Amazing experience from start to finish! From the transport (I forget his name) to the guide staff, they were all so friendly and knowledgeable. They have a good set up and well equipped for all weathers. The Icelandic horses that they have are so calm that you really feel that they are looking after you! I even tried a Tölt which ended up a canter 🤦🏻♀️ I really can’t recommend this experience enough 🤗 it is such a great way to spend a couple of hours but such an even better way to experience Iceland.
It was wonderful riding the Icelandic horses through a very picturesque trail through the old lava fields. The staff was very nice and informative. I was able to get some excellent photos with their help as well.
From pick up to drop off, am exceptional experience. The guides were patient kind and fun amd the horses were sweet and strong.
Really good experience. I was worried we wouldn't get as much time on the hores because we started late but it still seemed to be the time promised. Guides were very nice and tried to get to know the participants. It was beautiful area that we rode through. Horses were very nice and had a great temperament.
Booked 2 pm tour 24 hours before so I could check weather. Lucky they had a vacancy. Charlotte checked us in supplied helmets & rain jackets. We were shown through stables very clean. Horses were well behaved. we were asked our riding experience were matched up with horses. Given a demonstration on how to hold reins, steer & get horses to move & how to sit going up or down hill etc. safety was very important - crossing the road staff member on horse did traffic control. Staff took photos for groups at a set photo stop. Enjoyed the peaceful quiet & scenic 2 hr trip which was plenty long enough. Senior staff member only took riders with over 100 rides to experience the Icelandic horses special gallop. We were happy to just walk & do follow the leader style. None of our group were experienced riders.
This was a great experience! They split our group into two— experienced and beginners. The experienced group got to tolt which is an awesome experience!
Such a great experience! The horses and guides were wonderful. The views are stunning and totally worth a visit. It was very quick from city center.
Not worth it at all. Very strict crew and the scenery is basic at best. The main instructor is rude & very off putting
What a wonderful tour. Is doesn't mind if you have never ridden before or that you are an experienced rider. The tour is good for both. Very nice staff who help you with all your questions.
My first time riding a horse and absolutely loved the experience, beautiful animals, the views were stunning, the guides were very friendly and helpful, pickup and drop-off from Reykjavík was nice and easy, would definitely recommend doing this tour wether you're experienced rider or never done it before, it's different worth doing, an experience you will never forget.
Brilliant experience, I was riding a horse for the first time and it was amazing experience, the guides were amazing, the sights to see along the way while riding were incredible, would definitely recommend this tour.
The ride was very fun, beautiful scenery! There was road traffic noise for part of it, but not terrible. The pickup came at 28 minutes past the time, which had us nervous, but the time on horseback was not cut short. The guides were friendly and helpful. The beginner herd did not tolt at all.
This was very well organized, I was picked up on time and transferred to the farm. The girls helping us were very organized and kind. I am a beginner so was happy to just sit on the horse and walk along some lovely trails. The girls were kind and took photos of everyone. Then we were transferred back to our meeting place when the ride was over. The more experienced riders got a chance to go in a different group and go faster .
The whole experience from pick up to getting on the horses and riding was wonderful. The guides were super friendly and nice and matched me with the perfect horse. My horse and I had so much fun together as she taught me the Icelandic tölt natural gait. Very worthwhile adventure.
The horses are well taken care of and the guides are knowledgeable and welcoming. Free parking on site and they provide rain gear for wet days. A wonderful experience overall- I would recommend!
This horse riding experience was phenomenal. I noticed that the entire place was led by women who were all exceptional and highly professional. I just loved the tour (even in the rain), and the sharing of hot cocoa and coffee at the end was a wonderful treat. Please keep up the great work, ladies!! Girls RULE!!!
A nice horse ride with a good view! This was my first time riding a horse and it well. The instructors were very informative and gave clear directions. The scenery was very beautiful and they make a stop to take pictures of you and your party. Make sure you are prompt!
Had a great time with the horses! Lovely people also :)
The tour operators were very organized and clear with their reminder communication. The guides were friendly, chatty, and very easy to be with. I would have preferred having even a short time on the horses at a pace, faster than a walk, as I wished to experience their specific gait, but I understand that the majority of the people on the tour had never been on a horse before. The trail and scenery were wonderful.
This was a fantastic experience! The guides were very sweet and helpful, the horses were fun and easy to ride, the views were beautiful. Highly recommend!
We absolutely loved this experience, so special to ride Icelandic horses in a lava field in Iceland. The Guides are lovely and took the time to make sure we were comfortable with our horses and gave us clear instructions and checked on us throughout the ride. You stop for a photo opportunity and they take great photos for you. Don’t worry if the weather looks rainy, they dress you in coats and boots, and it’s still a special ride. Don’t hesitate , just book it.
Staff were super sweet and were aware of every participant. They genuinely cared for both the people and horses.
Just enjoy every moment ! What an amazing feeling and beautiful sights to see . As a solo traveller with zero horse riding experience I would highly recommend !!
Really enjoyed the ride, especially being able to experience the Tolt. The guides were lovely and patient and, being an experienced rider, really appreciated being able to try the Tolt on my beautiful horse. Highly recommend the experience.
Great experience - the group was split at one point between more experienced riders and lesser ones and so there’s nothing to be concerned if you’re new to riding. The horses are well kept and I had a very cooperative one. The staff were excellent and were very thorough in their explanation of safety and the ride in general.
Karolina, our guide, was amazing. Punctual, clear pick up. The ride itself was stunning and was a lengthy amount of time for the price. Loved this excursion!
We were picked up in Reykjavík along with several others and brought to the riding stables about 30 minutes outside the city. The stables provided boots and rain gear for those who needed them which was very helpful! There were about 20 people in our group of riders along with 3 guided (all young women from other EU countries, not Iceland, unfortunately their English was limited) and we mounted up in a small corral with no mounting blocks and set off on a nose to tail walking ride in a parkland just for horseback riding. After a few minutes the guides divided the group into 4 “advanced“ riders who were able to try tolting, and the rest who spent the ride walking nose to tail. There was limited guidance or instructions on how to tolt. The total time riding was just 90 minutes . At the end we asked to brush our horses and were told no. Since the group was so large we felt like just one of many, at least half the total time was spent in transportation back and forth to the city and getting the whole group dressed and mounted, and the guides did not teach or communicate very much about the horses or the landscape . Unfortunately this did not feel like a “special “ experience and did not live up to my expectations for this experience. In retrospect i wish we had arranged to ride at a stable further away from the city (in a different part of Iceland) and in a private or very small group.
Finally got to tick that off my bucket list :) Last time I was in Iceland I had the worst experience of my life riding with a different tour provider. But this time it was awesome with Sólhestar! We got picket up in front of our hotel by one of the guides. The drive to the stable is about 30min or less. Then we got provided with helmets and waterproof clothing (the waterproof clothes are optional if the weather is good or you have great waterproof clothes with you.). We got lucky because it wasn't windy (very important when riding) but it did rain a little. We got horses assigned depending on experience. Those who didn't know how to ride got a good thorough explanation on what to do. The experienced few were just instructed on what to expect and that they would get to try the Tölt. The experience takes about 1h30min which is plenty for people who just want to try riding Icelandic horses or people who don't know how to ride. After taking pictures at a nice red lava spot we got split into two groups: the no experience and the experienced group. I was in the experienced group and got to ride Tölt quite a few times. It was really enjoyable with nice views and a lovely horse.
Wow! This was a really great experience. The horses were all super friendly and adorable, and we got amazing complimentary drinks as well. Our driver was very kind and fun.
The Icelandic horses are beautiful! They are calm and easy to ride. The ride lasted long enough although I wish they would have split us up so some of us could ride the horses at the tolt gait. It was nice that we were picked up in Rekyavik and it was only a half hour drive.
Fun, beautiful day with lovely horses and wonderful guides. They were very helpful and kind to beginners. Note the 240lb limit is real, those horses are not big so be real about your weight.
This is a very well supervised experience of riding the special Icelandic horses through the beautiful red rock lava caves. Even if you have limited experience riding horses, you’ll enjoy this experience. My only disappointment was that the guides did not share any information about what makes the Icelandic horses so special. Also I would have liked if they had demonstrated for us the unique gait that these horses have.
Loved the picture opportunity and the fact that riders were separated by experience. Very scenic ride.
I wanted to love this but it wasn’t as expected. Prettiest part was when we reached the Red Lava Rocks where the guides took pictures of our group. There was no explanation or information about the red lava rocks and no conversation the entire ride. Single file trail ride to the lava rocks and back. The group was too large. We had four guides. Two guides were very sweet, one was very grumpy and one acted like the horse police. Definitely not worth our time.
The guides were outstanding! No matter if you are an experienced rider or a beginner, these amazing women have you covered. The horses were so much fun and very well take care of. You can tell how dedicated the guides are to their jobs. I cannot recommend this tour enough! I wish I could go back tomorrow 😀
When in Reykjavík, if you like, or what to try horseback riding, go with the Lava Horse Riding tour. The horses are very gentle, easy to ride. The guides are excellent, they match your experience, or lack of, with the horse, and are with you the whole way. The trail is very easy. You’ll find a experience you will enjoy.
What a wonderful experience! The guides were so nice and helpful and obviously love what they do! You should do this!
This tour is perfect from start to finish. We enjoyed every moment of the tour. Pickup was punctual, and the guide made the bus ride to the stables interesting with facts along the way. The separated riders based on experience level, and split the group in two. We were in the experienced group and got to Tolt our horses at least 8 different times. The ride was 1.5 hours long, and the horses were fantastic. The scenery was amazing as well. They provide helmets and rain gear (we did not need rain gear on our visit). They used our phones at a stop to take pictures of us on our horses which I really appreciated.
10/10 would recommend this experience! The guides were fantastic, the horses were gorgeous, and the scenery was brilliant. My aunt, my cousin and I truly enjoyed this adventure. PS - the available coffee, hot chocolate & tea at the end = perfect!
Fun, horses were cared for, Nono was the perfect horse for me!!
A little more instruction for beginners would have been a benefit. It was a very positive experience overall but it could have gone sour easily. Very happy we found your stables.
Seamless experience from pickup to drop off. Super friendly, attentive, and fun staff. Beautiful, well behaved horses, lovely scenery, and the opportunity to split our group to beginners and advanced groups. Loved having an opportunity to experience the tolt gait. Totally worth it, and a great way to spend a few hours in Iceland.
Had a fun adventure with Red Lava Riding. From pickup, equipment distribution and “horse matching”, the women very efficient and got us out on the trail quite quickly. They were very patient with the first-time riders in the group. After a photo op in the lava field, the group split with more advanced riders going ahead, to experience the Tolt gait only Icelandic horses can do…and the less adventurous riders continued to walk thru the eerie landscape. The whole trip was very well handled and a great experience.
It was a lot of fun! I would go back to do it again or maybe a even longer ride. Stjarna was the best sassy little horse!
I had such an amazing experience, from pick-up to drop-off! My hotel wasn't on the pick-up list, so I sent a message directly to the tour providers. They picked me up directly from my hotel, and all went smoothly. This was the first time I'd been on a horse in over 50 years, so that also had me a little nervous. Getting on the horse was the only difficult part, but the guides were there to help. Once I was in the saddle, my sweet horse and I became fast friends! She listened well, and our walk down the guided path was so beautiful! The guides even took pictures of me and my friends on our horses at a scenic location along our route. Everything was perfect, and I would definitely go again!
Did this horse riding experience on my last full day in Iceland after an amazing 13 day trip. Friendly horses, all safety was reviewed & guides were terrific with checking & then re checking our saddles, reins etc before return ride back to farm. Beginner friendly rides. Nice slow pace for those that need and a little quicker gait if out in front. I will say I was impressed over safety checks & making sure everyone was in correct helmet sizes, horse size & temperament etc Tour is only about 2hrs and that is a perfect little 1 1/2 hr ride with a transport van for the 15/20 mins drive time from Reykjavik. I haven't been back on a horse in quick a few years and I was completely comfortable doing this tour. I was orginially going to do this when I first arrived in Iceland but decided to do at end of my trip instead and glad I did as my butt bones were a bit sore the following day. It is a nice little walk through the country side, seeing the lava rock up close. The guide stops at that location and does free photos on everyone's camera for you. After the tour you are offered tea & coffee for those that wish. You can definitely tell these ladies are dedicated to their jobs and are very protective, passionate and proud of their beautiful horses. Great day. Fun little tour. Terrific guide riders. Beautiful horses and Amazing scenery. Thank you for this great experience!
amazing trail ride! They stop and take pictures for you which is nice. Very beautiful view. They take very good care of their horse horses as well.
This was a beautiful ride through the red lava fields. The horses were beautiful. The guides kind helpful and added lots of value to the experience.
Despite the miserable weather, we had a FANTASTIC time! The horses were beautiful and so easy to handle. More importantly, the guides were outstanding - patient and kind for all levels of riders. I was fortunate to have enough riding experience to join the "tolting" group.....SO MUCH FUN!!!
