Eric was a wonderful tour guide. He evidently has a deep passion and knowledge of the local geological history. The tour was well paced with no time pressure and the stop locations were well chosen

Itinerary
The Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland has experienced several volcanic eruptions in recent years, most notably in 2021, 2022, and 2023. These eruptions occurred near Fagradalsfjall, creating stunning lava fields and fresh, still-cooling lava flows. The area is a prime destination for hikers, offering breathtaking views of raw geological activity. As you hike to the viewing point, you'll see vast expanses of rugged, black lava and steam rising from fissures—a rare opportunity to witness Earth's dynamic power up close!
Grindavík is a charming fishing town on the Reykjanes Peninsula, known for its resilience and strong ties to the sea. Despite recent challenges from volcanic and seismic activity, the town remains welcoming, with a vibrant harbor and stunning coastal views. After exploring, you can enjoy delicious fish and chips, made from the freshest catch, available for a fee—a perfect way to experience the local flavor!

Good experience yesterday with Tony, three stop offs in a geothermal area, the lava fields and Grindavik for a bit of a tour plus fish and chips. The hike itself is very manageable for most individuals with the option of avoiding a fairly steep uphill walk abpve the lava fields.
Great experience, I would highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide Tony was entertaining and very knowledgeable
We had such a wonderful experience exploring the volcano with Hershey! He was super friendly, kind, and always happy to answer all our questions. He showed us so many interesting things about the volcano and the effects of volcanic activity, which made the whole experience even more special. We learned a lot and really enjoyed our time with him. Highly recommend
Our tour guide aHoskuldurFrimannsson was so knowledgeable, pleasant, passionate about job and made the trip exceptional🙏🏽❤️
Very informative and learnt alot
The guide Höskuldur was very kind and knowledgeable, providing a lot of information that went beyond the scope of the tour itself.
Our guide Hoskuldur (Hershey) was very knowledgeable and made the tour worthwhile:)
Excellent adventure. Ritchie (our guide) and Ronald (our driver) did a fantastic job. Would absolutely do it again. Thank you
Great tour and guide! Leifur knows his stuff! Out of this world experience!
Very great experience with a cloudy wheater
We had a fantastic day. Our guide Gunnar RA was very informative and we had lots of stops to take in all the places of interest.
Gunnar Ra was really informative, and gave a great breakdown and history on some of the iconic lava spots on this tour
We loved it! Iceland is so magical! Would do it again if we could! Def planning on coming back………….!
Gunnar RA was very informative of the local history, especially the volcanic phenomena in the area.
Excellent tour: each stop was amazing and our guide Dylan was witty and cool. The tour was not too long, not to short. We could hike, eat marvellous food and walk around the most beautiful scenery at many unique spots. Highly recommanded!!!
Very interesting tour to the lava fields, very interesting stops as hot spring, ocean views. Dylan explain us a lot on the tour. The chocolaterie in grindevik is so tasty.
Excellent tour. Our guide, Dylan, was very warm and professional and shared a lot of interesting information about the geological and social / historical aspects of the places we visited. I enjoyed being out and about with only short periods on the bus in between sights. The hike across the lava fields was the standout part of the trip. Absolutely incredible experience!
Extraordinary sites, good program and Dylan was a fantastic guide with a good English and a lot of knowledge. Overall a great experience that we can recommend.
Amazing trip! Our guide Dylan was very knowledgeable, friendly and happy to answer any questions. Lots of different things to see including the most recent lava fields and the impact on Grindavik.
The tour was wonderful, we got to see the volcanic impact on the landacape as promised. It is an amazingly alien landscape. Leifur is a fantastically entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide. Great Lunch too.
The tour was very informative. Leifur added so much value with his stories and personal experiences.
I wanted a tourist experience. All I had to do was show up on time and they brought me to cool places. I didn't have to drive or navigate. I really enjoyed learning about the geological activity in Iceland. It was fascinating seeing a 5 years old lava field. I would highly recommend the experience.
Interesting experience about recent volcanic activity and general info about Iceland.
great tour, Leifuy was very informal and a good storyteller
Gunnar RA was great, very knowledgeable, great day, highly recommended
Wow. Just beautiful. Very easy pickup and drop off experience. You get to see geysirs and prismatic pools, with the option of hiking up high to see new sites—but the second location is WOW! You get to see frozen lava, hike next to it and see how cruel nature can be at times. There’s a far telephone pole that you can hike to and of course, you have to. After there’s a fish spot they take you which has some of the most melt in your mouth fish I’ve EVER had.. Then you cap it off with some of the most decadent chocolates ever! Overall stunning
A great experience with a fun and well-informed guide! No notes!
Eric our guide was amazing. His journalism background and keen interest in geology enabled him to share many useful pieces of information. I’d highly recommend this tour!
Touring around the peninsula with our guide, Leifur, was an amazing experience! Getting to see and hike around some of the freshest (our guide’s word, not mine 😂) lava fields in Iceland is an adventure like nothing else!
This was an absolute must do for Volcano lovers. You really get up close to the lava and get to experience it. Leifur was an amazing guide - full of knowledge and fun facts as we went along. Would definitely recommend for amazing sights.
Great spots visited, great tour guide Leifur! Totally to be recommended!
Excellent experience, with some local knowledge and visiting places I didnt know existed by just traveling Route 1 in the past. The hike to the top of the viewing area was grueling but extremely worth a unique view of the more recent lava flows. Our guide was knowledgeable and interesting. Ate lunch at a wonderful local spot in Grindivik, while understanding their disruption from the volcano.
Although the tour information says lunch not included, the tour did stop at a restaurant and you could buy lunch. We did not know this. Having said that, the trip was beyond first class and Eric, our Guide, was brilliant.
A very fun, informative day. Thanks to our knowledgeable guide, Gunnar RA!
We had an excellent time on our trip with our guide Erik who offered a wealth of knowledge about volcanoes as well as the human interest aspect of the people impacted recently by volcanic activity. The views on the hike were impressive. Highly recommend the fish and chips—we are not a family that eats a lot of fish but the lunch was delightful. Trip was about eight hours long and included some additional brief stops that were both scenic and interesting.
Our driver/guide was excellent. He was very friendly and understanding. He was very knowledgeable and he came with us on each of the walks and talked us through the main points of interest.
We had a great day trip with Stefan A. The trip is longer than Viator advertises, so be aware! The trip includes two stops at volcanic sites. We did not get to see any active lava, as it is of course unpredictable. It was still beautiful and extremely unique. There was just the right amount of walking/hiking for us- we are fit people but not extremely outdoorsy, and there were options for a more arduous climb or a gentle stroll. The restaurant stop on the way back has local fish, but also vegetarian options. We learned so much, thank you Stefan!
Stefán A. was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and informative. Tour is very interesting and a primal beauty. I would definitely do the tour again.
Stefan A is a very knowledgable and interesting guide and a great driver too. He brought mountains rock and mud alive and in an engaging and entertaining manner. Well done and Thank You
Our guide Dylan was very helpful, great hike. Thanks again Dylan.
Fantastic guided tour/day trip of Reykjanes Peninsula with guide Dylan who was very knowledgeable. The volcano trek right to the top is moderately hard - was a beautiful day but quite windy and it rocky/unsteady underfoot. Easier walk to the lava fields. Hot springs are amazing! We were ready for fish & chips at Pappa’s in Grindavik! Also bridge over 2 continents has to be seen. A perfect introduction to Iceland if you only have a short time.
Benedict was such a great guide! He gave us all interesting facts about the volcanic eruptions and even made an extra stop at the continental divide where the tectonic plates are pulling away from each other and making Iceland a little bit bigger every year (2 cm bigger)! The discussion we had about what happened in Grindavík was very enlightening and thankfully, the residents were evacuated before the lava could physically hurt anyone.
Stefan A. was great- knowledgeable, funny, and efficient with time. I loved the bubbling hot springs- there were tiny bubbling pots & one large roiling boiling pond. The volcano hike was awesome- I chose to hike near the lava & see the level of the lava from the ground. A muddy hike! Grindavik blew my mind- a town with a crater in it that had lava coming out of it. Amazing that people still live there. Steini was a careful driver - needed on those icy roads!
10/10. Very patient, helpful, and knowledgeable guide. Would recommend Stephan A. to anyone booking this tour. We also had a great meal at Papa's in Grindavik. Great experience!
We did this tour with the sky lagoon combo. Dylan was our guide - he was amazing, very knowledgable and clearly passionate about his job. We had a rainy and windy day for our tour, which slightly impacted what we could do, but Dylan worked out alternative routes and sights if there was any reason we couldn’t do the original plan, so we never felt like we missed out on anything. As long as you wear layers, waterproofs, and decent shoes it is fine. Learnt a lot about the island during this tour. Would highly recommend adding the sky lagoon combo on to this, as you will get dropped off around 5pm and can get the transfer back to the bus terminal after, and it was the perfect way to end a wet and windy day with some relaxation.
What a wonderful experience. Gunnar Ra was a great host, knowledge and funny even when the weather took a turn towards the end. I would whole heartily reccomend. Seeing the lava fields and the fishing village was a once in a lifetime experince and something you should see when you come here.
Excellent tour, our tour guide Gunnar RA was so friendly and knowledgable, nothing was too much trouble. Our weather was not too good but he certainly made it feel better!
Fantastic trip, very informative guide in Gunnar RA. The lava flows from 2024 & 2025, near the town of Grindavik, are really impressive. The devastation in the town is sad, but a real show of what nature can do
Great experience got to see loads, Gunner AR was our guide and he told us about everything we seen and stopped in a couple scenic spots so we could take extra pics.
