beautiful spots of this marvelous city. He was absolutely proficient in English and had even visited twice our country, Uruguay. I would highly recommed the tour to all people coming to Iceland!
Highly recommend this tour as we had a great experience with Magnus. We learned so much about Iceland’s history and culture.
It was a very good experience. Great tour and Steina has been TOP!!! He even send us photos from the tour, a traditional Icelandic recipes book. Thanks for all
Maybe it’s more a reflection of us that the tour. Einad was a great guy and entertaining. But we were cold and were hoping to see more of the main sights rather than purely historical points of interest. We are too energetic and switched off so probably needed something more to keep our attention. As I say- it’s more about us than the tour but we just thought it was ‘ok’. X
Our guide was well informed and knowledgable about the culture and history of Reykjavik. Unfortunately we had to leave the tour after a couple of hours due to another commitment.
Arnar was a wonderful guide and a descendant of the first settler. We learned much about the history of Iceland and Reykjavík and had an enjoyable walk around the city. The recommendations were spot on and Arnar has a great sense of humor. Highly recommend, but be prepared for the weather!!!
I was caught in the DELTA meltdown and called to cancel my tour the second I realized that I would not land in time to take it. I respectfully asked for a refund, as it was a WW issue that I had NO control over. I was told that the tour operator would not refund my money.
Operator was flexible when our plane arrived late and showed us the highlights of town. Very knowledgeable and interesting and even gave us restaurant tips!
Einar was a wonderful guide - knowledgeable, entertaining and flexible (it was pouring rain, so he adjusted accordingly and took us to a delightful little bookstore/cafe for part of the tour). Took tons of photos for us and sent us a link promptly. I highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a flavor of Reykjavik.
Unfortunately, our experience with the Viking: Private Tour of Reykjavik was dreadful. Given all the positive reviews, I can only assume it was our specific tour guide. He was sarcastic, humorless, extremely negative, and at times inappropriate. He concentrated on giving us his personal opinions instead of informing us on the Top Sights and Local Spots. It was a huge disappointment given that this was the only time we had to tour Reykjavik on our visit to Iceland. I feel as if we missed out on a great opportunity.
A wonderfully informative walking tour round the town with the very knowledgeable Olafur made for a perfect introduction to Reykjavik and Iceland.
Stefan was an excellent guide, explaining the history and humour of Reykjavik. It was relaxed but informative. A small group of 5.
Our guide Einer was super knowledgeable! We booked last minute and ended up with just our family - me my wife and two girls 10 & 11. It’s a lot of history and insights into Iceland’s past and present. It was a pretty long tour but our guide was very flexible and we took a break for some hot chocolate and were able to sit and talk more about politics and history. This might not happen with a large group so we were lucky. But all in all our girls said it was great and they learned a lot. I thought they were bored but after the tour they spouted of facts and things Einer spoke about. He concluded the tour with a song/hymn (in Icelandic) a duet with himself via his phone. A nice touch that embarrassed our girls I’m a good way! We’d recommend if you really want some history and deeper insight into Icelanders ideas and way of life
We had Stefan as our guide who was very knowledgeable and kept us informed of interesting facts about the city and its viking heritage. The route is reasonably flat and the pace is suitable for all walking abilities. Very enjoyable and worth doing.
This was a very informative tour and was our guide, Einar, was the best. In addition to the facts, a very animated Einar entertained us with folklore, politics and history, answered all our questions and he even sang for us. (He has a great voice!) A great way to be introduced to Reykjavik!
Great guide: nice and super friendly! And also very helpful and knowledgeable! He talked about history of city which he knows everything about!
Did this walking tour the day we arrived in Reykjavik. It was definitely a good choice that gave us a good feel for the city and its history. Our guide, Arnar, could not have been better. Although advertised as a small group, it ended up being just my spouse and me. Arnar took some photos along the way and emailed them to us after the tour. Great way to see the city and learn about Iceland. Would definitely recommend as the first tour you do in Iceland if staying in Reykjavik.
great guide. lots of interesting comments. saw the older parts of Reykjavik, the rainbow street, the government buildings. Not a hard walk at all.
We enjoyed our walking tour with Ole very much. He talked about the earliest history thru modern day. He answered all our questions so thoughtfully and patiently. We enjoyed learning about his childhood growing up on a farm raising Icelandic horses. We love Iceland. It is a wonderful country. Thank you Ole!
Had a wonderful experience! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely would recommend this tour!
First rate patient and informative: flexible and knowledgeable. Explored inner Reykjavik city ending at the Lutheran church.
Seeing and learning about old town Reykjavik. Stefan was a very good guide providing lots of local color.
Highly recommend the small group "Walk With A Viking Tour". Our tour guide, Bardi, provided an all encompassing overview of Iceland's history, culture and unique aspects of Reykjavik and surrounding areas. His extensive knowledge and friendly, professional manner made this one of the best tours we have been on. And his sense of humor made it fun along the way. It left us with a solid understanding of Iceland and a desire to revisit in the future and take advantage of other tours Your Friend In Reykjavik has to offer.
Daniel was very well informed and engaging. He explained Iceland’s history and told us of some folklore which we found very entertaining We would strongly recommend this tour and Daniel in particular
Victor was a great guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We did this tour on the first day of our visit to Iceland, and he gave us lots of good advice on what to see, where to eat, things to do etc..Best way to start a trip.
My wife and I are still basking in the glow of a wonderful eight-day trip to Iceland. For anyone considering a visit there, we HIGHLY recommend it. We also recommend starting your journey off as we did, with a private tour arranged by Your Friend in Reykjavik and led by Viktor. While Iceland is known for its otherworldly beauty (and yes, the landscapes, waterfalls, glaciers, etc. are breathtaking), Reykjavik has a lot of history to offer as well. Viktor walked us through a large swath of the city, telling us about its past and pointing out the sites to see. He did so in a such an informative, relatable and engaging manner and we really enjoyed our couple of hours with him. Viktor is good-humored, lots of fun, and a terrific guide. Do yourself a favor: when you arrive in Iceland (or on your way home), hire him as your friend in Reykjavik.
This was the perfect activity to battle jet lag on our first day in Reykjavik and to get our bearings in the city! Our adult kids (19 and 23) enjoyed it as much as we did. Our tour guide, Einar (sp?) was knowledgeable and we could have spent many more hours with him. The pace is relaxed and the walking is not terribly strenuous. Very enjoyable, and if we were in Reykjavik again we wouldn't hesitate to book another tour!
Being served by Magdaline Ndinda,,,she's a cool and a nice person The service is fast I'd recommend the place
Best tour ever! TONS of great stories and historical info. Perfect intro to the city. Humorous and informative. Loved the personal touch from our guide.
Einor was very informative and explained the history and significance of many sites in Reykjavik. He encouraged questions and was easy to interact with during the tour. We enjoyed this experience.
