Private Iceland Tour - Hidden Gems & Local Experience

My wife and I booked a one day photography tour of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula with Luke in late February. The weather wasn't the friendliest and we wanted the security of a guide who not only knew the area well but was equipped for the conditions. From the outset Luke was responsive to our communications leading up to our booking and was able to give us several options to suit our holiday itinerary and requirements. Luke was also very accommodating and changed the date of our tour at the last minute to suit the weather conditions. The day was very well structured and we visited all the locations we wanted plus other lesser known spots, arriving at times best suited to the lighting conditions . Luke is very knowledgeable and this made the day even more enjoyable and he also gave us great advice and recommendations for the rest of our time in Iceland. We would definitely book with Luke again and highly recommend his services.

Had an absolutely sensational day organised by Luke and the Secret Spots team. Travelling with my adult son and his girlfriend - all 3 of us had an equally fantastic time. At Luke's advice we spent the day exploring the Reykjanes Peninsula and we were not disappointed. To be able to soak in the scenery and the experience without taking our own photo's was very liberating ..... and we still got to have the moments captured and have some magical photo's of memories in the making. We shared a one day layover in Luke’s capable hands Aug 29, 2025. He was highly recommended by friends and did not disappoint. We wanted to be off the tourist path and were generously rewarded with spectacular scenery. We walked the path of a lava flow and along the beautiful cliffs. Our afternoon with Luke was a family trip, with a surprise proposal at the end. Luke was incredible to work with. We communicated early before the trip on setting up the proposal. He was knowledgeable about the area and really wanted to show us a great time. Our trip to Iceland would not have been the same, we got to see so much in such a short amount of time. Luke’s photography skills are also wonderful. We got got so many great photos. The composition and editing were great. I can’t say enough great things about our excursion with Luke. Definitely a must-see, we can’t wait to come back to spend time with Luke. He’s such a friendly guy and I wish we had had more time together.

Just finished a week tour of Iceland with Luke. What an amazing and exciting country. We saw beautiful coastline cliffs and the waterfalls were everywhere. He took us to cozy little cafes for lunch with interesting businesses attached. He found us beautiful black sand beaches to walk on and amazing glaciers to view with icebergs floating past. I embarked on a private tour with Luke of "Secretspotsiceland". As an avid chess player I asked to find Bobby Fischer's grave site and museum. We found both in and outside of Selfoss. I also wanted to try my drone out. Luke then planned visits to Sigöldugljúfur, Sigöldufoss, Háifoss and the The Commonwealth farm. These were magical places, very little traffic and some only accessible using his Heavy Duty Nissan 4x4 on F-roads. Talk about adventure! Luke expertise in drones showed me some cool tactical moves sweeping in and out of Sigöldugljúfur canyon like a tie fighter crossing by the Lekafossar series of waterfalls. Again some more drone-time at Háifoss. A brief stop for lunch at a great little road-side diner we headed up to the outskirts of the Highlands, but not before stopping in at the "Valley of Tears", Sigöldufoss. The Highlands were mystical to say the least and the trip was fulfilling. The weather was moody as well with fog and mist, but wait 15 minutes or so, the sun burst out long enough to illuminate the falls for some sweet shots. Luke was a personable, knowledgeable and great guide who was more than eager to help make the trip memorable. Thanks Luke!

Touring with Luke was one of the best decisions we made when we planned our Iceland trip. Although we only did two days with him, he took us to spectacular places we would have never found on our own. As you might expect, we got some amazing photos, but also got to see such varied areas. One day we went to a few of the busier tourist destinations as I wanted to make sure we didn’t miss those items, but being with him meant he helped us avoid the crowds as much as possible. He is so easy to talk to and such an interesting person. I would highly recommend booking with him. And although we only did a few days, I would not hesitate to use him for a much longer tour. Luke is a fabulous, knowledgeable guide. Plus, he will use his camera to take group photos. While we booked a certain route, as we discussed what really interested us, we changed course and did not see a large tour bus the entire journey. The tour exceeded expectations, was personal, and we learned and saw a lot of what makes Iceland so interesting.

We contacted Luke pretty last minute and were lucky he was able to accommodate us. It was meant to be! He picked my husband and I up from our hotel and we were off on an Icelandic adventure with Luke for the day. He was cool with us bringing our own camera gear and our drone. We had fun flying the drone over lava fields together, stopped for lunch and learned about Icelandic culture. He took some beautiful photos of us and turned them over quickly. The experience with Luke couldn't be much better. He was flexible with us from the beggining and took us to places we wanted to see ofering many informations about all the places we stoped. Luke it’s like a open book, he has many knowledge about Iceland and he made our trip very comfortable. Highly recommend a trip with him. He is also a good photographer with lots of patience.

I would definitely recommend this tour with Luke over and over again. From the beginning of the day he was very flexible with us taking us to places we wanted to see even though they weren't part of the tour. He gave us some information about Iceland throughout the day and also he made us try some local snacks and drinks which was very thoughtful coming from him. My bestie and I booked a six hour day tour called “Secret Spots of Iceland '' on our second day in Iceland and met Luke (@secretspotsiceland), our tour guide. We jumped into Luke’s car and drove an hour away from Reykjavik and visited locations that aren’t typically included in the general Icelandic tourist tours which was fantastic because we felt as if we had discovered a whole new side of Iceland. One of the perks of this tour was that Luke is also a seasoned photographer and captured some great moments of my bestie and I. The perk of Iceland and this tour is that it’s made for Instagram - Luke took us to spots no one dared to visit and because of that we were able to capture some really incredible photos - along with hilarious memories of me attempting to walk on massive rocks, debating if being proposed on a bed of active, yet dried lava was a good idea, and of course trying to find Trolls. I loved that Luke was open to our recommendations on how long we wanted to stay in certain spots, he also introduced us to a very unique snack of dried fish with butter and was knowledgeable in the life of an Icelander. The photos Luke took was sent to us pretty quickly and were well edited with his unique touch that left little to no editing on our part to share on social channels. I would definitely sign up for another tour with Luke when back in Iceland and recommend you do too! One note to make, be prepared for hiking up hills and on rocks - if you’re dressing up for your photos, be mindful of this and bring appropriate shoes to change in. Luke toured my friend and I for two epic days around the south of Iceland. We saw waterfalls, moss covered landscapes, glaciers, crashing ocean waves, black sand beaches, quiet craters. We did this laughing, chatting and singing together in Luke’s jeep in between each breathtaking stop. Luke was patient, passionate and well versed in everything to do with Iceland and it’s treasures. Without a doubt his eye and love for the country made this adventure what it was. I absolutely wouldn’t hesitate to book with him if you are looking for an intimate up-close and personal journey into the beauty that is Iceland! Thank you so much Luke.

This experience with Luke was hands-down one of the best I had during my entire nine-week trip to Europe. Each of the spots he takes you to is off the beaten path and therefore has far fewer tourists. Every spot also showcases a unique aspect of the sheer, natural beauty of Iceland. The photos Luke takes are a fantastic memento of the experience and are some of the best photos I've had taken of myself in recent memory. However, the best part of the experience has to be Luke himself. He is such a kind and generous host. Whether it was having a beer and eating dried cod in the back of his jeep or finally being convinced to try an Icelandic hot dog at a small Kaffihús, the memories I have from my time with Luke are ones I will hold onto for a long time. Don't think twice, just book this tour with Luke! He's very professional and friendly with lots of cool stories to share. We were very fortunate to be the only couple with him that day, not to mention the weather that day could not have been more perfect for us! The best private tour we had in Iceland compared to our other day tours! Luke was very accommodating, knowledgeable and very friendly to us. My 5 year son dared him to have a dance contest in the middle of nowhere 🤣 and he was so sport about it haha. The places we went to were really incredible and astounding. All the pictures that he took were amazing and it really captured the beauty and uniqueness of Iceland. We wish we have allotted more time and tours with him during our stay in the country. This tour was one of my favourite days ever and a fantastic way to end my first solo travel trip! I was joined by another traveller and it was an amazing time with Luke being very accomodating. He took us to many locations with barely any people, which made it feel otherworldly. It was also super fan chatting and learning more about other peoples’ experiences. I can’t wait to come back to Iceland and explore it in even more depth!

Luke was awesome! I booked this trip for the day after we landed in Iceland, so my husband and I could see and talk a about how we could plan the rest of our stay. Not only were the sites fantastic, Luke was knowledgable about the country and had lots of recomendations and ideas of what we should see next for the rest of the time we were in Iceland. Hands-down best tour we could have asked for. We only got to spend 3 days in Iceland but had several activities planned. We found Luke's tour and thought that would be a good last day activity but had no idea just how blown away we would be. From the start, Luke was accommodating and wanted to make sure not to repeat anything we may have seen already. Throughout the tour, he was friendly and easy-going. He also offered to take pictures (and retouch them after) at the places he took us to. All of the spots were absolutely incredible! I could not recommend Luke's tours highly enough. We booked a private tour with Luke on our last full day in Iceland and it was the perfect way to end the trip. We had already seen a lot of the popular tourist destinations (Golden Circle, South Coast) so it was refreshing to visit much quieter, hidden, and breathtaking destinations. These locations were definitely off the beaten path and not spots I would known about myself or been able to find as a tourist. Luke was very pleasant and knowledgeable, teaching us more about Icelandic culture, heritage, and geography. My fiancé even asked Luke to help him plan his proposal to me during the tour, and Luke customized the tour so that there would be a perfect spot for him to pop the question which fit the aesthetic that we wanted for our engagement photos! Luke caught the moment perfectly in both video and photos which we will treasure forever. He had so many great ideas for photo locations/spots and it was very easy and natural to have him take our photo. He is truly a professional and delivered us beautiful, high quality photos in a very timely manner which we have received so many compliments on. Luke is an awesome photographer and tour guide. He knows really cool spots to take pictures and he will share the history and legends of those places. You will have one of the best experiences of your life going to cliffs, volcanoes and amazing landscapes with him.

3 days with Luke exploring the south of Iceland in February in the snow and ice was one of the best adventures we’ve ever had as a family. He is fantastic company and listened to what we wanted and what we didn’t want and created a perfect itinerary where we avoided the coachloads of tourists and instead got to enjoy so many incredible sites for ourselves. Incredible waterfalls, geysers, hidden coastal areas, glaciers, fisherman cafes, and the most spectacular spots for the best photos. I am so glad we found Luke! He really is one in a million. Totally cares about his guests, he’s kind and great fun. He gave us lots of insider tips for places to visit, eat and drink in Reykjavik. We learned a lot about life in Iceland and loved the fantastic Icelandic soundtrack in his super comfortable 4x4. A first class experience in every respect. We’d really like to go back and explore other areas with Luke. Highly recommended.

Luke was very personable and knowledgeable. Meeting up was easy and he took to many sights we likely never would have discovered on our own. He was thoughtful about including bathroom breaks and making sure we didn't get hungry. And he took a ton of pictures of us to remember the experience. Great experience!

With Luke it was causal, small group setting without the overcrowd feeling of being in a tour group, which is exactly what I was looking for. This experience is something you really can't do on your own without being a local for the most part. Luke however makes you feel like one during this trip and explains a little history behind each place and the journey to each place. He is also very personable and kind and does an excellent job connecting with everyone in the group! Keep in mind it's a smaller group so you're going to be engaging with one another. Luke does a great job not only connecting with us/the group, but also helping the group connect with each other. I highly recommend this trip at the start of your time in Iceland. I will definitely be reaching out to Luke next time I'm in Iceland!!

While searching high and low for a photographer to capture my Iceland trip, I happened to come across Luke's website. His portfolio was very impressive. My daughter and I (15 years old) visited Iceland for the first time. We booked a tour with Luke to avoid the crowds and get off the beaten paths. We had a great time. Overall, the experience was fantastic. The tour group size made the experience so intimate and set it apart from every tour I've taken in Iceland. All the locations we visited were such unique and beautiful places and I doubt I would have found on my own or with other tour groups. This is a much better option for anyone who wants a personalized and small group setting to explore spots you wouldn't see on a commercial tour.
