This ATV tour was a truly wonderful experience with some of the most gorgeous landscape I've ever seen. We rode through lava fields with mountains all around us, and along the way we got to see Iceland's geothermal processes up close, passing the geothermal plants and learning the history of how the island harnesses that power. It felt like a real off-roading adventure, not a tame trail ride. Our guide went above and beyond to show us the mountains and make sure we got the most out of every stop, including time for photos in the most stunning spots. The gear provided kept us warm and dry, and the whole tour was well organized from start to finish. A highlight of our trip to Iceland and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting.

Itinerary
Your experience begins at Litla Kaffistofan, about 20 minutes from Reykjavík. After a safety briefing, you will be provided with insulated overalls, helmet, and gloves before setting off on an ATV into the Hengill geothermal region. You will ride across the Svínahraun lava field, formed around the year 1000 AD, following gravel tracks through rugged lava covered in moss. The route continues into an active geothermal area with visible steam vents. You will pass the Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, where underground heat is used to produce electricity and hot water. Your guide will explain how geothermal energy is used in Iceland. The tour includes a stop in the Hveradalir geothermal area, where you will taste traditional Icelandic rúgbrauð (rye bread) baked in an oven heated by geothermal energy, without electricity. You will also see geothermal activity up close. Please remain on marked paths. Depending on the option selected, the tour will either remain in the Hengill area (1-hour option) or continue deeper into the landscape (2-hour option), including Jósepsdalur valley and views of Vífilsfell volcano. The tour ends back at Litla Kaffistofan.

Great tour with ride to top of mountain and then to geothermal pools. Guide was great and informative. Ride was mostly smooth with a few mildly rough areas. Highly recommend. Expensive cab ride from Reykjavik.
Had an amazing experience on the ATV tour. Landscape was amazing and out tour guide Sindri was very considerate and knowledgeable. 10/10 would recommend.
Our tour was amazing and the guide Jordy made the experience even better. He was very knowledgeable and never made us feel unsafe. Highly recommend.
During the ride, the guide kept urging us forward. His attitude was terrible and he completely ignored safety concerns.
It was a great experience and Hinrik was an amazing guide
This was an excellent tour which took us to an old plane wreck. Hats off to Jordy for providing us with special help and for his high spirit and enthusiasm. He made the day.
Great experiencia Jordy Vaesen great!!!!
Bjarki was amazing! Gave us so much information and was so friendly!
Cool scenery, fun ride. Felt like we were at places that normal tourists could not get to. Bjarki (our guide) was cool. Friendly guy. Very knowledgeable. Very entertaining. He can do the spinny thing with the ATV which was cool.
Nothing to complain about Guide was awesome and gave us really good info about volcanos and glacier.
Magnus was an awesome guide, touring us through volcanic landscapes. He was very thorough, teaching us and the kids about geothermal energy. Was really fascinating stuff! Took us to various spots to share information, but our favorite part was the end when we went on trails, splashed through puddles (was raining and made it even more exciting!) and sped into a old glacier area that felt like we were driving rovers on mars vs. atvs in Iceland. I’d highly recommend this tour - it was one of our most memorable moments of the trip!
It was amazing and so much fun!
My tour guide was Hinrik Orri Thorsson. He was a spectacular tour guide and told amazing stories about Iceland history. I loved him as a tour guide. Give him a promotion ASAP
Such an amazing experience absolutely worth the money! My boyfriend and I had a fantastic experience with an excellent guide named Henrik. He explained everything clearly and with great enthusiasm, and it was obvious that he was passionate about what he was doing. He really brought the stories to life, making the whole experience both exciting and informative. We left with great memories and would highly recommend this to anyone considering it!
What a fun experience! We drove an ATV on black sand beaches, saw the U.S. Navy plane that crashed 50 years ago, and proceeded to a beautiful canyon. Our tour guide Jorby was professional, helpful, and informative about the area, its history and geology. Thanks for a great tour!
It was the best tour with Jordy! First you get your suits and a security briefing before the tour takes place. As soon as it starts the fun part begins! Jordy takes care of everyone and was also explaining us a bit about the volcanos which wear close. The trip ended in a beautiful canyon before we got back to the camp. It’s a really nice tour! We recommend it!
Nice tour very well guided by Sindri
