Very good tour with interesting and well versed guide
Great guide very informative Loved the whole experience good introduction to Iceland Guide and as great
We had a very nice variety of traditional Icelandic foods with our guide, Kristin. She would tell us some history of the food and Iceland as we tried each one. She told us about historical spots in the city, restaurants and traditions - celebrations, every day life, Christmas and others. She showed us illustrations of other traditional foods and the stories behind them as well. It was the foods, the stories and the extra information she included that will make this food tour memorable!
Lots of food, culture, humor, and then more food!
Maria was awesome! She made Icelandic food so much fun!
Bonnie is a rock star. Great guide. Very personable. Meeting engagement very easy. Food tour itself was excellent. Nice way to experience local cuisine(s).
Maria G was an amazing tour guide. She has an electric personality and knows a lot about the history and culture. It was very interesting to end off the tour with trying the iconic fermented shark bite
Marie G guided us through the gastronomical delights of Reykjavik, with delicious food (except the shark) and spell-binding tales of history, culture and traditions. Recommend the tour and highly recommend Marie!
Maria G had such a wealth of knowledge about Icelandic cuisine and history that was so much fun to hear about. Her descriptions of the food and its background made all the wonderful delicacies we had even better
Our guide Snowy was fabulous, great sense of humour, attentive and easy to talk to. Very much enjoyed this.
We had a fabulous food tour! We like to do them on the first day of our visit to a new city. This one was toward the end of our visit, and we learned a lot about Iceland. Our guide, Bo (his name in Icelandic is outlandish), was personable, fun, and full of info. We had Icelandic appetizers (gravlox on rye bread and pink footed goose on sourdough), chocolate samples, lamb soup, potato fish soup, marriage cake, Icelandic hot dogs, and oh so much beer! It was an awesome experience. Go and ask for Bo….he won’t disappoint.
Our guide, Maria G, provided a wonderful introduction to Reykjavik! She has a strong knowledge of both the local food and the history. We enjoyed the various food stops and learning more about the origins of Icelandic food. Doing a private tour helped us get a better sense of the city and country and gave us an opportunity to spend time with such a warm guide. Highly recommend!
An amazing experience from start to finish. The tastings covered a broad range, from the fermented shark that I will never forget to the Icelandic hot dog that turned out to be my favorite thing all day. Every restaurant was expecting us and had things ready, and our guide Marie Hélène was warm and wonderfully informative throughout.
Stefan was an amazing tour guide! We learned so much about Icelandic culture (from the Icelandic Coast Guard to the Yule Lads to the “members” of the historic Olympic hand ball team) plus the food was phenomenal. Highly recommend this tour & guide!
Maria G. was a fabulous guide! She not only took us to many food places but also taught us so much about Iceland. Lots of fun and lots of food!
Stephon was amazing and excellent guide, all the restaurants recognized him and gave him premium service. Highly recommend booking direct with your friend from Reykjavik
Maria G. Was fantastic. She was the perfect blend of managing our food tour while sharing the historical references, showing us beautiful art and providing a personal touch. We feel like we got the Iceland food experience we wanted while enjoying a city tour. We would highly recommend her and the Food tour.
The food of iceland was very tasty, including the fermented shark (just kidding). Our tour guide, Day, was fantastic. He explained everything and made it fun!
Einar met us at the meeting spot and we were surprised to see it was a private tour. It was booked through a tour company so we didn't know much about what to expect. It was apparent early on that there had been miscommunication between the tour company and guide that one of us required dairy-free food, but this was quickly accommodated. Einar regaled us with stories and anecdotes while we visited several restaurants and enjoyed great food and drink. We would definitely recommend this tour and this guide. Having a small group (me, my husband, and the guide) was ideal. We were nimble and efficient, even if we did talk a lot! I felt like Einar went out of his way to ensure we had a positive experience.
The only reason I gave 2 stars, rather than 1 star, is because we liked the tour guide. But other than that, the time spent on our food tour was the most disappointing experience we had during our trip. I booked a private tour (spent lots of extra money) because my daughter and I are gluten free and I was told by the tour company that they would create a gluten free tour for us. Which did not happen!! At each place, we were offered gluten-free alternatives to the food that the rest of my family was eating. Which were very limited. I had lamb soup at two of the four stops. And at one of the stops, the famous hot dog stand, there were zero gluten free options!! Plus, the tour description said we would go to a super market and learn about the local foods and that we would end the tour with an Icelandic drink. Neither of these things happened!! And the tour was less than three hours, which was shorter than they described. This was a complete waste of time and money!! And I have been trying to get compensated for this, yet the tour company is unresponsive!!!
Excellent private food tour with Stefan. Nice variety of food specialties. So much great food that we are skipping dinner. Stefan also offered and took great photos of us on the rainbow street.
Nice walk through city. Great selection of local food. We were definetly full by the end. The lamb soup was really good, so much when went back on our own later for more.
Our private Reykjavik food tour with Stefan was a great introduction to Iceland. We tried several typical dishes and learned quite a bit about Icelandic culture and history. Stefan had a lot of knowledge and good suggestions for food adventures in Iceland. Highly recommended!
Go hungry might not seem like a lot of food but very filling . Great way to see some of the city too. We enjoyed the tour
Fun and filling. Lasted a whole 3 hrs. Went to 5 locations, with one involving a market to sample different chocolate and salsas. Had sveinbjorn as our tour guide and he was good and informative
My husband & I did the Reykjavik walking food tour with our guide, Einar. Einar was fantastic! He was informative and shared family history & stories which only added to our experience. And the choice of restaurants were varied, interesting, essentially Icelandic and delicious!! Because it was a walking tour we got an appreciation for Reykjavik, its history and how food is such a strong part of the culture. We would highly recommend this tour for an authentic Icelandic experience.
Ester E is an excellent tour guide. Very knowledgeable and nice. She shows love for her city & country. We enjoyed very much all the food samples. Thank you
Bo was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun & exciting. You get a good amount of food for your $$$. Would go again!
Great walking tour of Teykjavik and wonderful restaurants with a nice variety of local dishes. Guide Palli was very entertaining and informative.
Your Friend in Reykjavík was very easy to deal with. We needed to change the day of our tour and they were very accommodating. Our guide Stefan was very engaging. He talked a lot about Iceland and was interested in our lives as well. The food was all excellent...welllll maybe not the fermented shark. The variety of dishes was just right. We all had plenty to eat. We would recommend Stefan and Your Friend to anyone.
My son and I had a wonderful private food tour on the day we arrived in Reykjavík. Our tour guide, Einar Steinn Valgarosson, was the best of the BEST!! As a native Icelander, he was well versed in everything Iceland! I would never hesitate recommending Your Friend in Reykjavík tours!
Our vegan / vegetarian food guide Hrafn was spectacular. He knew so much, not only about good vegan / vegetarian places to eat, but also about the history of Iceland. He was able to answer all the questions we had about Iceland, he had endless knowledge. Also the food tasting places we went to were delicious. I would highly recommend this tour and I hope you are lucky enough to get Hrafn as your guide !!!
We scheduled a Vegetarian and Vegan food walking tour. Our guide Hrafn was terrific. So full of information about the city and history and answered all our questions with ease. He was personable and easy to do the tour with.
The venues were excellent from both the point of history and ambiance. The food was excellent and representative of all that Iceland has to offer. Oli, our guide, was very personable and informative. We enjoyed hearing about Iceland and his experiences with food growing up in the country. I highly recommend this tour early in a visit to Iceland.
This was an amazing experience!! Our tour guide was Aussie - not sure of spelling - but he took us to so many amazing places! We learned some history of Iceland but then visited a bakery, a hotdog stand, a candy/souvenir store, a restaurant for lunch and also an ice cream shop to end our day. It was so wonderful!!! We loved all of the food and our guide was the best! I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who would like to sample the best of Iceland!
We had a great time with Bo as he walked us through Reykjavík sampling traditional foods and sharing historical and cultural stories about Reykjavik and Iceland. Bo made sure the various venues knew it was my wife’s birthday making the tour that much more special. We would definitely recommend the private tour with Bo.
Wonderful experience. Nice variety of food. Host was friendly knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Highly recommend.
Angar (forgive me if I’ve misspelled your name) was a fabulous and most knowledgeable tour guide for our food tasting experience here in Reykjavík Iceland. His lifelong experience of living in Iceland, as well as being able to share a family history and facts about the country made our food tasting experience all the better! He is sincerely, a nice person, and it was wonderful to be able to sit down and enjoy an evening of good food with a very nice individual who is very attentive to everyone’s needs. Thank you for a great time!
Our food tour was a lot of fun. You get to try different Icelandic dishes (seafood stews with sourdough bread, Icelandic appetizers, Icelandic sweets, even fermented shark!) and get a good history lesson on the country as well. The portions are generous and you will definitely be full after this tour. We ended the tour with a drink (non-alcoholic versions available too) at a local pub. Einar was a wonderful guide. He's friendly, very knowledgeable, and accommodating. I recommend this tour. If you go, do take his advice when eating the fermented shark, you will be glad you did!
What a tour! Einar was an outstanding guide, giving us the background on the food we ate, as well as the neighborhoods we traversed. We definitely tried food that we otherwise wouldn’t have, and that is what makes these tours special. Thank you Einar, and rock on!
Dario, the tour guide was very helpful & accommodating & well respectfully. He did an excellent job in our tour. Thank you Dario.
We booked a private Reykjavik food tour with guide Christina and had a deeply upsetting experience. Not only was her English poor and engagement with the children non-existent, but she also loudly voiced extreme political views. Wearing propaganda symbols and making openly antisemitic statements during what should have been a fun family experience left us feeling unsafe on our trip with children. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable.
Our private food tour was deeply disappointing. The guide’s English was poor, she made no effort to engage the children, and showed little knowledge or professionalism. Most concerning, she openly displayed and voiced extreme political propaganda, which was offensive and entirely inappropriate in a tour setting. This was not what we expected or paid for.
Our guide, Gardar, was knowledgeable, personable, and showed us a taste of local food, that we would not have otherwise sampled. Our favorites were the smoked lamb tartar and the crowberry jam! He also gave us useful tips on local culture and museums to visit the next day. We recommend Gardar as he customizes the discussions to his clients interests, and gives us a peak of local Icelandic living.
Our guide, Magness, shared the history of Iceland with us as we experience a sampling of traditional Icelandic food at each stop. Highly recommend this tour.
The tour was very manageable for our difficulty of walking. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the restaurants and foods. We will recommend this tour to other travelers.
Definitely a great experience. Bo was extremely knowledgeable and an outstanding guide. Highly recommended!!!
Robyn was a great host; the conversation, food and the stop at the flea market. The tour was one of the highlights of our trip. So the food, I'm glad I got to try the Icelandic hotdog and the fermented shark with cordial chaser. The lamb soup was fantastic as were the other selections. Thank you Robyn.
Stefan was great and made us feel welcome. He was very knowledgeable about history and the metal scene in Iceland. He was a great person to know
