It was an enjoyable experience with Dory! The parking was a bit confusing. Give yourself an extra 10 minutes to make it to the van. The drysuit kept us warm and dry but they were very uncomfortable especially for a short person. The walk in the super large drysuit was a WORKOUT. However Dory was patient and did a great job!

Itinerary
Meet us at Thingvellir National Park, about 50 km from Reykjavik. Once you have met your PADI divemaster certified guide, he or she will be going through the procedure and safety measures of your tour. After, you will put on your gear and head to an exotic underwater canyon/fissure, Silfra, created as the continental plates drift apart at a rate of about 2 cm per year. Silfra is a freshwater fissure where you can see at least 100 meters ahead of you. The water here is so clear and pristine it feels like flying. The approximate time in the water is around 40 minutes. Before leaving you'll have a delicious hot chocolate prepared by your guide for the day. We do have the option to pre-book a wetsuit on another listing. Booking a wetsuit is recommended for people who want to have the chance to dive down or who are scuba divers without the required certifications for the scuba dive. For the wetsuit it is recommended that you are a confident swimmer, if you are not then the drysuit is best for you. To cater to everyone's desires we are the only company that has wetsuits and drysuits allowing them to be in the same group.

Excellent guide! Can't wait to get the pictures back. Experience was tainted by a client attempting to unsuccessfully dive deeper using a wetsuit and in the process almost hit me multiple times. Drysuit and wetsuit snorkeling should be scheduled separately if clients are going to be allowed to attempt deeper dives when using a wetsuit. Mixing the two along with differing experience levels of the snorkelers is a disaster waiting to happen.
Doris was a great tour guide, it was a fun unique experience! She made everything seamless.
Dory was an amazing tour guide. Put any worries we had at ease and felt safe the whole time. We all had so much fun and it was definitely a life long memory!
Dory was so kind and helped us have a great experience!
Kaya was great! The tour allots for 3 hours but you’re only in the water for about 30, which was more than enough to see the cool underwater rocks.
Dori is as a fantastic guide through the Textonic Plates! She was amazing and very helpful!
Great experience with Dori! The water was amazing and such a unique experience. Dori was so informative about Silfra.
Our guide was amazing we had a lovely time.
What an unbelievable experience! Ines was extremely knowledgeable and made us comfortable and excited from the moment we arrived. She helped us suit up and learn about the geology and biology of Silfra. She struck the perfect balance of taking the cold water seriously and marveling at the wonders. The snorkel itself was out of this world. We felt like we were looking at the beginning of life on earth. Afterwards Ines had hot drinks ready for us to warm up and created a friendly conversation among our group. It was a stellar experience from start to finish!
Dory was a wonderful guide! Helpful and kind. Made getting into the suit easy and super enjoyable time snorkeling, we will remember this forever
Guide in my group was helpful - Though one of the other guides was a bit rough and lacked explanation of things/attire being put on you. Was nice to stay dry. Other group members affected by experience as they could not swim. If you have done the great barrier reef snorkelling or snorkelled in other colourful locations this might be a bit of a let down.
Dori was the BEST. So comforting and lively and patient And helpful.
Absolutely incredible experience at Silfra. We were running late, but our instructor Kaya was amazing about it and made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. Silfra itself is definitely an experience I’d recommend, but probably not for the faint-hearted. You’re putting yourself in a pretty unusual and potentially uncomfortable situation: freezing water, deep sections, tight spaces and being very aware that you’re underwater. If you’re not a confident swimmer, are uncomfortable with deep water or tight spaces, or struggle with holding your breath, I’d think carefully before doing it. For me though, the entire experience felt surprisingly easy and was honestly amazing. I’m a strong swimmer and comfortable holding my breath for long periods, so once we were in the water I could just enjoy how surreal the whole place is. A huge part of that was Kaya. She was super nice, patient and genuinely instructive throughout. Even during the dive, she was constantly making sure we weren’t rushing through different sections and would stop us to actually look around and appreciate what we were seeing. She talked us through everything really well and made the whole experience feel safe and relaxed. What stood out most was that you could tell she genuinely loves diving and enjoys what she does. That enthusiasm makes a massive difference when someone is guiding you through an experience like this. Absolutely loved it. One of the highlights of my Iceland trip, and a huge thank you to Kaya for making it such a great experience.
Great experience and our great guide Louis made us feel safe and entertained. Would recommend anyone going to Iceland to see Silfra.
One of our best experiences in Iceland- I can’t recommend our tour guide, Anil, enough. He, was thorough, kind, and patient with us- he made sure this was a fun and accessible activity and that all members in our small group were safe and comfortable.
Absolutely AMAZING experience!! DO THE WET SUIT! So worth it!!! The water was crystal clear and the whole experience was unforgettable. Our guide, Ines was incredible so friendly, funny and just a good time all around! . Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland! 💙✨ can’t wait to see the photos!
Great excursion! Ines was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable about the area, snorkeling/diving, and gave us a great recommendation for thermal springs. This was a once in a lifetime experience and would highly recommend to anyone wondering if it's worth it.
Wonderful experience! Went with my husband and teen boys, it was great for everyone. We have varying levels of skill and the guide, Arnil, was really great with each of us. The experience was breathtaking, I’ve never been in water so clear.
We had a really nice afternoon. Silfra is an extremely beautiful place and our guide, Ines, was very amusing, enthusiastic and helpful!
Silfra was beautiful, and Ines took great care of us. We had a wonderful time and it was a highlight on our trip.
This was an amazing experience. The dry suit was dry, it was cumbersome to walk obviously but the process to get over and back was a pretty well oiled machine. It was also cumbersome to swim in but it was well worth the effort. It takes a fair bit of team work and assistance to get in and out of the suits, our guide Inez (and several other lovely staff) was experienced and practical with dishing out that help. Inez was friendly and knowledgeable. We were booked in for 9, there was a short wait to get in once we were suited up, less than 5 minutes I think. The day was sunny so the visibility was flawless - if I could change one thing I would probably book for midday to get the sun overhead… except, on the way out of the water there was a fair queue forming, probably 20 -30 minutes waiting which would be annoying in the suits.
Capstone to my trip to Iceland. Kaya was professional, friendly and full of great info about the experience and Iceland. The visibility was amazing and I can say as an advanced open water diver, doing the snorkel experience was perfect, thanks for the adventure!
Our guide Kaya was the best part of the experience for me. She was very caring and helpful as she got us into our dry suits. Then she kept us entertained as we waited our turn to enter the water. It was really pleasant to make her acquaintance! I will say that wearing a dry suit is uncomfortable and not for the claustrophobic. Also you will probably still be quite cold in the water. The view under water is interesting but for me wasn’t worth everything else. There are also age and medical restrictions that might keep you from participating and these rules are not available unless you visit Viking Adventures website directly or once you show up in person. They are not disclosed on sign up or in the email communications. One of our family could not go due to this and Viking adventures would not refund her ticket.
Best experience ever. And adventure Vikings are amazing. I had a change in travel plan at the last moment, but the team accommodated me very nicely and with understanding. Special thanks to Bjarki for being so responsive on email. Also thanks to Kaya, who has been an amazing guide through out the adventure. She has good knowledge about the area and also the activity. She later shared some of her favourite places in Iceland for us to visit, which were amazing. Also, the GoPro pictures were amazing and she is fun. I would recommend booking your trip with them.
Incredible experience and totally worth the cost. Our guide was wonderful, the water was cold but only on your face and hands. Couldn’t recommend this tour enough, and hot cocoa after was just the cherry on top!
Ines was the best guide. She was aware of all of us in the water providing suggestions for those more timid and adventure for those seeking more. We felt like we were in very good hands.
Ines was unreal! Such an exceptional experience with her. 10/10 recommmend her as a guide through the opportunity of a lifetime to snorkel between two tectonic plates… she is photographer, your guide and your cheerleader through the experience!
Dory was a fantastic guide! Very knowledgeable and accommodating. She had thorough explanations of everything, we are so happy to have had her as a guide! The experience itself was unforgettable, once in a lifetime.
Doris was great !! Water was cold as expected, hot chocolate was great after. experience was 10/10
We really loved the snorkling, it was a great experience! And Dory was the best guide, experienced, fun and relaxt!
My friend and I happened to have our booking on a quiet day and we ended up having the guide to ourselves. Kaya was friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the park and minimizing environmental impact caused by visitors. I was new to snorkeling and Kaya gave us confidence with unfamiliar equipment. It was a beautiful experience and I am so glad that we made the choice to do this activity.
Doris was a great guide and was able to get us into the drysuits quickly so we could enjoy the rest of the experience.
Dory was an awesome guide. I was on my own and then one other couple joined, so in total we were a group of three. The shall group got lots of quips and banter with Dory and she let us float wild. We were told since it was just us friends we could touch whatever we wanted, drink the river dry, or bring things home with us. The views were gorgeous and my lips were numb, but this is a highly recommend activity while in Iceland.
It was great! Our guide was Dory, and she explained everything really well. She was helpful, kind and clear in instructions. We saw beautiful rock formations and Dory took fun photos of us underwater, which we all really appreciate. Definitely recommend!
Awesome otherworldly experience and Ines made it more amazing!
100000% recommend this tour with Dory! 🤿💙 Snorkeling between two tectonic plates in Silfra was one of the highlights of our Iceland honeymoon! I was equal parts excited and terrified, but once we got in the water, it was incredible. The hardest part was squeezing into the dry suit. 😂 Our guide, Dory, was amazing—sassy, fun, knowledgeable, and made us feel safe the entire time. We wrapped up the adventure be me getting yelled at by some birds 🤣 and warming up with hot chocolate. If you get Dory as your guide, you’re in for an unforgettable experience! 🇮🇸 Dory deserves 🍻
Dory was an amazing guide and the tour itself was beautiful!
Highly recommend this snorkeling adventure! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The guides were true professionals — knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable with their humor and great communication. They were easy to talk to and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. A well-organized, memorable experience that I would happily recommend to anyone!
Great expérience in Silfra with Inès our guide, the drysuit protect you from the cold water and float for you, so you don’t need to be a great swimmer to enjoy this experience. The view underwater is really amazing.
Amazing experence snorkeling in Glacier waters (which cant be replicated at most places in the world). Dari - our Guide was knowlegebale a stayed with my 10 year old nephew like a shadow.
Don’t expect pictures which is unfortunate- they lost ours! Book with a different company and make sure they a have a SD card in camera!
We loved the drysuit snorkeling with Ines! She took great care to make sure we were comfortable in our suits and in the water. The fissure is beautiful, and we loved the pictures!
Great visibility Kaya was helpful
Snorkeling between 2 tectonic plates is not something that the normal person can do. Usually snorkeling consists of a warm water island and seeing a lot of fish. Snorkeling in Iceland was very different. We had "dry" suits that kept us afloat and kept us dry. Doris, our guide, was excellent. She told us what to look at underwater and took many photos of my family and I with the GoPro she had. The water was cold, but it was crystal clear. You could see down to the bottom no matter how deep it was. The amount of time you actually stay in the water was about 30-40 minutes. It seems like a long time in cold water, but it passed very quickly. Even if you do not snorkel, you will be able to do this tour. Especially since the suit keeps you afloat. If you are going to visit Iceland, book this tour. The people are great, especially Doris.
Such an incredible experience! Kaya was an amazing guide while we snorkeled through the Silfra fissure. She was patient with our group as we got suited up, helped everyone through the whole excursion! She took time to check in with each couple multiple times as we moved around. She took plenty of pictures that she shared with us! Absolutely loved this snorkeling trip! I would highly recommend! Great start to our Golden Circle tour!
Our instructor was excellent really helped us enjoy the experience and relax as we snorkeled in freezing water. Team did a great job. Highly recommend this experience!!!
A brilliant and comprehensive experience! Ines was very patient and supported us throughout! We had a breakdown of our route and fitted with our gear before walking out to the site. Felt very safe and had breathtaking views. Thank you!
It was incredible Dory did a fantastic job. Would 100% go with her again
Well polished tour with highly experienced guide, Kaya. Was not as cold for us as we had expected. I was mostly shocked by how grey everything was above water, and then how colorful it actually was underwater.
