Very informative tour guide and the hour was an enjoyable experience (especially the comedy moments) would recommend the tour highly

Itinerary
Explore the magnificent lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir, one of the longest and best-known lava tubes in Iceland. Discover the inner workings of a volcanic eruption and walk along the path where lava flowed underground during the Leitahraun eruption over 5000 years ago. Our tour is approximately one hour whereas platforms and lights have been incorporated - making the experience of visiting the cave simply breathtaking. The tour difficulty is rated as easy, although guests need to walk over uneven surfaces and up and down stairs. Helmets and headlamps are provided and the guests go in a group with an English speaking guide who provides information about the unique geological features inside the Tunnel.

Lara was amazing and very informative. The whole experience was great. When the lights were turned off…just darkness and sound of drips. I loved it. Thanks a million Lara.
Really liked this one, highly recommend
Great small tour, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, great experience
Interesting experience at the Lava Tunnels. Love our guide's energy and knowledge in explaining the history and formation of the Lava Tunnels. Guide was the 27 October 2026 1pm slot.
After hearing so much about volcanoes it was interesting to experience the lava river flow from the inside. Our guide was very informative talking about how and why the rock formed. It was a sunny day when we toured so there was minimal dripping in the cave.
Fascinating tour with v knowledgeable guide.
The tour was entertaining and informative. Our guide, Franzy, was very nice. As a group, we also had nice conversations with her since we spoke German. Franzy had a great sense of humor and did a great job leading the tour. The paths in the tunnel are easy to navigate; for people with mild mobility issues, there are free walking sticks available for added stability. The first half of the tour is guided, during the second half (the return trip), you’re free to move around and look around on your own.
During our ten days in Iceland, we toured three different cavernous places; this one was unique and informative. Our guide was very knowledgeable. He was able to field and answer questions from our group of eight. He was also a great photographer and helped us find the right spot in the tunnel to capture our visit. The adventure wasn't hard to find, nor did it take too long - but don't be late! They WILL begin the tour without you! You shouldn't go to Iceland and NOT experience lava up close. The Lava Tunnel Tour is the best way to do that!
The tour was great! It was a really fun experience when the guide turned the lights off for us and we got to stand in complete darkness.
It was awesome! Really interesting and fun, with very interesting information provided by our guide Lara.
Awesome place, totally worth it! It was super interesting, informative and fun! Lara, the guide, was super cool, thank you so much!
Awesome, knowledgeable tour guide with impeccable English. Learned more than I could retain, but it was so fun and cool to be in the tunnel. The guide shows you how pitch black it can get, and was very personable and answered all questions.
Such a cool experience that you couldn’t experience anywhere else. A great guide l, very knowledgeable.
An easy one-hour hike through the subterranean tunnel left by an ancient lava flow, in the "fiery heart" of Iceland!
Adrian was a great guide. The tour was very informative about Iceland and volcanoes, the land. Loved it!
The tour guide is very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Very fun tour. Highly recommend.
We arrived for the tour directly from the airport. What a wonderful introduction to Iceland. The staff were so pleasant and helpful. The tour was amazing!!!! So unique and beautiful! Good shoes (preferably hiking) are a must! Lots of scrambling over small rocks! WORTH IT!
Absolutely amazing tour. Very informative and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend going. Our guide made sure everyone was together and comfortable.
This was awesome. We haven’t seen anything like it! It was only about an hour, so great if you are trying to squeeze as much into your vacation as possible. Guide was funny and knowledgeable.
It was awesome. We have never seen anything like it. Guide was knowledgeable and funny. Only about an hour so perfect when you are trying to squeeze in as much as possible to your vacation.
We had a great time at the lava tunnel tour with our guide Dimi! The tour was the perfect length, and they left plenty of time to take pictures and explore during the second half. Ropes sizes were reasonable, and they provided all the equipment you would need. The cave was protected from the elements outside, but water dripped a little sporadically due to the recent rain. We did not wear our rain gear, just winter jackets and hiking pants and hiking boots, which was enough for us to keep us warm and protected. We would highly recommend this if you’re in the area on your trip.
Great experience! The guide was fun and extremely informative - the lava tunnel was amazing!
This was a really cool experience. One member of our party was a little nervous in advance, but the infrastructure (lighting, stairs) made her totally comfortable as soon as we started the tour. Our guide, Ben, was also a wealth of knowledge and clearly knew the ins and outs of this cave. For a stop on the road, it's a great duration. We had a really nice group of fellow travelers -- the group was not too big. Good value for the cost!
Such a cool experience, loved our tourguide Adriaan, very informative and funny. See you next year at liquicity Xxo
The Lava Cave was breathtakingly beautiful and so much fun to explore! Franziska (?) was a great tour guide. She was knowledgeable & funny, too. Plus she took excellent pictures of my husband and I (and very accommodating to do so, thank you!). We really loved learning about the cave's history and how it came to be. It was easy for us to navigate & their walkways were very accessible, but you should wear the right hiking boots as there are some spots that work better wearing boots. Overall, a great experience and we highly recommend it!!
Amazing experience and wonderful guide! Learned so much and highly recommend !
There is not much to the cave itself, but the guide made the best of it with his great personality and sense of humor. There are some very interesting formations and the price is good.
We had the most fantastic time at the lava cave as the finish to our 12 day trip around Iceland! Adrian (I believe) was the best tour guide we had over the 12 days and made sure to provide information about the cave and its history while also keeping the group giggling! Would 100% return or suggest for others to attend. A wonder that is unique and perfectly timed!
The surfaces at times were very uneven and precarious. The photos on the website are very well-lit and are a bit deceptive as to how vivid the lava actually is. The guide was fabulous and had great insights and entertaining stories.
The lava tunnel was beautiful. Our guide was knowledgeable in the history of lava tunnels throughout Iceland. We even got to experience the natural light with the skylights in the first part of the tunnel and complete blackout in the further point in the tunnel. Even though the standard tour is rated a 1/5 difficulty, participants should understand there are still quite a few steps and natural rocky surfaces. There were several older individuals that were in the same group as us that had difficulty keeping up. I would go again and try the other tour that goes deeper into the tunnels.
wonderful experience, and our guide is very good
Cave much bigger and warmer than I expected. Guide gave a very good explanation on how a cave tube is created. One hour was perfect to me for a general tour. Along with reasonable number of people on tour. Footing inside is a little bumpy good shoe/boots are a must. Walking sticks were provided if preferred. I was fine without a stick. Cave walls had variety or colors and textures. Water was dripping down on us. Made you want to see what was to see around the curve of the trail. Fee was fair, to see the 2nd biggest Lava Tube in Iceland. Small children may not appreciate this tour. Families, couples and solo visitors will enjoy this special tour.
would appreciate more geology and less stories about social events
This is an informative tour that informs you of how the tunnels are formed and what things to look for that are unique to lava tubes vs what we see in more of a limestone cave structure. I found it to be a great tour.
The tour inside the tunnel gave me an insight and mechanically demonstrated the lava flow and the causes to some of the rock formations. It was enlightning.
Excellent tour of the cave. The guide was knowledgeable and patient. The visitors at times were extremely rude and talking while she was presenting important information
Great experience! Enjoyed this tour and learning about lava caves.
Excellent experience. Guide was great
It’s a nice experience with a pleasant guide but as most things in Iceland, too expensive for what it is. 75 usd pp for a 1 hour walk …. Not even a coffee or tea or chocolate milk included…. You have to pay for that.
Great guide! Cave was impressive and tour was worth what we paid. Make sure you have good gripping boots.
Everything is Great! Special experience. We love it. Highly recommend this Lava cave tour. 熔岩特殊的地形,導覽精彩,我們很喜歡這個行程。
Loved the chance to learn from our guide about the geology and history of this lava field and of the cave. A great thing to do when the weather outside was windy and rainy! We hadn't done any such kind of tour on previous travels and are glad we took the time for this tour. Beautiful area and surrounding waterfalls are stunning!
Interesting experience to learn how lava tunnels are created. Your guide was knowledgeable and the cave was well laid out. 1 hour was a good amount of time and was able to get a tour same day.
It was so wet down there. Be prepared. Definitely need rain jacket and rain pants. Pretty cool to learn about how it was formed.
The tour was an hour total, which included about 45 minutes of guide and 15 minutes of photography. The guide did a good job explaining how and what we were experiencing. Just also, it can be wet and cold down there.
We stopped by and had a fantastic lava tunnel tour (sorry, we forgot the guides name but he was an Environmental Science grad). He was very professional and informative and we learned a lot about volcanology & how the tunnels were formed. The guide was very engaging and didn’t resort to the cheesy canned humor which other tours often do. An unexpected find was that gun being aged in barrels in the tunnel so of course we bought a collectors bottle to enjoy when we get home
Excellent time in the tunnel, very informative guide. Make to to bring warm clothes and sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots, you will be walking over rocky terrain, not wheel chair accessible. They will supply helmet and flash light.
This was a real cool experience. The tunnel is not very long and easy to navigate unless you have mobility issues. The colors in the tunnel were the highlight for us. You get a history lesson and a total dark experience too.
Totally enjoyed the Lava Cave Tunnel. Our guide was very informative with a sense of humor. We did have to do some walking on uneven surfaces but we were prepared. It was also cool in the cave. At one point, our guide turned off all the lights and we had total darkness. And you cannot see a thing. Great experience.
