A Fantastic walking Food Tour of Reykjavík! 🇮🇸 A great way to explore Reykjavík and sample some traditional Icelandic food! We enjoyed delicious lamb soup, a brave little taste of fermented shark, local craft beers, lovely pastries, the famous Icelandic hot dog and fresh fish of the day. We finished off with a delicious cocktail! A special mention to our fantastic guide Jon, who was friendly, knowledgeable and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A brilliant informative tour with a wonderful variety of food and drink. Would definitely recommend!

Fabulous afternoon. Our guide Jon, gave us a gastronomic tour or the local hidden secrets of Reykjavík. Definitely recommend.
What a great tour with Jon! He’s such a nice guy, very chatty, funny and informative. He told us about the history of Iceland and Reykjavík as we walked from pub to bakery, the oldest hot dog stand, a lovely restaurant and stunning cocktail bar sampling delicious food and drinks at each venue. The tour was well worth the money and we would readily do another tour with Jon if we visit Iceland again.
Amazing tour guide highly recommend this for any looking to have a great time. Tour guide was very friendly and informative
Jon was amazing the experiance was amazing the food the drink the conversations all amazing. do it. u wont regret it
Definitely recommend doing this on your first afternoon/evening in Reykjavik. Our guide, Atli, was super knowledgeable and friendly. He knew everyone at every restaurant/bar we went to, and so ordering food/drinks at each place we visited was super smooth. The bakery we were scheduled to visit was closed for renovations, and so he took us to a bar that locals attend regularly, including himself. We met the drummer for the band Kaleo while we were at that local bar!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland! My husband can't stop talking about it, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Jon, a co-owner of tour operator Nordic Nonsense (@nordicnonsense1), met us for the tour, and thanks to a last-minute cancellation, it turned out to be a private experience with just the three of us. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better afternoon! One thing that made this tour so special was the relaxed pace. We had time to explore the city, savor the food and drinks at each stop, and actually talk with Jon. We never felt rushed. It felt less like a formal tour and more like spending an afternoon with a friend who happens to be an expert on Icelandic food, history, and culture. We started with a bit of walking before our first stop, where we enjoyed a flight of beer, lamb stew, and the famous fermented shark! Next was BakaBaka, an absolute favorite. The pastries and coffee were delicious, and the bakery itself was so charming and cozy. Jon mentioned that their pizza was also fantastic, so we returned for a quick bite before our Northern Lights tour that evening. He was right—amazing! We meandered past a few cultural landmarks before arriving at the famous hot dog stand. Jon recommended getting the hot dogs with "everything," and I can confirm: TRUST HIM. We then settled in at Tivoli Bistro for fresh fish with root vegetables and our choice of beer or wine. Delicious! Throughout the afternoon, Jon shared stories, pointed out cultural highlights, took photos of us, and recommended some of his favorite local spots that weren't even on the tour. He was knowledgeable, funny, welcoming, and genuinely delightful to spend time with. Our final stop was Jungle Cocktail Bar. I'll be real: I'm picky about a good cocktail, so let me tell you, this place delivered! I ordered the Bear Necessities, a gin cocktail with honey, garam masala, mango, and lemon. It was wonderfully creative and absolutely delicious. And here's one more reason Jon deserves a shout-out: the tour happened to fall on my birthday, and he surprised me with a candle and a special shot. Such a thoughtful, unexpected touch that made an already wonderful afternoon even more memorable. Jon, if you're reading this, thank you again! And thank you for recommending Skál for dinner. It. Was. Beyond. Literally one of the best dinners ever. If you're visiting Reykjavík and want to experience its food, drinks, culture, and local character, book this tour! The food is fantastic, the pace is perfect, and tour guides like Jon (I'm sure his partner is great too!) make the whole experience feel personal and special. Two thumbs up for this unforgettable tour!
Atli was warm welcoming and informative on the tour. The walking was very easy and not at all taxing. The food represented Icelandic cuisine well, even the fermented shark (which didn’t deliver the same dread as some would have you believe!) Highly recommended tour from Nordic Nonsense.
That it was well worth it. I would highly recommend tour, you won't be sorry. Lots of fun. Bring your appetite.
Absolutely incredible experience! So much fun! So much excellent food and great drinks! Absolutely exceeded my expectations! Jon was an epic tour guide and I hope our paths cross again. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Extremely personable experience. Was full by the end of the tour. By the end we made some good friends. Great idea.
It was a rainy Saturday and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction to Iceland than the tour we booked with Atli, from Nordic Nonsense. We tried shark, brennevin, lamb stew, kleina, hot dogs and so much more. We walked past historic buildings, learned about local shops and the economy in Iceland, and ended the day with a sense of direction when it came to our next few days exploring. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visting Reykjavík.
Excellent tour! Amazing stops throughout the day with the perfect amount of history, food & drink. Our guide Jón was phenomenal! Highly recommend!
Jón was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable, friendly, fun & accommodating. I highly recommend Jón as a guide & this tour, if you want to get a bit of history & some great food!
Really excellpent tour. Enjoyed of the stops we made and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Our guide Jon was so knowledgeable about the city and its history. He had also planned several delicious restaurants and bars for us to visit, we even tried the local delicacy of fermented shark! Highly recommend!
Book this tour! It’s the perfect mix of great food, local knowledge, and delicious beverages. Jon was informative, funny, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. We learnt about Iceland whilst having a really good time along the way. Highly recommend!
Great food and drink tour! Our guide, Nordic Nonsense, was incredibly knowledgeable and did a wonderful job sharing the history behind each restaurant and bakery we visited, as well as the history of Reykjavík and Iceland. The variety of food and drinks was fantastic and gave us the opportunity to try a wide range of traditional and modern Icelandic dishes. We really enjoyed our time on the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone spending time in Reykjavík!
Atli, the native Icelander, was a fantastic tour guide on our Reykjavik food tour. We enjoyed the food, drink, and especially Atli's tour filled with historical facts as well as personal knowledge and experience growing up and living in Iceland and tracing his family roots to the first settlers. We learned about traditional foods and were pleased to see the highlights of historical sites and governmental buildings - there were many historically significant points of interest that we would have otherwise walked by without realizing. The food and drink left us filled, happy, and feeling as though we had an authentic Iceland experience. Thanks Atli for a great tour! This tour will give you the fix experience as well as the key points in the city center - highly recommend!
We had a small group and a great time with our guide, Atli, on the food and drink tour. He took us to some great places where we shared food and drinks while he told us about the history and stories of Reykjavik and Iceland along the way. He also answered about a million questions from us! Atli made the evening feel relaxed, fun, and personal. It felt more like exploring Reykjavik and its traditional foods and drinks with a local than being on a typical organized tour. We would definitely recommend this tour and Atli as your guide. It was one of our favorite experiences in Iceland.
A fantastic tour of downtown Reykjavik with wide range and broad selection of Icelandic food. Jon is an excellent guide and gave us so much information about the history and culture of Iceland. We started off with local beer tastings and traditional lamb and vegetable soup. Both were amazing. Also tried the fermented shark and a wonderfully soft rye bread. Then an assortment of baked goods and coffee at Baka Baka, one of the oldest bakeries in the city. We sampled the famous lamb hot dogs and then sat down at Tivoli for fresh fish caught that morning, with more beer and wine pairings. Wrapping up with fancy cocktails at Jungle bar where Jon served us freshly made cheese and jam from an Icelandic farm that his wife's family operates. Needless to say everything was really delicious and Jon was so friendly and accommodating. He told us so many stories about Icelandic culture and we peppered him with question after question. He also took up to various sites and gave us the history of how Iceland gained independence, which shops have the best hand knit sweaters, and a local artist who makes uniqur pottery and cups. We take food tours in every new city we visit and this was one of the best ones we've been on. Highly recommended.
This was an excellent food tour. Our guide, Atli, was very knowledgeable, informative, friendly, and made everything fun. The tour had just the right number of stops at different restaurants. - and even a hotdog stand so that we could try one of the famous Icelandic hot dogs. Just a great mixture of traditional Icelandic foods and a variety of perspectives on the Reykjavík food scene. Although I would not recommend the fermented shark, it was still a must do! I did this tour on my first night in the city, and it was a great introduction.
The tour introduces you to a wide variety of Icelandic food, and the general food scene in Reykjavík. Oh, and it’s also very fun!
Best food tour I have ever been on! The guide, a co-owner of Nordic Nonsense was great. The food was not all delicious, especially the fermented shark, but we tried it anyway. The baked goods were fabulous and the spirits even better. Highly recommended.
I booked this thinking it would be a fun foodie tour but it was half history lessons mostly standing up around town. I wouldn't mind a little info but my back and feet were killing me. As far as the food it was average but the hot dog was downright gross and we had to wait in line for an hour for it. The rest of the food and drinks were OK. The last 2 stops were the best - the Italian restaurant and cocktails. This tour would be much better if it were significantly less history and cut out the hot dog stop.
The best food and drink tour I’ve taken. Jon is from Reykjavik and shared his many experiences growing up with us. Tons to eat and drink. Highly recommend.
We just arrived in Iceland and were looking for something to do as a group of eight so we could stay awake, eat some local food and learn a bit about the area. We stumbled upon this food and libations tour online and booked it two hours before the start. Boy are we glad we did this! Sveinn was our guide and we had an amazing experience. He was personable, knowledgeable and you could tell he cared about the experience we were having. The food and libations at each location were delicious. He was also so generous in sharing his love and knowledge about all of Iceland and gave us wonderful suggestions and not to miss experiences for the rest of our trip as well. Highly recommend!!
Svenni was a wonderful local guide, with plenty of useful information, fun to chat with. We had a diverse array of food and drink - microbrewery beer, a bite of famous Hákarl with schnapps, local fish, and of course a hot dog.
This tour checked all the boxes, traditional dishes, fun spots and plenty to eat and drink. However the best part of the tour was our guide Magnea. She was warm, knowledgeable and fun. Our group of 6 was totally satisfied and we would recommend this tour and Magnea to anyone.
Very enjoyable tour, good food and conversation! The local beer we tried was great and the iconic hot dog stand was too!
Great experience! Guide very knowledgable and we were able to sample many different local foods - including the hot dogs and fermented shark (yuck!)
Our guide was informative about the history of Reykjavík, she took time to answer our questions and was very personable. The different foods and beers offered were authentic Iceland and great. The only other thing I wish was offered is ice cream. This is my second food tour in Reykjavík and it was another great experience.
Come hungry. There are two sit-down meals, with beer, wine or soda, a stop at a popular hot dog stand, a patty shop and a cocktail bar with hot dourves. The guide conveyed alot of Icelandic history while we walked from place to place. Would have preferred an ice cream stop instead of donuts.
We loved this tour! Svenni was a wonderful guide and made us feel as though we were out for an evening with a group of friends. He introduced us to traditional Icelandic foods and answered our many questions about his country. Come hungry! There was plenty of food and drink.
Loved this food tour. Our guide Jon was great and gave us lots of interesting history about sites along the way. There was so much food and drink. Definitely bring your appetite.
I highly recommend this food tour. Everything was delicious or it was fermented shark 😂. Trying the traditional food this way was great as you got to learn some history as to why it was eaten. Our guide was friendly and funny. As non-alcohol drinkers we still loved trying the local beers (passion fruit and coffee were our favorites) and the mocktail we got at the end was wonderful!
The guide made the tour. Thanks for a wonderful evening. The spots you showed us were great, but your delivery made the tour. The best.
Fantastic Icelandic "food and facts" tour! The selected locations and food were a great cross-section of foods to try and enjoy with nice background stories. Our guide, Atli was very knowledgeable and accommodating, answering all of our group's many questions about Iceland and Reykyvik! His catch phrase of "Depends on who you ask" was quickly adopted by the group and our discussions! Really personalized the facts! He also went above and beyond by personally purchasing his favorite treat and sharing with the group at our last stop! Only challenge we had was on the initial meetup. Our vouchers said in front of the church, behind the statue. We met up with the participants behind the statue and the guide was at the front door of the church, so it took a while and couple calls to connect. Maybe a sign or badge to make connection easier?
Great experience! A perfect way to see several locations and try multiple foods and drinks, especially while traveling solo. We had a very convenient group of just three tourists plus our wonderful guide. That made moving about so simple. Informative, tasty and with the advantage of beer tastings and cocktails galore!
What a great introduction to Iceland and local foods and drink. Alti was a wonderful, knowledgeable, and fun guide going above and beyond expectations
What a wonderful tour the food was great and the guide was even better. It was a great way to start out our trip in Iceland. It was particularly nice because the group was a little smaller than the average tour operators and I think you will enjoy the benefits of asmaller group
Svenni was a fantastic tour guide! We learned so much about Icelandic history and culture and had so much fun touring the city. It was a highlight of our trip to Iceland!
As someone traveling solo, I definitely was nervous but Svenni was a great guide and did a great job keeping us all engaged. All the spots he took us too were great and were also places I looked at and thought to myself, “I want to go in there!” But was too nervous to go alone so I was glad we got to go to many of those places! Would absolutely recommend solo or not!
This was one of the best food tours any of us had been on. Great guide, great and plentiful food and drinks. Highly recommend!
A fantastic food tour put together by Nordic Nonsense with a wonderful collection of both traditional and modern dishes. The tour also includes great local beers and an amazing cocktail at the end. Our guide, Atli, was simply wonderful. He gave us an insightful look at the region's history, as well as a local's perspective on Reykjavik. Highly recommend!
What an excellent tour! Just a great way to get introduced to a city. Learned a lot about Reykjavik and Iceland. Our guide was knowledgeable, open to questions and generally cares about his country. We always love the idea of getting a taste of local fare. The food options we felt were authentic and diverse and always paired with a really good local beer. The tour was about 3.5 hrs but it was just the right pace, never felt rushed and a perfect start to an evening
Great tour. Guide was funny and informative. Nice variety of food and beverage options. He answered all of our questions.
Sveny was great! Very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. Had a great time tasting the different foods and beer. If you like all the options offered, we will be fun.
We had a fantastic experience with Sven. He is very flexible, knowlageable and has a great sense of humour. Great local food, excellent beer and super guide. We highly recommend.
Fantastic food and lots of different presentations. My personal favorite item was the rye bread. Nice chance to select your beers/drink. Guide was friendly yet kept the group of 11 guests moving at a comfortable, enjoyable pace. The stories were very interesting/informative.
