We were picked up outside the hard rock cage by a hop on hop off and then taken to the BIS bus station to get the mini bus to the lava tours The tour was good the guide was funny and had great knowledge of the lava eruption that made the cave On the way back was dropped back at the Hard Rock Cafe
We were driven from the BSI bus terminal to the Lava Tunnel in a comfortable minibus, driven by a professional lady. At the site, we met our guide, Gerard, who turned out to be very knowledgeable. It was amazing to think that in that tunnel, once flowed lava. Gerard explained all the different conditions that created all those rock shapes and colours. The tour lasted for about one hour, but they do have another tour that ventures deeper into the cave and lasts way longer. After we finished, we were driven to our hotels, which was a bonus.
The lava tunnel was very interesting to see the changes in the earth. Guide was informative and it was an easy walk. Experience with the lights off was cool!
Our guide, Dimitri, was delightful! Very knowledgable and injected his humor all along the tour. Definitely a great way to salvage a windy, rainy day!
What an amazing tour. Our guide lead us through the very impressive Lava Cave Tunnel. Her enthusiasm about job and the group she was leading was inspiring. She had great knowledge of how the tunnel was formed. Why it’s safe to explore. It’s significance to their home. A trip well worth booking?
Adrian was a terrific guide! He talked a lot about the lava tunnels history. It was an amazing experience.
Every detail was explained well - from where to meet at the bus terminal to what to wear for the experience. We felt prepared and were able to enjoy the experience confidently. The bus driver was helpful and dropped us at the cruise port after the activity. The lava tunnel guide was engaging, keeping the event fun and maintaining safety at all times. There are steps and uneven paths; participants should keep this in mind when choosing this tour. We highly recommend and will share with others that are visiting the area.
We took our group of 7 (2 preteens) on a rainy windy day. It was chilly and wet and wonderful. Our guide was informative and funny. It was amazing to go inside this force of nature.
This is a fantastic tour. The guide is very knowledgeable and you get to see some amazing sites.
Tour was nicely done. The path in the tunnel is easy but know it is a bit uneven. Stops are gentle with a few stairsteps. Our guide was well informed and interested in questions. There are restrooms in the visitor center, nothing in the tunnel. They have done an outstanding job of making the tunnel assessable while preserving the natural character of the attraction.
The lava tunnel is absolutely beautiful and definitely worth seeing. The cave itself is an incredible experience. Unfortunately, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth because of an incident at the end of the tour. I traveled all the way from Mexico with my elderly mother, who could not see well enough to take photos. I kindly asked our guide, an Argentine man, if he could take a photo of me. He told me he would do it later “up there,” but by then we had already missed the opportunity. It may seem like a small thing, but it was a special moment for us, and I expected a little more empathy and consideration. His English was also quite difficult for us to understand. The cave is amazing, but unfortunately the guide’s attitude affected what could have been a wonderful experience.
I wish the tour could have been so much longer! Alex was an amazing tour guide with an impeccable sense of humor, It was so interesting to learn about the cave and how it was formed, it was absolutely stunning and a must see if you’re in Iceland.
Interesting experience. We really enjoyed the tunnel itself and it guide was really fun and informative. It’s an uneven rocky, path with stairs.
Absolutely amazing tour. Our guide Dimitri was excellent. He explained the science of the lava tunnel with wit, humour and examples everyone could understand. He highlighted all the features and explained what caused them. Really enjoyable tour.
Our tour guide was amazing, very informative and hilarious, really enjoyed our tour
Very well done on an otherwise wet and gloomy day. The guide was entertaining and very professional. Hiking through the tunnels and under the “skylights” is highly recommended.
The manager was very very rude, I cannot recommend this tour because when we arrived it was a bit drizzly and we were briefed by the guide I believe, that surfaces might be uneven. He recommended using the walking sticks provided, we tried to enter but didn't feel comfortable with the shoes we were wearing. The manager was very very rude, she came on the bus and told my wife and I we will not get a refund because she didn't see anything wrong with the conditions.
Great tour about 45 min from Reykjavik. Easy to follow directions for pickup. Lava Tunnel was very neat. Ground is uneven, and there are stairs. Walking sticks are provided if you desire.
Wonderful experience the Lava Tunnels were massive! Being there is way way way better than in pictures or Instagram. Out tour guide "Kevin" made it the best tour. So knowledgeable and conveyed the miracle of how a lava tinnel is made, 5,000 years and 8 months of continuous lava to form this one. We are privileged to be able to see it
Interesting walking through an actual lava tunnel. Short tour for those on limited time. Ground was a bit uneven but not strenuous and hiking poles provided for people with limited mobility issues.
It was fine. The guide was knowledgeable. Do i think it was the most exciting thing to do- no. You see a cave and they talk about lava. If you are interested in geology, it might be more interesting. Otherwise, it looks like any other cave to me. It wasn't bad, i just don't think it lived up to the hype. But most people on my tour loved it.
Easy pick up and transfer and the tunnel itself was terrific. It was crazy to be standing where lava flowed and see what the walls and ceiling look like because its different from a normal cave. Really knowledgeable guide (they are mostly qualified or studying so could get technical). Helpful to have toilets and drinks/snacks available too. We paired this the the Lava Show in Reykjavik.
The Lava Tunnel experience was fantastic. A seamless pickup and return. Our tunnel guide was engaging and humorous. Dress appropriately and make sure the your shoes can manoeuvre on slippery rocks. If you have balance issues bring walking pole(s). Highly recommend this tour.
Easy pick up and drop off from Reykjavík bus station and a comfortable transfer to the Lava cave. Wonderful experience inside the lava tunnel. Our guide was good and gave us plenty of information interspersed with some humour. It was our first time inside a lava cave and the creepy feeling, the damp uneven path, the brilliant colours on the walls, the intense darkness ( when the guide switched off all lights) with only the plop plop of water drops made it an awesome experience. Not to be missed.
Very neat experience and a perfect half day tour from Reykjavik. Definitely worth doing to see the unique underground lava formations.
Easy pickup and a pleasant not too long drive (about 45 minutes?) from Rekjavik. Our guide Larissa explained the geology as we made our way to the end of the cave, then gave us at least 45 minutes to explore and take our photos, which was just right. The walking is rocky, but not slippery. I enjoyed the challenge. The cave was so interesting and beautiful; my parter and I loved it. We are 70 years old. We work hiking shoes for a good grip.
This was such an interesting experience. We took an evening tour and it wasn't crowded. Our guide was very knowledgeable and there were a lot of interesting formations as well as some easter eggs. Liquor barrels were a nice touch.
Great experience, expensive like everything in Iceland, but so unique and other-worldly, very glad we did it!
Facinating tour of the lava tunnel formation with great and enthusiastic guide It was a pity our bus driver was having a bad day
Easy bus pickup for transfer to the minibus going to the lava tunnel. A very interesting trip with an informative guide.
Loved this trip! So interesting
There was a mix-up on the reservation. We arrived for the tour 2 days earlier and went then. However, we were charged for that tour PLUS the booking 2 days later. The agent at the desk said we would be charged only once, but that's not what happened.
Very informative tour great guide
The tour is short but very interesting and the guide was great. It’s a four star based on value. You are paying $120 for a 2 hour bus ride and 1 hour tour. All the passenger drop offs on the way back made for a very long bus ride. We didn’t have a rental so this was our only option.
The tour was an hour to see the lava tunnel and the pictures were worth it. It's kinda cool to see the colors of inside the cave. And it can be done in 3 hours and change. I booked this the day before at night because of changed plans. I almost didn't get to go because it was fully booked but some folks canceled/didn't show. You get a helmet and you can borrow hiking poles. It's several uneven steps. Highly recommend for a few hours.
Fascinating look at the inside of a lava cave. More steps than we expected. More uneven stone walkways. So be careful with balance.
The tour was fun, informative and very interesting. The guide was so very funny which was an added bonus. The transportation was on time and comfortable.
Great experience Host was knowledgeable-professional- and entertaining Trip was worth doing and worth the money
Went as part of organised extra for Eve Online Fanfest for an hour visit, bus driver was great and friendly. Staff at tunnel had good knowledge and understood was bunch of space nerds with 3 bus loads or more and worked with that to enhance our experiance with extra show provided with Fernis Creations. Hard hats and optional walking sticks were provided and got to sample some of the amazing gin they are producing on site. Really enjoyed seeing and hearing about the tunnel and how it was created and got some awesome pictures/videos would recommend a visit.
Very pleasant bus driver!! Guide at Tunnels was very knowledgeable. However what is not made clear is that if you have any balance/walking/knee issues this is NOT for you. There are basically no hand rails on many ups and downs over slippy convoluted surfaces I managed only ca 50% of tunnel even with walking sticks.
If you like lava tunnels, you'll love this tour. Guide was highly trained, competent and entertaining. Some ice, rocks and snow in March but, if you go slow, you should be fine. I didn't see any cliffs to fall off of. Some stairs, but you walk to the end and then walk back the same way, so if you need to stop before the end, you can wait for the group to come back to you or walk back on your own.
Very good tour, guide was knowledgeable. The tunnel was beautiful and I liked it more than I thought (really booked it for my husband). A couple of negatives: the little kids slowed things down and were distracting. Also, because of the slow kids, we didn’t have time to stop and really look around. Tour seemed rushed. And our bus driver was cranky! Would I recommend? Yes, the experience is worth it.
Amazing experience. The tour guide Alex was AMAZING. Thank you very much!
This is a site not to be missed. The cave is amazing to walk through and see what the fury of nature is capable of wroughting. The guide was both knowledgeable and entertaining. A wonderful experience and highlight if our trip.
Amazing tour. All well organised. And Dimitris our guide was very good. He conducted entire tour at a very relaxed pace, with lots of very interesting info about Lava Tunnels. I learnt so much from listening to him. At the same time he was very funny throughout that made the overall experience very memorable.
Fantastic experience, the guide was amazing
Amazing trip, Iceland has unique experiences.
This was such a great trip. Really knowledgeable and fun guide. Fitted great into a morning trip before the flight home.
All well organised , also the tunnel guide had a great sense of humour as well as being educational
