I took this Nordur Travel tour to Snaelfesnes Peninsula on 26 Oct 2026. We booked the tour through GetYourGuide, but wanted to book with Nice Travel and got redirected to Nordur Travel instead. The tour guide-driver spoke English then in Spanish to the passengers, but his accent was so thick, I had difficulty understanding his English. He also spoke too softly. It wasn’t until after the third stop that he used a microphone, but then he stopped using it thereafter. He gave very little information about the sites of interest and didn’t always tell us where to go to see the sights since we had to walk several meters to get to them at times. He didn’t tell us how long until the next bathroom break or when to expect a break for lunch until we got there. The guide gave us little information unless you ask for it. Even though this was a small group tour, the bus was crowded and the seats were tight. When we returned to our bus stops, the guide didn't tell us which bus stop was next. He also didn't turn on the interior lights in the bus to see whether we forgot anything. The sights were amazing, it’s just too bad that the tour was disappointing.

Itinerary
Our first stop takes us to the amazing Berserkjahraun lava fields. These jagged rocks are from an old volcano and look like something from another world. You'll see how powerful volcanoes are in Iceland.
Next, we'll visit the famous Mt. Kirkjufell, Iceland's most photographed mountain! You'll see its unique shape and the beautiful Kirkjufellsfoss waterfalls right in front of it. It's a perfect spot for taking pictures.
We'll drive around the stunning Snæfellsjökull National Park, a protected wilderness area surrounding the majestic Snæfellsjökull glacier. On a clear day, you can even see this glacier from Reykjavik! Enjoy the breathtaking scenery as we journey through this remarkable national park.
Get ready for the stunning Djúpalónssandur black sand beach. You'll walk along the black pebbles and see pieces of old shipwrecks scattered on the sand. There are also some old lifting stones here – a fun challenge if you're feeling strong!
We'll see the impressive Lóndrangar basalt cliffs, two huge rock formations rising from the sea. They are all that's left of an old volcano and are home to many birds, offering amazing coastal views.
We'll visit the charming village of Arnarstapi, a picturesque place with mountains behind it and cliffs by the sea. It used to be a busy fishing village, and you can still feel its history. Enjoy a walk along the cliffs and maybe spot some seabirds. The Arnarstapi bridge is a famous photo spot.
We'll make a stop at the beautiful Búðir Black Church. This striking wooden church stands alone in a vast lava field, creating a wonderful contrast in the landscape – a perfect photo opportunity!
Our final stop on the peninsula is Ytri Tunga Beach. This golden sand beach is a great place to see seals! Keep an eye out for these playful creatures basking on the rocks near the shore.

Snaefellsnes Peninsula tour. - We were the last to board, I got a middle seat in the last row. So basically I had no real view out of the dirty side windows, which in the back were already a partial view in the style of bus used. The view out the drivers front windshield was below my angle of view from the back so I only got to really see on arrival to each site. Our driver was Spanish and English speaking, not that it mattered because he didn't say much in either language and was mostly hard to hear since he didn't use the mic except maybe once. He told very little about each location only on arrival and I had to ask others for the amount of time at each site many times. The site views were beautiful in most cases, but marred by the lack of information. The driver was not friendly, just indifferent. No Iceland insights, no back story, no history, maybe the height of some rocks. This was not a good tour. I would not recommend this tour company because of the old bus style used and the lack of driver’s ability to guide. Fortunately he was a competent driver. However, he did not turn on the inside lights at each drop off stop so that passengers could pick up all their things and see the aisle. Tough trip to the end.
We were picked up last at Hallgrimskirkja and got the last seats in the back of an older small bus. I could not see much out of the windows. The driver/guide did not speak except when we stopped at sights (which were wonderful on our tour day). I could barely hear him in the back. I asked him to speak louder which he didn't. Only ONCE did he use a microphone and it worked perfectly fine. The seats were uncomfortable and slippery. Every time we drove over big bumps I worried about sliding off my seat or hitting my head (my seat belt wasn't working). There was adequate time at each sight, but with minimal explanation from the guide. There were no charging ports. At drop off, he didn't turn on the interior bus light so people could gather their things properly and see their way down the aisle. Thank goodness the bus didn't break down anywhere. If it weren't for a beautiful day, this tour would have been a bust, and we paid a bit more in comparison to other companies. I don't recommend this company for the Snaefellsnes day tour.
Lovely scenery. Great guide.
Everything was great. Pick up outside hotel. Comfortable transportation. Friendly and knowledgeable guide.
Overall, the tour was as advertised. Pickup and drop off were easy and we saw all of the sights that were promised. Our guide “Nacho” could have put in a little more effort. He shared very little information during the 10-hour tour. Some of the information that was shared seemed inaccurate based on facts we heard from multiple other guides and saw on signs at the landmarks. At the convenience store stop on the way to the peninsula, we were told to be back by a certain time. About 5-10 minutes after that time he returned to the bus. It was unlocked but no one was sure whether we should board without him there so we waited outside. Our lunch stop was also confusing and many of us struggled with what line to be in. Some assistance or telling us ahead what to expect would have saved time and frustration. Little things like always communicating the next stop and distance, where the next restroom break will be, checking in on the temperature of the bus, and opening the door when it’s time to disembark goes such a long way in taking the guesswork out of being a guest on a long tour day. We finally figured out we were just supposed to let ourselves off at stops. Overall it was a good tour and experience, we just would have appreciated more effort and communication from our guide. We did 5 small group tours while in Iceland (1 other with Nordur) and all of our other guides were excellent.
This tour company changed the pick-up time without me being aware of it, and I only realized it was happening as I was walking to my stop, ON TIME. I called them, but it was too late to make the tour since they changed the time without me being aware of it. Incidentally, that was my first contact with them by phone. They didn't bother to make sure I knew about the time change. I wasn't happy about that, but okay. I did ask for a refund, though, because I showed up on time for my tour, and they denied it. In other words, they know they screwed up and they don't care; they want the money anyway. Nordur Travel is a crooked tour company. Unfortunately, some companies like this are very comfortable ripping off tourists. On the other hand, I have taken a lot of great tours here. There are other companies doing this same tour, and they're unlikely to rip you off. Don't risk losing your money because a bunch of scam artists feel entitled to your money even when they screw you out of a tour.
Our Driver Edgar makes a very good job it was a wonderful day
Everything about this tour was excellent. I have no cell phone, but Viator corresponded with me promptly and clearly by e-mail. Driver of the clean and pleasant little bus was a fun and interesting guide. He kept us informed of where we would be going and how long we would stay, and even made extra stops to accommodate our aging bladders. The scenery was gorgeous and we had plenty of time to wander around and see the sights or get food. All-in-all, very well- orchestrated. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
When I return to Iceland, I’ll have to rebook this tour! The waterfalls were beautiful. The black sand beaches were so exciting to see. There were many lava fields all throughout the tour. The tour guide, John, was great! The tour was pretty long, but it was worth it because we got to see so many things. And since it was a smaller tour group, I felt like we were able to see more things than you would with a big group. Definitely recommend!!
Piotr, our driver/guide, was enthusiastic and well informed. He worked hard to ensure that all onboard had an unforgettable experience. When not narrating, Piotr played some lovely Icelandic music.
It is a long day from Reykjavik, but it was a good day. A lot of driving. We saw several waterfalls, including one that wasn't listed. The guide seemed knowledgeable. It was a pretty thorough view of the peninsula, especially for an excursion tour.
It is a long day but the scenery is absolutely beautiful! Our tour driver and guide Daniel was great!
Trip delivered on what the website promised. We saw a lot packed into the day. Was good to go somewhere not completely packed with tourists.
After being told to be at the bus stop at a certain time, they messaged us moving it to an earlier time. No biggie. Then they said they were running behind. No problem. They picked us up after about two hours of waiting at the bus stop. We got on and had to pick up more people. After picking them up the bus driver pulled the rear bumper and lights off by hitting a cement barricade. So that put us behind further. We were told we would stop places to site see. The first place was a beach with seals. As we’re driving by, the female tour guide said she had been there before and essentially we “weren't missing anything by skipping it.” That they were already behind. We stopped at two gas stations on the way to the eclipse and were rushed to go to the bathroom and not buy any snacks. We weren’t told anything about anything. Literally. She did tell us when a Tesla Cop car drove by though…? We got to stop somewhere for maybe 20 minutes. I don’t even know where we were. There were cliffs and seagulls and like three restaurants. Which we didn’t have time to see much of before having to go back to the bus. She didn’t know how many people she was looking after. She asked us if everyone was on the bus…? We don’t know? We got to the eclipse destination. Only to sit in the bus even longer while the guide and driver were figuring out what to do and where to park. For like an hour. We got zero knowledge on the eclipse or location. We were “waiting for the manager” to tell us more. She didn’t know where he was. So we got off the bus and stood around and waited for instructions . She didn’t know any information. One of the few things she mentioned was we would have six bathrooms available to use. So we walked off to explore. The first place we stopped in to use the bathroom was only for customers. The second place we tried, the employees were understandably annoyed with the amount of people coming into their store to use the bathroom. We told them she had told us they were available and the employee said she shouldn’t have told us that. After the eclipse we stopped at another place with no information or directions. Luckily our friends saw online that there was a waterfall there so we went and saw that. Otherwise we wouldn’t have seen it. Our “picnic” was a muffin and a candy bar. A fellow passenger was concerned about getting back because the buses had stopped the guide’s reply was “good thing we have scooters” and that’s it. He left. We didn’t get back to our bus stop until well after midnight. Another passenger asked for the tour guide’s name and she seemed very reluctant to give her name. It began with an M from what I could hear. To say we were beyond exhausted and annoyed is an understatement. Total waste of money.
What a terrific excursion! Our guide, Simon was a wealth of knowledge about the beautiful peninsula. He provided fun and informative excursion for our cruise group of 15 people as we learned about the history of the area and about what it is like to live there now. Simon's stories and narratives kept everyone engaged thought the day. We didn't know what to expect with so many different stops and this tour with Simon did not disappoint. Highly recommend this tour especially if you have Simon as a tour guide.
Tour around the mountain was excellent. Tour guide was personable and fun. She also knew a lot about the places we went to and where the best places to stop were. As a photographer I appreciate that she gave us plenty of time at each stop to get shots that I was hoping to get. I felt that her driving was great and I was even able to sleep on the road. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in Iceland!!
Petior our guide was fantastic. He did a great job with all his knowledge and kept us entertained. Would highly recommend.
Amazing tour with Edgar. Thanks!
Edgar was great - funny, very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions.
We saw so many sites on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula today, with Pietr as our guide. He explained what we would see as we were driving, then gave us time to explore on our own. There were just 19 people in the van and Pietr gave us adequate time at each of the sites. My only suggestion, if you take this trip, is to pack a snack as there really isn’t time for a sit down lunch. This tour was definitely a must do if you find yourself in this part of Iceland.
Not what was advertised or what we paid for. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula Adventure: Small Group from Reykjavik with Nordur Travel promised an English speaking guide. We looked forward to learning a lot about Iceland while on this 11 hour tour. Our assigned guide was sick and they sent a Spanish speaking guide who barely spoke English. We had no commentary and learned nothing about Iceland and the wonderful sites we saw. We were told to be out front in the cold at 8:30...and got there early. The van showed up just after 9. We got on the van expecting to be entertained with stories for the next 11 hours. Instead she spoke Spanish to a front seat passenger for over an hour, and off and on all day. In her defense, she was a last minute replacement and a very nice person. Still, we paid a premium price and did not get what as promised or what we paid for
The trip has some great stops: mountains, waterfalls, hikes, beaches, and our guide Briosh was excellent. We were also able to see seals on our trip. Unfortunately, the road from Reykavik is very bad and quite long.
It's been one of the best tours I've ever had in Iceland thanks to the quality of the exchange with Briosh and his enthusiasm to show the group spots off the beaten track. The weather was very nice but Briosh made the difference by taking photos of the group, making sure that no one was left out. I highly recommend tours organised with him.
We had a beautiful, warm, sunny day! It was a long day but well worth it. Our tour guide Lorenzo was terrific. Wear hiking shoes or sneakers!
A fantastic journey. Sadly not so much time on every stop for enjoying, but there were a lot of deep impressions with sunshine and blue sky. Thanks to Lorenzo for making this possible.
Flavia was an excellent tour guide and driver Very professional and very polite She was patient and friendly She gave good suggestions and advice at each stop Very safe driver The van was top notch
I recently took the Snefellsnes Peninsula Small Group tour. It was a truly amazing day…the peninsula was absolutely beautiful. Our guide Edgar was very accommodating and helpful and worked to make sure all participants got the most out of the experience. We saw many amazing sights and animals such as horses, sheep and seals. I would highly recommend this tour and doing it in a small group format. Happy Travels!
The tour route was really beautiful and the tour guide answered too all of our questions
Our family had a great time on this trip, during our first full day in Iceland. The pickup/dropoff was seamless and they had proactively reached out to see if my child needed a car seat. Gianni was our guide and his knowledge of geology added so much as we saw all these beautiful and amazing sites. My favorites were the black sand beach and the seals. Gianni also pointed out an orca (bonus animal) and two rainbows. There were a lot of sites and we were always kept apprised of the best times/places to eat and use the facilities. Would absolutely recommend.
Beautiful scenery, very informative and friendly guide, friendly and helpful driver. Its a long day but very worth it.
Excellent experience, with an amazing guide Ioannis. He explained everything really good with interesting facts, in English, Spanish and Greek, Incredible.
We enjoyed our long trip. Our tour guide Thomas was very knowledgeable and friendly. We recommend taking this tour.
Our guide Lorenzo and his team were very pleasant and accommodating. They made sure each one of us are comfortable and are well taken care of. Kudos to Lorenzo and his team.
We had the most amazing day with Lorenzo and co! The landscapes were stunning and some bonus wildlife spotting! Plus learnt some interesting things about Iceland, thanks to Lorenzo’s commentary! Would definitely recommend to all!
It’s a long day, with quite a bit of driving, but also well worth it. Unless you rent a car, I don’t think you will ever see the natural wonders that are on this tour. Plus we saw the attic tern, a couple of puffins and seals
So many magnificent things to see! Waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes, black beach, etc. The Nordur Travel group was great to work with. They answered emails and questions and even adjusted our pick-up point for the day trip. The guide was knowledgeable and had Icelandic stories and customs to share. We are so glad we went!
Overall we enjoyed the tour. 5/5 for the locations. A few negatives...for the first hour we couldn't hear anything until I informed the driver and he turned the volume up. Bus was uncomfortably hot throughout. Lunch stop wasn't until 4pm (!?) so we were lucky we ate earlier when we had the chance. Lunch was bizarre - we were taken to a restaurant that was closed for renovations where they were drilling the walls - we walked out and went elsewhere. Communication by the driver also wasn't the best as it was hard to understand his accent.
Lorenzo was a great guide, really nice guy, you could tell, and also a very good driver!
Good trip!We love this trip! Great!
Very enjoyable tour with Pyotr.
Tour was great! We had all kinds of weather. Edgar was great guide 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Edgar was a great guide. This is a nice tour. It snowed !
Tour was great! Edgar was a great guide, very knowledgeable man!
Peter was an amazing guide and ensured we had enough rest stops for toilet as well as snacks, while also bringing us to extra spots on the way for some quick pictures. Overall a very informative guide and a wonderful experience!
This is a very long day with lots of walking. But well worth it. It's designed to make the right number of restroom/food stops. Our guide Peter was kind, knowledgeable and very friendly. Pick up was on time. Each of the stops had ample time for sight seeing. I highly recommend it
We had a great time on this trip, everything was beautiful and our guide Edgar was also super friendly and helpful :)
Amazing trip! Full of stops and nature is beautiful. Planed really nicely. Our guide Edgar was really nice and fun, had many interesting information and made this trip relaxing. 👍🏼
Had a lovely day with Carlos. He took us in the other way than a normal circle which was much appreciated as we had lesser tourists around our group and we caught nice weather everywhere this way rather than being at the coast in the evening which would be colder. He also speaks Spanish so in case you want to join the group, he’ll take care of you too. The group was small and it was only 5 of us luckily so he made sure everyone is comfortable. He gave us other recommendations too.
We were never picked up from our stop our confirming the location and being assured the guide was on the way. Kids and I got soaked for forty minutes on a very cold windy morning waiting for the pick up for no reason. All were very disappointed.
