Itinerary
We meet up at Ingolfur Square to start our foodie adventure. Please be at the square 5 minutes before the start of your tour.
We start off down by the old Reykjavik harbor with a great appetizer: An Icelandic shellfish soup. You really should try out Icelandic seafood while in Iceland.
If you are so lucky to be walking with us during the day at weekends we add a fun stroll through the authentic small food market inside the Reykjavik Flea Market. There we discover all kinds of very traditional Icelandic Foods together. Keep in mind the Reykjavik Flea Market is only open Saturday's and Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
No Reykjavik Food Tour is complete without the Icelandic Lamb hot dog. But you must go to this food stall as it's the original one from 1937.
The Icelandic lamb soup is like Iceland in a bowl. Here we get the chance to sample this delicacy along with more traditional foods.
We stop at a local delicacy store and check out some unique Icelandic foods, snacks, and candy.

Great way to try small portions of traditional Icelandic food and learn about the origins of it. Would highly recommend doing a food tour.
What a fantastic experience! Our guide, Enair (I hope I've got his name right!) was absolutely brilliant. He was so friendly, knowledgeable, funny and entertaining. He had so many interesting stories to tell and made everyone feel relaxed and welcome from the start. The food was amazing and every restaurant we visited was brilliant. The lamb soup was definitely my favourite! We also ended up meeting some really lovely people along the way which made the whole experience even better. Such a fun way to explore Reykjavík, learn about Icelandic culture and try some delicious food. Would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland!
Gardar was our excellent and genial host. His knowledge and passion for Icelandic history shone through. He kept the conversation between a group of strangers flowing and we learned a lot. The food was an excellent mix of traditional Icelandic (we loved the lamb soup) and the dishes that are probably just for the tourists (fermented shark) but overall plenty of food. No need to book dinner afterwards! We'll probably return to some of the rwstaurants later in the week. Overall a very enjoyable evening and good value.
Our tour was hosted by Arni (and Valentine). Arni was an awesome tour guide! Every place we went to had incredible food. My group and I either tried going back again or visited once more while we were in Reykjavik. Arni blended food knowledge with awesome cultural lessons and answered so many of our questions. We can’t recommend him for any tour he does or Your Friend in Reykjavik enough!
We got a lot of food but it did not feel like much variety - 2 soups, a hot dog and some mashed potato and fish dish. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable but she struggled with the very diverse group and making it a cohesive experience. The experience could have been improved with food variety and a engaged group.
Lots of fun. Very full by end of the tour. Was able to try the fermented shark if we wanted to. Sweet finish. Walking food tours are the best; learned so much about local culture.
It was a wonderful tour … you get to taste, eat and also have a guided tour. Definitely value for money !! Would highly recommend
Arni provided a wide range of historical, cultural, and folklore information. His choice of indigenous cuisine catered to all palates.
Had a fantastic time. Our guide was knowledgeable and the tour was very interesting. I learned a lot and enjoyed the food! I appreciated her recommendations as well.
Bo was very funny and informative. Had a shark, needed a shnaps - would recommend it anyways. A fun tour, the price was ok and the 3 hours were just the right time.
Delicious stops along the way and a guide who was able to share lots of interesting info and answer all our questions
The tour was a great way for my husband's and my intial exploration of the city. Lau Lau (?) was a delightful guide and we enjoyed exploring the cuisine. I hadn't had a hot dog in years and I must say it was great.
Excellent food tour with Bo. He’s very knowledgeable of Iceland, its history and fun to listen to. We’d recommend this tour . Thank you again, No! Sharlene & Rick CT USA
Other people enjoyed this tour, but I am a celiac and I reached out several times before the tour to ask if they could accommodate me and they never got back to me. I showed up at the beginning of the tour and asked again and they said they could accommodate me. But, we stopped at five places, and at two of them I could eat nothing. I think they could have done a better job trying to accommodate me or at least have told me ahead of time. Also, they could’ve reduced my fee for the foods that I was not able to eat.
Maria was excellent in explaining the origins and customs of the Icelandic people. We enjoyed tasting all the Icelandic foods with Maria G … well, perhaps not the fermented shark. Highly recommend.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We tasted a variety of traditional foods and the portions were generous. Stefan was a wonderful guide with a great sense of humour and many Icelandic anecdotes and facts to share which added value to an already most enjoyable tour.
Our guide, Palli, took us to some good places, and told us much about the food and the culture. It was a memorable experience.
Great variety of food and great conversation with our guide. Was great to have a true Icelander (actual descendant of Leif Erikison) to show us around. His love of his country was evident.
Fantastic little tour! Our guide was on point with excellent advice and the food was out of this world!
We started our trip in Iceland with this tour and it was such a great decision!! Our tour guide was amazing, he was so personable and truly made us feel like friends. The food was amazing and definitely funky 😂 highly, highly recommend!!!!
Wonderful tour. Our guide Kristin was amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and had all the bases covered. A great time of winding some Reykjavik streets with some new friends, learning about the local history and walking with great anticipation for our next Icelandic culinary delight!
This was a great experience to get a taste of some Icelandic dishes and delicacies. Arnie was a great guide with a wealth of information. The food choices were very good.. My wife and I enjoyed the lamb soup and the local hot dog. My favorite was the mashed fish.
The tour is an easy walking pace, and the food stops are paced out nicely so that it doesn’t feel like one after another after another. Our tour guide was Arni, and he was friendly and gave tidbits on Icelandic history.
Our local food tour and tasting opened our eyes to Iceland’s unique and fascinating food culture. What an experience—we truly enjoyed every moment of it! A special thank you to Maria S. for her wonderful introduction and fascinating insights into the local culture. It was such a treat to taste, learn, and experience Iceland through its food. We absolutely loved it and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! 🇮🇸❤️🍽️
We really enjoyed the food tour with Sveinbjörn! He is an amazing, chill guide who entertained us and all of our questions on our tour. It was interesting learning about Iceland, the food, getting recommendations, and just getting to know him as well. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the city. I wish we had time to do a folklore tour with him too. It was a small tour of three people and we spent around 4-4.5 hours because we all enjoyed talking with each other so much! The food was well portioned and we ended up being very full by the time our tour was over. Don’t skip the fermented shark!
I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Great food
This tour is a great way to explore authentic Icelandic cuisine! Our guide, Arni, shared wonderful tales of history and daily life in Iceland. He provided us with a thoroughly enjoyable experience!
Fun first night in Iceland. Our guide was very educational and enjoyed all the food we got to sample, even the fermented shark.
Great way to start your visit.
This tour was good. Small portions at about five different places the tour took three hours with walking in between each place. Loved the variety the food and the walking. The lamb soup was my favorite. The last stop included a stew, a drink, and dessert! Unfortunately our tour guide was not good. There were only four of us on the tour and most of the time, only one of us could hear him. He had many stories about his own life, but did not tell us much about the town or even the food we were about to eat. This would have been a five star tour had we had a better tour guide
Such a fun food tour in Reykjavik! We had a nice group and Gardar was a wonderful guide - friendly, knowledgeable and great about accommodating dietary restrictions. Delicious (and interesting!) food and an enjoyable way to experience the city.
Had a wonderful food tour of Reykjavik with our guide Einar. Tried several traditional Icelandic food like the hot dog, lamb soup and chocolate licorice. Would definitely recommend when visiting Reykjavik!
Wonderful tour to learn about the traditions and food of the country. Our guide Maria G. was very knowledgeable and interesting! Recommend!
We loved our food tour with Maria G! She was an excellent guide, with a depth of knowledge about history and the local food. She was friendly, had a good sense of humor and kept us interested and engaged throughout the tour. We had just arrived in Iceland after a long travel day and thought this would be a good start to our Iceland experience. I would recommend this tour and Maria G in particular to anyone that wants to explore some of the traditional foods. We even tried the fermented shark, and we all thought it wasn’t as bad as we had heard, especially with the Brennivin.
Maria G was fantastic. So much knowledge about Iceland and its food and history. Stops were fun and delicious. We really enjoyed our time with her. It went by too fast.
I was amazed as our lovely guide was not only a friendly and lovely person, but also trained in food industry. It made such a difference as she could explain things in a profound way. Food tours are always a great way of getting to know the local people and their preferences and they are very social as well, if you feel depleted after all the hiking.
We had Maria G! She was wonderful - very knowledgeable about history and VERY nice!! Would recommend
Maria G was absolutely fantastic. We got more than just a food tour. Having just gotten off of our flight and all being 1st time visitors, Maria gave us a ton of info about Iceland and also introduced is to traditional food and its history.
Maria was great! The lamb dog was one of the favorites. She has a lot of Interesting history also.
Maria was lit. Shark was dope. Top it all off with a Bill Clinton approved glizzy. What else could you ask for?
María G was phenomenal! She was so high energy and fun. She had great knowledge of the town and all the food shops. She took her time explaining everything which definitely helped the experience even further. Go with Maria G!!!
Maria G Was was a total G on our tour get her. Don’t get anyone rock out.
Maria G was amazing! Great time and food was amazing
Very well-informed tour guide, even when filling in for a regular, and incredibly tasty food and fun company. A great way to get oriented with the yummy food of Iceland!
Bo was an excellent guide through lamb soup, Icelandic hotdogs, gravlax, goose and more. What a great first meal(s) in Reykjavik!
Beau was very informative and brought us to great spots. He made some jokes and made the experience pleasant.
Great walking tour with intriguing food and great local gude.
Really good tour; our guide Arne was a native of Iceland and shared many interesting stories of the country's history and the food we tasted. The area of the tour was very interesting and the food was great. Highly recommend this tour and tour guide.
Wonderful variety of food offered. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind! One thing to consider is that you walk about 2 to 3 miles which includes on small hill.
