Fun tour, tasty samplings. Our guide, Helga, was awesome! Highly recommend - she was knowledgable, funny, and kept our large group moving without feeling rushed.

Reviews
The food was delicious, especially the beer with mandarin notes. Also, Dargur was the best guide I have encountered so far in my Iceland trip, very knowledgeable and projecting a good vibe throughout the tour.
Fantastic tour of some of the best food places in Reykjavik. Our guide, Harry (best I can do phonetically, as his real name is like ‘Jurgenarryjokulkillersson’) was terrific. Funny, knowledgeable and clearly loves Iceland. We had two different kinds of lamb, some great cod, blue ling, snd of course the infamous fermented shark. That last one is a once-in-a-lifetime thing to try. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds. Topped off with the famous Iceland dog and dessert. Nummy all the way around. Highly recommended tour!
Fantastic combination of humour, history and food stops around down town Reykjavík. Stevie was the perfect guide. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone that is visiting.
Sigrún “Siggy” was Fantastic! The tour is great and we were able to taste all the many dishes of Iceland! Well worth the money. Don’t eat breakfast that day and do the noonish tour! you can also skip dinner! Siggy also explained so much extra for us! well done tour!
Siggy was a wonderful guide. She not only introduced us to the city but also shared her generation’s experience of life in Iceland. The food tour was well balanced, with just the right portion sizes. As a solo traveler from Taiwan, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
Hilda - her knowledge, energy and love of Iceland was great.
Was just the experience I had planned for my first day in Iceland. "Day" the tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable of local Reykjavik area. Truly great start to my holiday here.
Helga was amazing! Loved the tour! Highly recommend!!
Helga was amazing and very knowledgeable about the history of the city and food
Excellent introduction to Rekyavik and Iceland covering food, drink, history , mythology and how Icelanders live today. All the food establishments were excellent. Our guide, Bryn was knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining
Amazing tour guide, her name was Bryn. She was very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. So much fun, highly recommend!!
Dagur was a fantastic guide. He was engaging and funny and friendly. He made the tour very enjoyable.
Today was our first day in Iceland and the Food Tour with Siggy as our guide was the best way to experience authentic Icelandic food, drink and learn their traditions. She is well versed in all things Icelandic, could answer any questions, kept us on track and was very positive and upbeat! Highly recommend.
What an absolutely wonderful evening! We did the food tour on our first night in Iceland. MInty was a fantastic guide the whole evening. He provided great information on Reykjavik and about the restaurants we visited. The food at all of the stops was great. I have celiac and the company took great strides to make sure I could participate safely. Try the shark and the Brennivin. We loved it all and would do it again!
Our guide Elfie was fabulous. So knowledgeable and funny. She made the experience so fun. The food was great. A few of the dishes were amazing! It’s a fair amount of walking which was fine for us but if you aren’t very mobile that may be an issue for you. We enjoyed the tour through the city and learning history about the country and different buildings.
Stevie was a great guide. Great Experience!
Day was amazing! He was so knowledgable and made sure to explain everything and then some. He made it a comfortable place to meet strangers and explore the food and culture. Plus some good jokes!
Amazing afternoon food tour with Day. What a lovely person he is. The food was fabulous and because of Day the group bonded very quickly and a fun time was had by all. It was a great introduction to Reykjavik on our first day in Iceland.
We had a great time doing this food walk. Kathrin is very nice and did a good job explaining everything to us. Definitely worth every penny! Highly recommended if ever you’re in Reykjavik.
The Reykjavík Food Walk with Wake Up Reykjavík was hands-down one of the best experiences of our trip! The food was delicious and generous, and our guide, Stefán, made the tour unforgettable with his vast knowledge about Iceland and exceptional customer care- you won’t regret it!
Stevie was great and was very knowledgeable on Iceland history. Highly recommend.
Jenni? Was an awesome guide. Very engaging and encouraged group interactions. She went above and beyond for a member that was celebrating a birthday.
Our guide was amazing, his name was Day - thankfully he didn’t expect us to be able to pronounce his Icelandic name in full. He was informative , chatty and fun. Lots of energy to guide us well. A great food tour - lots of delicious Icelandic food tried.
Excellent behind the scenes advice and support from the office. Bonnie our tour guide was great. The food was very good and the restaurants were authentic.Dietary requirements were taken into account. Good fun and very good value for money.
Stevie was a great guide! He was super knowledgeable and friendly. The food was excellent, and the stories were just as rich!
Day was a great guide and a lovely guy. My wife and I really enjoyed the food and the experience.
My wife and I went on this tour about six months ago, and here I am writing a review on it, which should tell you that this tour will live in your head, rent-free, for the foreseeable future. We arrived in Reykjavik two(ish) days later than intended, due to flight delays and a lack of availability, which meant our original booking had to be adjusted for the food walk (You should definitely do this tour day one.) in order for us to be able to attend. I reached out to Wake Up Reykjavik, and they were understanding and accommodating, and we were able to get our reservation scheduled for a new tour. Now for the fun stuff: When we met up with our guide, Minty, I had absolutely no expectations or ideas on what Icelandic food entails. Minty did a great job of showing us around Reykjavik, enthusiastically sharing his culture and home with our group. The food can only be described with one word: AMAZING. There are foods on this tour that were so good I lament not being able to have them regularly in the States. Did I mention that Minty was a great guide? In the midst of the tour, he kept building small connections with the different people in our group, to make them feel truly included. He would offer advice for activities/sights to see after the food walk, and was just overall very knowledgeable and passionate about helping us have the best experience we could while in Iceland. That guidance led to an experience of Iceland that I haven't been able to stop thinking about for SIX MONTHS! Go on this food walk, you will not regret it!
This was a great way to sample foods from Iceland!! Dagur was an awesome guide and kept us informed of the history and got us interested and entertained during the entire walk. So glad I booked this excursion. Well done!!
Well organised with transport. Host told us exactly what to expect re clothes and how the path was up and down. No good if your balance is not good
Wow. Alfie was such a cherry on top of already amazing food! She gave us knowledge, conversation, recommendations, and all around an amazing time! My favorite from the tour was the arctic char by far but everything else was still delicious. Incredible experience for the price and I would do it again. Tak tak Alfie!
The Wake Up Reykjavik food tour was an incredible experience and a highlight of our trip. The lineup of local tastings is top-tier. Jenny was the absolute best part of the entire adventure. Her warmth, humor and infectious energy made us feel like we were exploring the city with an old friend.
Our tour guide Hildur was amazing! Highly recommend this tour. I would have loved to do this when we first arrived so we knew the best restaurants to go to.
Best food tour ever!!! Our guide was Jenny and she was absolutely fantastic. She gave us stories along the way and kept the energy flowing throughout. You definitely do not get hungry on this tour so go with empty tummy’s!
The food tour was an amazing experience. Quite the spread of dishes and varied decor in the spots we dined. A few items you could guess, but it still felt more than the sum of their parts. As usual with these types of tours, the guide was the star (Jenny “on the block”). She was fun, animated, and genuinely supported each guest to participate and enjoy in the merriment of the group. Jenny also shared fun stories about the places we visited and extra Icelandic/world traveler flair. There were a bunch of groups of people that joined, but at the end it felt we all came together. This was my second visit to Iceland as well as my second time booking this tour. Every time I return I plan to book this tour.
Jenny was so fun and shared some interesting facts around Reykjavik! Awesome to try different dishes local to Iceland.
Day was an awesome guide! He is personable, knowledgeable and funny! The food was very good and the sightseeing was a good orientation to the city. I highly recommend this tour
Such a fun tour! Dagur was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We had a mini city tour as we walked from eatery to eatery. The food stops were delicious. Highly recommend.
Food tour was wonderful. Learned a lot about local cuisine, and how to eat fermented shark! All restaurants were great and Katherine was an enjoyable enthusiastic host
Great experience of different local foods. Everything was yummy. Haddie our tour guide was the best. Enthusiastic, fun, knowledgeable of the food and history. Definately would go again.
Rosie is a terrific guide. She had fun stories about local folklore (13 Santa’s!) and culture. Her pace was reasonable and she made us all feel welcome. This was our second food walk with this company…..and if/when we return we’ll definitely do it again.
It was a amazing experience ! Thanks to Elfi who is a really nice and dynamique guide ! Icelandic food is so underrated and need to have a better visibility ! See you ! Nicolas BERTHELOT
A pleasant day trying different Icelandic dishes. Our tour guide was knowledgeable about the history of Iceland and the historical and cultural significance of the dishes presented.
Great food, great guide, great time. Very unique experience. Our guide, Rosie was the best! We had lots of fun. As a group.
Katrin was an amazing and very knowledgeable tour guide. She made sure everyone in the tour was enjoying and comfortable. Highly recommended. You can request her as a tour guide when you book the tour. We are officially a Viking after we tasted the fermented shark and Icelandic liquor, Brennivín.
Dagur Larisson was terrific! Knowledgeable, friendly and funny all at the same time. He ensured everyone knew and understood how the tour would work, what we were tasting and made it fun to try some new local foods. I congratulate him on doing such an excellent job with enthusiasm and cheer!
If you’re booking this food tour -request Alfie! The amazing energy, great food, and laughter are sooo worth it! It’s more than a food tour, you’ll also learn some fun history about Iceland. Alfie is so insightful! I would do it all over again (:
We started our first day in Reykjavik with the walking food tour to get a feel for the city, culture, and history while learning where and what to eat while we are here. Our guide Bonnie was very knowledgeable and fun. She was also extremely diligent helping to manage a handful of different dietary restrictions for some of the participants, requesting alternative options from the eateries we visited, and advising what dishes contained which allergens. We really appreciated that a lot, since the 3 in our group could have suffered during our stay if we ate the wrong foods. Bonnie’s stories were very entertaining, interesting, and she had us laughing while sampling the great food of Iceland. Even the fermented shark was not as bad as one would imagine, for those who were brave enough to try it.
My family and I had a great time on this food tour, which we booked through Viator. Our guide was Jenny, and she was awesome. She was fun and knowledgeable and really helped make our experience memorable. We visited 5 restaurants and enjoyed 8 courses. My favorite was at Matarkjallarinn, where we enjoyed slow-cooked cod with noisette hollandaise sauce, almonds, and smoked lamb pieces on top. We also tried the fermented shark at our fourth stop. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be, but that’s probably because we chased it with a shot of Brennivín! Our final stop at Loki introduced us to Rye bread ice cream, which was amazing! for those visiting Iceland, I highly recommend doing the food tour on your first or second day. It is a great way to introduce yourself to Icelandic culture and food.
Great way to see Reykjavik, enjoy Icelandic cuisine and yes, shark in many different, yummy way! Even the fermented!
