Itinerary
After parking your car in P5 you will meet you where all the snorkel/ dive vans are. Once you have greeted your guide he or she will run through how the day will go and what to expect from the tour. Once you're wearing all of our snorkel gear you will listen in to a safety briefing prior to entering Siflra. Silfra is known for it's visibility exceeding 100 metres. The reason for this is because 50km away there is a glacier that melts at different times of the year and this melt water makes a journey underground until it reaches a big 'crack' in the ground. This meltwater fills this 'crack' or 'canyon' meaning we can go snorkeling there to experience it. After spending 30-40 minutes in the water you'll finish the tour by warming up with a well earned hot chocolate. Your guide will take photos of you throughout and does not charge extra commission. Normally included are 40-100 photos, this varies on group size and the comfort level of the group. They are downloadable after a few days. With the wetsuit option all you need to wear your bathing suit underneath. Our guides highly recommended that you bring thick socks as this will help to keep your feet warm while snorkeling!

I had the most amazing experience diving in Silfra, Iceland! 🤍❄️✨ A huge thank you to Kaya for making this experience even more special. She was so sweet, kind, and lovely, and she stayed with me throughout the whole trip, explaining everything and making sure I felt comfortable and safe. The views were absolutely breathtaking and something I will never forget! It was truly a unique and unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend it to everyone. Thank you so much, Kaya, for such a beautiful and memorable experience! 🤍✨
This was AH-MAZING!! The water was so clear you could see the sunlight dancing on the floor of the bay. The algae in spots stood straight up like stalagmites. I would 100% recommend this activity. Kaya, our guide, was excellent and held tremendous knowledge of Icelandic lore.
Choosing an early slot seems much better to avoid waiting before entering Silfra. Interesting expérience
I'm 63 and was nervous about the cold. I did not use dry suit, just wet suit. No problem at all. Stunning experience.
My travel group and I all did the wetsuit diving. We've done the drysuit diving in the past, and after comparing the two I absolutely prefer the wetsuit diving. Yes, you are wet throughout rather than staying dry underneath the suit, however the water does not feel as cold as you would think and your body acclimates pretty quickly. In both the wetsuit and drysuit, your hands, feet, and face go numb regardless, so we much prefer the freedom and flexibility of the wetsuit over the drysuit. When you are in the drysuit, you have to have your wrists and neck tightly bound with ties to ensure no water gets into your suit, so between the constriction around your neck and the bulkiness of the drysuit it can feel a lot more claustrophobic for some people (me included). If you are in the fence, be adventurous and try the wetsuit! You will feel more bada** haha As for our specific experience, Kaya was a wonderful guide! She was informative, knowledgeable, passionate, and very experienced. She was thorough with our prep and set up, and made us feel safe and accounted for the entire time. We would absolutely recommend her for this adventure!
We had an amazing time snorkeling through the crystal clear waters of the Silfra fissure. Based on our purchase, we were given the option of wet or dry suits. We chose the wet suits since we like to dive down a bit while snorkeling. While they keep you warm, you definitely get wet in these suits. If you want to stay much drier, I would opt for the dry suit that you can put over most of your clothes. This excursion may not be for everyone as it's not your typical snorkel experience (much too cold for any fish, wildlife, coral, etc.) and your face, hands and feet will get SUPER cold! Still, our guide was absolutely amazing, the fissure was stunningly beautiful under the perfectly clear water, and our included photos via the GoPro came out amazing. I'd definitely recommend this experience to do once in your life...and you'll really appreciate that nice, warm hot chocolate at the end!
This was an amazing experience! Kaya our instructor walked us through each step with our equipment and then expertly guided during our snorkeling trip. I was nervous getting ready because the equipment can be tight and uncomfortable, but as soon as I was in the water that all went away! Thank you to Kaya for all your help!
Our guide Kaya was amazing, she made everyone feel comfortable and safe during the journey and was extremely knowledgeable of the area and the safety that goes into snorkeling silfras 2 degree water!
We had an incredible snorkeling experience at Silfra, and a huge part of that was thanks to our guide, Ines. From the very beginning, her attention to detail stood out. She took the time to ensure that every piece of equipment fit properly and explained everything clearly, which immediately put our group at ease. You could tell she was not just going through the motions—she was truly focused on making sure each person felt prepared and confident before getting into the water. What I appreciated most was how attentive she was to everyone’s comfort level. Snorkeling in glacial water can be a bit intimidating, but Ines checked in frequently, adjusted her pace to match the group, and created a calm, supportive environment. Whether someone was a first-timer or more experienced, she made sure everyone felt safe and able to enjoy the experience fully. Once in the water, she continued to guide us thoughtfully, pointing out features of the rift and making sure we stayed together while still giving us space to take in how surreal and beautiful Silfra is. Overall, this was a truly memorable experience, and Ines’ professionalism, care, and attention to detail made all the difference. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone considering snorkeling in Silfra.
Amazing experience, Dori the instructor was amazing and took great pictures. Must do bucket list item when in Iceland.
Amazing experience. Went for the wetsuit and loved it. Water was so clear, tour guide was Amazing and did a great job guiding us. Very helpful. Highly Reccomend
It was an amazing experience. Our guide Kaja was great and the snorkeling in the pristine clean and icy cold waters of Silfra was unforgettable. It was not just the snorkelling itself it was the whole experience of being able to whitstand the elements. We were really lucky to pick a very nice December day that was not too cold and had no wind either. Having the experience with ice cold water swimming before I knew the feeling of extreme happiness aferwards. It just makes you laugh.
Such a cool thing to do, of course it was cold but I definitely think it was worth doing the wetsuit instead of drysuit. I could go under the water and do a little bit of free diving, it was hard staying under the water though, I was quite buoyant. It was quite hard to put the wetsuit on though but that’s all part of the adventure. Silfra in its self was very beautiful!
Unique experience in a beautiful national park. A great tour company and Dory was an amazing guide! Even though it was a daunting experience, she was kind, helpful, and accommodating. She made my grandpa feel comfortable and it was a great experience for all of us. And the hot chocolate was a sweet treat as well. The water was so cold but it was worth it. Would highly recommend this adventure and this group.
My guide Alex was amazing! He stayed engaging, kind, and informative. Made the tour lively and fun. Would recommend to everyone who visits!
This was such a unique experience, one that we'll never forget! The wetsuit was cold but felt like we got to be more flexible. Our guide, Ines, was so fun and helpful!!! Would highly recommend for your Iceland adventure!!!
Great experience at Silfra with Adventure Vikings and our guide Ines! I enjoyed the wetsuit and the ability to dive down and found the cold water quite manageable. Merci beaucoup Ines for teaching us about the area, teaching us technique, snapping a ton of photos, wrestling us in & out of the suits, and for keeping the vibe fun from start to finish!
What a cool (literal) experience. Ines did a wonderful job explaining what we were doing and the history and landscape behind it. She handled the more nervous participants with ease, while still giving the rest of us a wonderful experience. The experience itself was humbling. It was crazy to think about the water temperature and where it came from, while having the same thoughts to the geological side of things. Once in a lifetime experience that I would recommend. We did the dry suits and were very pleased. They kept everything but your hands and a small part of your face perfectly warm. The hot chocolate after was a nice add on!
Did the tour with Alex. Pretty incredibly experience, stay somewhat warm the whole time except hands and face. The guide was super helpful in getting people ready and wrap things up at the end.
Awesome experience. Our guide, Alex from Liverpool, was phenomenal! Wetsuit was the way to go. Loved the photos he took. All in all a once in a lifetime experience!
Decided to go with a wetsuit rather than a drysuit, which still felt warm & comfortable. Dory was an amazing host! She gave me plenty of tips to get the best photos. A definite recommend!
I wrote a quick review, now I’m ready to expand. Other‘s reviews really helped me with this decision, so hope this helps someone else I was super nervous about snorkeling in arctic water and I really wanted to do it. Up until putting on the dry suit I was considering bailing on the experience I love water. I love scuba diving I had never worn a dry suit I was super anxious Once I met Alex, the guide, I knew I’d be ok and get to realize my dream to do the swim He was calm, confident, patient and kind. His demeanor was reassuring and he checked in with me every step of getting ready, putting on all the gear and taking g the plunge The dry suit is snug, especially around wrists and neck ( to keep water out) so it can feel a little weird the prep material had us wear wool socks and long thermals ( brilliant) Despite all his responsibilities to get everyone ready, he never rushed, made sure we were comfortable and ok. He answered all questions The swim was beyond my imagination, fantastic im soooo glad I didn’t bail ( thanks Alex) I was so absorbed in what was before me I let the current take me the wrong way, Alex was right there to bring me back on course ( the mask and hood can give you tunnel vision) I would do it again and if you can travel to Iceland, this is a must do. Go with Adventure Viking, they have their act together and have the best team! The equipment was all in great condition and there were no cut corners on an awesome unforgettable experience Thanks again to Alex and adventure Viking
Our guide Anil was excellent, we had a fantastic time. Highly recommend this tour for someone who has snorkeled before. Everything was very well explained and Anil our dive master was amazing helping everyone get dressed in gear.
The tour was incredible, the clearest water I have ever seen, the entire tram was very professional and understanding. And I can not stress how much better the experience was made by our amazing guide Alex!!!!,
Pick this place over Arctic Adventures!!! Much more friendly and understanding. We loved our guide Anil! Only issue is all of the links they emailed us don't work.
The guide Alex was the Best! He was kind and fun. The water was cold but it was worth it to see a once in a lifetime view how our world is changing.
Snorkeling in the silfra fissure is a bucket-list experience, but our guide Alex really elevated it! He taught us about the location and each piece of equipment as we went along so both of our teens and my husband felt comfortable. Love the pictures! 100/10 stars!
We had such a great time on the tour with Alex!! He was very knowledgeable and checked in on everyone throughout the snorkel. Could not have gotten into or out of the wetsuit without him!! Thanks for everything
We had the best snorkeling experience. What made the trip even better was our tour guide, Alex. He was so attentive, fun and made us feel so comfortable every step of the way.
We loved this snorkeling tour!! The water was so clear and pretty! Alex was amazing even though we booked last minute! 10/10 would recommend to all!
Our guide (Alex) was really excited to guide us in a wetsuit, as most people take a dry suit. He was very relaxed and took the time for us. The swimming was beautiful, and ofcourse very cold. We were taught how to freedive which was also a cool experience
We had such a good time snorkeling in Silfra! Dory was an excellent guide - kind, patient, and helpful. She accommodated my wife in a drysuit and myself in a wetsuit, and she helped me get the hang of a little freediving in the fissure. The snorkeling is amazing, and visibility in the water is spectacular. We were pretty cold by the end, but it was 100% worth it. Super cool!
Absolutely incredible experience! I went with my son on a beautiful sunny day, and the Silfra Wetsuit Snorkeling tour was unforgettable. We parked in Lot 5 and walked down to the second lot to meet our guide—though I initially missed that detail and arrived a bit late. Thankfully, Dory, our guide, was incredibly kind and welcoming, quickly getting us geared up and into the water without any stress. The crystal-clear waters of Silfra are unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and the free photos are such a great bonus to remember it all by. Highly recommend this tour—it was the highlight of our trip!
Wonderful female staff person! Very patient, kind and attentive. Highly recommend her- calm and in control. Thank you. ☺️
It was terrific, the guide was great and the whole experience was great. Swimming in the clear water and seeing down 42 meters and seeing your friends flying around in the water was just wonderful. I highly recommend this trip.
It was amazing! A lifetime expirence. The Equipment was good, i finished the experience dry. Dory was very friendly! 5 stars for her
This was one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had. Our guide, Doris, was very thorough, experienced, and funny. She ensured us the full experience while making it as self-guided as possible. Would recommend 11/10
its so great. Our coach is really nice and help us so much in safe things. This is my first time to diving and totally fall in love because of this trip.
This tour with Edgar was AWESOME!!! Everything from suiting up, to swimming through some of the clearest water in the world within the tectonic plates, the photos from our guide, and our guide Ed himself! He was so so accommodating and nice and even gave us hot chocolate at the end of the experience to warm up! Pretty chilly before going in the water but 100% worth it once inside and would recommend this experience to anyone! Thank you Ed and Adventure Vikings, you’re the best!!!
If you’ve ever wanted to experience life as a popsicle while floating between tectonic plates, Silfra in Iceland is your spot! We signed up for this adventure on a whim, thinking, “How cold could it really be?” Answer: Bloody cold (but only your face). Don’t let that scare you — this was hands-down one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. First off, the water is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom. The colors of the rocks, moss, and the endless shades of blue are unreal. Now, let’s talk about Wilmar, our guide and human life jacket. With a mix of sharp humor, endless energy, and a genuine passion for Silfra, Wilmar turned a freezing experience into a hilarious adventure. He walked us through every step, from squeezing into dry suits to keeping us calm in the water by cracking jokes. As for the cold? Sure, your lips might go numb, and you’ll start to question your life choices when you first stick your face in the water, but trust me, it’s worth it. Wilmar’s quick wit and encouraging nature made sure everyone stayed positive — even when we resembled awkward seals flopping into the water. 10/10 would freeze again.
One of the best things I have ever done. Would definitely recommend it can be very cold but the dry suits keep you 95% dry. Guides are great and very helpful. If you do anything in Iceland do this
Really good organised and great instructors! It is cold but really a 'one in a lifetime' experience.
Awesome!!! We had the nicest most knowledgeable guide that made it such a great experience. We highly recommend going with him if you are in Iceland looking for a fun adventure
Great experience with Klaudyna! Good instructions, always friendly and Professional - thank you very much Klaudyna!
An amazing experience. Very well organized. If you are able, I would recommend a wetsuit vs dry suit. The wetsuit will allow you to dive down where the dry suit keeps keep you buoyant and on the surface of the water
Beautiful underwater, the BEST guide ever Dori and great pictures! Recommend bringing your GoPro and doing the wetsuit for pictures underwater.
Dori was a great guide, it was a very unique experience. We really liked the wet suit approach, even though it was cold, it was an adventure
I am very disappointed. I booked this wetsuit snorkelling tour to fulfill a dream. Two days ahead, they told me they would cancel my tour because of insufficient participants. At this point, it was too late for me to reschedule. I had already paid, was not informed about this possibility when I booked. Luckily, further participants signed up later that day, so the tour eventually took place. When I arrived at the location, I was told that the office made a mistake, so wetsuit equipment was unavailable. I was able to join the drysuit tour, but I had specifically booked this company for the wetsuit tour. I contacted the office afterwards to ask whether I would get a refund because I did not get the tour that I booked for, but they do not even answer my emails. The location is nice, but the administration of this company is absolutely disappointing.
Exciting snorkeling session in a unique setting, guided by frriendly people. Even in the wetsuit, the cold is manageabable.
