Amazing and unforgettable experience! Our guide Abbie was so fun and professional. It was absolutely beautiful and a super smooth process!
Anna was amazing, she guided us safely and made the experience so enjoyable and memorable. Anna has a calming mannerism and helped me when I had a slight panic. After the initial panic, I was good to go. Thank Anna, it was a blast xx
It was a great experience. The team was great. Our instructor water guide was knowledgeable & patient.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely amazing experience! The snorkeling was incredible, and everything was well organized from start to finish. Our guide LUIS was AMAZING, so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, which made the entire experience even better. They made sure everyone felt comfortable, safe and had a great time. The views underwater were beautiful, and it was definitely a memorable experience. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone looking for an unforgettable snorkeling adventure! 🌊🐠 - 💗Gigi
It was a truly surreal experience and an absolute must-do when visiting Iceland! 🇮🇸✨ An unforgettable adventure made even more amazing by our funny guide, Luis, who kept us entertained throughout. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Iceland! ❤
Our guide was Kevin and he was awesome. Very informative and funny and felt safe the whole time. Would 10/10 recommend.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BRUTAL! One of the Best Experiences of Our Lives! WOW! What an incredible experience! Snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of the Silfra fissure was absolutely breathtaking. It was unique, exciting, beautiful, and far better than we ever expected. But what made this adventure truly special was our guide, Joaquín! From the moment we arrived, he made us feel welcome and well taken care of. He was knowledgeable, professional, courteous, patient, and always attentive to our needs. He shared fascinating information about Silfra’s history and geology, explained everything clearly, and made sure we understood the equipment and safety procedures before entering the water. Everything was well organized, the equipment was excellent, and we had plenty of time to enjoy the incredible underwater world. We never felt rushed or left wondering what to do. Joaquín was always there to guide us, answer questions, offer assistance, and make sure we were having the best possible experience. You can tell when someone genuinely loves their job. Joaquín’s dedication, expertise, kindness, and attention to detail made all the difference. He went above and beyond what we expected, and that is what separates a good tour from an unforgettable one. Troll.is, you have an outstanding guide in Joaquín! He deserves all the recognition for the excellent work he does. If you’re coming to Iceland, DO NOT MISS THIS EXPERIENCE! It is worth every penny, and we would recommend it without hesitation. Thank you for an amazing adventure and a memory we’ll cherish for years to come! Joaquín, you were BRUTAL — in the best possible way! 10/10!
Louis was wonderful! Such an amazing and peaceful experience.
Anna was our guide, very professional and cheerful. Thanks for everything it was a lot of fun!
Our Silfra snorkeling adventure was an absolutely unique and unforgettable experience! The crystal-clear water and the opportunity to snorkel between two tectonic plates made it truly special. Our guide Steven was fantastic – super friendly, full of positive energy, and always in a great mood. His explanations were interesting, clear, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. He made us feel comfortable and safe throughout the adventure. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Iceland. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
Very nice guide. Everything was explained very well before we started. Cool experience!
Had a really fun and pleasant sxperience. Funny and kind guide
Amazing experience! Kevin the guide was professional and accommodating! An experience, we will never forget, thank you
Wow what a fun experience. We had snow and it didn’t stop the activity. The guides were great and made it even more enjoyable.
Probably one of the most unique activities you can undertake in Iceland. The water was the bluest I had ever seen. The guides stop us a bit too often for pictures in my opinion and that can be distracting. Nevertheless they were extremely helpful and the site is amazing.
It was a Great experience. Luca is a funny Guide and take care a Lot of everybody and everything.
Luca was amazing! It was a super cool experience. It took about 30-40 minutes to finish the dive, and they took a lot of pictures for us.
Amazing experience! Kevin was our guide and he was really cool. I highly recommend this activity.
Wow, what a fabulous experience - breathtaking! Well organized and our guide Joaquin did a super great job! I felt safe the entire trip and had a super great time. Thumbs up!!!! Stefan
Fantastic experience with Troll Expeditions. Our guide, Kevin, was fantastic and made us feel very safe and comfortable throughout the entire snorkeling trip. The water is crystal blue and amazing to see in person. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland!
Had a great experience on this with Marcelo! Much appreciated
I saw folks doing this experience nine years ago and finally came back to do it myself! The tour was very well organized, we were provided with all of the gear to keep us as warm as possible, our guide was informative and took good photos! It wasn't as cold as I expected, but it was indeed cold. I'd highly recommend!
We had a very nice experience. Our guide Belu was very friendly and explained everything perfectly fine so every form of nerves were gone immediatly. The activity itself was something we had never done before and was very fun. We stayed in the water for around 30 minutes and could see everything perfect. I would reccomend this very much if you love to explore!
It was definitely an amazing experience! I was really nervous about my limited swimming skills, the cold water, and everything that came with it, but it turned out even better than I could have hoped for. Nothing was planned at all — we literally visited the park on Monday and spontaneously decided to do this on Thursday before heading back! Steven our guide was fantastic and made the whole experience feel safe, fun, and unforgettable. 100% recommended!!
Our guide, Belu, was tops. She used clear instructional language and kept a light and humorous approach. She kept everyone safe and comfortable. She did an amazing job
The snorkeling was great! Our guide Joaquin was amazing, funny, and very patient. Highly recommended doing this tour!
We had a great tour and guide Belu! She was knowledgeable and made sure everyone was safe and comfortable. The water is so clear it’s deceptive how deep and wide the channel can be. We had a great experience. Power through the chill on your face and possibly hands and enjoy where you are and the beauty beneath.
Amazing experience! They walk you through the whole process. Very much worth it! Thank you Luis! He is outstanding if you are lucky enough to get him as your guide!
Great experience, the cold is cause of the suits not too bad! Crew is helping very well. Hot chocolate comes good afterwarts!
This was a great experience! We had the best guide who made the swim so much more fun, thanks Joaquin! The water was super clear and this was a fantastic way to view the tectonic plates in the Silfra in a different way!
You should not miss it 100% recommend
Amazing!!! Well worth it, absolutely beautiful!!!
Absolutely magical!! We booked this bucket list experience as a family group, which was easily accommodated by Troll.is. We had a morning session with Steven; who was a fun, friendly, reassuring and confident guide 🙂 The location is breathtaking (not least because of the water temp!) and you soon forget the cold because of the incredible show mother nature has created. Also the best hot chocolate I've ever had 😅 the only negative is that it doesn't last longer.
Amazing! Our guide, Abbie, and the entire team were incredibly helpful in getting ready for the snorkeling! We loved experiencing this unique tour and the opportunity to be between continents! Yes, the water is cold, but the suits kept us dry and comfortable -- no discomfort in the water at all. If you are drawn to this adventure, don't hesitate -- it's incredible!!
What an experience! We did the tour with Marcelo. He was such a great guide. We were a group of 6 people and had to wait some time before we could go into the water, he used this time to explain a lot of things to us so the time waiting went by very fast. The water itself was cristal clear and at the beginning cold in the face and at the hands, but you get used to it. It was so nice to snorkel there, we didn't feel rushed and the people took care that everyone had it's space. Marcelo also explained a lot during the tour and took some nice pictures from all of us. At the end of the tour we even had some time to explore on our own, before we got out of the water and had some hot chocolate and a chocolate bar. Would highly recommend the tour. Thanks for everything!
Had a great time on the Silfra snorkeling tour. Our guide gave clear instructions right from the start. Putting on all the gear like the suit and straps was a bit uncomfortable at first, but once you get in the water, you don't really notice it. It was truly an amazing experience! The photos turned out great, too. And the water is unbelievable, the cleanest and freshest I’ve ever had. I couldn't resist taking a few sips toward the end. Highly recommend!
We loved our guided tour with Luca! He was friendly, informative, and he and staff helped everyone get into their dry suits. Our tour group was small, just 6 people, and we all had such a great time exploring Silfra. While the snorkeling portion of the tour was about 40-45 minutes (and trust this is all the time you need in the water, its COLD!), we were on site getting ready and going over safety briefing for about an hour, so the total duration of the experience was closer to 2 hours. Luca took photos along the way, and made sure everyone was featured. This is a great experience for adventure seekers, couples, and anyone looking to see a different side of Iceland!
Guita from Milan was a fabulously informative guide. There was no rush and very relaxed. An amazing experience.
Abbie was an amazing guide, she was funny and supportive. Pictures turned out great, highly recommend.
Joaquin is all that you need..
Highlight of our trip. Guides were fantastic. The gear and the process worked brilliantly. Completely blown away by the whole experience.
What a unique experience!! We went at 8:30, one of the first groups to go for the day and it was phenomenal. There were only a few people in the water before us so the water was CRYSTAL clear! It was very cold, but they do warn you about this before you go. We had Steven and he was wonderful! Made sure we were all comfortable and knew what to expect, and he took lots of pictures of us as we went that got sent to us that night. One thing to note is that there are no locker facilities, they just give you a waterproof bag for your things that stays in the parking lot with the tour operator bussed, so don’t bring valuables with you. It took about 30 minutes to get us all geared up and do the safety briefing, and then we were in the water for around 45 minutes. There was time at the end if you wanted to explore around the lagoon some more, but most of us were too cold so we got out right away. No experience required, the current basically takes you the whole way like a lazy river, without even having to kick or swim.
Our experience with Troll Expeditions’ SILFRA snorkeling tour was extremely disappointing, particularly given that this excursion involves putting people into 1–2°C water in drysuits for an extended period of time. My wife and I have done many snorkeling excursions and several scuba dives, although this was our first experience with drysuits. We therefore relied on Troll’s staff to properly fit us and prepare us for the conditions. Unfortunately, the fitting process was concerning from the beginning. Troll was operating out of several open trucks in a parking area, with staff handing out random sizes of drysuit layers in what felt like an assembly-line process. I am 6'0" (182 cm), 180 lbs (81 kg) and normally wear a size Large. I was given an XXL inner layer. My wife is 5'9" (175 cm), 110 lbs (50 kg) and normally wears an XS. She was given an XXL outer suit that was dramatically too large for her. When my wife pointed this out, she was told that the suits were assigned based primarily on height and that the fit could be adjusted by tightening the wrists and neck with externally added polyester cinch loops to compensate for an improperly sized drysuit. The neck was tightened so much that she began having difficulty breathing and her vision started to cut out, so she had to have it loosened. Even after that, the collar looked extremely loose around her neck. We were assured that it would be fine. The suits also had a strong odor of trapped, stagnant water, which was not exactly reassuring. Once we entered SILFRA, things quickly went downhill. Almost immediately, water began entering the arms of my wife's suit. I also noticed cold water around the seat of my suit and asked whether that was normal or indicated a leak. I was told it was normal. Our guide, Jan, was genuinely friendly and helpful throughout the experience. He explained that the snorkel would last approximately 40 minutes and that after the initial shallow section, there was essentially no easy way to turn back because the group would need to continue to the lagoon at the very end in order to exit. Once we passed the shallow section and began swimming rather than simply floating and acclimating, the situation became much worse. Water began entering through the neck of my wife's suit and flowing down her back. At that point she became extremely cold and knew she could not continue. Jan immediately recognized the problem, assisted her onto her back, and helped her get to the lagoon as quickly as possible while I followed behind. To his credit, he did everything he could to help us once the problem became apparent. Instead of spending the excursion enjoying SILFRA, we spent most of it trying to get to the end so my wife could get warm. Our actual time in the water was no more than about 12 minutes, rather than the approximately 40-minute experience we had paid for. Two other couples in our group also had their excursions cut short, although they did not experience the same degree of water intrusion that we did. When we exited and were helped out of our suits, a staff member could see that my wife was soaking wet. My thermals were also wet around the seat of my pants. We were told that there appeared to have been a leak in my suit, and an apology was offered. We were also told that concerns had been raised internally about the fit of my wife's suit before we entered the water, but that those concerns had not resulted in her being given a different suit. This is particularly troubling because we were not experienced drysuit users. When my wife initially questioned the sizing, we were told that Troll assigns suits based on height rather than weight or body size. We assumed the staff knew what they were doing and did not push the issue further. In hindsight, we should have insisted on a better-fitting suit, but that's precisely why customers rely on experienced operators when participating in an activity involving near-freezing water. Afterward, we felt a refund of the $150 we paid for the two of us was reasonable. We contacted the booking company, which told us they had spoken with Troll. Troll refused to provide a refund, reiterating that they size suits based on height and stating that there was no hole in the suits. This was inconsistent with what we had been told by staff immediately after the excursion. I want to be clear that Jan himself was excellent. He was friendly, attentive, and did everything he could once my wife began having trouble. Our concern is with the equipment fitting, the decision to put customers into poorly fitting suits, the response to concerns during the excursion, and ultimately the refusal to acknowledge that we received only a fraction of the experience we paid for. SILFRA is an incredible experience, but it also requires an operator to take equipment fitting and customer safety seriously. Based on our experience, we would not recommend Troll Expeditions for this excursion.
Loved the experience! Marcelo was a great guide, always attentive and explaining thoroughly what we had to do. The place is incredible, more beautiful than what we had imagined. Definitely recommend!
Amazing experience, spectacular views underwater, and really friendly guide
Oh my Goodness this was so cool - lol literally. My husband and I scuba and did not want to go through the dry suit certification so we decided to snorkel. So glad we did - we would not have seen much more by doing scuba. The experience was so cool never done anything like it anywhere else. Highly recommend this if you love the water and snorkel
This was a once in a lifetime, amazing experience! We booked it for the afternoon of our arrival into Iceland. I was worried about lack of sleep dampening the experience. It did not! The excitement and cold water on my face woke me right up!!! Our weather was perfect and the only thing that cold on me was my hands! My husband and I are 58 years old and somewhat athletic. We are not experienced snorkelers but have snorkeled in the past. We absolutely loved the experience!
Avoid this tour! Our party of 4 did this tour and we wish we didn't. First it was raining which was unfortunate. However, we did not expect that we would have to wait in the freezing rain for 30 minutes with no shelter to get fully dressed into the dry suits, which were now all soggy and wet. They also smelled awful. Our hair was soaked while we stood in the rain. None of us were sized properly for our dry suits, they just gave us whatever they found. My dry suit had boots that were twice the size of my feet making walking to the water hard and painful. My friend who is an extra small was given an XXL dry suit which was ridiculous. The tour operator's solution to this was to put ties on our wrists, ankles and neck which were cutting off circulation in our hands. When we raised the concerns about the sizes they gave us we were dismissed and told it would be fine. It was not. Two people in our group had water penetrate the dry suits and got soaking wet inside. We had to end our tour early to get them out of the freezing water. Expect that your hands, nose, lips and ears will all be freezing cold. Your hair will get wet. Bring a change of clothing because if like us, you do this at the start of your golden circle route, you will want something dry to change into if your under layers get wet. Besides all of that, this tour takes a lot of time which shortens how much time you have for the rest of the golden circle. Skip the tour and just enjoy silfra without snorkeling. What we did get to see was nice but nothing amazing. Just a lot of rocks. We were all so cold we couldn't really appreciate the experience. And the pictures they took were pretty much garbage. The most frustrating part is that this could all have been remedied by the tour operator having a simple tent and taking the time to size people properly with clean, properly maintained equipment.
This was an amazing experience. The water is very cold, but the only thing that will be cold is your hands and face. The dry suits worked perfectly. The guides were the BEST. Very attentive and welcoming. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
