Reykjavik: Guided Northern Lights Tour With Hot Cocoa & Photos

I did two Northern Lights tours. One was with Nikos, one with Hjörtur. Both guides were fantastic and told us a lot about the northern lights and also how to find them.

This was such a wonderful experience, a highlight of the trip. Our guide Nikos was terrific. On the driving the drive to catch the northern lights he explained the science behind them and how they track them. He took all the professional pictures we wanted and uploaded them swiftly the next day. It was cold waiting for them so he made us hot chocolate and shared Icelandic treats with us. It did get cold so make sure to dress warmly, we took breaks to warm up on the bus and Nikos would yell to the bus for us to come out to make sure we didn’t miss anything. Would definitely recommend this experience

From the pick up, Nikos was very patient and supportive. He explained everything with much detail and we had a wonderful experience that Will remember for our entire lives. Fully recommended!

We had a great time trying to find the northern lights unfortunately we did not find them last night but while we were searching our guide Nicolas was informative, funny, courteous, and drove well. He tried his very best to find them thankfully, they allowed us to book again tonight free of charge so I’m looking forward to another tour.

Great tour with Arctic Adventures! Smooth pickup, exactly on time with zero waiting time. Our guide communicated well with us and worked hard to get us to see the Northern Lights. Comfortable vehicle with great wifi. The guide worked hard to get us the best possible experience. The photos and the hot chocolate and treats were a nice extra. Customer service was outstanding, answering all questions I had, especially about the bus stop pickup, etc. Small group vehicle was comfortable, driver did a great job navigating us safely. I highly recommend this tour!

Amazing Northern Lights tour with Palli! We didn’t have to drive far from the city and even got to enjoy some snow at the end. Such a magical night!

What a great night. Nikos, our guide took us to a great spot and after a few minutes the show started. The hot chocolate helped warm us up from the freezing temperatures. This tour was part of the Arctic Adventures Magical Aurora’s tour. I highly recommend going with Nikos’s as he’s knowledgeable and funny. We where out for full 4 hours and he made sure everyone got great shots with phones and cameras. This was well worth any price to view such a natural wonder.

Soooo excited to see some northern lights! Our guide (and his partner driver Ali) was informative and transparent about where we were going and what we were looking for. I enjoyed popping in and out of the van to warm up and hop out to see the lights as they changed and the cloud cover changed. Looking forward to our photos from the guide!

The guide was awesome, he explained why we see auroras and the factors around being able to see it. When we arrived, we received proper guidance about setting of our smart phones/cameras to take our own pictures, and what to look for in the sky. The hot cocoa was perfect for the chilly temperatures. And the pictures he took with his special camera are awesome. Highly recommend it.

Such a wonderfull experience. We went two times because the first time we didnt got a chance to see it. But Nikos was excepcional trying until last time to find the lights! We were fortunate enough to experience several night light bursts. We were expecting to go further away and far from the city but our stops were close to the highway that, with cars coming and going we had luminiscent contamination… 4 hours and a really great cocoa at the end completed our experience. Even though it says it is a small group, it wasn’t. We were like 20ish participants.

Nice and pleasant experience. Relatively easy pickup. Nikos was really helpful and nice to talk with. Also quite knowledge and good with small talks.

Overall a good experience. James, our guide did everything he could for us to see the lights, but unfortunately the conditions didn’t cooperate. Not sure if the value is there… a bit pricier than the whale watching tour we did and there’s no guarantee you see them either - so not sure why this is more expensive.

Nikolas was very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to see the lights. Even though it was cloudy he was able to find a location.

Bucket list item checked off in a spectacular way! Our driver, Nikos, was both knowledgeable and entertaining. He was as excited about the lights as we were. What a show! He took us to 3 different locations, but took the time to ensure everyone was on board with leaving one and going to the next. It was a fantastic night. Can’t wait to see the pictures he took. The hot chocolate was a welcome finish to the evening!

My experience was wonderful, as it was the first time I saw the Northern Lights. I recommend it. The instructor was very brief and explained the history of the auroras.

Booked with Arctic Adventures. No regrets! Totally worth the money! People always say to drive yourself and not pay for a tour but i think the professional photos i received alone were worth more than the tour itself. Our guide, Palli, was super knowledgeable and we were able to find the northern lights very quickly! Like in 30 mins! It was overall a 2 hour ordeal and we saw the lights from beginning til it started fading out and everyone was ready to go home. The pics are incredible! Also he made us hot cocoa which was so cute and such a vibe! Loved this experience so much! I went solo by the way. Thank you Palli!

Our guide Nikos was excellent and gave us really interesting expert knowledge on the northern lights on our drive to Thingvellir to our viewing point. He drove us to a second, quieter spot away from the bigger buses which was really appreciated. Highly recommend this tour!

Nice experience! The weather is unstable but the tour guide Nikos is professional and patient. He found a place where we can finally see the northern lights. Also, he took pictures with all of us under the lights. Great trip at all!

I was so disappointed our trip was cancelled on the Wednesday because of the weather but I would’ve been more disappointed if they had taken us out knowing we wouldn’t see anything. They allowed us to move our trip to Thursday & let me tell you it was the most special thing I have ever seen! It’s been on my bucket list for years to see the northern lights & it was worth every penny! We got picked up around 10pm, our pick up time was 9.30 so we were beginning to panic when everyone else who was waiting with us got picked up with their groups but we waited it out & the minibus came. We were the last pick up but frost drop on way home. Our guide Al was fantastic & full of knowledge! We drove about an hour out of Reykjavik & we saw them almost instantly! Al said it’s unusual it happens that fast as it’s usually a lot of driving & waiting so we were very very lucky! He took all of our photos & when we were happy we got our hot cocoa & got back on the bus to head back to our hotel. Highly recommend this trip & Arctic Adventures

Loved this tour. Our guide, Greta was fantastic. We did get to see the lights! Everything went smoothly, the bus was comfortable. We were done early because we saw the lights and were able to go back. I will say that I thought included photos would mean they would be there organizing photos so we wouldn't have to, but mostly the guide was available to take your picture. That was the only thing I felt like I misunderstood.

We had our trip cancelled a few times but finally went with Greta on Sunday and we were not disappointed. The spectacle was awesome, we were literally clapping in wonder. The lights just exploded above us. It lasted ages and just fulfilled every dream we had to see the lights. Greta was brilliant. And the hot chocolate very welcome as it was freezing. The absolute highlight of our Iceland holiday fabulous

Took this tour last evening with Palli(sp?). Forecast was moderately favorable. Pickup went without a hitch. It was a full bus, with some repeat customers from prior failed sightings. Palli was efficient & informative. We drove outside Reykjavík, maybe 1/2 hour, parked in a remote area, no others around, despite many tours being picked up at the same time. As we slowly disembarked, Palli ran back to the bus shouting “come!”. We were immediately rewarded by Lady Aurora. Subtle at first, definitely better seen through camera lens. To say it was mesmerizing is an understatement. Not one of us was left unmoved. We stayed at the same location for about 2 hours, during which time we delighted in the spectacle above us. The aurora was visible the entire time, shifting, changing patterns a locations, sometimes dancing. Even Palli said it was amongst the 5 best trips this year. We all took our own photos of differing quality & Palli was very generous with his photographic expertise, taking multiple shots of each of us with the aurora as the backdrop, as well as many of the light show alone. The hot chocolate & chocolate crispy treat were the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to get the link to Palli’s photos!

It was our second attempt and our guide, Palli was really kind and enthusiastic about the success of our tour. As a consequence of that, my wife and I got the most beautiful photos of the northern lights that we ever had. So we are very grateful with our guide.

We went to see the Northern Lights on March 10, 2026 and our tour guide was the absolute best! He was very knowledgeable about the northern lights and was very upbeat. He picked the perfect spot to see the lights. Highly recommended!!

We did a tour on February 5th and our tour guide that day was really knowledgeable. He drove over an hour North for any sightings, but to no avail. However, we still did enjoy some hot chocolate and Icelandic chocolate as a snack. I appreciate how this tour allows you to reschedule for another date free of charge if you are unable to spot some Northern Lights, in which we did for 2 days later. During our second trip, we headed East this time. Our tour guide, Palli, informed us of a small streak was visible, but only on camera, in which he showed on his camera. He let us know that it should be stronger after a few minutes and the results were true! Palli taught us how to set up our phones so we can capture it as well. With his professional camera, we were able to take as many photos as we wanted. Hot chocolate and Icelandic chocolate was also served. A good experiences overall.

Our guide Nikos was very knowledgable and shared a lot of impressice information with us. He also knew how to hunt for the Northern lights which was amazing as we did see them at our second stop which was a dream come true for me. We also stopped at another place first and while we did not see auroras there the stars were wonderful to see too. This company really does a great job with all their tours.

Amazing time and very lucky to see a fantastic display, thanks to the expert hunting by Hjortur and finding the best spots in the comfortable super jeep, off road and no crowds, just our Jeep. Hjortur was the best host, very funny and knowledgeable and some great photos. Thanks for making our experience so special.

Amazing experience, and the pickup and drop-off were also smooth. The tour guide was great as well. It really depends on the day, to be honest, but booking a tour helps.

We were incredibly lucky to see the Northern Lights in Reykjavik whilst waiting for the bus. However, we didn’t expect that due to our driver Nikos’ passion, knowledge and expertise that we would see them 100x better once we were out of the city. Whilst timing and luck play a huge part, so did Nikos expert knowledge and intuition. Nikos was fun, friendly and professional and took care of us all at all times. He took amazing photos of us all and has shared all photos with us for later download for free. The hot cocoa provided is no gimmick, it was the perfect finishing touch to a magical evening! The trip and the experience was amazing. We lucked out with the visibility that evening and our guide, Nikos, ensured we got to the perfect spot right on time to see the auras. Even in freezing temperatures I was brought to tears by how magical the evening was.

A great way to see the Northern Lights in Iceland. The first attempt, my tour guide was about 15-20 minutes late, but he was very knowledgeable about the northern lights. He drove over an hour up North, but unfortunately we were unable to catch the northern lights. We did have some great hot chocolate and Icelandic chocolate as a snack! This tour allows for free rescheduling if you weren’t able to see the northern lights, so I was able to reschedule for another date. I scheduled for 2 days later. Confirmation was received about 24 hours later. I would have preferred an earlier confirmation, but I understand that it was a short notice reschedule. And we were able to see the Northern Lights! Our guide took professional photos on his camera and we were able to take as many photos as we wanted! A good experience overall.

Prompt pick up by efficient guide who knew the lights were already active and was keen to get going. Arrived at secluded destination, 15 mins from Reykjavík centre and the lights did not disappoint. Our guide, Palli quickly set up his camera and took some amazing shots of people with the northern lights in the background, moving the camera a number of times to capture the moment. Palli was thrilled at the amazing display of lights, encouraging us to observe the shapes, intensity and dancing patterns. The hot chocolate was warming and welcome and we arrived back into Reykjavík by 11pm.

Fantastic experience made better by our excellent guide, Frieman (so sorry if I’ve spelt that wrong!) He knew exactly where to go for the best view and was very knowledgeable about the auroras. He was very friendly, the hot cocoa was delicious and we had surprise chocolate snacks too! Highly recommended!

Great experience and the best guide with artic adventure

Bucket list item delivered! Small Bus picked us up on time, driver/guide very friendly. Gave us many pointers about the lights on way out of town. First couple stops the lights were ok but not great. Guide kept going and finally said "this is the place". He wasn't kidding, exceeded all expectations. 20 plus minutes of horizon to horizon amazing rivers and showers of light. Highly recommend this company for comfort, experience, and delivery of the the best lights in Iceland.

Lovely informative guide. Greta was cheerful and informative. The small size of the group meant questions were answered and it felt like you had space to experience the northern lights rather than the coach tour we had been on where 6 coaches parked together. This was quiet and special. Thank you for a great evening. Never felt rushed to stop looking.

We did a tour on Jan 30, 2026 with the tour guide Radek, our photos were not uploaded as promosed while those of Feb 2 abd 4 were uploaded, I had emailed them and they just asked me to wait, until now, photos were not uploaded. The memory is important and we had left the country. We paid extra than a regular northern light tour for photography but we didn't receive any. What a ridiculous tour, I checked the review and this also happened to other clients. Shame to Arctic Adventure.
