Wow, 100% something to do in Reykjavik. We liked it a lot better than perlan which we felt was to slow. This show was fast paced and the pre show had a lot to offer,💯

The Volcano Express is one of the best things to do in Reykjavik. A cinematic volcano simulator inside the iconic Harpa Concert Hall. Strap in for an immersive indoor experience with dynamic motion seating, real heat effects, and stunning footage of Iceland's volcanic eruptions — as close as you'll ever get to an active eruption. In addition to the exciting 10-minute ride, every ticket includes a pre-show area: Live eruption footage, four volcanic short films, an interactive eruption map, a live earthquake monitor, and the Instacrater photo experience — adding about 30 minutes of discovery before the main show. Perfect for everyone visiting Iceland: Families, couples, friend groups, and solo travellers (ages 4+). Shows run every 15 minutes. Located on floor K2, Harpa Concert Hall, Austurbakki 2, central Reykjavík.

Magical experience and great value for money. Will definitely recommend to others 😃
This experience is well worth it! Very immersive, exciting, and unique. A must for understanding volcanic Iceland.
It is a must do when in Iceland. Fun and enjoyable. Also, I had fun watching my partner's reaction.
This was an Imax-type movie, complete with chairs that lifted up and shook to simulate flight and earthquakes. At approximately $32 for a 10-minute film, it was pricey but we were so glad we spent the money. There are several interactive displays before you enter the theatre as well so you can learn more about earthquakes, volcanoes and eruptions, and glaciers. At some points you feel as if you are flying over Reykjavik and lava fields; at other times it's as if you are inside a volcano that is about to erupt. It was a ton of fun. The movie is in the lower level of the Harpa concert hall, which is well worth exploring for the architectural beauty of the place.
Title: Disappointing experience – poor communication of safety restrictions We visited Volcano Express whilst in Reykjavik, looking for something indoors to do during a national weather warning. At £50 for what is essentially a 10-minute experience, we were already hoping for something a bit more impressive. The experience itself involves sitting in a hydraulic seat that moves and shakes, with air blown into your face to simulate travelling through Iceland’s landscapes of ice and fire. However, our biggest frustration was the complete lack of clear information about medical restrictions before purchasing tickets. You pay for your tickets and walk through the exhibits before the actual experience begins. It was only during the safety video, approximately three minutes before the showing, that we discovered the restrictions relating to pregnancy. Which meant my partner was sat front and centre on a normal chair, close to a very large IMAX style screen which gives a poor view, but ultimately removed her from the ‘experience’. This was particularly disappointing as we had specifically looked for a suitable indoor activity to enjoy together while the weather outside was so severe. Instead, what should have been a fun distraction became another frustrating experience for my already fed-up partner. She could have achieved the same level of ‘experience’ sat in Starbucks watching a YouTube video about volcanism. Surely something as important as pregnancy or other medical restrictions should be made clear before customers pay, rather than moments before the experience starts? Even a simple question about medical conditions or a clearly displayed warning during the booking process would avoid this situation entirely. For the price, I expected better communication and consideration for visitors. A disappointing experience that could easily have been avoided. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the venue is impressive, clean and well presented. Better communication please.
A perfect experience. I was there with my 17-year-old son, and we really enjoyed it; it was full of surprises—a short yet absolutely perfect experience.
Nice staff, organized and fantastic show!
Originally not on our plan but surprised us a lot how good your show is🥰
This is the best thing to do in Reykjavik!!!
An absolutely brilliant and magnificent experience. A fantastic show that I can 100% recommend.
Great one hour trip Super informative Great interactive video Thoroughly recommend
Excellent. The movie was great and as many people have said, it was too short (9 mins). 20 minutes would have been good. The rest of the video exhibits were also informative although one of them was broken and there was no one close by to tell. I would go again. No photos allowed in the movie.
This was a short but outstanding exhibit and experience. The lobby area provides 4 very informative videos that explain a lot about the volcanic activity and how the geothermal aspects are used to make Iceland not just habitable, but enjoyable. Then we entered a small theater that has mobile seats, synchronized to the amazing video. The video shows real footage from a recent eruption. This location (Harpa Concert Hall) is conveniently located in downtown Reykjavík, and is an easy, affordable way to learn about the area while waiting for your hotel room after your flight into Keflavík,
Brilliant experience and very realistic
The volcano Experience was fun —no Doubt, however it was only 10 minutes in the theater— that’s short considering the fee was $30+
We visited Volcano Express as a group of seven and had such a great time! It was a really fun and impressive experience, and we were all surprised by how immersive it felt. The combination of the moving seats, heat, wind and incredible footage really makes you feel like you are right there experiencing the power of Icelandic nature. Even as Icelanders, we found it exciting and really well done. A fun experience for both locals and visitors to Iceland, and definitely something we would recommend!
Learned about the sense of the name of the Smokey Bay
Wow! What a cool experience! I had a smile on my face throughout the 9 min ride up out over Reykjavík across the volcano erupting and back again. Only stumbled across this on our last evening in Iceland as it’s inside the Harpa concert hall which is a fabulous building. It’s on the lower ground floor.
Neil, our guide throughout the experience, showed a deep understanding of geology, and is a fount of knowledge on all aspects of lava. Clear detailed explanations of physical changes in lava as it cooled in front of our eyes. Displayed great empathy with his audience as he offered clear and humorous responses to questions.
Very informative! Quick easy to fit in addition while waiting on flight or cruise. Was better than expected. Would recommend.
A fun experience with a nice blend of information, visuals with a 4D experience. It takes about 45 minutes at a comfortable pace. Good for kids. Centrally located near central/old Reykjavik. When arriving at the Harpa Concert Hall go downstairs to level K2 to purchase tickets and begin the activity..
Amazing! Will recommend this to all our gests on our trips to Iceland!
Excellent show and tour! Very unique experience! Highly recommend it !
Really fun experience and a great intro to the country and city before the rest of our Iceland trip. We enjoyed the shaking and the chair moving (but if you’re super prone to motion sickness you might want to skip this one). Incredible that it’s all real footage. Very informative.
The show what really good. Very informative and fun. Combined with The Lava Show and FlyOver Iceland, so much was learned in a very fun way.
Very expensive for what it is but also extremely well done and we're happy to have done it.
A great show, good value for money
We're amazed by the show and you could feel the power of the volcano
Staff were nice and the experience was enjoyable 😀
Loved the volcano experience. The heat and movement effects made it exceptional
Very interesting show for know the origin of aIsland ground
I actually thought it was a tourist trap at first, but no!!!! For me, I think it is a must for everyone to watch it, get a grasp why Iceland is the way it is, why it is expensive, because of how clean their energy is and how important is Iceland to the world
Brilliant show in an interactive cinema setting - so seats rising, jolting, heat, wind. Fantastic filming. Glad I did it at the end of my trip when I had visited lava fields and volcanos, so could really appreciate the landscape.
Great experience, informative and fun. It is an immersive ride with lots of information about volcanoes in Iceland . Good for all the family
Exceeded our expectations. Sit in the highest row. You will not forget!
Short but sweet and felt authentic.
What a hidden gem in the subbasement of Harpa! It was worthy of a US Universal park attraction. Seat belts on the chairs were absolutely necessary. I happened to hear about this from woman on the airplane. There are other "volcano" venues in the city, but this one is almost a secret. Well worth the time and cost.
Meh, save your money. 9-minute video with a rumbling seat for $33, or $3.66/minute. Not worth.
It was a beautiful experience viewing the beautiful city of Reykjavik, Iceland and learning how Iceland was formed. I am amazed the Icelandic people continue to live here with the volcano lava encroaching upon the land with each burst of volcano energy. Cost was 3990 Icelandic Kronos. 1 person left during the virtual presentation because he could not take the shaking and the virtual camera movement. .
This was a fun and educational experience. The show itself lasts about 10 minutes and is fully immersive with some really interesting footage of recent volcanic eruptions. It’s a fun way to pass some time while walking around the city.
The video and effects were excellent BUT way too short for the money! More pictures should have been included in the program
I really enjoyed this experience. It’s like a rollercoaster ride and cinema experience in one. You get to feel like you’re flying over a volcano. The volcano information exhibit is really interesting and interactive. Very informative. I learnt lots about the volcanos of Iceland.
Really enjoyed this 4D ride. Really well done and good value for money. Be prepared for roller-coaster mix of movement and visuals which is impressive. It lasts 9mins i think but was worth it.
Great info in lobby area. Kiosks described much info in volcanos while waiting for the 15 minute show. The show itself was enjoyable. Was a little pricey but everything here is. We enjoyed the active ride. Beautiful scenery and an enjoyable experience
The Volcano Express is excellent. My wife and I plus our travel companion enjoyed it so much we went back the next day. We decided to go back after visiting the Person Museum and attending their volcano exhibit. The Harpu Museum is convenient to downtown and the cruise ship terminal. I highly recommend the Volcano Express in particular and the Harpu Museum in general.
Very cool experience! Incredible imagery and highly recommend!
Great experience in the lower level of the concert hall building in Reykjavik (Fire and Ice glass one). An exhibition to look at whilst you wait and a chance to photography yourself with different Backgrounds. The main event is in the screening room where you are seated in comfy seats that move so you get the full experience. You fly over Reykjavik and experience going into a volcano and feel heat as you do. The picture and sound quality are excellent and the moving seats fantastic. I would definitely recommend visiting this experience. There are toilets on the level above coating £1.25 (pay be card) in August 2026.
Excellent experience , very well captured , truly amazing !!
15 minute show, I had to keep reminding myself that it is all actual footage and not CGI. Back row has more movement than the front and I think every seat is good. I should have allowed myself more than 5 minutes for the small exhibit before the show…10 minutes would have been better, 15 if you like to read all the information.
